Very nice little camera great picture quality G i still can't get used to Cardiff central with wires last time I went there they didn't exist. Very nice journey to Swansea last time I travelled there it was class 50's and hst's the interior of the 800 is very similar to the lner 800 just different colours
London - Swansea was a monthly journey for me when I was at uni in Swansea from 2015-19. When I started, it was HSTs, by the time I finished, it was the IETs. God I miss it.

A great video. Did you know that the first class lounge at Paddington Station was once the Royal Suite and was frequented by the likes of Queen Victoria when her Royal duties needed the train. Its very nice in there but a bit small and probably gets quite busy at times. I have only used the class 800's once, I wasn't very impressed, the seats were not very comfortable and it was noisy under Diesel power. I loved the HST's , bring them back any day 😊

I rode the class 800 from Paddington to Swansea in October, stayed overnight in a Premier Inn on the waterfront before riding the heart of Wales the following day to Shrewsbury. Loved it!

Great video G! it's a nice journey along the Great Western Main Line but remember the nightmare you had to get to Cardiff when you were on a diverted CrossCountry Trains via Bristol Parkway but sure you haven't rode on a IET before.

Thanks for the video that brings back fond memories of when I did a semester exchange at Cardiff University! Riding trains in the UK (esp. along the GWR Main Line) reinvigorated my childhood interest in rail transit, and now I'm writing a thesis on the next generation of electric train motors! I believe my room facing a train line also helped...I remember being the only one among my dorm mates to notice when the Class 231 (FLIRT) came into service with TfW!

Been to both Paddington and lot and it is a great place to visit and have used trains to go to the Westcountry during the day. Want to do the night one if I can one day. Have been to visit Swansea once when I stayed in the Cardiff.
Nice video although a few trains per day heading to Swansea like the 13:46 one are actually extended to Carmarthen. Most trains heading to Swansea does actually terminate there before going back to Paddington.
Yeah I remember doing a trip, this time last year I think, very early from Paddington to Cardiff as well and it really did breeze by, not much hassle, not much fuss, even managed to get a couple hours sleep on it which was a bonus

7:30 - Perhaps that 'new little baby' could be referred to as 'The 175109 of Cameras'. Incidentally, I saw a man using a very similar-looking camera when I was at the Driving Creek Railway the other week; it's in stark contrast to my Nikon D5600. For reference, the DCR is a unique 15inch gauge railway here in New Zealand.

Looks like you arrived just in time for Swansea's mental annual Christmas parade! It gets ridiculously busy around that time, particularly around the station! I often spare a thought for all the people that live along the parade route on that night, especially the massive student blocks by the station!
Looks like you started from Little Venice and walked through Paddington Basin to the station. We used to LOVE that neighborhood, but sadly haven't been in a while.
Glad you enjoyed the ride as I used to work on the brake systems of these Hitachi trains. and you found the seats ok I think the people who find them uncomfortable need to learn how to sit properly. There’s also a nice old GWR original hotel opposite the Station in Swansea to stay in!

I’ve not intentionally travelled between Cardiff and Bristol Parkway with GWR back in July to Change to get to Birmingham when Crosscountry had no drivers for the normal Cardiff route but I’ve not been west of Cardiff towards Swansea before. If you filmed this in November I recon the crowds in Swansea might have been a Christmas lights switch on event. I enjoyed watching as always.

My Cousin once lived in Penarth, so when she got married in 1994 I stayed there for a few days and got to see quite a lot of Cardiff. She actually had the Wedding Reception in the Cardiff Marriott Hotel that had a replica Steam Loco out front! Love Cardiff, me!

Great Western Railway should reopen the Portishead Line from Bristol Temple Meads and to add new stations since line closed in the 1960s. I have been on the Class 800 and Class 802 IETs and they are very nice trains.

I wonder if it is easier to get down to Pembroke and Fishguard from Manchester, then just getting the ferry across to Rosslare is easier if going to Waterford, Tipperary, Cork, Limerick & Tralee - and of course, getting that quirky train to Dublin that passes through Wexford town at a snails pace towards Wicklow
I quite like the GWR Class 800 and Class 802 since they replaced the Class 43 HST Mk3s. And GWR could have kept the Class 387/3s to be used on Reading-Newbury shuttle but instead they went to Great Northern.
That Class 800 you went on looked really nice and clean - it's hit and miss on some trains whether you get that or not. Standard class looked plenty comfortable, to be honest. Have you come up with a name for that nifty wee camera yet?!
Considering how much hate the IETs - especially the GWR ones - get, it's fairly surprising to see a review of them that actually praises them instead of trying to bash them into the ground.

G this is an amazing channel keep up the good work!!!. Did you know that the class 800 seats are so hard and uncomfortable for long journeys? They are dog friendly thats about it!!! 387's are a lot worse. As GWR is a long distance conveyor, wouldnt it be nice to have amazingly comfortable seats....just saying.
I've travelled on quite a few IETs in standard class but in my opinion they are inferior to the old HSTs in terms of ride quality.Seats are too hard , OK maybe for short journeys but certainly not for nearly three hours. The overhead lighting is much too harsh - I don' t know why they have to be so bright. You seem to be easily pleased !

The class 800s may not have the best seats, but at least they're well equipped with plenty of plug sockets and knicker hooks 🤣 And more flowing water for you to see both before and after your journey

So the canal area is called Paddington Basin and is very nice to walk along in the summer when its warm.
Sheldon Square. I used to work there right after it was built, certainly improved it over the years. That flowing water is the grand union canal.

They are dog friendly thats about it!!! 387's are a lot worse. As GWR is a long distance conveyor, wouldnt it be nice to have amazingly comfortable seats....just saying.

I've travelled on quite a few IETs in standard class but in my opinion they are inferior to the old HSTs in terms of ride quality.Seats are too hard , OK maybe for short journeys but certainly not for nearly three hours. The overhead lighting is much too harsh - I don' t know why they have to be so bright. You seem to be easily pleased !
I can't understand why she didn't use her Standard Class travel ticket to find a seat in the Premium Dining Restaurant Car, pay GBP 40 for a three-course, silver-service meal with wine, and get a free upgrade to First Class during the long journey from London/Lundain in England to Swansea/Abertawe in Wales!
