The sandwich (Stottie) you had on Lumo is from a small bakery in Shieldfield, Newcastle called Big River Bakery. They're a social enterprise that teach unemployed people how to get into catering, they also offer a "pay what you can" scheme so that local people who are struggling never go hungry. The Stottie looked so good!
Lovely to hear! It was yummy 😄
@@GLovesTrains Big River isn't the only stupendous bakery in Newcastle. There's the Pink Lane Bakery which has a shop at the top of ... Pink Lane, which is a little alleyway just across the road from Central Station. Look for the Subway and the Greggs shops and keep on walking :) This Sunday (15th December) is a special day on Tyneside as a regular passenger service to Ashington is restarting after 60 years .. and the first new Metro train (class 555) is supposed to enter service as well. I think Central will be unusually busy early on Sunday morning.
@@roderickjoyce6716 I Have Never Heard Of An Avacado Smash Sandwich🤨🤔🧐
I'm here for the bridges!
Hello you 😁
Durham is definitely worth a visit and an excellent little station. It has river, parks and of course the cathedral.
Behind and above Durham station is Wharton Park. It is a very steep climb but the view of the castle, cathedral and the railway viaduct is amazing.
I live in New Zealand and have visited England many times so I really enjoy your vlogs as you give me an insight into a lot of places I have not seen. Thank you very much for your vlogs they are amazing. Cheers.
Lovely to hear, thanks!
You are getting more confident with every episode you do your smile is infectious and great to see also your videos are amazing lovely to see you enjoying yourself 👍👍✅✅
Thanks very much 😄
Lovely to see Durham and Newcastle, almost my neck of the woods.
brilliant i travelled with Lumo twice once in 2022 from Kings X to Newcastle & return & my experience then wasnt great but i gave them another go earlier this year in May when i travelled from Kings X to Edinburgh & return & my experience was 100% better & i enjoyed travelling with them & ill happily travel with Lumo again anyday & i def agree about Customer service with them which are better then Most other TOCs & ive only done short hop journeys with LNER & i wouldnt mind having more rides with LNER brilliant vlog
Thanks, and yep totally the customer service on lumo was fantastic
I swear those DAMN ANNOUNCEMENTS!!! Also there are more bridges in Newcastle than I thought there was originally and look at that sunset!! Hilarious and Awesome!
Thanks Tic Tac Tico 😄
Great video as usual G! 5:53 What's ... in ... the bin! And yes it's a sunSET!
Wots in the bin... my rubbish 😂
Interesting comparison of LNER and Lumo, and that sandwich on the Lumo train looked massive.
Spectacular views of Edinburgh at the end
It was a door stopper sandwich alright 😁
We're gonna need to see your cup collection one day :)
I'll send u a pic 🤣
Great vlog, G! Looks like the announcements are against you in this one! Newcastle has loud announcements! 😂
You get some lovely views at Berwick-upon-Tweed on the way! I enjoyed the views of Edinburgh, especially towards the W Hotel!
Of course, Lumo and LNER are great companies!
Thanks Reece, just had to look up what the W hotel was 😂. And yes both great companies 😀
Brilliant video G, good old York announcements lol. Newcastle is a nice city, I've visited once. Nice to see the Lumo part of the journey was good. That view at the end, that's one of the reasons why I wanna explore more of Scotland. :)
Thanks, it was a lovely view 😄
Just absolutely superb G. Your infectious enthusiasm and sunny, happy outlook never fails to cheer me up. You were in three places close to my heart. York I know like the back of my hand, and the same for Edinburgh. My son lives in Edinburgh and he is about the same age as you. I wondered if I'd see him somewhere in the background! Your films just keep getting better.
Haha there were quite a few people up that hill! 🤣 thanks Carl 😁
Nice to see you enjoy both journeys, I get the impression Lumo have more comfortable seating than LNER standard class. Next time your in Edinburgh you should climb up the extinct volcano that overlooks😮Edinburgh called Arthers Seat, the views from up there are absolutely spectacular no matter what the weather is like 😊
Also do get the tram to Port of Leith and walk back to town along the Water of Leith. Delightful.
Interesting I might do that!
Nice video, I recently rode those two operators for the first time back in October! Both on quite short journeys, so I couldn't try the food, but they were both nice operators!
Great to hear, they are both great to ride with 😄
What a train journey's the scenery was absolutely stunning fantastic video as usual. Ps you need to use subtitles when the announcements are made😂
Thanks a lot 😄
Great video❤ LNER as a name has a lot of British Railway history to it. The first LNER was between 1923 to 1948. Then LNER as a name came back again recently in 2018.
Thanks, interesting 😄
@@GLovesTrains Yeah I'm into all that lol.
Waited all week and I was not disapointed - Great Vlog G.😊
Aw thanks 😊
Absolutely nice that you used the best two services. Definitely on my bucket list.
You're videos are awesome i like trains a lot and one thing i only like about trains are merseyrail ones and you're videos make me so appreciated 😊
Thanks a lot, I love the merseyrail trains 😄
Loving your positivity, your enthusiasm and your smile 😍
Thanks very much 😄
Fantastic vlog G nice to see you enjoying a trip to Edinburgh the Lumo sandwich looked quite big that view from the hill looks incredible ❤❤
It could be used as a doorstop that sandwich 🤣
@GLovesTrains definitely big enough 😆
Brilliant vlog again G. The east coast line is beautiful with the sea views. Please do visit Durham . It is a lovely place with flowing water ! Thanks for posting.
Thanks, I'll add it to the list 😁
Great vlog and love Newcastle as i'm half geordie and Edinburgh looks amazing i must visit one day
Thanks very much 😄
@@GLovesTrains Welcome always enjoy your vlogs
Hi G excellent video as usual never travelled with Lumo as they don’t stop anywhere near me LNER are excellent by the way love the scarf
Thanks a lot 😁
great value great service awesome view beautiful sunset
Love the British Rail scarf!
If you're planning a future trip to Durham, I can highly recommend a visit to the city - it's full of character. Even in Standard Class, those Azuma units are very comfortable. I haven't done that journey up the East Coast in years, but it is full of scenic views, as I well remember. (Love the IC125 scarf!)
Great vlog G, very informative and fun pace along the way, nice to see more of the ECML, hope to ride it again soon
Thanks a lot 😄
Great trip and lots of flowing water for you, G! Looks cold though!
Was a bit chilly
Thanks for the Vlog G,loved them both shame we didn't see the toilets, unusual for you lol!!😎🚆🚆🚆🚆🇬🇧💚
Don't think I went to the toilets 🤣
I take it that it was a smashing sandwich lol! Notice the LumO Trains are starting to shown signs of wear and tear with the seats but still providing a excellent service. That view at the end.... want to do that myself now and it's good that you managed to pass the Tyne away in Newcastle. Great video!
Haha love your puns! 😂 you'll have to have a climb up that lil hill next time ur in edinburger 😀
I love your video G
Only LNER is a TOC. LUMO is a Open access operators,
@@kevinpoulton Kevin, shush. We don't need your 'tism ruining it for the rest of us.
@@GLovesTrainsdoes mom know you gone to Edinburgh have you got enough to get back ?
Fantastic trains a top blog again G you just surpass yourself week after week the best channel by far 👍🤗plus a wonderful view from Charlton Hill over Edinburgh 👌
Aw thanks Ian 😄
Great video ! Great bridges ! and Get Carter !
Thanks! (Whats Get Carter? 🤣)
@@GLovesTrains the best British gangster film ever.
love your videos G always bubbly and explains things thoroughly thank you
Thanks 😄
Great video always impressed with the quality filming, those trains look well smart, we've come a long way since mark 3 BR stock pulled by a deltic 😂.
You should research what happened in the shunting shed, when an HST125 was hit by a Class 800, at a speed of 8 mph. Look well smart? You should hold judgement until one has the first big accident, and then count the dead.
Thanks a lot Graham 😁
Went to York last month to visit the NRM. Absolutely incredible experience. I loved York’s bus network, and especially the design of York Station. But my god, both sets of LNER’s fleet. [ I prefer the 91. Don’t tell them 😂 ]
brilliant video overall.
The NRM is top of my priority list to travel to from Sussex. I'm not used to public transport so will do the trip in stages to get my confidence
Thanks, I must try a 91 set!
Thanks
Thanks, very kind of you 😄
Up until 3 years ago I worked in an office block just next to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge - Newcastle is very much under appreciated
The Red bridge is the Redheugh Bridge.
Thank you for sharing G. Yet to experience Lumo.
Awesome Video G Loves Trains😄😄😄😄😄😄
Excellent, I have travelled up to York on the LNER service and it is a beautifully clean train and spot on time.. 😊
Another great video. Enjoyed this one...👍
Thanks 😁
Thanks!
Thanks very much!!
Fantastic Video G I Enjoyed The Train Rides😊
Thanks!
Fantastic as usual. Please keep them coming.
Thanks 😁
Thanks cutest 😂
Thanks Josh 👍
@GLovesTrains how you getting on
Great video G, loved that both trains were good for you, window alignment was poor though on Lumo !!
I remember passing under all the Newcastle Bridges on a special boat trip when my family went to the Garden Festival Gateshead, way back in 1990. I was a sprightly 13yo back then 😂
Oooohhh. I do like it when it’s just you and me ? 😂. 🚂🚴♂️👣🇺🇦
Really enjoyed the video! Food offering seems to be way better than TPE or XC!
Yeah and you're more likely to get food as well 😂
Loved it!
Great to see some Get Carter locations too
@glovestrains Queen of Edinburgers Castle! Hurrah! I went past York Station on a National Express to Leeds last week, wonder if you were in the vicinity at that time! Have a great week!
Hahaha! Have a great week yourself 😁
Loved your enthusiasm and you smile as well in this vlog & also the scarf if you have not already done so you will have to do the East Cost Line before the Loco Hauled Stock is withdrawn & also visit Newcastle when the new Metro Stock Is in Service😁
Thanks, I'd love to do both of those 😄
Fantastic Video, Hope you enjoyed your time in Edinburgh.
Thanks, I did 😄
Always a bonus to see GLoves wearing actual gloves!
Double gloves 😄
Lumo seats are so much more comfortable and yes - superb customer service. I have mobility problems and use the Assistance service to board - and they actually came round and asked me individually if I wanted any refreshments, impressive, considering its all one class.
If you want stations that look like Carlisle, the bit between the two very long platforms at Perth and the buildings (numbered 4 and 7) had the same designer (Sir William Tite), as did the simpler version at Stoke-on-Trent. Both Carlisle and Perth were substantially built in the mid 1840s to the upmarket specifications of the Caledonian Railway, and both became major railway junctions! As all Edinburgh - Inverness trains now run via Stirling, Perth offers you the choice of travelling back on the (now) local service via Kirkcaldy - from which you can change for the new Leven branch; and across the Forth Bridge to Edinburgh (or Glasgow actually, as travel on that route via Haymarket is also permitted).
What a fantastic well planned out trip and vid keep up the great content G 👍📹
Thanks 😁
Another Lovely video G, still looking radiant as ever! With your lovely smile 😊 The lottie flap jack looked tasty 😋 keep up the great work 👏👏👏🙌 😂
It was so yum! Thanks 😄
Welcome! Glad the weather wasn’t too bad for your visit.
Thanks 😁
Wow another great vlog as always I'm very jealous of your scalf 😮 keep them coming
Thanks 😊
Brilliant vlog George, you are delightful, great content and info'. 👌
Another great video, hope you enjoyed your visit to the Toon
Thanks, I did indeed!
Sounds like you have done half and half. I think it’s a good idea doing half and half for the cheaper price whilst travelling on the train to get to Edinburgh Waverley. Never thought about it.
I find Lumo very good because they provide such good service non-stop from London King’s Cross to Newcastle and Edinburgh Waverley and the Class 803 are very good.
I have been on LNER Class 800 and Class 801 Azuma and those trains are very nice. I also been on the Grand Central Class 180 Adelante to York that the first stop after King’s Cross is York.
But why not stop at York, its the only on the mainline to Edinburgh not to stop at York. Questioned whether they should use the bypass loop of York Station. Originally was Lumo set to stop at Doncaster, but removed upon start of operation.
True.
Great idea visiting two cities with two different train operators.
Great watch thanks G, can’t beat the East Coast Main Line…
Wow Beautiful Vid About Your Train Trip To Edinburgh With LNER And Lumo Glove
Completely off-topic observation, but saw a bit about the latest flurry of additions to the All Aboard To Northampton wall, and couldn't help spotting a blank space with Wigan Wallgate on it. If only there was someone in that neighbourhood who could do something interesting with it....
Hey G, Really enjoyed this! Informative as usual. Never travelled with Lumo but been on LNER a few times now, standard only though! Will try my best to try Lumo out one day as they looked really impressive from your experience!
I actually used to have the same exact jacket as you! Divided from H&M right? I wore mine until it completely wore out, I binned it a little while ago as it started to get a bit tatty and ripped a bit. Ironically it ripped on the left sleeve as I think I saw yours is a bit at 2:17 . Maybe it's an issue with all of them! Are you planning to keep yours for a while until it completely wears out and then bin it like I did?
Been binge watching the Yorkshire and Wales vids recently and really enjoyed doing so. Looking forward to more!
Haha thanks a lot! And yes I got it from h and m (before they shut down in the Wigan!), very rare i replace clothes 🤣
@@GLovesTrains Me neither!
The advantage of Lumo, well at least one of them, is you get to do the York Station avoiding line. However don't bet on it as a guard on Trans Pennine was telling me that the one that is meant to do that often goes through the station if the driver isn't familiar with the avoiding line. Most however are booked non stop via the station anyhow. That freight train at Newcastle with the class 60 is a Tyne Dock biomass train from the east Midland port of Immingham to Jarrow and generally goes via Hartlepool and Yarm.
I've been meaning to go to Newcastle Upon Tyne to visit the Tyne and Wear Metro, so I can add it to the list of transit systems I've been on
Keep up the good work 👏 🙌
Fantastic video G, thank you very much
Thanks 😁
Great video "G" 🥰.
fantastic trip well done g
Thanks!
Excellent video, as always - thanks.
Thanks back 😄
Another great video,thanks
Thanks!
....I'm embarrassed to say I'm not really that interested in trains(!) but your vlogs are unique and fully justify and repay subscribing to and viewing. 😎
Aw thanks 😊
The Royal Boarder Bridge in Berwick upon Tweed I think is a great bridge on the east coast main line .
Hopefully no lodgers were hurt in the construction of the said bridge.
I live in York right next to station… always busy.😊
I've never used LUMO even though I live in Scotland - you've almost convinced me to try it with this lovely film. Thanks. By the way, not sure how Newcastle station reminds you of Carlisle - one has curved roofs, the other has a flat roof albeit with a kind of concertina effect. Hint - do a film comparing them!
Haha ill do a spot the difference
I feel like we're getting closer to the long-awaited Tyne and Wear Metro video! 🙏
Haha indeed 🤣
Welcome back to Edinburgh! Curious to see if you'll have a follow up from here 😊 - did you see there’s a new direct service coming linking Cardiff and Edinburgh, first time i heard this thinking - that'll be a G vlog 1 day
I have heard about that... very expensive tho!! 🤣
Hello G,
I don’t think there as clean as they used to be LNER Inc 1st class . When I used Lumo the toilet was drity pee and toilet used roll over the place in the loo that was Newcastle to Edinburgh about 3 years ago.
Watching your channel, you put me good work💜🫶
Smashing vlog well done
Cheers 😄
How did the two trains compare? Basically they are of the same Hitachi rolling stock origin but perhaps LUMO or LNER have changed aspects to help their trains stand out? I use this rolling stock on an occasional basis to get to/from London on the High Speed service, the ride quality feels inferior to the older slower speed trains but of course the faster speed is good! Also, note there are new trains on the Tyne & Wear Metro to be introduced soon.
When the service first opened I day tripped to Newcastle to sample (and compare with the Underground in my native London), it was a cold & frosty day between Christmas and New Year, the plan was to fly back however fog made this impossible so BA put me in a taxi and gave me a rail ticket instead - I was gutted, hadn't flown for some years and really wanted the flight!!
LNER can take notes to have reading lights at their seats, I rode last week to York from Kings X return in First Class and none!
I believe it's called the settle line
Love that scarf!
Cheers!
Awesome video as usual G, BTW, have you & Lucy set a date for when you guys come to the States?
G, come to Ireland to explore our railways - we Irish would love to see you visiting the West of Ireland in particular, where there is an Irish railway museum in Co. Galway 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️
I keep hearing from all the travel bloggers that Lumo is really one of the best companies to travel with in the UK by train.
From this lil ride I had, I'd agree 👍
Nice comparison thanks G! Did you happen to notice how much in carriage luggage space there was on each service? We will be traveling London to Edinburgh with 2 medium sized suit cases and this might be a discriminator as to which service we take. The bags are too big and heavy to fit overhead.
I know there is a luggage limit on Lumo (I think its 1 suitcase per person) so you might wanna check that 👍
@@GLovesTrains we will have one bag each as we will be travelling for 6 weeks. I'm hoping there is plenty of luggage space at the end of each carriage.
Fantastic video G, did i miss the toilet review though? 🙂
I dont think I went to the toilet on the trains 🤣
That sandwich looked nice
as a vegan I have been so used to taking my own food with me
we take a small picnic bag and get out plates and stuff
My favourite was a journey from Bielefeld to Locarno
It started early so we had overnight oats for breakfast
from a Mason Jar
Then lunch was jacket potatoes with hummus in Basel station
and we had pasta (from a nearby restaurant) in the evening by our hotel.
That all sounds absolutely delish! 😁
Great video.
Thanks!
I like to travel first class on both LNER and Avanti West Coast so I can access their first class lounges. I do like Lumo they have the best standard class interior.
