I think I've only been up the Great Orme once, when I was about 11 years old (a very long time ago). My lasting memory was watching a train heading along the coast towards Penmaenmawr through a pair of binoculars
Llandudno, what lovely place. I tend to go out of main holiday season when it is more quiet. I forgotten how many times I have been there. Thank for bring back some memories G
Brilliant Vlog! The North Wales Coast Line is lovely, having ridden on it with both Transport For Wales and Avanti West Coast last month! Llandudno is such a lovely place, the views are beautiful and the area is so nice to be in! Never knew about the Great Orme though!
Great vlog from Llandudno G. I was on holiday there in September last year and it was lovely one of the best holiday destinations I ever went to. The Great Orme tramway was stunning especially with the views. The beach and pier was also great!
I used to visit Llandudno regularly, and soon learned to ride the cable car up if it was running, because it probably wouldn't be by the time I wanted to come down again. And if it wasn't, always to buy the return on the tram. Too windy, too hot, too cold, too rainy, too short-staffed, someone jumped off it and killed themselves - it was always something.
If you get around to your re-revisit, plan for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. The town will be full of the Victorian Extravaganza events and the Llandudno Transport Festival with historical transport of all sorts - not sure about trains though!
I took the very same when going to LLandudno to take an intensive driving course to pass my driving test. All sorts of memories came flooding back thank you xxxx
It's 23 years since I've been to Llandudno, thanks for the reminder! I've not been on the cable car either, hence you have my commiserations. I seem to remember the beach being sandier, but maybe not to the extent I'm thinking!
Everybody goes up the Orme in the tram, when I went up I was in an ice-cream van as I was working in one at the Llandudno Transport Festival a few years ago & needed something to do in the evening 👍
I love the variety of trains you encounter on your travels - up in my neck of the woods we just get the usual 158's and 170's plus ScotRail's Inter7City Class 43's but I think they're looking to eventually replace those old warhorses. I like those Class 197's as they seem very smart. I have never been to Llandudno, (yet), but that has to be one on the bucket list. The views are incredible!
I love a nice trip to Llandudno. I have a dear friend who lives there and my nan was born there. Nice little trip via Merseyrail with a change at Chester. And I do love the Orme tramway!
i love Llandudno! We went there in 2017 and I think the cable car only ran once then! Still, prefer the tram tbh! Oddly enough, we've just got back from a fortnight in Scarborough and I felt the two resorts were quite similar too. Brilliant film G. I know that part of the world so well. My daughter lives in Rhuddlan. Llandudno is a beautiful, unspoilt example of a British seaside town. Had some great times on the pier. Stayed in the white hotel at 11:40 in your film.
Its a Brilliant place , lost track of how many times i have been there, Its a must you get to go on the Cable Car, Tempted to send you a video or some photos, of being on the Cable Car, but may spoil it for you, Thanks for another memorable Place , as well as seeing the views along the sea front on train, Great Vlog G, It was rather windy , hope you were warm Take Care
Can't say no to another Wales video! Llandudno is a lovely area, though every time I've been it has been windy and the cable car shut down. Your previous North Wales videos a couple years ago actually inspired me and I spent a week all over this area on holiday recently!
We always used to go to Llandudno when I was a kid. I remember the cable car being built! Only managed one ride on it as we preferred the tram and the cable car doesn't like the wind. Website says cable car is cash only (and no cashpoint at summit or base station).
Great video as usual G! Jen did ride on the Great Orme with Bryn a couple of years ago. They went up and down on both the Tram and the cable car. She did seem to enjoy it. She also played some mini golf as well!
There's a lot to do on and around the Orme. I think I recall riding a rider braked steel toboggan ride from the lower slopes, which was a lot of fun. There's a private one way road scenic drive to do around the bottom if you have a car. There's an old gold or copper mine to visit on the Orme. That cable car is worth going back for and the tram was great - by the way there's a similar thing in Barcelona. Sometimes from the pier there's an old paddle steamer ship takes you on a trip down the Menai Straits and under the bridge. As you probably know, nearby Conwy is hugely worth a visit, for the castle and the old harbour. Llandudno serves as a launch point for a rail trip based on the north-south running Conwy Valley Line with tons to do on the way, leading to Blaenau Ffestiniog for the old narrow gauge railway to Porthmaddog. Don't miss the slate mine tours at Blaenau. The sister narrow gauge railway is the Welsh Highland Railway which goes between Portmaddog and Caernarvon - another worthy place to stay. Im my opinion North Wales stands as good as most international destinations for a holiday. Its as exciting as most places in the world people have on their bucket list to see. The coast, the mountains, the heritage railways, the fun things to do like mines and quarry zip lines, all make it marvellous. Finally, buy the bluray of the unique, quirky show, The Prisoner, enjoy it and make a long visit to Portmeirion, its location ( near Porthmaddog ). You can stay there, either at the posh hotel or in one of the self catering properties in the 'Village' ................. " Be seeing you "
10:19 living in an isolated farm in the middle of Rural North Wales, especially the Isle of Anglesey, is a very tempting prospect indeed - even those gorgeous houses halfway up the mountain nearer the town or in Portmerion is another very tempting prospect
Nice little video g ,did ya travel on a sunday? platform 14 as ya said very quiet,i used to arrive there from cheadle hulme when i'd go to town always busy and that was back in the late 70' s '/80's 😂 llandudno never visited as a kid or even as adult seems a nice place as north wales is 😂
If I ever visit North Wales one day, I’ll definitely need to try out the Great Orme trams and cable car G 🙂 nice wee bday treat this video as it’s actually my bday today 🎉
If you get to go back to the Little Orme again, if you head around the other side and follow the paths round the base, you should get to a little seal watching area which is very special. Great for bird watching as well
Thanks for the video G. A beautiful trip to beautiful are of Wales. The trams look stunning, glad you walked do see so much more. Lucky you nickers never flew away!!😎🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧💚
Just another fantastic Vblog G such a lovely area to visit I've been up there in a car and back down the views are amazing all round thanks for taking us back for a second time sorry u didn't get to ride the cable car still that's for the re re visit sometime 👍🤗
I've been loving these vlogs. Recently discovered by accident. You have a lovely charming demeanor about you and you clearly enjoy making these videos. Keep it up, from a fellow Wiganer :)
i visited Llandudno back in 2019 while i was holidaying in North Wales & i went up to Great Orme too i went up on the Cable car & came back down on the tram i def would recommend the cable car as the views are stunning hopefully youll get to ride the cable car one day & Llandudno is a lovely seaside town & some parts of the town centre reminds me of Southport for some reason anyway brilliant vlog as always
On your re-re-visit check out West Shore too, there's two beaches in Llandudno and you were on North Shore but the West Shore beach is by far the better beach as it's sandy and part of Conwy Estuary so the tide goes out a long way, there's a gorgeous coastal path too which goes all the way to Deganwy train station which is about a 2 mile walk.
Ah, I do love that part of the world ❤ Been there many a time, interesting stop and place to visit is Conwy, the platform is only big enough for two coaches, but the train is often 4-6 long!😂
Fantastic Llandudno vlog G nice to see you got a dry day last time I went it was very windy and raining which isn't good when the trams have no windows and the cable cars weren't running either . I wonder if they actually work
I need to spend some time in Northern Wales. Other than driving through it, i've never actually seen much of it, which is crazy considering I lived in South Yorkshire and have friends around Chester! But it is a bit far now i'm in Gibraltar.
Hi G, in case you didn't know, Standard Plus is declassified until all the 3 car 197's are in full service, so there's plenty of time to get yourself the TfW Standard+ experience on the cheap.
Great video, G. It’s a place I must visit! I wonder how many cable cars there in the UK… I know of this one, the cable car over the Thames and the one at the Heights of Abraham in Matlock. Are there any others?
I went there last summer. Used the mini tour bus to get up the Great Orme because the tram queue was insane. Watching your video is bringing back good memories and making me think it would be fun to do the tram next time. I took some action figure photos on that beach too, which started a new hobby :)
Hey. I was wondering if you have ever visited Loughborough? It's a large University town and home to the Great Central Railway (The only heritage line in the UK and the world with a Main Line Railway history) and the Bell foundry. It has a lovely park too called Queens Park.
A fellow Mancunian, I'd lovvv to do this train ride along with you if you're looking for volunteers, lols... Ps, I know a lottt of Nth Wales verrr well indeed, my late grandparents owned a static caravan in Llandulas nr Abergele, which we would visit with great regularity in summer season when I was a youngster... As an adult, I'd drive there, taking only an hour or so (I drove quick lols), and just have a saunter about and take in those spectacular views all along the coastline (that being before, unfortunately, I had to cede my driving licence on medical grounds)...
@GLovesTrains Pacific Coast Highway, extending up north from Santa Monica in LA County, Los Angeles, California (at sunset), is deffo bucket list for coastal views, occh I think my mind just org4smed juus day dreamin about it lols 😆
What lovely views, is there much difference between standard plus and just standard on the 197s? The beach and trams are very similar to Brighton, in Brighton it is the oldest electric railway at 140 years old. You can do the who trip again in standard plus and on the cable car 😅😂
I've been to Llandudno once before on a coach trip, (only for a day trip) such a lovely place too, particularly for a seaside holiday. **Wow** though.... I never knew you could get there by train, and from Manc picc too. This would be very handy for me to think about for future reference, since Piccadilly is quite an easy to get to station for me. I'm very glad about this. I'm wondering if it's a little bit expensive though. (to travel to Llandudno) Is there any way to find out the price online beforehand, or just go to Manc picc and ask at the ticket depot there? I loved your video. You make a lot of nice ones, and I like to watch them, even though I don't comment on many of them. I watched your plain flight video too, when you had a lovely trip abroad to Barcelona in Spain. Wow, that must have been a lovely holiday for you. :) You make lots of lovely videos of your train trips, so please keep them coming. :)
Surprised you didn't have a trip on the steamers that run along there. A little further along is Portmerion which is beautiful especially if it's sunny.
Lovely Vid G ..Llandudno is one of my Favourite places in the UK visiting it many times myself..never tire off it and always seem to find something new walking around ..waked up both the great and Little orm ..the little orm obs being much quieter but a great place to just go for peace and quiet
Haven't been to North Wales for ages, can't remember riding that tramway either. You were lucky with the weather, no rain, but the wind did kind of mess up your hairstyle. Perhaps a knicker hat would have helped, assuming you could securely fix it to avoid being blown away!!.
I love Llandudno , when we went on great orme, it was lovely n sunny 🌞, but the higher we got the more cold n windy it got , it was freezing up the top brr, thats a nice train ride from Manchester to Llandudno x
What a coincidence… I’m in Llandudno at the moment. I was last here a child many many years ago ! I went on the tram today .. but the weather was pretty awful so I didn’t hang around very long up there. So I took a ride on the Conwy valley line … the weather may not have been great but the views were.
Another great vlog as always G i remember going to Llandudno when i was younger as the parents car could not make it up the Great Orme and loved the music & your T Shirt
I'm the leader of a walking club group and we visited Llandudno (which we reached by coach) on the last Sunday in June this year. We climbed the Great Orme from the Pier through the Happy Valley (and you are correct, it's steep) before heading off to St. Tudno's Church lower down. We then climbed back up and wandered around the outside of the National Trust managed Parc Farm before taking the steep 'Monks Path' down to the road on the Conwy side of the Orme and then the 'Invalids Path' which returns you to the Victoria Tram terminus and the town centre. As well as doing that on the Sunday with my group, I had also used the train to get me to and back from Llandudno for my walk reconnoitre a few days earlier. Fab place Llandudno, and as always I enjoyed your vlog.
Great vlog. I've been going up the Orme for 50 years. Never once seen the cable car running. I've walked up a few times. Driving up is an experience! The views are amazing. I'd hate to be a gripman in case I got it wrong.
@@GLovesTrains Nope! But I'm a lucky guy. Not! I once fell down a lift shaft. Obviously I survived, but I'm very accident prone. I'm sure the cable would snap or something! Absolutely loving your content. Many thanks
Super video. Cant believe its just 11 quid from Manchester to Llandudno. It does look a bit like Scarborough South Bay too from that angle you were filming. Scsrborough hilly too!
Great vlog as always. Thought the Great Orme transport prices were a bit steep (forgive the pun). The tram was 5p dearer than your train journey and the cable car was a bit more expensive than that
Tramway ticket office attendant here! Was a lovely surprise to see you turn up at the tramway, hope you had a fun time in and around Llandudno :)
I did thank you, was lovely to bump into you 😀
I think I've only been up the Great Orme once, when I was about 11 years old (a very long time ago). My lasting memory was watching a train heading along the coast towards Penmaenmawr through a pair of binoculars

Brilliant Vlog! The North Wales Coast Line is lovely, having ridden on it with both Transport For Wales and Avanti West Coast last month!
Llandudno is such a lovely place, the views are beautiful and the area is so nice to be in!
Never knew about the Great Orme though!
Its absolutely beautiful! Glad I went back for sure, thanks Reece!
How could you not see the orme, it is right there in front of you when in Llandudno!
Fantastic video 📸 ✅✅👍👍
That view from the top is just breathtaking! 😎
I did that very run to Llandudno and up the tramway a couple of weeks ago - loved it!
Coming from Scotland, I have very little knowledge of anywhere in Wales, so I found this video absolutely fascinating. Thanks for opening my eyes 😊
Thanks 😄
If you need directions from Scotland to Wales, it is straight down, and then take a right!
Thanks for posting.
A lovely film, thank you G. I went there many years ago in my Youth Hostelling days. Ah, youth. Enjoy it. 🎉
Haha thanks 😊
Great video, superb commentary as usual, went to Llandudno last year, the first time in many years and absolutely loved it ,classy place.
Lovely!
Another cracking ride out. I too would have walked down. What a fabulous place we should all visit one day 😊

Great video of Llandudno, brought back good memories, spent many a time camping in North Wales.

You make lots of lovely videos of your train trips, so please keep them coming.
Thanks! I can see why you visit many times, lots to do there 😄
No knicker farewell. What a let down !!! Joking 😂.Keep up the good work
Ridden my motorbike up there a fair few times, super steep roads!
Also..
"I'm ormy, ormy ormy ormy!" Etc...😂
Haven't been to North Wales for ages, can't remember riding that tramway either. You were lucky with the weather, no rain, but the wind did kind of mess up your hairstyle. Perhaps a knicker hat would have helped, assuming you could securely fix it to avoid being blown away!!.
Such a joy and a really good laugh thank you!
Thanks!
I love Llandudno , when we went on great orme, it was lovely n sunny 🌞, but the higher we got the more cold n windy it got , it was freezing up the top brr, thats a nice train ride from Manchester to Llandudno x
Sounds about right! Always cold on top of summits 😂
What a coincidence… I’m in Llandudno at the moment. I was last here a child many many years ago ! I went on the tram today .. but the weather was pretty awful so I didn’t hang around very long up there. So I took a ride on the Conwy valley line … the weather may not have been great but the views were.
Amazing! Hope you enjoyed 😄
Another great vlog as always G i remember going to Llandudno when i was younger as the parents car could not make it up the Great Orme and loved the music & your T Shirt
Haha thanks a lot 😄
Snottytastic to the seaside ⛱️
Sounds a great walk! 😄
The Great Orme Tramway is amazing. I went there in June
Great vlog. I've been going up the Orme for 50 years. Never once seen the cable car running. I've walked up a few times. Driving up is an experience! The views are amazing. I'd hate to be a gripman in case I got it wrong.
Not once?! Geez 😂
@@GLovesTrains Nope! But I'm a lucky guy. Not! I once fell down a lift shaft. Obviously I survived, but I'm very accident prone. I'm sure the cable would snap or something! Absolutely loving your content. Many thanks
Thanks for the vlog G it was very pretty.
Thanks 😄
Eating outdoors in Llandudno is very brave. The seagulls there take no prisoners!
Yet another great video - well done but when are you going to visit the highest slum in Wales could be after all this time it has been replaced?
Walked the Grate Orme on more than one occasion, I like to climb up then get the tramway down as a treat :)
Ah nice glad to hear 😀
Super video. Cant believe its just 11 quid from Manchester to Llandudno. It does look a bit like Scarborough South Bay too from that angle you were filming. Scsrborough hilly too!
Thanks, glad you agree haha
Love a bit of wales and orme
great trip out
My sister went up on the cable car. Her dog really enjoyed it too.
Great vlog as always. Thought the Great Orme transport prices were a bit steep (forgive the pun). The tram was 5p dearer than your train journey and the cable car was a bit more expensive than that
nice vlog in a lovely place llandudno is really nice cheers g
Thanks 😊
