As a train enthusiasts, I absolutely love the Eurostar 373's! Its just the sounds they make when they pass, and the looks with their iconic livery! But the older version from the 1990's was the best though, but still, awesome video! 😃
"We will be running with our slowest quick" is an amazing attempt... maybe he needed to use your sponsor...
Did make us chuckle 😂
When the tunnel opened my sister was still living in Lille and it made such a difference not to have to spend ages on a ferry to visit her! Great video, shame about the lack of knicker hook!
Haha thanks! 😄
For anyone who hasn't been to St Pancras, it is an absolute gem of a station and always so quiet and there for you to enjoy having a mooch even if not on a Eurostar.
It normally is...until all trains get cancelled in King X. Then parts of it become hell on earth! Yep, been there, done that, when all trains out of King's X got cancelled due to an incident at Peterborough. Only option was to go over to St Pancras and catch a train home via Nottingham. But yes, it is a lovely station. And I do love that big clock. And 2 hours or so to Brussels. I'd imagine flying wouldn't be much different by the time you include getting there, security etc.
I love the Eurostar. Even in standard class, it’s very comfy. It’s also impressive that you can get 5G signal all the way along the Chunnel. Definitely the most efficient way to get into mainland Europe, if a little more expensive than a flight.
G. One word... INTERRAIL! You'll love it and it's amazing. I'm 47 and I've done it 3 times in the last 10 years and the last time with a broken ankle.
Explore Europe by train, east of France is very affordable...:)
I'm a TW and it's been fine 😊
Would love to 😄
@GLovesTrains Then do it! It's a lot cheaper than most people think 😊
P.S last time was in December, to Finland, with a broken ankle.... just saying 🤗
(Technically I ended it in Estonia. Tallinn is wonderful)
I second this. I wish I'd discovered Interrail earlier. I've done three big trips in the last three years and have another coming up in March. I'm an British ex-pat, so not living in the UK any more means I can use my Interrail ticket to see all of the UK too. TOP TIP - they have 25% or 30% sales about twice a year and you can buy your tickets up to 12 months before travel, so stock up in advance!
Not every country is as suited for Interrail, though, even if it's valid. In most of Eastern Europe, domestic tickets are so cheap that you really have to try hard to pay more than a travel day on an Interrail pass, getting reservations can also be a pain (depending on the country, they are often mandatory on long-distance trains like TGVs, and harder to get than an online ticket, looking at you, Spain). But in other countries, including the UK (for those living there, to get to and from London, as you generally only get 2 travel days to spend in your home country), they can really bring the prices down.
Oh, and wait for a sale if you can, it's often 10 to sometimes 30% off. Otherwise, just buy one when you need it, there's little use to buy them months in advance at full price.
I love your video. :-) I rode with Eurostar 27/12 from London to Brussels in Premium Class. Siemens e320. Great train. And St. Pancrass ❤ Probably the the most beautiful station in the world.
Nice video G. Great journey on Eurostar and I love the 373s. Good thing they're still going strong on Eurostar.
Cheers 👍
That ticket price looks like great value, wow. Enjoyed the video, thanks G! I had a weekend in Brussels a few years back and it's a surprisingly interesting city. Great Belgian beers too!
Awesome, thanks a lot 😄
St. Pancras blows me away every time. It’s my favourite piece of London architecture. I can’t believe they wanted to demolish it. On my bucket list is a stay in the Renaissance hotel.
Agreed. I used the station in the 1980s and it was falling to pieces. Dirt and grime everywhere. As you know the campaign led by Sir John Betjeman saved it. Today St Pancras is in my opinion the greatest train station in the world.
As a seasoned Interailer I can assure you that since brexit it has become a lot longer getting to the train with an earlier time for showing up at stations as we are now Third Countries.
Have you thought of Interailing? If so consider First Class as it covers all trains.
If you really want to travel at really high speed try the Italian Red Arrow high speed train.
Lille Europe is a great station to change at for going South rather than Paris.
The main issue is in St Pancras, it has a hard time coping with the masses passing through. I went back to Brussels this very Monday (the 13:01, there's a Paris departure half an hour earlier), and I've had to stand for the entire duration in the waiting area after I got there about 90' earlier... In Brussels, it's better, more space and of course only the London trains use it, I would risk arriving maybe just 40-45' before departure there.
That entrance is like walking into a Cathedral of Train Travel - bloody gorgeous
Antwerp also feels like that
Fantastic blog as ever G glad you had a great trip to Brussels looks a lovely place, thanks for taking us with u on your travels cheers 👍🙂
Eurostar is a great route I once did Edinburgh to Amsterdam via London on a lumo and then Eurostar, going through 5 countries in a day, painfully long but great too do
Brilliant vlog! I'm glad you finally made it out to Europe on the Eurostar! It must have been a strange feeling crossing into France from the UK on a single train!
They are great trains the 373's from what I've heard. Some actually prefer them over the 374's (newer ones).
I'm glad you encountered a lot of friendly people too!
I hope to do the journey one day, people are telling me that I should venture out into Europe on the train!
Thanks a lot Reece! I will have to try out the 374s as well some time, but yes it was great to travel into Europe by train 😀
Yep...no comparison between 373 and 374 and Northern ! Seriously though regular E* passengers prefer 373. It's quieter (no distributed power) and smoother riding owing to articulated suspension.
Brilliant G! Always watch your video but especially your trips abroad.
All these new experiences thanks for sharing them with us all, Eurostar looked amazing, the video is amazing well done 👍👍✅✅
Eurostar Premier is pretty much a fixed price, but you can get lucky sometimes with Eurostar Plus. I only paid an extra £10 each way when I went to Paris last year and for the bigger seat plus meal, it was more than worth it.
Great vlog G, riding the Eurostar is still on my bucket list! I enjoyed watching.
Thanks Sam 😄
St. Pancras is a work of art, dedicated to travel, isn't it? What a stunning building. (GLovesTrains becomes GLearnsFrench in this one. 🤣) This is how I would travel to the Continent if I had to - I'd forget the airport faff and take the Eurostar! What a superb service - glad you took us along for the voyage as you branch out beyond the shores of the UK. Merci beaucoup, G!
Als ze hebben Nederlands gesproken dan dat is grappig.
😂 sorry if if grammar is bad, studying Dutch.
Finally you made Eurostar ! I realise it's a fresh and exciting experience and I hope you will be able to try a longer ride in future.
6:52 you can hear the inter-vehicle earodynamic droning sound thats responsable for the distinctive "woo woo woo" sound a 373 makes when passing at speed
Belgium is a gorgeous country. It doesn't get enough credit on the continent and in the UK as a really good travel destination. Really glad you got to do this trip though, there's something about European Rail Travel that makes you look back at the UK and wonder how on Earth we are so far behind on pricing, timing, connections, and most of all, the quality of the transport. I remember back in 2008 being in Austria and just feeling like I'd stepped 20 years into the future 😂😂. Are you planning on any interrail style journeys in the future?
Haha brill! I hope to be able to travel a bit more 😄
Great video G, Belgium is a awesome country, I have been there a few times and honestly would love to go back.
Cheers Cyber 😀
Another great review by you and as usual, always clear and very well put together.
Thanks 😄
the Eurostar trains look amazing & Brussles looks like a lovely city to visit brilliant vlog
Thanks Michael 😄
Another great video babe you should travel on the Eurostar from London to Amsterdam then get the ferry from Amsterdam & Newcastle ❤
Done this trip twice. Such a relaxing alternative to dealing with airports
Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. I went to Amsterdam for my first ride on Eurostar and that was awesome!
Brilliant!
Glad to see you on the Eurostar, honestly I love it far too much! e300s are seriously great to me :)
These trains seemed so glamorous and modern back when I first saw them!
When I did that trip last autumn, it was pitch black outside until roughly Brussels, so I appreciate seeing what I missed. I was glad to be able to practice my rusty French in Brussels. Can't wait till my next trip!
I did the same trip last September. I had a lovely sausage butty in the John Betjeman pub in St Pancras. Really enjoyed the journey. We eere told the area around Brussels Midi was a bit dodgy but as we got a taxi to our hotel it was difficult to tell. Great video again G . Thanks for posting.
Seemed alright when I walked through it tbh 👍
The area isn't great, tbh, I work right next to the station, not saying you would risk a knife stabbing at every corner, but there are quite a few homeless people hanging around, and unfortunately, drugs become a major problem... But at least during the day, when you keep your wits about you, you should be fine. The public transport isn't too bad either, so take a metro or a tram, just keep your nose closed at the bus and tram stop underneath the tracks, even when they send a cleaning crew every few days, it frankly stinks.
I want to go to Eurostar one day. I'm planning on going all the way to Romania by train. I'll go from London to Brussels with Eurostar, Brussels to Vienna with Nightjet and Vienna to Bucharest with CFR.
There used to be a through Eurostar from London to Marseille, serving also Lyon and Avignon. What a journey that was! It no longer runs unfortunately and you have to trek across Paris for a connecting TGV. That’s progress!
If you transfer in Lille, you can skip the jog across Paris!
Bonjour G awesome vlog nice to see you travelling on the Eurostar the nearest I got to this is travelling on the original trains when used between kings cross and leeds
Bonjour Stuart 😄
Brilliant video G, I've done the Eurostar to Paris in 2009 both with school on an end of term trip to Disneyland Paris and then again in August that same year with family for a short holiday in Paris. You were quite lucky to get an old Eurostar, the Class 373. Brussels is still somewhere I've not been to yet, I'd love to do it someday. :)
Thanks Reuben, lovely to hear 😄
I have travelled many times from Kings Cross and once from St Pancras on the HS1 line on a Canterbury bound train. Eurostar is also on my list
St Pancras International was at serious risk of demolition in the 1960s but a poet was able to make a petition and eventually stop British Rail just less than 7 days away from its scheduled demolition as it was grade listed
Yes, Paul Betjeman, whose statue you could see at 3:47, admiring the canopy.
Great film G. I have never seen you do a promo like that before, very professional! You should be proud your neighbour started watching your vlog. I am proud for you!
Cracking video G keep on making them ❤
Cheers 😄
Amazing G ..informative,great fun ..you are amazing ..I went on Eurostar to Paris with the old livery ..awesome to travel on.
Nice Vid G chocolate beer and chips..thats gonna be my reason to visit Brussels ..i do love the way yuo seem to be ticking off trips ive got planned myself.. at least this way i get to view before going
Hey Gloves, that was really good, thanks 🙂
Have you checked out Blackfriars station in London? If you like flowing water it's well worth a visit 🙂
Also, there is a coffee shop with several vegan options next to the south entrance
Thanks I've not been there yet 😄
Thanks for the video G, definitely lovely trains 🚆 hopefully will do this someday!!😎🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧
when traveling to the UK, we always go by Euro Star from Lille Europe... excellent vlog G... did you get to see the "manneken pis"?
Merci pour ce superbe vlog et j'espère vous revoir très bientôt ici en Europe, par Euro Star.
Neil et Natalie à Dunkerque.
Haha no I've only just heard of this mannekin 😂
Belgium is beautifl, i when back in the day before eurostar was extend pre 2000. loved every moment of it and love the food and people. such a great city
We used Eurostar last year for the first time in a while. We noticed most people bought food from one of the outlets in the departure lounge to take with them on the train. It may explain why on train choice is limited.
Doing this journey myself in a few days, so excited❤
I haven’t been on Eurostar but we went on Avanti West Coast from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston with my mum.
Such a cool, beautiful journey thank you for taking us along!!! 😎
Fabulous, I wasn't expecting a trip on the Eurostar tonight 😊 and £57 is a bargain. The check-in time has always put me off, but you were through super quick 😊 so maybe maybe.. cheers 👍
Yeah didn't take too long at all 👍
Belgium is a nice country to visit. I have been many times before. I recommend you visit mini Europe and travel on a tram as well. I've been on Eurostar as well years ago to Disney Land Paris. Thank you for sharing G.
1:48 You've also got my car down there as well, only one person in the world could pull off a metallic fluorescent pink McLaren supercar
Also, imagine the scene at Brussels; anything to declare, yeah, just the knicker monster haha
Love to try out Eurostar one day, every time I'm in London I always like stop by and see them.
Nice video. I look forward to you doing a full interrail trip around Europe sometime soon.
Well done G, so glad you've got hings like sconsers to help you on your way, after so may video's....'put your knickers on your 'ed'
You always seem to cope so well with your hairloss, I've recommended a lot of my friends that also have traction alopecia to watch your vids to see someone not letting it affect them :D
It's only a matter of time before you get the Interrail bug. As you should. 😉 Great watch, thanks!
Cheers 😄
Awesome video, awesome journey 👍
Sounds like the train announcer could have done with using Rosetta Stone to practice his English translations 😂
Haha it's great they speak in 3 languages tho 😄
Thanks G great vlog. Long time since I rode the Eurostar will need to put it on my list. ❤😊😊
Omg, love love ur videos!
Just wish you’d add some more content video about where you stay while doing the video!
Would add so much more depth and content to where you’re at in the world!!❤
Hey, we stayed at that Travelodge a year and a half ago after taking the Eurostar from Paris. Not a bad hotel or walk although it's not necessarily in the most interesting area, but still pretty safe and fairly quiet and perfectly fine for a night or two before or after a train trip. But at this point I'm more of a Premier Inn person. 😊
Love a good Premier Inn 😄
Lovely video. Was on the Eurostar yesterday from LDN to Amsterdam. Bit more relaxed than flying. So funny the person next to you checked out your vlog!
Loving it G, i was able to take the Thalys / Eurostar as part of a package with KLM from Inverness to Bruxelles Midi in October last year - how innovative. 186mph between Schipol to Antwerp and then Bruxelles amazing !!! Tried SNCB then between Bruxelles and Ghent and then Ghent to Bruges - if you thought Bruxelles was amazing try the other 2 !!! They are orffff the chart !!!!
Great stuff! 😄
Fantastic Video. Well Done.
Wow! I am envious!
class 373 my fravort locomotive. the sound it makes at full speed when passing by on hs1 track is mega
I love eurostar, using it in June to start my two week holiday in france
Great stuff, G. I had a friend who lived in Brussels and visited there a couple of times (and had my stag do there!) it’s been years since I’ve been though (Waterloo was the uk Eurostar station there!)
Did you see the Mannekin pis in Brussels? 😜
Another terrific video G ❤
Thanks 😄
Great video. Safe travels ❤
wow you have come far well worth a watch you work really hard and enjoy it keep going g😀
The Grand Place is stunning at night when it's lit up!
I’m so jealous, I would love to travel on Eurostar, but for me living in Inverness it would involve a flight or expensive rail journey to London.. absolutely on my bucket list
Great vlog G
Great video G! Definitely worth booking ahead of time as you can get tickets down to £39 and Plus tickets at £79 which is great value. Did you get to see the manneken pis statue/fountain and out to the Atomium?
Cheers, and na didn't get chance go that far out this time
Great video!
Cheers!
Great video G, I have been on the Eurostar before to Paris😊your looking good for this video 😊
You send us today a must-see must-do visit to the Star and also the St Pancras Station, definitely, thank you! And .... "Rosetta Stone also work along flowing water"!!! :D :D :D Keep on travelling, you inspring personality, G!
Oh! And when in Brussles pay perhaps some attention to their many comics museums and shops. Hergé museum (Tintin and more) is south east out in the landscap in a cute university town, accesible by the local trains ;-) !
Thanks very much!! 😄
The Eurostar services are amazing. I rode this with my mum last summer and I got all three main Eurostars in one week I was up in Belgium and the Netherlands! That being the:
Eurostar E320 (Got that first, LSPS - BRSN)
Thalys/Eurostar TGV (that one with eight coaches and the smoother front, AMSM - BRSN)
Eurostar E300 - my favourite and the one I loved the most as it’s so rare to get them these days (BRSN - LSPS)
I sadly couldn’t manage the other TGV, but they’re literally the same.
Wow G travels to europe. A whole new series of potential train trips. Hopefully with more sponsorship we could see G on the Glacier Express 😊. Great
Great video. This is a trip I do I lot, and you really captured it. Next time in Brussels: check out the trams. There are all sorts of interesting rides inside the city - and beyond. From mini-Europe, to the African museum.
Will do 😄
Yay another cup for the collection
What's the difference between plus and premium. I'm going to assume it's like avanti where its more leg room and in premium you get food service. Did you get any delay repay for the delay?
I believe spacious seats and food 👍. And no not sure if they do delay repay but didn't really think about it anyway 😂
@GLovesTrains well by the sounds of it you enjoyed your trip and I hope you did 😁
Nice video G, I've been through Brussels Midi loads of times on my way to or from other places but I've never actually been for a walk into the city. Maybe one day I will make some time for that.
I would be interested to know, when you've been on an E320, whether you prefer that or the E300?
I've been on both and they are quite similar. I think i prefer the E320 because i like to put my arm up onto the window frame. On the E300 theres an really cold airvent so i couldnt do that there
Are Eurostar still going to keep the Class 373 or will they replace them with new trains or to order more Class 374 E320 that were built by Siemens. I do like Eurostar and I have been on them at least 6 times.
Nice one. I made this self-same journey back last June - my first trip back to Belgium in over 20 years. I actually took the advantage of the free ticket to Antwerp where I stayed for the duration with additional journeys to Ypres and Amsterdam. Major delays on the return to London so I missed my coach back to Cardiff - would probably have missed it anyway since I got my timings all wrong :D
Great to hear and shame about the coach!
There's one bit of the LGV Nord after Lille which has 'bouncy castle' ride quality. I do prefer the newer e320 sets as they're not as cramped, but I did like seeing the OG TMST sets zip through Tonbridge whenever I visited my grandparents as a kid.
Fantastic Video G I Enjoyed It Great Train Ride😊
Is great to see you do a Eurostar trip. Before 2019 it was my dream to go on it from Australia.
another great vlog g cheers
Awesome Video G Loves Trains 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
I’ve been on this route twice en route to Bruges and Cologne. Previously I went to Paris when it went from Waterloo and it is a lot faster on the English side now. I can claim to have been to Brussels although my only experience of the city was sitting in the square outside the station while waiting for the gate to open!
Hopefully you go to Paignton in the summer
How do you know which trains are old and new Eurostars? Do they let you know when you book?
Na I just saw when I was on the platform lol 😂
The older train (E300) is made of 1 power car on each end and 18 coaches ini between. While the new one (E320) is made of 16 car without dedicated power car
G, if I can get a response, that would be amazing and very much appreciated.
As the majority of Eurostar services are now operated by Class 374s, it is very rare to get on a 373. Is there a way to find out which train is forming which services?
Thanks!
Thanks for the inspiration, I should give this a go!
The frontage of St Pancras is a hotel, of course, though I'm sure staying there would cost you considerably more than a Travelodge!
Aye indeed!
Eurostar looks great and not a bad price. The standard seats looked very nice. Hopefully a new subscriber sitting next to you, G 😊
