As stated in the description and video, of course, there are times a gaming chair might make sense; in general, however, our opinion on this very subjective matter is that you should buy a similarly priced office chair for the best outcome. But, as everyone's body is different and setups are different, you shouldn't feel bad about liking your gaming chair if you do have one and like it. This video includes mini-reviews of several office chairs that we've now been using for about a year at the office. The project started in December of 2019, then we filmed the bulk of the video in August of 2020, and added concluding thoughts in December of 2020. All of these chairs have been swapped around between the team for months now, and we eventually all picked our favorites. Patrick ended up preferring the ErgoChair 2, Steve preferred the Aeron after much adjustment and struggling to find the best positioning, Keegan and Andrew use the Komene Mesh chair (whoever comes in first -- we're buying a second one to solve this), and Mike uses the SL4000, but will probably also switch to an office chair once he decides which one he prefers. He does not like the SL5000 as much as the SL4000, due to the 5000's wider base. Check out our Cyberpunk graphics optimization guide here: ruclips.net/video/TEVXVf4Hu0U/видео.html
Thanks for clarifying. Furthermore, it is a fool's errand to think one will find one chair that will be comfortable 12 hours a day. The best thing is to have at least two different chairs so you can switch after a few hours. This is the only thing that works. I did pay $400 or $500 for a DXRacer a few years ago only because it was the first chair i could find that had a LOCKING RECLINE position. My other is an Eames lounge chair. Both i highly recommend but it really goes without saying that you need to add customizations to both chairs to achieve satisfactory ergonomics.
I clicked on a video titled “don’t buy gaming chairs” and quickly learned more about marketing than I had ever known. Give these people a like man... they go above and beyond on EVERYTHING
I was shopping for bike tires once and asked why these tires cost twice as much as the other ones. The reply was that they'll last three times longer, and you won't get a flat. Turns out he was right.
I've owned 3 or 4 different "racing" gamer chairs in my life, two of which were over $200, and all of them only lasted me between 1 and 1.5 years before breaking to where they were no longer usable, either an arm rest completely breaking off, or the back being stuck in the most far back position and no longer locking in upright positions. I finally went and got a mesh-style office chair for like $150 at office depot and it's been over 4 years and it's only now begun to deteriorate to the point of me needing a new one soon.
My AK Racing gaming chair is going strong for 7 years already, sat in it every day for at least 5 hours, and it wont need replacement any time soon, i guess there are good ones out there.
Where I live this damn chair is $1500 and I almost bought this for my husband but I'm glad my brain told me to look up reviews 😂 because that would of hurt my pocket 🥲
@@StardustLegacyFighter I've owned entirely too many chairs over the past 20 years, starting out on a cheap folding chair and finally with an HM Mira 2. When i was in college I bought my first office chair, some $150 fake leather chair and it lasted all of 2 years. I bought a nicer, $200 office chair that lasted just as long. I ended up paying for two more chairs, each $300, that likewise lasted 3 years each. (Technically I still have my last one but I had to repair it twice to different failures). I ended up keeping my HM Mira 2 from my office when we all went WFH, and after six years of sitting in the thing for 8+ hours a day every day, it still feels brand new. It might be expensive to throw down $1000 for a chair, but if that chair is still going to be around after I've already gone through $1000 of worthless shitty gaming chairs, it's absolutely worth it. Boots Theory of Economics, and it's the lesson I try to tell people everytime they tell me they're thinking about getting a $300 gaming chair.
I’m currently using a straight back (as in 90 degrees) dinning room chair and boy can that get uncomfortable after a while, and I’ve slept in some pretty uncomfortable chairs.
@Steve Pringle this is exactly why I caved and bought a chair... a reasonably priced "gaming" chair that seemed halfway decent... a week or two before this video came out. -_- there are too many options and it's not clear which ones are actually decent, well made, and worth spending more.
I have had my Herman Miller Aeron for over 9 years now. I spend on average 12 hours a day in it (sliding between my work and gaming rigs). One arm fabric has worn out, and the wheels are a bit worse for wear, but it is the best chair I have ever owned. I used to break and replace chairs every year, usually spending between 100 and 700USD. I have never been happier with a purchase than the Aeron. I live in Thailand so replacement parts are hard to come by, but the next time I am in the US I will just get new arms and wheels and it will be perfect again, hopefully for another 9 years.
Holy shit, this chair costs 12x minimal wage in my country. Same situation with PC case prices. I don't understand how electronics get overseas at a better price than mechanical items. I wish some brand out there would be copying them for cheaper but it doesn't seem like it.
It speaks volumes about your integrity as a reviewer that you make a point about addressing core strength & fitness, rather than just pointing to a product to magically improve posture. Thank you GN!
As a Physical Therapist who also likes to game, its amazing to see content creators emphasize the importance of keeping the body strong ALONG with proper positioning. This is why I love this channel
well then, may i ask whats the best positioning for the arms and wrists? i hear that its good to have armrests line up with the table. also hear that armrest should be just that, RESTS. my right hand with the mouse is fine, but when it comes to the left hand for the kb, it gets a bit uncomfy as the kb is elevated no matter what and my wrist rests on the table. i think itd be ideal to have a shorter desk so instead of my arms being 90 degrees, its more like 95ish. but my table is too tall and my chair doesnt go high enough. but then at that point my feet dont touch the ground. so mainly i think i need a shorter table. ive been trying the seat lower and full arms up to elbows on the table but i dont think its that much better
@@Sinsanatis You are basicly right. Back should be straight, arms resting on the arm rest without and pressure on the wrist/forearm on the table. Also keeping the wrist striaight as possible. Alot of the reading ive done actually has just the edge of the elbow on the rest and the majority of the arms are on the table
@@bryanhovanec3471 to achieve straight arms i have to sit up really straight which i think i still need to work more on my back muscles to hold. back to more or less my old position i guess. still the main issues is my feet dont touch the ground, but i just kinda put my feet on the chair legs for that. then the other thing is that the kb still angles my left hand up and i rest my wrist on the table which i know isnt ideal, but keeping my wrist up for extended gaming sessions would be uncomfortable
@@Sinsanatis i also have the same issues, i tend to slouch while at the chair. And def dont have your wrist ext this can cause the extra pressure that will lead to carpel tunnel
Best chair I ever had was a $50 office chair from Ikea. It lasted nearly ten years before it was too hideous to keep around. Every one of those gaming chairs I've sat in seemed super slippery and uncomfortable and I always thought it was a scammy idea in the first place.
Best chair I ever owned was a $100 POS from Sams club. Thing lasted me like 5-7 years before finally dying. Nowdays chairs a little more expensive than it last 2-3 years before I have to retire them. Hell they only last me 1 year but due to financial constraint I have to keep them 2-3 before I have enough to buy a new chair.
Testimony: I owned a gaming chair, it destroyed my tailbone and lower back. Bought a used herman miller and now I don't have the pain. Completely gone. This channel is for the people! 🤝👏👏👏🙏
When people scream Herman Miller costs too much I remind them to check the used markets and office buildings closing.

Testimony: owned a gaming chair. Didn't have back pain before. Less than a year ago I replaced it with an office chair. Because… it was broken and I listened to this channel, which I regretted. Next chair is a gaming chair again. Ah, and I never had nor do I have back pain, and I spend around 12-16 hours, each and every day, in my chair. And I'm closer to 60 than to 50.

@@davidfence6939 Still too much. Yes, some people are "poor".
I bought a Secretlabs chair a couple years ago for so much money it's embarrassing. I went ahead and returned it for a refund, paying the ridiculous restocking fees. After that, I got a $200 office chair on sale for $120 and it has been my chair for all things office/gaming related ever since. I can sit in it for 12+ hours every day without any issues and it is amazing.
Awesome! I've wanted someone to cover this for so long, the gaming chairs seem to be such a meme. I use the Aeron myself, the thought process was 10+ year warranty when I was previously going going through generic "office chairs" every 2 years at about $200 a pop, so might as well just spend more on something that will last - no issues after about 5 years so far, comfort is fine, not amazing but gets the job done sitting for some 15 hour days.
Good to see you, Jarrod! Yes, that makes a ton of sense and I think is probably the same thought process as the big IT businesses go through when buying them for employees. Not everyone can afford a $1000+ instant hit for a new chair (vs. 5x $200 expenses over 10 years), so clearly there's a market for cheaper ones, but for people who can afford it, your argument makes a lot of sense!
@@GamersNexus I actually prefer my gaming chair vs any office/ergo chair ive tested so far, but i dont like to sit ergonomically :P i usually keep my legs on the chair and im a small fella 179cm 55kg corrected height lol this is what happens with the devils lettuce
We used aeron's at the base I worked at. best damn chair i ever had. later I got a steelcase leap v2. still have it after 5 years. amazing chair. I sleep in it lol
At least lttstore.com doesn't sell a stupid gaming chair. Linus may be a high pitched easily excitable sponsor boi, but at least he's a good and honest businessman that doesn't sell products he doesn't use himself. His “showcase” and sponsored videos are definitely getting close to shill territory, but he never says anything he doesn't fully believe, he just may not fully show *all* of the cons of the product in the sponsored video itself. A great example would be the 8k gaming video he did with the 3090. Everything he said was factually true, but iirc he just didn't make a comment on the price of the 3090. He definitely slammed it in his actual review of the card tho, so it's not like he will never say bad things about a product, he just usually won't say them in the sponsored content itself.
I find it amazing that GN have goes at others for the same thing. I mean you can buy a black T shirt for like under $10 if you want so why pay $20 for a GN one? It's just generic and millions of youtubers and companies use the same tshirt with just a different heat transfer printed on. Not as though its actually bespoke. And you can get proper T shirts designed for specific uses like working in hot environments for cheaper! I mean training tops for Soccer teams are way less and in some cases have stitching. And usually these places sell their products at the stadium meaning no need for postage and packaging. And you'd be supporting a local business. I mean it's not like a largge heat transfer costs under a $1 and that the T Shirts cost under $6 and not like GN charge $21 for a tshirt... I do think its funny they charge nearly the same for hoodies at what Prem Clubs in the UK charge for training tops designed for actual athletes from smaller brands like Castore that is owned partly by Tennis Pro Andy Murray and makes kits for the now multibillion rich Newcastle United (their owner worth 350BN GBP and makes them the richest sports team in the world) and Wolves that are owned by super rich Fosun International. I mean that is something... How much did GN spend on the R&D of the product? How many different designs did they pay graduates to design? Or... OR.... Did they just take a PNG they already had to someone that prints onto tshirts and say "print us 'x' amount of these" .... And then charge the same price as companies that spend millions and billions on design and materials used. Mmmm... $30 for a hoodie made cheap or one that was bespoke designed for the club i support and more importantly... Designed to go through wear and tear and used on the training ground. I mean no offence... But google Adama Traore and see how many times he has had his shoulder dislocated by people pulling on his arm and shirt to stop him... His shoulder joint gave way before the stitching did.
Vehicle racing seats are meant to keep your SPINE in line in all condition for a long time amongst other things .also you must not be overweight and be relatively fit ..these guys do not Qualify
@@Blunk_ I have racing buckets in my NISMO and they are soooo comfortable, i6s like my car is giving me a hug! Seriously though I'm mildly overweight, have a bad back, and put in some serious hours driving, they give me no issues.
I've switched from a gaming/racing chair to a Steelcase Gesture office chair. The difference in quality and comfort is staggering. When you think about it at first the price is mental, but this chair will at least last you a decade. In the end, it's a good deal.
@@kwaliex Late reply but like they said a really good office chair is a buy once and never need to worry about a new one for the rest of your life essentially.
@@kwaliex There are office chairs, and then there are office chairs... It all depends on what you can afford, how much time you spend sitting in it, and how long you want it to last. If I could afford to spend $2k on a chair, I absolutely would. Especially as you get older, a good chair is critical for posture and back health. Spending a lot of time sitting in a crappy chair with bad posture is a great way to develop anything from sciatica (which is extremely uncomfortable and bothers you literally 24/7 - while sitting, laying, or standing), to much more severe and painful issues. TL;DR: Don't try to shame people for spending a lot on something that they probably spend the majority of their waking hours sitting in. Some day you'll get it.
Another Gesture owner chimming it. Even though it's absolutely very expensive but it's indeed worth it in the long run, especially if the user spends a lot of time on it. My issues were only that it's kinda trap heat and the head rest is a tad taller for my short height. The arm rest though is simply the best there is!
4D armrests I've seen can travel through time, but have all been broken as they only seem to go one direction - forwards. No fast forward function on them either.
Gotta say my gaming chair i picked up 3 years or so ago is one of my highest financial regrets. 400$ to make my back and legs hurt, compared to a free office chair i got from work that was wayyy more comfortable and i could sit in far longer without aching or losing circulation.
Mine is the only chair that I've had that didn't cost an arm and a leg and also didn't break down physically after a year lol. It's been mostly cosmetic issues with it though but I tried them out when I was buying. I have yet to find another chair that is either supportive or big enough without worrying about padding breaking down into ass numbing territory lol
@@GamersNexus ahhh i have no idea what the chair i have now is. Pretty generic looking..... the gaming chair is an Ak Racing something or other (looks exactly like all the other gaming chairs, as predicted), i got it from bestbuy.
Way late on this one - but in my experience a good chair for work shouldn't be 'comfy'. A sofa or arm chair should be comfy. A desk chair should be supportive and something you forget your in. Like a good shoe - you shouldn't really notice it during prolonged use. It should provide support where needed and encourage you to sit properly. If you want something comfy then go for it, ultimately your the one sitting in it. But i spent £400 on back problems before getting a Herman Miller and its been a year since my neck and back hurt. Worth it to me.
Opposite for me, those Herman Millers have actually caused me discomfort, not quite pain but discomfort, really dislike them and prefer cushioned chairs instead. Personal preference I guess.
Thank you for doing this video. I almost just bought a 500 dollar gaming chair cause I'm looking for something more comfortable. I now know to go get an office chair tomorrow. Thank you sir! BTW, I love how you show you guys nerding out in this video. Awesome.
Best way to test chair for gaming is go shop at try sitting it. I tried gaming chair only once, I couldn't stand sitting it that chair for more than minute. Neither mesh filling office chairs are good for gaming. I picked every time decently hard foam seat cushion with breathable mesh. Price around 50-150USD after currency conversion for US. Got 2nd one only after many years of daily use, 1st one was worn cushion cover, while last one was bit loosy I just tightened screws and it lasts. Also cushion was initially wrong angled resulting in sliding off chair, I was almost ready to throw in trash, but it went flattened to become comfortable finally. If it breaks its cheap to get new one. But comfort and value is great. Avoid synthetic leather cushion cover. Forearm rest is best made from rubber coating, Did I forget to say it shall be wheel chair? That's all from me.
Nope. You're not alone, and you are correct. Aside from mice and high hz monitors i cant think of any "gaming" product id waste my money on. (And even then, theres a lot of low quality gaming mice floating around) Gaming keyboards? Mediocre and expensive, a few in corsairs lineup are the only "good" ones i know of, but more expensive than better keyboards. Whereas a non-gaming branded keyboard like Ducky, Das and PFU are excellent quality for a modest price Gaming headsets? Same shit. Cant think of a good one that isnt in excess of ~$350-$400 and even those ones are lackluster compared to studio headphones made by proper audio companies for $200 At the end of the day its unreasonable to expect a company that sells everything from headphones to chairs and gaming desks to be as good as a company that specialises in one specific product
I agree pretty much. When its explicitely marketed as gaming, i have to look into it more. Some products are good enough and I buy them but yeah, its a red flag for me.
XD Im watching this went to the comments because of something completely random and noticed this comment whiles sitting on one of those church style Blue/Black/or brown metal foldout chairs. I lost it when I read that .
Thank you Steve for finally bringing the truth. I've been saying this for years. Gaming chairs are styled like racing bucket seats which are originally meant to hold a driver in place, not be super comfortable. Trying to turn that same style into comfortable gaming chairs is like trying to reverse engineer a Ferrari into a minivan instead of just designing something for the intended purpose.
This 100%. Also, racing bucket seats are never made out of leather and have very little padding. It makes no sense to turn them into a comfy chair. They actually managed to make both a shitty computer chair AND a shitty racing seat. Truly a feat to behold.
I've used a Herman Miller Aeron for at least 10 years and couldn't recommend them more. Started using them as the standard chair at my office, then bought my own during the COVID WFH period (I bought from a 2nd hand company the buys as part of office closures). The quality of the materials and the range of adjustments are absolutely superb. Yes these things are expensive, but if you have a desk job like me, you can't put a price on the productivity and wellbeing boost you get from being comfortable all day.
No need to explain it further...Lol Everybody will have different experiences, depends also what size are ur body, I am an Asian...And I definitely found more comfortable to sit on a gaming chair than a little office chair If u still need to look on other people opinions...I can only tell u are poor to even get a gaming chair

As a rocker of the dining room chair myself (my desk is literally in my dining room), get a foam seat cushion off of Amazon. Totally worth it and it props you up an inch.
I work 12 hour shifts and I spend most of those on an Ikea Markus. Over here it's around $135. I cannot recommend it enough, I love it so much I bought a couple for my home as well. I'm sure there are better and fancier chairs, but I couldn't find anything better for that price.
"Check your own dimensions." You see what you've failed to understand, Steve, is that the 4D armrests aren't for mere mortals like us, peasants who only have three dimensions. No. The 4D armrests are for the Ascended, those enlightened with the gift of one extra dimension. Only they can truly comprehend the majesty of the 4D armrest.
Yea I never understood why people buy crap 150 USD chair for like 400-500 USD... But the reality is that it is all marketing, companies just give free chairs to RUclipsrs and Streamers, and people just buy it...
I got a Secretlab Chair after having a cheap Amazon gaming racing chair for a long time. The Secretlab has been perfect for me (One of the only companies to include a smaller model for shorter people). Lumbar support is fantastic, magnetic pillow doesn't have the sag issues like the "seatbelt" pillows do, armrests are CUSHY (even more so after I warranty replaced them when some of the material started cracking on the originals. The model number for the new replacements is V3 versus the V1 on the originals I got, so I know they've been changing and upgrading things). Based on the warranty experience alone that I've had with Secretlab, the high price was well worth it. Also went with softweave over leather/faux leather and it was defintely the right choice. All that being said, when this Secretlab dies on me - and I expect it to last a VERY long time, it's still doing well a year later - I'll probably go with a mesh ergonomic office to save a bit more money and still have a fantastic chair for posture and comfort.
you have the exact same experience as me, only complaint I have about the secretlab is that the armrests have quite a lot of give in the rotation adjustment, but the memory foam armrests are super nice
I had the same experience. Honestly, I love my chair. I got the gel armrests, but that’s only because my room gets hot. The ones it came with were perfectly comfy. I wish they would’ve included secret labs in the testing, because they seem to be higher quality than most gaming chairs
I did my engineering internship with Steelcase in their "task chair" group. I initially thought it was ridiculous that people paid $500-1,000 for Leap, Think, or Amia chairs. Then I started using them daily for hours on end, and I am completely amazed at how comfy they are. I personally sat in an Amia daily, and it was one of the most comfortable chairs I've ever used. I use a $500 Steelcase chair at home and I absolutely love it. I use it every day for several hours since 2011 (so 10+ years old as I type this) and it's still in immaculate shape and still comfy. It truly is worth hundreds of dollars for a decent task chair. I helped write test specs for these chairs and they're beat to shit in testing to simulate 25 years of abuse. Unless you're tossing your chair down stairwells, it will last a long and good life, and support your body well.
I really appreciate y'all having this video spread out over time. One of my biggest concern with consumer products is that they are almost ALL great at first impressions, but it's all a matter of how quickly the quality degrades from there; and people tend to leave reviews for how things are within the first week, so it's hard to tell how well the product actually lasts beyond that.
Funnily enough the most comfortable office chair I've sat in has to be this old leather office chair from the 90s my friend found in our college's furniture warehouse. Felt more like a La-Z-Boy than an actual office chair. Heavenly.
I grabbed an ergochair back when they introduced their original model like 5 years ago. Most expensive chair I've ever got, and also the first office chair I've ever had that lasted more than a year and is still going strong . It really takes a good chair to make you realize just how bad others are.
@@DzinkyDzink Pretty much the only complaint I had about Meshify C is that the materials felt bit cheap... Airflow and cable management feel great though.

Thank you! I am in the process of buying a chair for my teenage son, and haven't been able to find independent reviews on gaming chairs. It was great to watch a review that is not affiliated with Amazon and taking me directly to Amazon to buy a chair that is not exactly what I'm searching for but an alternative which is slightly different. They look flashy and appealing but I don't want to spend money on something that is crap.
Even for teens it isn't worth it. Good posture is like everything else. If you learn cheap when you're young you pay the bill for the rest of your life. Not worth it. Mine gave me massive back issues and tennis elbow.
A little late to this and IDK if anyone will read but please buy the middle-ground chairs (like the Ergochair) from an authorized dealer, not off ebay like I did. I got mine for much cheaper and while it was new, it was shipped with the wrong piston for height adjustment. At 25:59 you can see part of the piston's black base peaking over the wheel frame. Yeah, mine doesn't peak over, it sits flush with the top of the wheel base with just the stainless steel metal popping out. In short, they gave me the wrong-size piston, it's not supposed to sink all the way through like mine. This is a problem because there is literally no height to the thing and it doesn't work with my desk. I had to use a straight pipe wrench to twist the piston out and then a 3 pound rubber mallet to knock the piston out of the base. As a tip, once the piston has been removed from the chair's base (but still stuck in the wheel frame), place the wheel frame on a corner of something sturdy, like two good tables touching or a balcony's corner rails or chest-high concrete. Let gravity do some of the work for you while you hammer that piston and knock it out of the base. You can use a hammer but a rubber mallet will insure you don't destroy the piston. But the reason why I recommend buying from the manufacturer is that this stuff happens and the Ergochair makers do actually have decent warranties and send you replacement parts if something like this happens. Amazon to the rescue for me this time and it was only 25 bucks. Videos that helped: ruclips.net/video/P3_2gv3-00g/видео.html&t= ruclips.net/video/UrmjKG2EHQo/видео.html

Absolutely spot on, especially the Noblechairs Icon. I currently own this and the arm rests are stupidly uncomfortable. I've had it for just over 2 years now and I cannot wait to get rid of it. Currently researching office chairs for an Christmas gift to myself!!
Yesterday I watched this and realized that the neck and upper back tension I have suffered for the past 3 years likely comes from the gaming chair I'm daily sitting in. I've been working from the home office for the past year so it got really bad recently. I researched the entire morning and finally ordered a new office chair for 750$. It has just arrived and I'm literally crying of joy. Thanks for making this video Steve!
Better late than never! As someone who has already had back surgery, your back and posture thanks you for getting a proper chair. What chair did you end up getting!??
This is very valuable info, and I did look at several high-end office chairs before I landed on my "daily drivers." My situation is a bit rare in that I'm a massive individual at 6'8 and 270lbs, so I go to the absolute tallest chairs on offer, like the DXRacer King Series and the SecretLab Titan. If I was a good half-foot shorter, it seems like the ErgoChair would absolutely be the best option for me, with some tweaking. Thank you to Steve and the team for this reasoned and researched info!
This has to be the fastest I've clicked on a video. Rigorous testing of BS gaming chairs? IM SOLD Edit: 3 minutes in and the sarcasm has made it so worth it
The reaction to the herman miller is dead on. I felt exactly the same when I purchased my embody recently. I wish this came out before I bought it. With that said the comfort is clearly noticable over long periods of time and their durability is obvious seeing how well the aerons from liquidators hold up. If you want a great chair that lasts and doesn't hurt you, buy one from a liquidator! Good chairs are made to last and a significant chunk their initial pricing comes from their ease of set up for large companies to not deal with when buying hundreds of them.
@@morbid1. Most companies are letting employees check out monitors and laptops from work to use at home, maybe you could convince them of the productivity benefits of using your office chair at home lol
The Aeron is, hands down, the best chair I have ever sat on. Not only does it offer sustained comfort and lack of fatigue over very long periods of sitting, but also it is insanely durable and maintains resale value forever. There are used Aerons on the market going for $600 today, that are 20+ years old. And they are just as good today, as they were when sold new.
This is the biggest thing that most people don’t consider. You can sit in a Herman Miller or Steelcase chair for 8 hours straight and never experience fatigue/discomfort, meanwhile a cheaper knockoff of these you might start to experience it after a few hours, and garbage chairs you may notice it in under an hour or two. For most people, a cheaper dedicated office chair with a similar design to a HM/Steelcase around the $2-300 price will do solid for years. For a full time job…just bite the bullet and get the more expensive ergonomic options by the leaders..your body will thank you. Also, get some overstock/office close outs for half price versus buying new.
I've worked at my company for 7 years now, and all the Aeron chairs that get daily use are still going strong. Dunno how long we had them prior to me working there, but that says a lot about the quality of the chairs
@@a.andrei5826 when armrest angles (pitch) are not manually adjustable but change their angle synchronized to the seating area in certain ratios with the backrest (mine is 2:1, so for every 20degrees of tilt on my backrest, the armrests tilt back by 10degrees) they call it a synchro mechanism. but i guess 5d rolls off the tongue better so it could be marketed LOL
A great chair doesn’t necessarily give you some instant epiphany. It’s when you realise 10 hours have passed and your back is fine and you can stand up feeling fresh that you realise what an investment in your spine a good chair truly is. I use an Embody for work and a Gesture for home/work.
I bought the blue-cushioned ErgoChair 2 about 4 years ago. I added elbow cushions from Amazon for $5. Best chair I’ve ever gamed in. Extremely comfortable. Looks great. Really good for posture. And still going strong 4 years later.

To be fair, due to differences in food habits and some genetic factors, people of South East Asian and Indian sub-continent heritage would tend to be smaller and lighter than their North American and British counterparts. However they are catching up to the US and UK in heart disease and other obesity-related conditions, as economic prosperity increases and Western food options become more affordable and available.
One of my favorite GN videos! For years i used a metal folding chair that had lost it's back cushion and developed permanent scars on my back that make it look like I've been lashed. My partner lovingly calls them my "world of Warcraft battle scars"
I ended up getting the Aeron soon after I watched this video, and it's been amazing. I can't imagine going through the hassle of having to replace a gaming chair, after it inevitably fails.
I bought myself a DX Racer after my daughter told me how much she loved the one I bought her for her birthday. I now wish I had used a different criterium for choosing my current gaming "throne".
in my opinion DX Racer is far better than other gaming chairs. Mine doesn't restrict the shoulder at all, the armrests are soft, and they don't wear out that fast. Have mine for 3 years now and its comfortable like on day 1. I guess DX Racer isn't one of those copy paste companies.
@@marle96 My dxracer, a premium version with apparently better covering is pretty much dead after 2 years. The arm rests have big cracks, the fake leather has totally disintegrated on the seat and is generally just falling apart. It IS comfortable though, just shit quality, especially for the price.
I saw Steve speaking Mandarin during a visit to Shenzhen. It’s great to see his engagement and respect regarding this important language. After all, China is the center of the tech world.
My "gaming chair" is a mesh head rest, mesh back rest and mesh seat, (for airflow, softness and cooler temperature contact point) with swivel and wheels, with adjustable height for head rest, back rest, and arm rest is also adjustable height and forward and backward, rotatable as well, and also adjustable lumbar support behind the back rest. It has everything i need for a comfy chair and it costs USD110. I used it for gaming, for movie, for work, for everything. i only have 1 chair. all the gaming chairs look so uncomfortable. i don't understand why you want to pay so much money for an uncomfy chair. my chair still lasts 3 years going now. the mesh are still strong and nothing's broken nor stopped working. i expect to use it for another 2 years. there's literally no reason to change it due to functionality. and yes, like the video conclusion said, if you do not exercise, stretch the correct muscles, have good posture when sitting or standing, it affects your comfort level when you are sitting on your chair as well. Only constant exercising and stretching your neck, your back can then allows you to slouch longer / have bad but comfy resting postures.
@@SuperScyth The one i have is M16. As dangerous as it sounds, its actually pretty harmless =P At the time of buying (which i realized was in Dec 2017), the chair was named as : "M16 Iden Ventilated Office Chair (Black)" bought for SGD 189. However I did find M57 chair (a more pricer version) to look exactly like M16, but with mesh seat. it has the exact same design as M16. I believed they have rebranded the M16 mesh to be M57. there is a website sihoo dot com dot au where you can find the product "SIHOO M16 Ergonomics Office Chair". I own the autonomous ergo chair for home and just recently purchased a cheap $100 chair at Costco for the office and I can say that I'm genuinely impressed with that Costco chair, it has mesh bottom and back and 100% reccomend it.
Was going to change from an office to gaming chair, as mine is starting to fall apart, never thought it was this bad, thanks for the insight. Guess I’ll try the mesh ones.
Buy a chair local. I needed a cheap chair and bought a $40 dollar chair on Amazon. Absolutely terrible... Thought it was going to break under my 150lb weight. Sent it back and paid $200 for a chair. It's the exact same shitily built manufacturing. After really going through the listings on Amazon I think 90% of the mesh chairs on Amazon are the same as these gaming chairs. Manufactured the same way and depending on the seller the chairs get whatever price they feel like listing it as.
Egh this whole review omits a bunch while focusing on other attributes painting them as effecting one category when it's stuff that affects both. Keep in mind these are people with chairs that cost more than $1,000.00. These people are not everyday you and me. @@smithj0308 You're literally the only person to point this out. I'm on my like 4th chair now they're all so fucking uncomfortable with these shitty cushions.
After some research I did, I've got myself a Herman Miller Embody chair, around 7-8 years ago. Since then this is my favorite place to sit on! No back pain, no numb ass, very comfy and it still looks and feels like a new one. Worth the price!
I bought a Herman Miller chair in 2016, love it, best chair I've ever owned but now it needs warranty work. I've contacted them and am waiting to hear what they are going to do. I'm easy on everything I own including shoes, but apparently I'm super hard on PC chairs....a regular Office Depot chair won't last me more than 3 or 4 years, had them just fall apart and end up on the floor. Wish me luck!
Herman Miller Aeron = GOAT. Used to get so much back pain working from home + gaming, that doesn't happen anymore. Bought a used one for £300, cheaper than most gaming chairs and after nearly three years of use it's still in great condition, despite buying it used.
Those manufacturers could just take a hint from car seat manufacturers, a lot of top-tier leather car seats actually have mesh seats and backs just for ventilation.
I sat in one and loved it for 4 hours. Towards the end I hated it. Sat in a cheapo mesh office chair for 6 hours and felt great. Yeah. Screw gaming chairs. But they look so cool
I actually don't mind my Secretlab chair, and its been more durable than the last three office chairs I owned... The most long lasting and best office chair I had came with my desk circa 2008 and only broke itself in 2014 so It lasted me 6 years. "Tony" was great, The second chair lasted 6 months, the 3rd chair an Identical copy of the 2nd lasted 3 years, Then The next chair was a hand me down from the wife which she had had for 2 years when I got it and it lasted me a year, so 4 office chairs in 11 years, and now the Secret lab which I have had for just over 1 year with no issues and comfortably sit in it for 37.5 hours a week at my work from home position.
I dont like my secret lab leather chair. its hard and unformfortable with long periods.. i did sit in my gfs secret lab cloth chair. The smaller model. Its way better.
I have some like that and they're amazing. Super smooth because of the material when they're locked they don't move at all. Really good when using some sort of controller that is mounted on the table.
I bought some that look like rollerblade wheels and added them to my conference room chair I salvaged from my employer when we closed our office due to COVID. They are super silent and wont damage the bamboo my floors, so I don't need a stupid chair mat. If you want a cheap upgrade for your chair, I can't recommend the upgraded casters enough. John Wick, they need hard chairs to defend your bullets. Keep those pencils away as well. On top of that they can simulate Neo going into the matrix, since those chairs can bend 180 degrees.
The best advice for buying a chair is to go to a store and find one that fits you and that you are comfortable in. I got a gaming chair at an office furniture store solely because it supported my posture for my computer use. The office chairs made for high capacity use were uncomfortable. The arm rests didn't go low enough, nor did the seat go low enough for me to reach the ground.
So here is a new trend.. Step aside "Gaming Chairs" we have "Gaming Desks" which seem to be jazzed up regular desks at inflated prices, same thing all over again.

Air force chairs are the best in the world, they've been specifically designed for the primary occupation of the airforce.

Nope. You're not alone, and you are correct. Aside from mice and high hz monitors i cant think of any "gaming" product id waste my money on. (And even then, theres a lot of low quality gaming mice floating around)
Gaming keyboards? Mediocre and expensive, a few in corsairs lineup are the only "good" ones i know of, but more expensive than better keyboards. Whereas a non-gaming branded keyboard like Ducky, Das and PFU are excellent quality for a modest price
Gaming headsets? Same shit. Cant think of a good one that isnt in excess of ~$350-$400 and even those ones are lackluster compared to studio headphones made by proper audio companies for $200
At the end of the day its unreasonable to expect a company that sells everything from headphones to chairs and gaming desks to be as good as a company that specialises in one specific product

Same bro lmao £1500 and I’m on a wood chair. Shit sucks
It’s why I’m here!!! 😭😭
honestly if it didnt make my ass hurt id be using one now.
I ended up getting the Aeron soon after I watched this video, and it's been amazing.
I can't imagine going through the hassle of having to replace a gaming chair, after it inevitably fails.
@@s7r49 Have you tuned it for your body?
I bought myself a DX Racer after my daughter told me how much she loved the one I bought her for her birthday. I now wish I had used a different criterium for choosing my current gaming "throne".
That's good that she likes hers, though!
Umm why would you take your kid's advice? Should be the other way around lol
in my opinion DX Racer is far better than other gaming chairs. Mine doesn't restrict the shoulder at all, the armrests are soft, and they don't wear out that fast. Have mine for 3 years now and its comfortable like on day 1. I guess DX Racer isn't one of those copy paste companies.
@@marle96 I got the Valkyrie series, since I’m not big I fit perfectly in it but I still would prefer a office chair over gaming chair.
@@marle96 My dxracer, a premium version with apparently better covering is pretty much dead after 2 years. The arm rests have big cracks, the fake leather has totally disintegrated on the seat and is generally just falling apart. It IS comfortable though, just shit quality, especially for the price.
I’m sitting on a wooden chair with a blanket as the cushion. Any thing for me is an upgrade
😆
Mine was a 90 degree wooden chair, with 1cm of cushion, I preferred standing up
Iv bought a fifty dollar chair from Amazon since then but the only game I could stand up on I play is for honor, my desk is kinda low for standing
that is prob better than a gaming chair lol
I upgraded to a pillow instead of a blanket
As a Mandarin speaker, I have to take a moment and appreciate how well Steve pronounced Zhejiang
@5:32? I thought it was just some random YT codec error
Yeah but his english is left wanting 😁jk
Only constant exercising and stretching your neck, your back can then allows you to slouch longer / have bad but comfy resting postures.
what is the model and brand of this chair you have?
@@SuperScyth The one i have is M16. As dangerous as it sounds, its actually pretty harmless =P
At the time of buying (which i realized was in Dec 2017), the chair was named as :
"M16 Iden Ventilated Office Chair (Black)"
bought for SGD 189.
Seller website : Take A Seat dot sg
that "Iden" word was used in the past, and is no longer part of the branding name in searches today, and in local sg online stores.
google searches for the words "M16 chair" today, will find the new M16 chairs shown with padded seats only (the headrest and back are still mesh).
However I did find M57 chair (a more pricer version) to look exactly like M16, but with mesh seat. it has the exact same design as M16. I believed they have rebranded the M16 mesh to be M57.
there is a website
sihoo
dot
com
dot
au
where you can find the product "SIHOO M16 Ergonomics Office Chair".
Scroll down and you can actually see a table that says the "Seat pan" is Mesh version. Crazy price though. also not sure why the armrest is mentioned as fixed sold by this store. My M16 armrest could push the top portion forward & back, up & down, and rotate too.

The 2 month wait on my Ergochair 2 has been validated!
wow it took two months. I ordered mine bf and I got it in two weeks
@@johngonzalez7052 That's great! I was accused of shilling for Autonomous when I said that on their Facebook page because others had waited longer. Things have improved I guess
@@jesso2k6 probably because autonomous is known pretty well for shilling/astroturfing their chairs
Ergochair 2 is apparently very overrated. Bad build quality and the design of the seat is HORRIBLE if you're taller than average since it kills the bloodflow in your legs. Check out some of the reviews that aren't full of shilling to get a better picture.
@@thedamntrain3467 well I have one so I don't actually need someone to tell me if I'm comfortable or if it's better than my Ikea Markus, I have my butt for that. The original comment about needing Patrick's validation was a joke.

@@GamersNexus That's what they always say
I own the autonomous ergo chair for home and just recently purchased a cheap $100 chair at Costco for the office and I can say that I'm genuinely impressed with that Costco chair, it has mesh bottom and back and 100% reccomend it.
Me waiting for the noise normalized thermal tests
That one chair was really squeaky
That sounds like a fart joke.
Gaming chairs are about 61C
Office chairs are 31C or less cuz watercooled cushions
Before or after Taco Bell?
I recommend a chair with a mesh bottom.
A decent, well researched gaming chair will serve you for years to come and be very comfortable.
You can get a remanufactured Herman Miller or Steelcase for less than a full priced gaming chair.
@@smithj0308 You're literally the only person to point this out. I'm on my like 4th chair now they're all so fucking uncomfortable with these shitty cushions.
I have a office chair
It's very good but I wish chairs these days have seat coolers
After some research I did, I've got myself a Herman Miller Embody chair, around 7-8 years ago. Since then this is my favorite place to sit on! No back pain, no numb ass, very comfy and it still looks and feels like a new one. Worth the price!
I used to have one at work and I miss that chair everyday…best chair I have ever used hands down
I bought a Herman Miller chair in 2016, love it, best chair I've ever owned but now it needs warranty work.
@@UltraReefReseller it's fortunate you got Herman Miller then, as your warranty lasts till 2028.

Herman Miller Aeron = GOAT. Used to get so much back pain working from home + gaming, that doesn't happen anymore. Bought a used one for £300, cheaper than most gaming chairs and after nearly three years of use it's still in great condition, despite buying it used.
"Sitting in a dining room chair..." Me who has been using the same dining room chair for two years....
Same goes for me :)

Im just about to buy a new chair and Im sitting on a dining room chair right now and I have to say Its literally pain in the ass...
They might want to rebrand these $250-350 mesh chairs as "high airflow" and double the price for gamers.
Add rechargeable rgb fans and ur gold!
Those manufacturers could just take a hint from car seat manufacturers, a lot of top-tier leather car seats actually have mesh seats and backs just for ventilation.
The way he instantly sat in the gaming chair and said "Yeah Fuck this chair" got me dead
I sat in one and loved it for 4 hours. Towards the end I hated it. Sat in a cheapo mesh office chair for 6 hours and felt great. Yeah. Screw gaming chairs. But they look so cool
The way I like the chair he hates tho
I love how high end chair wheels are rollerblade wheels.
They said they were aftermarket wheels
I have some like that and they're amazing. Super smooth because of the material when they're locked they don't move at all. Really good when using some sort of controller that is mounted on the table.
I have very expensive roller product bags for work. They have rollerblade wheels and they're fantastic.
Yeah roller blade wheels are nice..... you know there is no reason to re invent the wheel..... I will see my self out
I bought some that look like rollerblade wheels and added them to my conference room chair I salvaged from my employer when we closed our office due to COVID.
They are super silent and wont damage the bamboo my floors, so I don't need a stupid chair mat. If you want a cheap upgrade for your chair, I can't recommend the upgraded casters enough.
I bought these, this is a non-affiate link. I don't have any interest in them, other than being a satisfied user.

Every time I go to a friend’s house and saw that they had a racing chair, I would give them the corny, yet humor “how fast are you trying to go?”
Love your movies man!
