    Just came across your video and I do appreciate your explanation. Yesterday I did my last Spellbinders order for 2023, bcz I intend to use my products and quit accumulating stuff that goes unused. So knowing I can betterpress with my foil plates is even better to get more out of my products.

    I recently received my BetterPress in the mail. I will not try to use my glimmer plates in the system but I will try foiling the BetterPress plates. Nancy Stamps put a piece of sticky grid paper on her BetterPress to hold her paper. I thought that was a great idea and I am doing that with mine.

    • @ChrisAndCats
      @ChrisAndCats Год назад +3

      The sticky grid surely would be the same as the very slight thickness difference with the foil plates? So if you remove the shims it should balance out? I'll have to put them side by side. Betterpress with shims and foil plate alongside and compare.

  • @nancern53
    @nancern53 Год назад +6

    This was the question i had! Thank you so much for showing this!!! It makes sense that you could use them if the only reason was that the foiling plates are slightly thicker . Just remove some of the shims…🤷‍♀️

      This was my thought too. Those shims that are under the magnetic base, the company has already said that those would be removed when they come out with even thicker Betterpress paper 💡😮 Wouldn’t that also mean you could use a hot foil plate by removing 1 or more of the shims!!!
      Here’s another idea, I’m also a jewelry maker and so I have a bead caliper. So measure the thickness of the Betterpress plate and Hot Foil Plate and adjust accordingly 😊

    • @therockymountaincrafter
      @therockymountaincrafter  11 месяцев назад +2

      I had no idea, thank you for sharing that. The catch 22 for Spellbinders is if they keep insisting that glimmer plates should not go in the BetterPress when it is clearly OK they will start to lose the trust of their customers, so I think they have caught on to that now and are admitting that Glimmer Plates can be used and keep their customers. I get that they tried that so that we would think only BetterPress plates worked so we would have to buy BetterPress plates and they would make boat loads of money but that's just not true and therefore they will make less money but it would be a whole lot less if they were not completely transparent with what does and doesn't work and started to lose customers. Integrity is everything when running a business.

    Thank you for showing this . I would love this better press However, not sure that I can justify the cost . I could do the machine bit it’s the whole new set of inks and and the plates to get a perfect finish rather than faffing around as I have to do with the Glimmer foiling machine

    • @therockymountaincrafter

      The ink price is decent and worth it in my opinion but the cost of new plates when some of us crafters already have loads of hot foil plates that seem to work with the BetterPress, I really felt that needed to be addressed. Now others can decide if the BetterPress will be a good investment. I'm glad you found the video helpful.

    Thank you for trying products that might damage your better plate. I thought about it. I checked the price of the plate $15.99 isn't that bad. I really love my better press. I had issues with the tape rolled on the back side. It tore the paper. Using the Halloween spider die, its bigger than the paper it will cut into the plastic plate with the shims. Thanks again for the share.

    I think it is important to note that every individual machine needs to be tested because the pressure is different. I believe that everyone who has mentioned that the plates are not interchangeable mentions that it could void your warranty. Also spellbinders doesn’t have the only plates that will work in the better press. There will be another maker coming out with press plates in 2024 so you will have a choice on who you buy from. But it was good to see that it is possible to use the foil plates with the better press

    Thank you for checking this out. I, too, figured they were probably just covering liability bases by saying you "can't" use foil plates with the Betterpress system. And of course, wanting to sell more of their own plates. I have tons of foil plates, and I think it would be silly not to use them with the Betterpress, now that I know its possible. I'll take the risk, and just be careful. Also, I have a bunch of Letterpress paper that I got on clearance a long time ago when the Letterpress was going out of fashion. I figure it will be great to use for Betterpress, because it's cotton and very thick.

      I thought you might like to know one of the comments I got on this video recently said they noticed Spellbinders Glimmer Plate of the Month club says Gimmer/Betterpress on it. Good to see that Spellbinders is now admitting and allowing (should any damage be done) glimmer/foil plates to be used with Betterpress. And lucky you with that paper. That's a great buy!

    I got marks on my platen using the system exactly as instructed. I think my Platinum 6 has a tighter set of rollers than some of the bloggers I've seen using the system. In their videos, they show that it's completely smooth on the back of the panel (in fact, in one of the videos, the person didn't like the first impression so they turned it over and inked it again). So far, none of mine are clean enough on the back to try inking again. I've used both with 3 & 2 shims. I'm going to try with fewer shims & see if it gives enough pressure for a good impression on the front without making an impression on the back. I think there's some variation of how tight each machine's rollers are that will determine whether you need more or less shims. The good news is that if you damage either the platen or the magnetic pad, you can buy replacements. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    With a full plate image, put a bit of tape behind your card panel to hold it in place on the platen. Oops, saw you did that later. But I’m wondering why you are using the extra shim. My Big Shot is old and more loose and I did NOT need an extra shim. Everyone comments that you don’t feel much resistance, and I didn’t, but got great results. I also don’t have that shadowing you showed. Maybe it’s because you're using an extra shim?

    • @therockymountaincrafter
      @therockymountaincrafter  Год назад +1

      I did that later in the video, there is the potential to damage your image that way because the tape acts as a shim and the plate can get impressed to deep into the paper essentially cutting through. When I didn't use a shim, the image was not impressed at all, it just looked stamped. Different brands and styles of die cutting machines will have different pressures. I recommend to do what works best for your particular model.

    I came directly from Jennifer McGuire’s video to check if someone tried it anyways. I don’t have either system but I’d love to have both. I find it increases in value if you can use the plates for both. Thanks for trying and for your informative video. I’ll check out your other stuff. I wonder, can you ink up your foil plates and use them without the letter press system? Like maybe just regular dye cutting machine. Would that work? I imagine it wouldn’t give quite so much detailed impression?

    • @griml89
