As another new RUclipsr I always like to show my mistakes. I think it helps to show that like everyone else we make mistakes, plus I know I like seeing how to fix issues so why wouldn't my viewers? I appreciate you making this video because like you I probably would have made the same mistake. It'd just as important knowing what not to do.
So glad you figured it out. In the heat of the moment all we're thinking is why isn't this working. And getting more frustrated all the time. On screen your sentiments don't look too bad. I'd die cut them and see what is usable. Thank you for sharing
Please, PLEASE do NOT beat yourself up! I had NO CLUE that the tape would do that either! I'm so glad you figured this out and saved the rest of us from this frustration! Thank you!
I used the yellow tape once and it ripped the card when I tried to remove the tape. I now use some low tack purple tape I bought from my local hardware store. It works perfectly, but I tape the corners of the card, I don't use it under the card. Good video of what NOT to do! Thank you🙂
I haven’t bought my Betterpress system yet, but I probably would’ve made the same mistake! You saved me some paper and I appreciate it, seeing how pricey it is. The princess and the pea is a perfect analogy. Thank you!!!
Like others have said, please don’t be so hard on yourself, we all have problems or make mistakes. I like you have a tendency to be hard on myself but we are all in this together. Showing your videos with the problems helps many other people. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!!!!!
You just described my experience with foiling. Everyone else can do it, perfectly no less, and not because they chose to use a machine (as there are other ways to foil). In my case, I tried for more than 8 hours one day to try to foil. The laserprinted image held only speckles of foil, and that was after going through the laminator over a dozen times (the speckles were a victory; usually absolutely no foil whatsoever adhered to the paper). I changed every possible variable… paper, laminator, foil brands, the image, the printer… resolving to NOT buy a machine if I couldn’t get at least some sort of result without one. Unlike you and this letterpress thing, the foiling still doesn’t work for me, so I tossed it all and haven’t made cards in over a year. When the thought no longer infuriates me, I’ll consider returning to what had been a much-loved hobby.
I totally understand with the foiling! I was so frustrated too! My results are still inconsistent at times! I hope you get back I to cardmaking though!❤
I discovered that I can successfully foil using plain ol' glue and double-sided tape. Haha! I foil the way we'd use gilding flakes and am happy with at least that. Keep the faith!
Two things, I watched another RUclipsr and he did do the tape like you, but he didn’t use such big pieces, he used to tiny pieces on each end. He also rubbed the tape on the back of his hand before putting it on to make it less sticky. I don’t know if you would want to try it that way again, nor if that would make a difference or not. But thank you for being brave and posting your mistake. I’m sure it will help others. Glad you got it figured out.
I give you lots of credit for sharing your difficulty with this machine. Many crafters would not do this. It just shows that even seasoned makers are not perfect. ❤❤
I think it is very generous of you to share this. I am sure you are not the only one - and you will have saved me from falling into that trap whenever I do succumb to the charms of the Betterpress. It is so helpful to see how mistakes can be avoided and that others sometimes struggle, too. Thank you and kind regards from Germany, Nicola
Yes, it's similar to having a fold in one of the shims. Glad you figured it out! If the yellow tape keeps tearing your paper, try sticking the tape to your shirt first to "fuzz it up" a bit before adding it to your papers.
The yellow tape is garbage for taping anywhere important. I found that out stencilling. I like the desticking idea below. Thanks sharing your journey! So appreciate your transparency and honesty!
That was fun…I played along as I just got my BP and I know how easy it s! Saw that yellow tape and figured that was the problem. But watched to end to see when your light bulb would turn on! You were a really good sport about it! FYI, I use a little roller adhesive on the back top corners….works well and no bulk.
My Betterpress is "in the mail" [from SMS]. Soaking up all the videos I can before it arrives! So good to see a "blooper" reel . . . mistakes can teach.
I think it is because you have 3 masters that it took you so long to figure it out. You were looking for something technical. Had it been me I would have probably moved the die to a different spot on the plate and then maybe I would have realized what was making the impression bad. Glad you figured it out for all of us.
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have the Betterpress system but haven’t had time to do anything with it!! I am so glad you shared these issues so I can hopefully avoid them!! ❤❤
Thanks for sharing. I just got my Betterpress for Christmas and although I hadn’t tried putting tape on the back, I now know (thanks to you) to not do that!😆 Also, I agree, the yellow tape is terrible. I thought it was just the cardstock I was using, but it even tears the “fancier” paper a little, too. I noticed on another creators video that they chose not to use the tape…now I know why!
Thank you for sharing! It begs the question why the others aren't having the same issue? I've seen them do it myself, and their stuff turns out beautifully.
I’ve had the same question. When it first came out I saw other people using tape on the back and theirs came out ok. But, I’ve learned it doesn’t work for me for whatever reason! Maybe the thickness of the tape?
Great video. I always appreciate knowing what NOT to do videos. I did figure out it was the tape, however, I may not have realized it and would have done the same thing had I not seen this video. 😊 I got the better press system for Christmas but haven’t had the chance to play with it yet, but tomorrow is my day😊😊😊. So I truly appreciate your video!. ❤
Call me lazy, but I am also not a huge fan of having to tape the corners of the paper to the platen. I found that a small amount of repositionable tape runner in the corner of the paper holds it in position nicely. It must be repositionable or it will not come off the magnetic plate well.
Thank you so much for sharing this - I saw the one You Tube where she put the tape on the back - not the corners; so I would of not guessed that it was tape placement either. Especially after viewing You Tube Videos where they did put the tape on the back of the card and not the corners and still had success.🥰
Yes! That’s part of the reason it took me so long to figure out! Other people on RUclips did it, so I didn’t think anything of it! Glad it’s helpful info!❤
thank you publishing this video...I too saw other youtubers put tape on the back with no isuue...so I would have made the same mistake. This was very helpful.
Recollections repositional glue runner works great for holding paper in place without adding any bulk in back. It holds great, the paper releases with ease and the glue just rolls off with your finger when you're done
Thank you for sharing your experience…I have yet to try out mine, but it helps to know what works and what doesn’t. I’ve had tape issues from some that are supposed to be awesome because it doesn’t tear the paper…not…

Great video and i agree with you…that yellow tape is awful. I just put it at the very edge top and bottom so it does not tear the paper. I thought it was the next best thing in tapes but nope!
To be fair, the best ever craft tape was designed to work with smooth cardstock. Cotton rag is very different. As an artist I work with this kind of cotton paper all the time and I've just learned to be more careful when peeling off tape. Even if the tape pulls away some fibers, as long as you do it very slowly it won't be very noticeable.
That's odd. Spellbinders are selling high quality cotton rag from Europe that professional printmakers use. Is it possible the paper that works better for you is thinner? Maybe you had too much pressure with the thick cotton paper.
That's funny that you say no one has been having trouble with the yellow tape and the better Press paper bcuz every single YT crafter I watch has torn that paper and says to be careful with the yellow tape and other tapes. 😂 the second I saw the doubled up tape, I said that's causing the extra pressure and I have zero master degrees. Don't feel bad, I find this happens often unless there's an understanding how the tiniest bit of extra material affects the pressure in any activit. I play around with it lots. As a matter of fact, when you want regular dies to foil a thicker line, add tape or a piece of a plastic bag to the sandwich under the entire design. Just the kind of mistake I would make 😂 just some days we are slower on the uptake processing is all. Probably bc our brain is is so busy in creative process at the moment
I haven't finished the video, but I'm going to assume it's because you put the tape on the back which is adding pressure to that specific part of the paper. Edit to add: The extra pressure is what is causing the tape to rip your paper as well. A lot of low tack tapes REALLY sticky when put through a die cut machine because of the pressure.
wow I actually found someone else who buys from Stacy Parks otherwise known as scrapbooking made simple. I have been watching her for about 5 years and you are the first person I have come across who actually buys and makes videos using her products.

You’re totally right!❤
I did not figure it out. Lol Good video.
😂😂😂 glad you enjoyed it!
Maybe it’s the way you have the tape bunched up on the back
Yup that’s what it was! 🤣
Good info
Glad you found it helpful!
the red cube ink is hero arts
Thanks!
It is the tape placement
Yup! Took me so long to figure it out!😂
wow I actually found someone else who buys from Stacy Parks otherwise known as scrapbooking made simple. I have been watching her for about 5 years and you are the first person I have come across who actually buys and makes videos using her products.
I have been watching SMS for years. I just heard my name a couple weeks ago for "winner winner chicken dinner".
@@susan3744 congratulations
@@pattyfromherz9965 my husband could not believe that I was so excited about winning $25 especially in light of how much I spend
@@susan3744😂😂😂
Yes! I only discovered her because of the betterpress, actually! I came across one of her videos on it!
It's obvious---the tape on the back of paper gives a deeper impression.
