If you honestly listen to this and say Alice isn't the same, and mean it in a bad way then you are mental. No, they aren't nor will they ever be the same but this shit is fucking on point, and everything the band has done with William is so fucking amazing!
This live version just crushes. Mike Inez has such a colossal tone too. I agree about William. He's a natural fit for Alice without ever trying to be Layne. As if anyone ever could.
Dropping this as the first post Layne song was so awesome, greatly exceeded my expectations. Shit is awesome, was so crazy to hear new AIV and they knocked it out of the park
Agree. I loved Layne and his iconic voice was unmistakable but this version of AiC with Duvall is great! The last 2 records were awesome and I love the versatility Duvall's guitar brings to live performances. Duvall also is a great vocalist and compliments Cantrell with great harmonies. The latest I have heard was just yesterday, JC said they are going to the studio in Seattle to write the next record which should be out later this year and it will be what we've come to expect. If it ain't broke....
I don't know if it's top 5, top 10 or 15... AIC have so much awesome tracks that it's hard to rank. One thing's for sure and here I concur with you: This song is a good example of AIC at their best.
@@Tbizzz42 all secrets known is literally the most perfect track they ever could’ve possibly created to be the opening track of their first album without Layne. Not sure there is a more perfect and fitting album opener than that. Jerry is a genius
@@SuperRoo_22 I wouldn't say the heaviest for sure... but it's up there with beasties such as Grind, Sludge Factory, Dam That River, Hate To Feel, We Die Young or Phantom Limb.
Jonathan Burton I can think of one band and one band only that does more, and that's because Eddie writes a new set-list every night about five minutes before curtain time.
I respect alice in chains thoroughly for changing their sound over the years without selling out. Black gives way to blue is a badass album. Granted, it isn't facelift. Those are 2 different record but are both good in their own ways. You see many bands either selling out and sounding awful or sticking to the same sound for 10 albums. Even if you don't like new alice that's fine but don't bash them for being innovative and experimental with their own sound.
LayneCobain88 I agree. AIC has always changed their sound but it's always been good :) Look how different Jar of Flies was compared to Dirt.. JOF was more of a jazz vibe and Facelift is a whole different album with more of a punk/thrash vibe to it. All excellent stuff. I didn't like "Dinosaurs" at first but it's REALLY grown on me lately.
Existential Outrage he’s right. This was released before Check My Brain via their website and all before check my Brain was later the radio single pick
Facts hearing this as the first post Layne song when it released blew me away. Made me so much for confident this album would deliver and it totally did, black gives way to blue is so good
I wish I grew up in Seattle in the 70s and 80s and was already 22 by the time 1990 came around. I would've loved to meet and know Andy. RIP Andy. We love you. And here's to Stone and Jeff staying alive and spreading that Mother Love Bone Joy!
He's not just "cool"... he's on hell of a singer. I also agree that Layne was better but that only strengthens how much of an unique voice specimen Layne was.
I still hold to my opinion that black gives way to blue is their best album since Dirt. Tripod was good, but most of the album was a little too esoteric and Jar of Flies is technically an EP, not an album. It was good too, but it too had its bizarre moments. Black Gives Way to Blue is top notch.
not even comparable wtf hell duvall is great ... these last two albums are pure alice in chains gold. Cantrell is chains ...along with sean and the great mike inez. Would I rather Layne be here? Yes, but he passed 13 years ago. His spirit lives on through alice.
yea chester sucks....why they did not get back with richard patrick and ray luzier and put out another Army of Anyone record idk...that first one is brilliant. Weiland will be back soon.
this one, Check My Brain, Your Decision, Acid Bubble, Last Of My Kind, Take Her Out, Hollow, Pretty Done, TDPDH, Phantom Limb, The One You Know, Ranier Fog, Red Giant, Maybe, Deaf Hears Blind Eyes... Ah wait... these aren't good songs: They're AWESOME!
Carlos Jantarada great list, I think basically every song they have is good old and new, they’re still killin it and I’ve really enjoyed all 3 albums with will, he’s a great singer and his guitar was a nice addition. I hope we can get a shorter break between rainier fog and the next album they release, I just love when they drop new music. Long live AiC. Jerry Cantrell is a god
The best part is 0:00-7:27

Shame Devil couldn't live up this =/
***** Your Decision is ok. You missed Acid Bubble from your list. Best song on the album if you ask me
Sam Dathi I didn't really like Acid Bubble for the same reason that I didn't like the title track from Dirt. Too trippy.
+Ben Cross devil is a great album, choke, tdpdh, hollow, phantom limb, lab monkey and scalpel and stone are great so idk what you mean.
"Rain When I Die" got married and had a son, and this is that son. What a Dirt-like jam. So friggin good.
This live version just crushes. Mike Inez has such a colossal tone too. I agree about William. He's a natural fit for Alice without ever trying to be Layne. As if anyone ever could.
I love jerry but this performance goes to mike Inez, holy shit what a growl on that bass, sick
That NS-2 has some serious teeth!
One of the best AIC songs of all time
It's been a lifetime since Black Gives Way To Blue was released and it still has this absolutely modern sound, it's crazy
Major props to William Duvall, he isnt trying to copy Layne (Layne can never be replaced), instead hes adding his own unique style to the band
this is such a classic, sludge-metal AiC song. massive riff, awesome solo, rhythm section is so tight ... beautiful music.
Dropping this as the first post Layne song was so awesome, greatly exceeded my expectations. Shit is awesome, was so crazy to hear new AIV and they knocked it out of the park
Huge fan of AIC since day one. You know what ? This is in their top 10 songs ever of all time. Bravo. Bring more like this on the next album in 2017.

Duvall in the song. Chilling how good he his
Not as good as Layne IMO ... but one hell of a voice and one hell of great choice to fill his shoes. Long live new AIC.
@@carlosjantarada7212 sounds almost as good as Lane
doesn’t even come close.
Alice in chains are evolved ! so powerfull
The ending solo and out of this live version is kickass.
Gritty, Haunting, Sludgy...Inezs' Bass and Cantrells' Guitar are POSSESSED!!!
BEST. Live. Version. "."
top 3 alice song all time
I wouldn't go that far... but it is among their best. This is an haunting heavy bastard as only AIC can create.
@@carlosjantarada7212 Is it AIC's heaviest song they have written?

@@SuperRoo_22 I would say it is, so heavy
I agree, great song.
This band does more of their songs live than any other band i have seen. Most bands only do a select few from certain albums all the time.
Jonathan Burton I can think of one band and one band only that does more, and that's because Eddie writes a new set-list every night about five minutes before curtain time.
huh... k then
I'm talking about pearl
He said “Eddie” you should immediately have understood he meant Vedder
@@SexistAlexistv I mean when you have a far more legendary and influential rockstar in Eddie Van Halen a lot of people are gonna think of him first.

This song sounds more like the songs off Dirt than Facelift. Heavy like Rain When I Die and Junkhead.
Alice in Chains is one of the great rock/metal bands of all time.
They couldn't of picked a better song to come out as the first song without Layne. William's fucking great
this wasnt the first song it was Check my brain
Sorry but this was the first song released, not a single but the first song (new material not a b side) released by the band since 1995.
Existential Outrage he’s right. This was released before Check My Brain via their website and all before check my Brain was later the radio single pick

This song is plain wicked!

LMAO 😂
Duvall is a beast!
I like how at 2:33 everyone but Jerry raises their hands.
How fucking awesome.. I love this song.. now on to Phantom limb.. We are so lucky to have these guys around still xD..
After hearing these guys when I was much younger in the early 90's, I'm amazed this genius song was still in them.
Jerry is one of the best songwriters ever, a ton of genius will always be in him.
Such an amazing song and performance, they’re still such a great band and will is a great addition
Mike Inez knows how to make a Spector Snarl. Damn that's one heavy tone!!

God damn the bass and guitar are fuckin crunchy as fuck
