If you have any leftover scales when you finish the dress, you could always make plain totebags and sew the scales on them to make dragon tote bags and then give them away to your patrons! 🥰
@@gollygaloshes Great idea, but I picture her knees giving out from the weight while wearing both the dress and the cape. Poor thing will snap like a dry twig!
This! Making a cape is the perfect addition to such a complicated dress. You can pick your favourite scales and sew the dress exactly as you like. All the other scales can be used in the cape and be worn to elevate the dress, but you can also take it off or drape it next to you in photos, when all the fabric and beads become too heavy. A cape can be as short or long as the surplus scales allow for... plus you have much more flexibility to incorporate the unique scales that do not easily fit in the gradient, as the design will be totally your own.
Also accessories bag! (To keep a little sewing kit & extra scales for emergency repair) This amount of scales indicates perhaps under garments can be included in the creation & maybe a hat, hood, cowl & scarf?
The internet has two modes of existence, ignoring your existence or bombarding you with more attention than you had ever wanted. Congrats on getting all of the scales and best of luck with the dress.
I'm voting for a cape too, focus on making a dress that makes sense, and use the rest for something complementary! Maybe even keeping close to the original colors for the dress, and use the rest of the colors for the cape.
Those scales are amazing and some of them are absolute works of art. But we rare talk about the tedious part of making art, and I love how this video was basically three days of a color-sorting pre-school activity, complete with rolling around on the floor crying and ending with a nap. Art is a journey and it takes us through all the stages of life.
How about a "wearable" interpretation of the dress with the leftovers ?Something simpler, lighter, like a short tube dress for example, ... but with amazing scales ;) I can totally picture you rocking the look at parties 💥
you are welcome AND/OR I am sorry?! 😅 no, I am really happy and thankful that you gave us the opportunity to participate in this amazing project, and get a little creative ourselves! And there are so many amazing, inspiring techniques, materials and ideas for scales!
I started giggling because of the face you made when showing the first box of scales… and laughed out loud when you reached for the second and the third one 😂 Always be careful what you wish for. Edit: If there are too many scales (which is quite obvious), the Marquis might be interested in a very fancy scale armour 🤔
Just know you are well loved by your fans. They certainly saved you weeks of sewing on beads and embroidery! It’s amazing. 15,000 and no two alike! Truly a labor of love from your fans to you. You must have touched their hearts in many ways.
I knew it was going to be an insane amount of scales. I watch Mariah Elizabeth & years ago she was like “oh yeah you can send your old squishmallows to me to do a makeover if you like” - she got hundreds in the following years and is still getting some. Never underestimate a YT viewership’s love.
I couldn’t help but laugh as you continued to take large bin after large bin. Man, I know people love watching you but they REALLY love contributing to this project AND love you to death, lol. That is insane level of support with your project and I’m thrilled for you. I don’t know what I would do in your position but I’m thankful to be here to watch your process. This is going to be sooooo much fun!
I kind of hope your Mugler dress videos go viral and you get all the support and new viewers that you deserve. You can definitely use extra scales to make accessories, like a Mugler handbag?? And I agree with someone's comment about making the Marquis fancy scale armor. I am VERY tempted to somehow make the trip to Holiday Matsuri just to meet you 😭It's during my winter school break but I live in California so it'll be a whole trip in itself.
I had a crocodile made out of red and white and blue and white spotted cotton fabric. It had scales all down it’s back and tail and was almost 1.5 meters long (4 feet, 11 inches approx). Perhaps you could use any left over scales to make yourself a beautiful patchwork, scale covered dragon 🐉 ❤ Just an idea 🙂 Thank you for sharing this video with me. Much appreciated. 🙂🐿🌈❤️
Yes, Yes, Yes Prome! I say with glee as I spin around in my chair and imagine it being flung up and away to then spin-fall perfectly to the floor as the cape that keeps getting suggested! Tada...
Wings would be cool, however the weight might be to much ? I would say, wings mounted on acrylic so it looked like they were on her, then she walks away from the wings & the wings light up saying "A Mugler/Hazriel production" (or similar!) So many great LED lights nowadays ! The kind that you can change color on with an App. would be perfect !
Hahahahaha I totally lost it when you showed full bin. Then second. And then third. 🤣 Damn, some of those scales are pieces of art! You should be proud of yourself Ariel, you brought community together and inspired people to make something beautiful. I LOVE this project, you are brilliant! 🥰
Oh Ariel...you underestimated how much we love you. 💝 Now you know you have a probably invincible army at your command, start thinking of what else you need in terrifying amounts!
Just yesterday I thought to myself, "I wonder if Ariel has gotten enough scales for her Mugler project... ?" I see that the answer is yes. 😅 I am so excited to see this dress come to life!
But seriously, how popular is the “cat that’s not your cat”? 😂 I think we ALL agree such a wonderful addition to the family and the channel. A BIG FLUFFY welcome to the “Cat That’s Not Your Cat”
I made a few scales and wanted to send them when I had a few more. I abandoned that when it became apparent that you get more than enough. I still have them here next to my pc waiting to go to some project of my own instead :D
When you mentioned organizing the scales by color, I got so excited. I love organizing things like that. As long as you supplied me apple juice and salted peanuts, I would have sat there and organized them by color and size for you no problem LOL
With two such valuable assistants ("cat who is not my cat" and le Marquis) the sorting time must have flown by.😉 The colors and scale designs were so vibrant. The final gown has to be amazing just with that alone. While I cannot go to the Florida convention, I know that I would love to see a panel on "craft hacks". These would be ways to handle a fast finishing of one's cosplay when time is just about up. What to do (supplies, repair techniques) for "fashion emergencies". I am not a fancy cosplayer so my emergency kit consists of elastics bands, lots of safety pins, tape and one needle with neutral color thread.
Watching you sort the scales was so fun, getting to see glimpses of all the scales I saw people working on in the discord, while on the hunt for a glimpse of mine (seven out of 13k so I'm not holding my breathe :D) it's going to be beautiful
What an amazing community project, hats off to everyone who participated! 👏 I can't wait to see the finished thing, I'll wait patiently. Best of luck with the rest of the project. 🍀 Edit to add: I can't get over the baguette mic and the croissant (?) hanging in the background. 😂 Just wonderful.
I am so happy for you! Sorting sooo many scales seems overwhelming, but you found a way that works. That's a great acomplishment. Taking your time was the right choice. Now step one is done and you can focus on the next. Good luck, I'll cheer for you wherever the project takes you.
Ahhh I got to see my scales on the table when you did the initial color sorting! Love to see the insanely creative designs people did, these are all so pretty. The cat fabric one is excellent.

I’ve always been fascinated by garment making and I have an affinity for the Avantgarde, surreal and experimental. This ticks all the right boxes for me. An absolutely stunning dress.
Lol at Bebou "helping" with the sorting ahaha, he is having the time of his life, little crincley and shiny things and boxes! It's a cat paradise whole you're loosing your mind sorting scales :"D I'm soooo beyond exited for this project!!
To help distribute the weight, can you build in a corset(ish) so some weight is on your hips not just your shoulders? And this is going to be an amazing dress, no matter what you do.
Super excited for you and this dress! I spotted one of my scales in the un-sortable box, the one with the cats on it (in honor of "not my cat"). you're an amazing creator and whatever you make is going to be great! rooting for you!!

I saw my scale! ❤🎉 I can't wait to see what you make with all of the scales. I am so excited. I love everything you make, so I know it will be fun to watch.
I have a half dozen orange velvet scales that i just never sent sitting in a box on my desk 😂 Sooo much variation! Its beautiful just looking at them alone!
I am so excited for this project! You did so good sorting them in just 3 days, I thought it would have taken a few months 😂 you go girl! We're all with you!
The two hardest things to handle in life are failure and success. 'Helpfully' Canada post lost the 60 scales I tried to send. Great video, nice to see you point out different cool ones along the way, all the glorious despair, the Marquis and Notmycat helping. Looking forward to seeing the dress come together.
This is SO magical. The scale(s) of it alone and individual contribution and community talent & power. Beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes. First finding of this place and these people and oh what magic I have found.

There is no "if" There is no way she can add all of them to a dress if she means to walk in it.
Scale cape/cloak to go with the dress?
She could also make a a shorter summer dress inspired by the bug dress🤔
❤❤❤
