@@godbluffvdgg Sorry but, theangrybaby is correct. The closure of most all state run mental hospitals began after a mass reaction the the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. In typical liberal fashion that faux outrage grew over a decade plus to closing all mental hospitals. Sure, without doubt several institutions deserved to be shuttered and the operators jailed i.e. Willowbrook on Staten Island. But the vast majority of mental units were run properly. The evolution of the closures grew and we have now what we have. 80% of chronic homeless people have some degree of mental incapacity that needs attention such as the lady in this vid. How we treat these people today in unconscionable, unfair and inhumane. So yes, many people thought closing those institutions was a great idea. A simple search engine purview will will enlighten you.

I’m not sure anyone thought it was a good idea but it happened more than you know! I live in Oklahoma and we had a mental health hospital that was used for long term care and I believe it was shut down with the idea of reopening and never did! Even our hospital had a wing just for mental illness and it also shut down! Sad cause mental illness isn’t going away!
