  • Going into chemotherapy I felt there was this pressure to get a wig, to hide my bald head, to mimic being a healthy version of me or looking "normal" to fit into society. If I knew then, what I know now I would have had a much better wig shopping/wearing experience. I created this video so you can learn from my mistakes:)
Thank you for being here with me. If you are enjoying these breast cancer journey insights please like and subscribe to this channel so you will be notified when there is a new video, and we can meet again.
Your experience with breast cancer is YOURS to navigate. You get to decide what is best for you. Remove the external pressure to look a certain way or handle your side effects the same as others. There is no one right way to tackle hair loss, what is "right" is what works best for you!
When it came to wig shopping for myself I got caught up in how it looked and completely forgot to pay attention to the feel, fit or size! Sure the color and style may be super cute, but if you put it on and it's itchy, too loose and moving around, OR too tight and cutting off circulation, chances are you aren't going to enjoy wearing it no matter how cute it may be.
Wigs can be expensive. There are so many options from real hair, to acrylic hair, to hand tied, to machine made and the price points vary drastically. I definitely found myself caught up in the "I NEED to find the perfect wig pressure" and was starting to feel overly generous with what I would pay as long as I found "the one" - similar to what can happen when wedding dress shopping. I recommend setting a budget before setting out to find your ideal hair replacement.
Wigs are not the be-all, end-all. They are an accessory available to support, and should you choose they are there to have some fun with. But only you can decide if they will find a place within your story.
You are not alone. See you next time!
    Sincerely,
    Chelsey
