RIP to Rynagh O’Grady (Mary O’Leary) who died in February of this year. Also Frank Kelly who died since this documentary was made. He died on the anniversary of Dermot Morgan’s death.
Brilliant round off to your Father Ted series. There really is no show like it. Thanks again for the reactions!
I've been to see the location used for the Parochial House a few times when I lived in Ireland and NOT ONCE did I visit when there wasn't at least one car load of people outside taking pictures. In one case there was a bus full of young women dressed as "Mrs Doyles" there - a hen party! And yes, I've been inside - Cheryl is a fantastic hostess - they lived there as a family during filming and have plenty of stories to tell about then! It's by invitation only though - you can't just turn up and expect to be served cream tea.
And yes, they had a perfectly square bit of black dirt on the window too!
She must have made a fortune from that little tea room! Rightfully so!
22:46 Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves presenting the award 🏆
My wife is from Dublin and went to the same school as Dermot’s sons. Every time we are back there visiting her family, I take my son to the park in Mount Merrion as it is close to her mother’s house, and there is a blue plaque commemorating Dermot Morgan, and it always moves me cause he was so brilliant and his death was so tragic
Pauline McGlinn wasn't available to do the documentary due to other commitments... no other reason.... I worked on a play at the time with Frank Kelly and he actually told me himself that it was a pity that Pauline couldn't take part and that she was disappointed about it.
That's such a shame she couldn't take part in it glad to hear that it wasn't that she didn't want to that's very cool that you got to work with Frank Kelly rest in peace he was a great funny man and actor
Nice one Ronan.
I heard differently. She refused to take part because she didn't want to be considered
@@chrisduncan5842 rubbish... Pauline isn't like that.... I should know she lives 12 miles away from me
@@ronanwalsh7024you know what she's thinking because she lives 12 miles away, what a bizarre statement. It clearly states on screen that she declined to be part of the documentary and Ardal went on to say he understands why she didn't want to take part.
"People on the internet a lot of times think pointless things." That is the best way I've heard the problems of internet culture expressed in a while. Pretty much sums it all up :D
I enjoyed watching this but enjoyed seeing you smile as you watched over this. It's clear your genuine fondness for the Father Ted series Noah.
I've been a fan of Father Ted for ages, and I'm still so upset with how Dermot left the world so young, and from a heart attack nonetheless. Just imagine what the world could have had if he was around today, unfathomable possibilities.
I'm sure I read at the time that Pauline McGlynn said she didn't do it because it was too painful.
Because she was too associated with the character
She has definitely tried to distance herself from the series, too. For a while she just wasn't interested in talking about the show, which if she felt she was becoming typecast because of it, is fair enough. So while I definitely believe her when she said it was too painful, I also absolutely believe she just didn't want to be associated with it.
She wanted to distance herself from the monotony of the "Go on go on go on" nonsense. But I think she's embracing the Father Ted stuff a bit more over the last few years.
@@memorywarrior8752 She shouldn't have done that brain-damaged tax advert, then. Ugh....
9:08 so sad to see how devastated Jim Norton was to this day over Dermot’s death. Sworn enemies on Craggy Island but very close in real life.
RIP Dermot.
I can understand Pauline not wanting to reconnect with Mrs Doyle ... she was a young woman who played an old lady, every day she gets closer to Mrs Doyle. What woman wants that!
Neil Hannon, aka The Divine Comedy, a fine musician. You should add him to your twich playlist thing
Definitely, one of the greatest singer song writers around - and criminally overlooked.
National Express!

This is a very moving documentary in many ways, and I'm glad you covered it. The fact this exists is a testament to how beloved the show was, and still is today. It's not many C4 shows that get this sort of treatment. I refuse to get into the erm... Graham situation there. This show was the product of much more than just one man - lightning in a bottle material, everything and everyone - writers, cast, crew - all came together to create something truly special. Jim Norton's segment early on here was especially touching. Such a shame he couldn't watch that episode, but it's entirely understandable.
For people my age this was essentially our "Fawlty Towers" - something I discovered buried on C4 in early 1995 that was so immediately magnetic. I taped every episode. I then introduced it to my parents, and we watched the rest of that first series together and laughed so hard. It was something we could all share together. Never cruel, never malicious, but always funny.
And as lovely as that final episode "Going to America" is, I can't watch it again. Too much.
The background music being played from 12:53 is actually the original (rejected) first submission for the theme music by The Divine Comedy for the series. I'm glad they did change it as the actual theme is far more iconic! Also, The Divine Comedy subsequently released the current theme music on their album Casanova, entitled Songs of Love, with words! ruclips.net/video/k64RlXzecPU/видео.html
I’m pretty sure there was a misunderstanding and that wasn’t the reason Pauline didn’t take part, she was busy doing something else I think
I think she was doing Shameless.
She later revealed that it she would have liked to take part, but would have found it very difficult to revisit Father Ted without Dermot and Geoffrey.
As a Northern Irish person, this show always made me feel closer to an otherwise alien Republic of Ireland. It proved our humour is the same.
Humour trumps Politics every time!! 😊👍
Omg I thought for the longest time you had to be from the north to like Derry Girls! I guess I felt the same way about the north!
@@busterburn5659 Derry Girls isn't the best. We do better at stand up than sitcoms though!
I’m from Northern Ireland as well and think Northern Irish/Irish humour is amongst the very best in the world 😁
From the north myself but live right on the border so spend a lot of time in the south (especially Monaghan). Don't see how the republic could be alien to you
Thanks for the reactions, much appreciated. The show holds a special place in my heart as it does for many.
This is a wonderful documentary which I've seen several times over the years, and it was great to see your reaction to it. It's still heartbreaking hearing Jim Norton saying he can't watch Kicking Bishop Brennan... because it's too painful with what happened to Dermot.
Ted is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, and it's been a joy seeing your reactions to every episode.
I find this heartbreaking to watch. All the wonderful actors in this show who've passed on and knowing your childhood is long gone.
I love this documentary, but it’s so sad. Father Ted is my second favourite sitcom of all time, and it’s so sad that Dermott was gone so soon. Frank Kelly also having passed since this was filmed of course. RIP both.
I’ve loved watching these reactions and watching someone from another country enjoy this amazing show for the first time.
Thank you so much for reacting to this.
A perfect way to end this journey - I love your love for Father Ted, I revisit your reactions whenever I need a bit of Ted.
Just such a good show. Thanks Taffe, it's been so much fun watching them again with you.
That's probably a good few years ago now, but Michael Redmond still has the long hair and Hulk Hogan moustache.
There are still a few short Father Ted sketches out there. They hosted Comic Relief segments in the 90s and there's also a sketch where they celebrated footballer Jack Charlton's birthday
There is still when Father Ted did Comic Relief. They were presenters for a hour. Just 6mins or so.
I remember in the 90s early naughties when I used to go to church (catholic), the priest would talk after mass with us parishioners and joke and laugh about ted episodes......it was so great, even the subject matter, found it funny and were open about their feelings. No other comedy
Thanks for uploading this. I had no idea they made a documentary. What a very moving ending. I now feel like watching the series again.
Had a few tears watching that. That show is very special. Great to have watched it with you.
Father Ted is unmatched. It's perfect and humble and kind of precious, and always an absolute joy to watch. I love it and laugh just as much now on the umpteenth watch than I did 25 years ago. I would happily watch all 3 series over again with you if you decided to do that.
When I first saw the documentary, I really felt Pauline McLynn's absence. She is such a good character. I don't think it was because she wanted to disassociate herself with the programme per se, more that she wanted to look forward rather than back, but I can understand if that was the case. What drove that home for me was when she got married, there she was looking gorgeous in her beautiful dress, and she was made to pose with a teapot and cup.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Father Ted. I have a question for you, though- You were born after this was made. Does it feel dated to you? Some programmes really show their age, but Father Ted has always felt timeless to me.
Lights... camera... drink!
I saw Pauline McLynn do a stand up routine as Mrs. Doyle on Irish TV. Dermot and Ardal were on the same bill, but not in character. That doesn't suggest that she didn't like the character or the series. More recently, she has said she has good memories of the show.
35:50 that's the saddest display of ferrero rocher i've ever seen, not spoiling anyone.
Hahaha John's eyeing it in disgust.
Really enjoyed your watchalong series with this. Well done.
You may like I'm Alan partridge
Haven’t seen this before. There is another documentary about Dermont’s career
Thanks for doing this. Thoroughly enjoyed
Was not expecting to see Father Jack in his speedos emerging from the Forty Foot like James Bond!
Great round off 🙂 really enjoyed every ted review immensely
25:53 was so emotional
Hadn't seen this for a while. It was fun to see some of the places again. My mum has probably driven some of those roads on our holidays on the west coast in the last decade. This aired on a 15th anniversary night, and the viewers' choice, Speed 3, aired along with the writers' choice, Kicking Bishop Brennan Up the Arse. I remember the announcer beginning it all saying "Lights, Camera, Drink!"
I think in the 10 years since Pauline has been a little more at peace with it now, along with writing books, a side business making crafts and a brief stint in EastEnders. A few years before this programme she had done a series of commercials as Mrs. Doyle urging you to "Go on, go on, go on" and fill in your tax returns. She got a bit of abuse for it, which I think upset her as it jarred so much with the usual love the characters get. During this time she was going through a bit of a Leonard Nimoy/I Am Not Spock phase, and I blame that backlash a bit for it. Ardal went through it too with Dougal but he got over it pretty quickly.
Ardal went back to the house again when he did a travelogue series around Ireland, and he mentioned how during filming the first series, because people didn't know the show yet, when he went into town on a filming break, people would be really polite to him and give him freebies, because they thought he was a real priest! It showed how much the church ruled even in the 90s.
It's weird to think this was 10 years ago
Feels recent; suppose the years just blend together
Thanks for watching this
Towards the ten minute mark, you can hear the music for "My Lovely Mayo Mammy" 😂🤣🤣😂🤣
Well this was officially great can’t believe that it. But I guest going to watch this over again. Thank you
8:43 it's exactly why Pauline McLynn didn't want to do the documentary. A classic case of wanting to focus on her current work that a lot of actors have. Not seen her in much else though which might be part of it, Ardal O'Hanlon is well known as a stand up as well as father dougall. She was in Gameface though just recently and she's brilliant in that.
The best part by far of this was Graeme getting annoyed at the little kid who doesn't get Father Ted
Great reaction once again noah,, i know you say its your last piece of father ted content but with enough likes, replies, requests, etc,, would you consider a compilation of your top ten favourate moments or failing that a simple rundown of your top ten episodes? You said the mainland was your favourate knocking speed 3 off the top spot if i recall correctly but nonetheless i along with many more of your subscribers im sure would be interested to hear more of your insights,,
24.29 father hernandez voice😁.... Again there are no words to express how thankful i am!.... Thats a bit ungrateful ted!
I worked with Dermott's sister for years. She's a lady and told me that they had an episode that nearly was made. Ted and Dougal get left on a double decker Dublin Bus after falling asleep. They get left there all night with a vicious dog in the lower deck.
Thank you. Despite being a Brit, I had only seen a handful of Father Ted before and now seen it all - i was reacting for the first time myself, with you. The same for Phoenix Nights and The I T Crowd. I enjoy your channel. Work love you to react to Alan Partridge, esp Knowing Me, Knowing You and I'm Alan Partridge
That would mean enduring series 2 im alan partridge
@@BloodyVengeance not necessarily, if enough of us advise him which to watch and which are poor and not in demand of a reaction. I agree with you btw on that follow up series!
Odd. Those writers are driving around in a Ford Granada. Ted had a ford Cortina. But all good
Anyone who would like to see Frank Kelly (father jack) in some early comedy clips look up Halls pictorial weekly.
I wish there was a Christmas special episode or a final episode of sorts where Father Ted, or maybe even Dougal was in real contention to become the next Pope, I think that would be comedy gold guaranteed
Michael Redmond aka father paul stone does shoutouts for money he even does it in character some of your patreon subscribers could fund you a tailored intro
Sometimes I want a spin off series, just a few episodes, about the lives of Father Dick Burne or Father Larry Duff, with short guest stints from Father Dougal, John and Mary and others 😂
I actually went for a piss at the father ted house gate 😁😁😁 proud to say I pissed there lol
Amazing show
There's an episode of Shooting Stars with Dermot Morgan as a contestant, if you'd like to react to that.
He was also a guest on Have I Got News For You
DOUGAL! WE ARE NOT WATCHING ALIENS
Pauline McLynn posed for photos to advertise Father Ted stamps, so I doubt she minds the association that much.
Look up 'Stamps Celebrate 25 Years of Father Ted' here on RUclips.
Great stuff x
watch the young ones man its the best. also check out the danger brothers too
Would love to see a reaction to My Hero after this.
Such an underrated show. It was great fun.
Hello Len!
Hi! Unfortunately Fr ted is the pinnacle of Irish comedy tv! Some great funny Irish films though, first that come to mind is The Young Offenders for more Irish humour!
Or Derry Girls! Can’t believe I forgot Derry girls!
And "Give My Head Peace" from the north, though don't think many people outside of the north would get it!
They were driving teds car
That's certainly the impression they were trying to give but the car in Father Ted was a Ford Cortina (Mk V) and the car in the documentary was the slightly larger and more luxurious Ford Granada (Mk II), presumably it was the closest they could find in that shade of blue.
@@mustakrakish4919 thanks didn’t keep
It's a real shame what happened to Graham Linehan. He made such good shows before he went nuts.
Father Ted, black books and the IT crowd! A CV to be proud of. Man is clearly a very funny and talented writer. Just a shame he has become what he has and says the shit that he does.
