They only count people actually collecting unemployment benefits, and most states only allow a person 6 months or so on average to collect. They don't factor in someone who either gets denied unemployment or someone whos benefits have run out. Whats the real number? Your guess is as good as mine, but I can tell you this. I'm about to travel cross country for work in a few weeks. I'm in Massachusetts right now and for a guy like me the job market is tight. Without a Masters degree in this country you're in trouble.

I'm a true independent and didn't vote for either mainstream candidate but in the months leading up to the election the right wing media put forth this ridiculous narrative that the election would be close and the left wing media was too afraid to take a hard line by calling it for Obama as people like Nate Silver did. I took over a dozen significant bets from several conservative friends of mine who drank the Fox News Kool-aid that the election was close and won them all. I even won a really significant bet that Obama would clear 320 electoral votes while my conservative friends laughed saying Romney would get that many votes. This is typical of their denial of reality but they aren't supposed to fool themselves. I put a whole lot of money and items (new laptop, phone, etc.) where my mouth was and didn't lose a second of sleep over my decision, some of the bets being made weeks before the election. While it wasn't set to be a landslide it was pretty clear that he was a lock to win and even after the election was called by experts on his own team he was still in denial. When they said 99.95% they were saying it was 100%. The right needs to stop being science deniers. These calls are based on an incredibly complicated methodology with graduate level statistics done by people who know what the hell they're talking about. When a statistician tells you that something is 99.95% guaranteed with their reputation on the line then you can safely accept what they're saying without giving it a second thought. This wasn't a poll designed to get ratings and get the base all fired up. This was a concession that they would rather have done almost anything than give. What a fool. Fox News continued their nonsense by playing to the base even after their own people called the election. I was getting texts form my friends with whom I placed bets saying that they weren't read to concede because Fox News began to doubt their decision to call it when in reality, that was never close to be true.
I don't get it. Even if Romney won Ohio the mathematics of him winning every other needed state was impossible. He need five battleground states. He took one of those five he needed (North Carolina) as well as a safe Republican state that was toss-up in 2008 (Indiana). No reason for him to get so angry even if the Ohio results turned out different.

I'm a true independent and didn't vote for either mainstream candidate but in the months leading up to the election the right wing media put forth this ridiculous narrative that the election would be close and the left wing media was too afraid to take a hard line by calling it for Obama as people like Nate Silver did. I took over a dozen significant bets from several conservative friends of mine who drank the Fox News Kool-aid that the election was close and won them all. I even won a really significant bet that Obama would clear 320 electoral votes while my conservative friends laughed saying Romney would get that many votes. This is typical of their denial of reality but they aren't supposed to fool themselves. I put a whole lot of money and items (new laptop, phone, etc.) where my mouth was and didn't lose a second of sleep over my decision, some of the bets being made weeks before the election. While it wasn't set to be a landslide it was pretty clear that he was a lock to win and even after the election was called by experts on his own team he was still in denial. When they said 99.95% they were saying it was 100%. The right needs to stop being science deniers. These calls are based on an incredibly complicated methodology with graduate level statistics done by people who know what the hell they're talking about. When a statistician tells you that something is 99.95% guaranteed with their reputation on the line then you can safely accept what they're saying without giving it a second thought. This wasn't a poll designed to get ratings and get the base all fired up. This was a concession that they would rather have done almost anything than give. What a fool. Fox News continued their nonsense by playing to the base even after their own people called the election. I was getting texts form my friends with whom I placed bets saying that they weren't read to concede because Fox News began to doubt their decision to call it when in reality, that was never close to be true.

I don't get it. Even if Romney won Ohio the mathematics of him winning every other needed state was impossible. He need five battleground states. He took one of those five he needed (North Carolina) as well as a safe Republican state that was toss-up in 2008 (Indiana). No reason for him to get so angry even if the Ohio results turned out different.

This was so ridiculous. After 2000, it’s highly unlikely any of the major networks would call a state without being highly confident that they are right. In any event, I would not have listened to Rove, who is ultra partisan and had a vested financial interest in Romney winning.
