The Mississippi legislature's decision has been to reject medical assistance to low income Mississippians. If Mississippi accepted federal aid dollars to provide Medicaid coverage to poor people, the state would have to contribute a significantly smaller percentage to run their Medicaid program. But Mississippi rejects Medicaid coverage. Since Mississippi rejects Medicaid coverage to their residents, a significant number die or are sick from lack of healthcare including infants. More infants die in Mississippi since pregnant women and presumably recently born babies don't receive needed healthcare, and in general, higher numbers of people die from chronic diseases like heart disease. Plus the Mississippi government has bankrupted or are bankrupting rural hospitals (which was mentioned in this video). Rural hospitals don't get much revenue but accept low income rural patients. The low-income hospital patients can't afford the care the hospital provides (no health insurance I guess), and the hospitals are going under without money coming in which would've been provided by Medicaid health insurance. If I'm not mistaken, Mississippi has a lot of impoverished people so the lack of healthcare is very bad there. Plus, if Republicans motto is to allow people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, how do you even work if you're chronically sick or have injuries?
I just don't understand why they make abortion an issue one way or the other. The best answer is to say it is your choice. For those who believe it is wrong then believe that God will sort it out at the end.

How many visibly pregnant women have you met who don't want to have their baby?! At that point the baby is WANTED. The only very rare reason people end a late term pregnancy is when something has gone catastrophically wrong and the mother's life is in jeopardy or the babies life has something severely wrong that would not make not viable. It's really only something a doctor is qualified to be judging. A woman is invested in her pregnancy and her community is looking forward to a new baby after a woman begins to show in the final months of pregnancy. No one makes that choice unless the alternative is truly awful. Just be grateful you've never lived this nightmare and don't judge those who do.

Abortion is a losing issue for Republicans. Women will be pro-life all day, but almost every woman has been touched by that tough decision in some way in their life or in someone that they know. It’s a very personal and private issue for them. I have so many female friends who are conservative, but 90% of them have told me stories of how abortion has impacted them. It’s a very private issue for them. It’s very personal for them. I would never and have never judged my friends who had to make that tough decision. Doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do, but I’ve gotten that phone call from friends who are scared and terrified. They needed a shoulder to cry on as they made the toughest decision in their life. It humbles you real quick.

there is nothing wrong with banning abortion in the second trimester. The problem is when you lead people to think you will ban them in the first trimester and don't make exceptions for for birth defects and to save the life of the mother. virginia is pretty safe…so it wasn’t a big issue. louisiana, arkansas, mississippi, new mexico, alaska and Tennessee are the most dangerous states, yet they keep choosing republicans.
Since the 90s Republicans have become the party of the rural and outer suburban population only. Democrats became the urban party in the 70s and have focused on that, knowing that the majority of people live urban or inner (older) suburb. If Republicans want to win large district, state or national elections the candidates need to start finding out what urban/metro voters need and want...then address that in their platforms. You can raise a lot of money in 10000 person counties, but 20 of those counties aren't going to overcome a 300000 person city surrounded by aging suburbs with another 200000 people.
As a fiscal conservative, I think it was a colossal mistake to mess with the abortion issue. There are just some things better left alone. Republicans always tout less government intrusion, but yet on this issue they demand strict government oversight. They need to slowly walk away from this issue and focus on fiscal issues.
Because unlike the other things that we call for less government intrusion, the federal government actually does have a constitutional mandate to ensure that people's natural rights to life are not being infringed upon, and Roe V. Wade was a garbage decision that directly involved a branch of the federal government intruding on the states' ability to form their own policy, so allowing that to stand implies that we're fine with the Federal Government's continued attempt to obtain more direct power over the issues that effect us, down to fiscal/economic issues. Go ahead and read the Roe v. Wade decision, along with Doe V. Bolton and Casey v. Planned Parenthood, and then read Dobbs. Was Alito wrong in his assessment of Roe? Sorry, but we can't always be worrying about tax cuts. Having a stable society with well adjusted adults who don't think their own offspring are expendable for the sake of their personal comfort is a net benefit.

How many visibly pregnant women have you met who don't want to have their baby?! At that point the baby is WANTED. The only very rare reason people end a late term pregnancy is when something has gone catastrophically wrong and the mother's life is in jeopardy or the babies life has something severely wrong that would not make not viable. It's really only something a doctor is qualified to be judging. A woman is invested in her pregnancy and her community is looking forward to a new baby after a woman begins to show in the final months of pregnancy. No one makes that choice unless the alternative is truly awful. Just be grateful you've never lived this nightmare and don't judge those who do.

It’s a very private issue for them. It’s very personal for them. I would never and have never judged my friends who had to make that tough decision. Doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do, but I’ve gotten that phone call from friends who are scared and terrified. They needed a shoulder to cry on as they made the toughest decision in their life. It humbles you real quick.

What happens when you tell a child with force not to do something? They want to do it more! The same thing is happening here. I believe most women are responsible enough to the right thing. There are obviously people that will choose differently and most of them have huge regrets and mental health effects afterwards. I just try to think on both sides and that responsibility will ultimately lie with the person anyway.

Since the 90s Republicans have become the party of the rural and outer suburban population only. Democrats became the urban party in the 70s and have focused on that, knowing that the majority of people live urban or inner (older) suburb.
If Republicans want to win large district, state or national elections the candidates need to start finding out what urban/metro voters need and want...then address that in their platforms.
You can raise a lot of money in 10000 person counties, but 20 of those counties aren't going to overcome a 300000 person city surrounded by aging suburbs with another 200000 people.

As a fiscal conservative, I think it was a colossal mistake to mess with the abortion issue. There are just some things better left alone. Republicans always tout less government intrusion, but yet on this issue they demand strict government oversight. They need to slowly walk away from this issue and focus on fiscal issues.

Because unlike the other things that we call for less government intrusion, the federal government actually does have a constitutional mandate to ensure that people's natural rights to life are not being infringed upon, and Roe V. Wade was a garbage decision that directly involved a branch of the federal government intruding on the states' ability to form their own policy, so allowing that to stand implies that we're fine with the Federal Government's continued attempt to obtain more direct power over the issues that effect us, down to fiscal/economic issues.
Go ahead and read the Roe v. Wade decision, along with Doe V. Bolton and Casey v. Planned Parenthood, and then read Dobbs. Was Alito wrong in his assessment of Roe?
Sorry, but we can't always be worrying about tax cuts. Having a stable society with well adjusted adults who don't think their own offspring are expendable for the sake of their personal comfort is a net benefit.
