- Extremely old and weird! In college, I was heavily into Tracy Chapman's debut album. When I saw her play a giant festival concert, her between-song banter was almost comically humble and shy. So I thought I'd record a concept EP where I'm a Tracy Chapman impersonator performing at a cavernous venue typically used for monster-truck rallies. Unfortunately, no one shows up.
Before the performance, I rented a video camera from the video store and recorded the picture to my VCR. It's the first footage of me playing and singing. This was before I had ever performed in front of anyone, including friends, and one of the first times I had ever tried acting. Given that I was just a few years out of a Connecticut prep school, I apologize in advance for the cultural appropriation. One more time, Satchmo!

I love your covers. I was 6 years old in that time, anyway i loved tracy's songs!
Even back then you were a great comedian and great artist.
Great stuff man. I've been listening to that album for about 25 years (still have the CD). It's a fantastic and moving collection of songs.
I like performing artists that keep it real. Thanks for this insight into the Tracy Chapman experience.
Cool.
This is sooo good!
!
Wow!
Bloody Bob!! He always was...
Interesting and certainly not an easy artist to cover! I saw many legit concerts at the Cow Palace as a kid.
Was she that talkative at the show you attended? Because she used to be really quiet while on stage, especially at the beginning on her career
Probably not. But she said some things. She must have dedicated a song to a pet or something.
