We own a 2018 Volvo. We loved this car until in vehicle start leaking water from the center unit on the front windshield and by the rear tailgate. We still have factory warranty but it’s not covered. The cause of the problem is the drainage system in the sunroof got clogged and the dealership claimed external factors. We don’t use the sunroof and we don’t live in an area that throws any type of debris from tree or any other external factors. We do have things like air and pollen which is why I claimed it’s a design flaw. So I lost that battle. I asked then to show me where in the manual, it’s states for me to maintain and clean the drainage. The response was there isn’t one. We haven’t own the car for 4 years yet. I have owned a lot of new vehicles with sunroof’s and owned them for a lot longer and never had this issue where the interior floods. So we paid the $600. This will be our last Volvo.
That's the most beautiful and restrained yet meticulously crafted interior I have seen in years!
I traded my 2015 Audi S8 and got a 2018 XC90 since a lil one is on the way. With that being said this is a great stylish alternative to a Mini-van or a SUV that is trying to be a Minivan without the sliding door. So far I like this thing. It has a very nice interior even when compared to the 2015 S8. Power wise its plenty for what this car is. I pull past most cars on the freeway no issue. Mid range this thing hauls. Is it like the S8...heck no....not even close! We looked at this being the T6 inscription(wifes choice) vs GLS 450(my choice). And the GLS felt cheap with standard MB-tex and MBUSA options the crap out of you for everything! From ventilated seats, pano roof and individual safety packs. Which are part of the trim in a Volvo. If you go for the GLS550 sure you get them all, but you pay 90K. I rather save my money and get yet another S8 five years from now, once the munchkin can climb in on its own. And please don't compare to Audi Q7, since the folks at Audi forgot about placing vents in the 3rd even in their advanced climate control pack. Why make a 3rd row without vents, its bad enough that we stuff people back there, now I make them sweat it out too! XC90 third row's vents blow nice and hard. When I looked at my needs in the 3 row luxury SUV, this was the only appliance that fit the bill. Now if Lexus could get their act together, by giving us some new engines that were developed in the last decade or dare I say brand new and lose the predator face styled grill, I would consider them 1st because of the reliability factor. But for now XC90 seems like the only decent luxury 3 row SUV out there.
With the Inscription model you can open the tailgate by passing your foot under the bumper as well. Also, your key can be charged by placing it the centre cupholder.
Another nice thing about your video is that it beautifully showcases the maroon brown leather option. Don't know of another video that shows it, or shows it as well.
I have the 2017 model and I love it .. You missed two things: Camera can be Rear OR 360 too. Also, there is a 4th way to open trunk: foot sense or whatever it's called ..
i always see this car drive by and its soo freakin beautiful
Enjoyed not only the vehicle, but your presentation. You sort of sounded like the announcer on the Price is Right... That's okay though, it's exciting!
Excellent review. I’m sold.
Does it come standard with remote start ?
Could not focus. Calves too magnificent.
Yoooooooooo those calves!!!!!! Running out like John Cena
I've had no problems at all with my '17 XC90 R-Design. Volvo's standard infotainment technology, drivers assistance, and safety features make the XC90 a relative bargain compared to its competitors in this class. RUclips commentors complain about the 4 cylinder T6 engine without ever having driven one. They complain about reliability issues without ever owning one. They complain about the price, yet Audi, BMW, or Mercedes charges $10-20K more for the same options that are standard in the XC90. I purchased the 100,000 mile extended warranty when I bought the car so any out of pocket repair costs will be minimal after the original 4yr/50,000 mile manufacturers warranty expires. Any European luxury brands repair costs are high after the original warranty expires. Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar-Land Rover, etc. And now I'll sit back and look forward to hearing from the haters and naysayers in the response section.
XC90 is an absolutely gorgeous car. I am looking forward to seeing XC40 on roads in near future. And I am thinking I might be interested in buying one. What do you think
J High well put. I love these cars, a little worried about reliability, but as you noted, those warranties are great.
RoY ParK
If you're young and single with no kids, it's probably a great car for you. It's definitely not a family hauler.
That color is absolutely atrocious. There is no way in hell I would pay $5.00 for that abysmal red vehicle. No taste in cars whatsoever!
Kool Acclaimed™
My first RUclips stalker in quite awhile. I'm flattered.
This dude doesn't skip leg day for sure...😂😂
Love this car man. My dream SUV!
I recently leased one of these 2 months ago coming off a 2015 BMW X5 lease. It’s a great SUV and I don’t miss the X5. Couple corrections. There is a 4th way to open the trunk, with your foot under the trunk. You said you get the different drive modes with the air suspension, you get those drive modes with the regular suspension as well. With the air suspension it will adjust, without shift and braking adjusts for those modes. My 3 biggest complaints are 1: I wish the HVAC controls were not in the big center screen, but manual controls. The reason being on start up it takes a few minutes for the system to boot, which makes getting to screens for HVAC laggy. 2: When you plug in Android or iPhone car systems the navigation is separate from the one that displays on the driver screen. It’s like the car has multiple navigation personalities. Android auto Nav is great and I read that the next XC iteration will be android based. 3: This one is my biggest. I hate the engine sound the car makes. My X5 sounded awesome. This sounds a little loud and like a lawnmower. I think they are pumping in sound, if so they need to change it or make it more quiet. This reason alone will make me hesitant to get another.
Tom Rupp but y lease? Y u did not buy
sit down and be humble A couple reasons. I don’t drive a ton of miles. If the car is a dud or accident my money is not trapped and I can walk away. I never have to pay for major issues, always under warranty. Never buy tires. Cars are more complex. After warranty fixing becomes expensive. I like switching cars every 3 years. 2 car family, I’ve leased every car since 1997.
Tom Rupp OK I will look into it sounds better
"Takes a few minutes for the system to boot"...how is that acceptable..? Great observation Tom. I can't stand these reviewers that ignore these flaws and miss the opportunity to get some feedback to the manufacturer to address these issues.
,
David Mrskos I agree reviewers need to be a little more critical. Overall the interface is fine after 60 seconds.(60 secs doesn’t sound long, but how often do you wait a minute after you start a car and go) But if you want to get in and go. Throwing it in reverse also can lag getting the backup up camera going. I think they need a faster computer since the screen on the dash and the main screen are talking to each other, it’s resource heavy on start up. The system also makes this weird tech noise if the car is off. The only way to describe it is like from the movie transformers when they transform. It’s a low noice but there. Just drove in my first snow fall. I think the car is fine, but the all season Pirelli tires are just ok. I switched in Continental contacts for the winter on the BMW X5 20’s those were fantastic. I’m not going to change them for a leased car, I wanted to avoid that scenario unlike the BMW, but I would definitely get Continental tires if I kept the car after the original tires were worn.
aren't those wheels the 21" options?
Are you based in Seattle??
Love the new leather color
I purchased my first car (as I had always been a leaser) in March of 2016. I was very excited and proud to put my 3 small boys (1, 3, 4 at the time) in a Volvo XC90. I had done my research and saved in earnest and had no doubt I would love this vehicle. 2 years later, I have been in to the Cranston RI Tasca dealership 7 times as I write this comment. ALL of these visits have been related to recalls and software updates and NONE have been proactive/I have had to call to report and schedule and take 3 car seats out and wait to hear my fate. Mind you I work full time and my youngest is a special needs child with many appointments I need to coordinate my schedule around. Imagine the experience of having NO ONE from the Tasca dealership or from Volvo corporate get back to you when you call to seek advice and assistance? My most recent turn? There was a "known" recall on the vehicle for a sun roof sealing issue and water was pouring into the onstar console. Also, the check engine light went on (and I assumed these might be related). I was told after I dropped the car off on Monday and was given a 4 seater sedan mind you, we expect to have the car back to you within 48 hours. Yesterday they told me more likely a week--there is a transmission line that needs to be replaced. This vehicle has less than 20K miles on it. I am exhausted at the energy I have expended to get it in and out and the experience has just been TERRIBLE. Worst purchase I have ever made and worst customer experience I could ever dreamed of. Yes--Volvo is a popular "luxury" brand and Tasca is an awarded dealership but every customer experience is what maintains your status. No one at Volvo Corporate (after several emails and phone calls) nor at the Tasca dealership seems to care about my inquiries, pleas for advice and guidance on how to stop this ongoing cycle...and I just barely miss lemon law statutes on time off the road this car has spent. That said, I will NEVER stop telling my story or working to ensure other well intentioned buyers are aware of this egregious experience.
Tammy Reina Thanks for your comment. I’m purchasing a 7 seaters in 5 weeks but now I’m kinda skeptical. Feel like it’s safer to go with the Q7.
I am sorry to hear that. I hope you got your car ok this time. 😧
Dave's been wearing Jimmy's jumping shoes.
Looks an excellent vehicle. I need an R design D5
Would amendment inside manufacturer appear since experiment.
Dave, those wheels are 21” and would avoid those. Have the same and drive is choppy relatively and thin profile tires are not good enough on bad roads. Stick the 19” or 20” standard on Inscription
Dealzguy Thanks, wondered about that.
Only backup camera on such a beast looking vehicle? No love for 360cam??
How did you get those calves? I couldn't pay attention to your video when looking at those things! What sports/exercise do you practice?
I was thinking' "man this guy never misses leg day"
Yes
He’s so hot. Dave is so my type. He’s so clean cut and bro-ey.

We need a review of your calves! They are beautiful.
Okay okay, but Dave's calves are getting crazy ripped. Start a fitness channel dave!
K M O LOL I thought the same, but wanted to look if someone else noted and commented on it before looking weird lol
Facts... calves is distracting me lol... makes me wanna go do leg day
I’m next car, 2018!!
I will love to have an SUV but it must be a 7 seater
Nice car for buying👍
Take it offroad!!
I WANT IT SO BAD
Great review. Suggestion though: when you show the legroom in the 2nd row of your reviews you never show the lean ability of the chair you are in. I won't buy a vehicle without some lean to the 2nd row.
sshorkey it does lean all three seats in 2nd row...
This car looks better than the escalade
He could get it...he could definitely get it.
This guy is no everyman. Avoids any objective criticism of the car, and just offers a puff piece review.
Great vehicle, but understated to the point of being forgettable.
And that engine, long-term, doesn't sound like a great investment.
The Drive-E 4 cyl has been around since 2014, MY2015, on the XC60, including the 316 HP super-charged and turbo-charged version. There have been no problems with this engine. Volvo has been turbocharging engines since the 1980s, and they know how to strength an engine to stand up to the rigors of turbo-charging. It a core Volvo strength.
The 4 cyl is worrisome.....too complex and too small for a vehicle of this size
weirdshibainu only thing I worry about in this car is reliability. All the new tech is cool but I'm sure will be costly in the shop.
mike wellington true. I've owned 4 volvos and had really good luck with the engines, but they were always naturally aspirated and were sized right to the car....the last 4 cyl was in a 740. It was the B23 redblock. It had 350000 trouble free miles on it, until it was totaled in accident...not my fault
weirdshibainu yeah, it will be interesting to see how these engines stand the test of time. Some worry about the Chinese money put into these cars, but I don't think that will impact the quality at all.
mike wellington I'm not concerned about the Chinese money as long as they continue to build in Sweden for u.s. export. If they build cars in China for the Chinese/Asian market, not a problem. Ford had their chance to enhance the brand and they screwed it up.
weirdshibainu very true.
The info-entertainment system looks dangerous, like trying to text and drive. It has too many swipes to get to things which takes your eyes off the road. I don't like it at all. Some dials and analog controls are needed to make driving less distracting. I'm surprised Volvo did this. I looked at the screen at an auto show and it was too complicated to use while trying to keep your eyes on the road. Bad design. I'm looking to buy an SUV crossover and the design plus the high price makes this a total no go. I like the new high end VW Tiguan SEL Premium All Wheel drive... all the same safety features, much lower price, and better designed info/entertainment system.
IceStation Zebra When you own one, it all becomes second nature. A lot of the screen’s features are available on voice command, too. Plus there’s no need to use the screen while driving unless you REALLY want to turn some features on/off; or idk use it at a stop and not while you drive just like your phone?! Also you’ll basically be paying the same amount as a new Volvo after all the maintenance for the VW. This is coming from a longtime VW Touareg and now XC90 owner.
Dave you’re hot
How is he so fit ❤️❤️😛❤️❤️❤️😫😫
E-DNice SUV but not for your everyday driver, $$$$$ is the reason. Plus out of warranty cost of repairs and parts.
Bextar636
The dealer warranty covers the first 4yr/50,000 miles of ownership or lease. You can purchase an extended 100,000 miles or more warranty at the same time you buy the car. Next gripe please...lol?
The price $$$$$$$$$$... reason why very few seen on the roads!
Bextar636
Not all of us live on a budget, mi amigo. People who car shop at these price points aren't pinching pennies. Volvo isn't a volume carmaker like their competition. Take note of how many previous generation XC90's and other Volvo models are still on the road. Volvo owners are awarded medallions certifying 100K, 200K, 300K miles and higher. Crappy cars don't last hundreds of thousands of miles while still being driven regularly, mon ami.
Poncho, who in the hell wants to own a Volvo with over 100,000 miles. This amigo trades off his BMW every 2 years after boredom sets in..........
Bextar636
I agree. I never keep a car more than 4 years or close to 100K miles. 3 to 4 years or when it hits 80K on the odometer is when I start looking to trade in. Most extended warranties are prorated and then refunded back upon trade-in, so I get some of the purchase price back. Many Volvo owners are fanatically brand loyal and rack up several hundred thousand miles before they reluctantly buy a newer one. The snowbelt regions of the US are generally where you see the previous XC90 body style in abundance. The sunbelt states, not so much. You don't have to like Volvo's, but they have a loyal fan base. You rarely see a rusted out older Volvo, because they are rugged like a tank.
Looks like my CRV...
Ugliest suv even it is the safest . Ugliest dashboard and displays/screens.
