Buzz is one of the important underground musicians. He really helped bridge the gap between punk rock and heavy metal. His influence went far and wide.
Fun fact, they are referred to as the "Godfathers of Grunge", which I disagree with, they were always more punk / groove. If you listen to songs like "Revolve", you can clearly see how Rob Zombie, Sevendust, even Korn stole that sound from the Melvins. And never gave them credit.
Buzz has a great memory. He can recall the littlest thing with great detail. Also super smart guy, extremely talented. Great band, definitely should be on more people list of influences.
Just saw Melvins in London…took me 30 years to do it..man it was so so weirdly heavy…was an unforgettable show for me. I love how cool Buzzo is, down to earth and doesn’t do any of that political crap.
He's a GEN Xer. We don't put politics in our business. I 100% agree he is a great guy, seen them a few times, Bogart's in Long Beach in the very early 90's, they were awesome then, and still are. And you're right, they are a lot heavier than you'd think live.
Buzz is the grumpiest down to earth person. The fact that he is still playing and gas a massive back catalog shows how hard working a guy he is.Also the Melvins have influenced countless bands and deserve more acclaim but such is the case with art.
Buzz is a class act…always has been. Touring machine and never succumbed to the stereotypical pitfalls that engulf so many other “famous“ musicians. He’s a great conversationalist as well.
@@alvinhaglund5811 Envy? Google it. Oh, the hardest working? On the road as a working musician all these years, putting out 30 albums and not making big money, just grinding it for a living? That is a real rocker.
I met Buzz a couple of weeks ago. He was smiling and very kind but he was chilling and I think he wanted no fans bugging him LOL. But he was very nice.
Hey! Great interview/video! I was lucky enough to work with Buzz/Dale during the Atlantic years. (Houdini, Stoner Witch & Stag). They were super cool to me and it was such a great experience for me as a kid right out of college, especially considering I had ONLY heard the Lysol release prior to 1993. It was cool to meet guys who played non generic heavy music that were still into the Stones, Kiss, Sabbath and Black Flag, etc.
86 may have been Sound Seas. I started flying down to El Paso from Oregon around 82 to see family and going to shows at the Kokehouse around 83 or so. Great interview!
Thank you for the video. What a great channel to stumble upon. Excellent guest too. I wish some of the other guys could have participated. Keep doing this Jim. New subscriber
Man I live in El Paso, how did I not know about this interview for one and for two That the Melvins were here!!! FML i missed it just like I missed the chats when they came through. I miss all the good stuff in this town......
Wow! I just stumbled on this because I enjoy Buzz interviews. Jim Ward too! That’s awesome. Sparta and ATDI have always been an incredibly important part of the soundtrack of my life as well as the Melvins. All in one. So happy to subscribe to this. Thank you
Buzz is an awesome guy and this interviewer was great too. I could have listened for another hour. And one more thing...There are lots makeshift wonders, seven in the world...five of them will not be noticed and three will not be heard.
I've talked to Buzz a few times and I've seen a few different interviews he's done. I'm actually sitting next to a guitar he was nice enough to autograph for me. I always found him to be a bit "impenetrable" and his conversations even with well known interviewers - although well thought and expressed - were also reserved and generally superficial. He likes baseball and playing in a band. That's about as personal as it usually gets. This one was a bit different. Although it's standard "Buzztalk" about grinding out tour after tour no matter what, he also showed me a bit more of his humanity and emotional depth than the usual interview. Maybe getting older and banging on acoustic guitars has a mellowing effect on him.
Born and raised in Northwest Washington. When grunge blew up, I was in the Army. I embraced Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I only just recently listened to the Melvins. Now, when I listen to "classic" grunge, I hear some of the Melvins in most of those bands songs. The Melvins were ground zero for grunge
Spot on about college. People go now because it’s been ingrained in them that they won’t be successful without a degree. That is so false. Many people are successful without going to college. And many people who go to college don’t use their degrees in their careers.
Melvins July 07, 1986 El Paso, TX - Sound Seas w/ RKL, Beyond Possession Buzz was born on March 25, 1964. He would have been 22 at the time of the 1986 El Paso show.
I've been a fan since since I heard lysol. He has been an influence on my guitar playing for years. I never knew until recently that not only do we share a name but also the same birthday.
I love Buzz. Anytime I see a podcast or interview with him, I listen to it. He's such a smart guy, and Melvins rule!
I concur
i love his jolly chuckle
He can be a proper dick I've heard. But can't we all? 😅

King Buzzo is one of the hardest working musicians in rock.
I think they have a career that a lot of musicians can envy.
not sure what that even means

What a great interview. Most interviews with Buzz lead to Nirvana and Kurt Cobain, and we've heard it all before. This was refreshing.
