he addressed it in a Reddit AMA about 4 years ago, he said Kurt had no desire to hunt small game, or anything else, therefore he bought the shotgun strictly as a suicide tool.
For the record, Melvins are the best band I HAVE EVER SEEN. I Have seen them 20 times since 1994. There are other bands I have seen more than that, but Melvins are the best.
I saw them in 1999 in Athens Georgia while on holiday in the states and...I wandered out half way through. I was that bored. Each to their own i guess. The support band, Melt-Banana where great though, on the upside and the beer was very cheap.
bunny21x you must be easily pleased. I seen them open for faith no more years ago. It might have been fantomas/melvins but regardless they were nothing too special. Faith no more on the other hand could probably be rated up there as one of the best bands I have ever seen.
Nirvana fans got pissed at Buzz because he said Kurt never had stomach pains, that was just a cover up for taking heroin... WHy would he lie about that??? what difference would it make?
I would consider of watching this Video, It`s John, a friend of Kurt and I`ve asked him about Kurts stomach pains and he made a Video ruclips.net/video/Jn0aUk89P_E/видео.html
seriously u trust some random guy on the internet who just admitted that he never had in-depth convos with Kurt over Buzz? the guy who taught him about punk rock? basically his mentor in music, the Melvins played with Nirvana in their first shows, and also to the very last show... umm ok man
Chainsaw Melody Except that he'd seen doctors for the stomach pain, and several people who knew him had seen him doubling over in pain, or not being able to eat or keep food down because of the stomach issue. That's why he was so thin, he had mentioned more than once about not being able to keep food down and that he felt like he was literally starving.
Chainsaw Melody He had the symptoms and had complained about the stomach pains before he'd ever started shooting up heroin. I'm not sure why his friends or especially a doctor, would lie about having witnessed that or treated it. Most people aren't known pathological liars like Courtney, who lies even without an agenda, but just for the hell of it. So I'll believe most people over Courtney.
The Melvins save the lives of at least 13% of their concert patrons. The remainder have conflicting existential analyses due to their regularly scheduled programs. In any curriculum, Pinkus is a boss.
I saw the Melvin's plan Iowa City in the late '90s and Dale played with gardening gloves on his hands and after the show we got to meet him and he gave us some of his garden gloves it was a really small venue called Gabe's Oasis
I bought the Melvins because of the cover art, a two headed animal has to be good. Before social media and internet we made purchases with our gut. So glad I made that purchase.
My first Melvins show was in 1987 in Santa Cruz Ca at UCSC and there were only 25 people there. It was extremely loud and I loved it although the students didn't think much.

I'll always view Soundgarden as the Godfathers of Grunge. Chris Cornell helped Mother Love Bone. Worked with Alice In Chains. And you could almost say he is the founder of Pearl Jam after he did his Temple of the Dog side project which was a tribute album to Andrew Wood. Soundgarden was the only one of the big four Grunge bands on the Sub Pop compilation record.
kurt was called that first, due to his resemblance to the Godfather inthe movies, as well as his guns and his dangerous and shady side , his authoritative boss side, etc. He also brought Grunge to the top in the mainstream first. Later they started calling a few others that . I guess they were the other godfathers since there's always a few godfathers in any mafia.
Yes, but the film is not clear if this is Kurt telling a story he made up, or if he quotes from his diary, so the say. The 'friends' in that clip seem made up. His friends at age 16/17 (I think that's the age he was sort of talking about) were guys like Jesse Reed and Steve Shillinger, and a bit later, when he hang around The Melvins rehearsals, Buzz, Dale, Matt Lukin and Krist Novoselic. Having read 6 or 7 books on Nirvana, these same names keep coming up. Not 'Trevor', 'Darren' or 'Ace'. It appears this was some joke story. He didn't have any friends at high school that he would hang out with, basically being a loner there.
@@raymondhartmeijer9300 they assume everything kurt says is truth lmao you can tell that by the fact they believe he was suicidal and dont take any of it as satirical, it is honestly surprising how these people are so called "nirvana fans"... probably only listened to teen spirit or heart shaped box lol
I saw these guys open for White Zombie in Toronto during the Astro-Creep 2000 tour (1999). I thought they were amazing and have been listening to them ever since.
That montage thing wasn't about Kurt or Nirvana. It was a tacky, self-aggrandizement of the producer. What was the point of those stupid animated sequences? So his childhood could be reduced to some lame anime? The horrible "symphonic" versions of Nirvana songs had me cringing! And all the footage that was never intended to be seen by the public. I don't think the man is resting peacefully at all, everyone is either picking at his bones or just dispensing unending amounts of pity. People hold the subject of Cobain with kids gloves and few are aware of it, as he's above criticism. I'm glad Buzz tells it like it is, it is a shit excuse for a tribute and a worse interpretation of things no one can rightfully confirm. Whether you like Nirvana's music or not, whether you're so juvenile as to call Kurt a "God" or are a dismissive prick, no one can pretend to know him or his life. Had Kurt known what kind of nonsense is being thrown around on a daily basis, he would probably have opted to live!
I was at that opera house show in ‘91. And saw melvins the night before, too, in Buffalo. Prime melvins era, as far as I’m concerned. Buzz had that giant carpeted 4x18 cabinet. Nirvana was awesome, too. About a month before Nevermind was released; Sept ‘91. End of the good days.
I liked Montage of Heck and some of the animation has really stuck with me. Hell no I don't believe Courtney but I do believe Krist and Dave. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in between but none of it affects my thoughts, memories and feelings about Kurt. He was the best and he inspired me to play guitar and he's a legend. Rip Kurt. You are missed and loved.
Don't be so trustful of Krist and Dave. Krist is a big moron centered on himself. Dave's career strongly benefited from Kurt's death, as now there is no Kurt to overshadow him. I really don't like the way Dave is hugging with that Courtney bitch at the induction into Rock-and Hall of Fame - it's really suspicious.
Melvins have such a great comical sense...always make me laugh watching their interviews

Can someone tell me some source of these guys telling specifacally what's wrong with the documentaries and stories about Kurt and what's the truth, please!?
I thought Montage of Heck was beautifully made but so far from reality. I guess calling it an 'art-piece' is the most polite way to explain. His mom telling how she kicked him out as a teen as if it was the right thing to do and then later about how she warned him of fame when she first heard Nevermind. Bob Marley's mom did the same after he was dead. I'm sure in real life they were all like 'get a job' - kicking your teenage child out the home doesn't sound supportive at all
Melvin should have been up there with the top sellers. They up there with Nirvana and AnC as far as musicianship and creativity. I can't believe STP sold more albums. The market doesn't necessarily favor talent
Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam and all those other hair metal bands that turned grunge after the “In Bloom” music video first aired on MTV are intellectually braindead. At the end of the it’s all rock music. The people who listen to jazz, experiemental, and classical music will always have the higher [musical] IQ, but the bands I just mentioned get ripped on because they’re stupid funk-metal jam bands that hopped on the “grunge” bandwagon.
I’ve been to Aberdeen it’s not THAT bad, the hotels on ocean shores are really nice but they’re right in a sense, that outside of the beach there if you actually go into town there really isn’t much of anything. I remember I wanted to get a cable for my laptop and the nearest Best Buy was like an hour and a half drive away.
Americans usually don't know how good they have it, most complain about growing up in a small town not realizing that there are entire COUNTRIES like that. Try living in Helsinki, Finland for a year for example.
Dale Crover! The guy is a fucking legend, one of the best drummers out there! A true Punk! Who better than Buzz and Dale to meet Kurt, they known each other since school days! Buzz introduced Kurt to Punk, pretty badass! if you ask me! Melvins Rulezz \m/ Long live Rock&roll, Peace!
I honestly think the suicide had nothing to do with depression. Krist said kurt was extremely irrational while on heroin, and he had a shit ton of it in his system during the autopsy, which leads me to believe that it was a random, spontaneous thing. Thats just my opinion tho
I've come to be completely convinced he was murdered after believing the suicide narrative for years. Kurt and Courtney's lawyer saying she found the handwriting practice sheets in Courtney's backpack sealed the deal for me. That and the fact he was about to divorce her, and they had a pre-nup (meaning Courtney was going to get squat) as opposed to getting the whole multimillion dollar estate with the "suicide". People have been killed for a helluva lot less than a $50 million dollar net worth. Not to mention Courtney had been screwing the county coroner (among others) who she knew would be in charge of the autopsy. Just too many "cohencidences" for me.
Buzzo shoots straight. Stoner Witch helped shape my musical tastes when I was a kid. I guess it is still the same, whatever sounds good. I have a feeling that instead of reaping the rewards of a killer career, others have borrowed heavily off of The Melvin, shame. What an influence, though. My friend saw Fantômas years back and saw Buzzo winding up cords after the show, said they wanted to save cash by not having any crew to move equipment. I hope Buzz was joking, really. Edit: a word
People like to look at all the "Grunge bands" and highlight their differences. But there is a through line between all those bands, and its aptly named Grunge. It works, and they have something in common

"It's better than the truth anyway"... that means how little we really know about how fucked up his situation had become when he took to killing himself..
Wtf? Youre way off
@@Datanditto oh I am? You mean everything was hunky dory and he just killed himself on a coin toss? Or do you translate this to a 'Soaked in Bleach' thing? Because if you can't see past that speculative mess sold as 'evidence' you are not taking this serious.
@@Overlorddz I dont believe he killed himself.
You can place your sacred cow martyr on the highest pedestal if it makes you happy to think he killed himself. There’s enough evidence to prove foul play but if you, like the paid of detectives want to turn a blind eye to fit your martyr scenario have at.
He was planning to leave her. He was planning to move. He was going to chill for a while. Money grubbing wives and the handlers and machine behind Kirt did not like that.
He had started seeing her ex band mate. They both got dead. Go figure.
But you go ahead with your martyr worship.
So glad to hear someone else talk about how lame Montage of Heck is. Kurt would be proud.
Buzz and Dale literally went to school, and lived in the same towns as Kurt. I’ll believe them any day over a documentary. Love you guys, been a fan since the mid 90s.
Literally? Is it possible to figuratively go to the same school and live in the same town? Either they did or they didn't. Why do people have to include the word 'literally' in every sentence now ?
@@PlayerToBeNamedLater1973 wow, you’re really irritated by this aren’t you. That’s…..interesting. In a figurative sense this time.
@@Pretermit_Sound you're a dim bulb
Krist says the documentary is accurate and he knew Kurt alot better than anyone in the Melvins.
@@scooterruns9355 I know. I’ve read just about everything out there about Kurt and Nirvana. I think the truth is probably somewhere in between. I doubt we’ll ever know for sure. Not the biggest Krist fan anymore after some f the things he’s said and done over the last decade or so, but he still was part of one of the greatest bands in music history, and a lifelong friend to one of the greatest songwriters and lyricists in history. So I don’t entirely know how to feel about all of it. That’s ok though. Not knowing is more interesting sometimes I thinks
Krist Novoselic was just as close with Kurt since highschool and he's never seemed to say anything about the suicide hoax has he? If anyone has anything about it can you link me please?
WaerssLive I feel he personally wants to stay away from the debate
Chad Mulligan Rather he believes it was suicide or murder he has tended to stay away from it. I personally feel she had him plugged
he addressed it in a Reddit AMA about 4 years ago, he said Kurt had no desire to hunt small game, or anything else, therefore he bought the shotgun strictly as a suicide tool.
Chad Mulligan he wasn't poisoned in Rome he OD'd
FishyMM I didn’t know about that
I'll never forget seeing the Melvins open for Primus 1993, St. Louis, MO American Theater...I was 17
Sounds like my wet dream.
"live member Jeff Pinkus"? You realize he wrote some of the songs and played bass on the entire Hold It In record?
+thebloodybrother72 You're right-I changed the description and article to reflect that. Thank you for commenting!
For the record, Melvins are the best band I HAVE EVER SEEN. I Have seen them 20 times since 1994. There are other bands I have seen more than that, but Melvins are the best.
SO good! Did you hear about the 12-sided record Dale put out? exclaim.ca/music/article/the_melvins_dale_crover_releases_worlds_first_12-sided_record
Aggressive Tendencies
Yeah I watched the joyful noise demo. Pretty crazy, I would love to hear the songs in any format. Dale is the fucking best.
and their ticket prices are always so affordable.
I would consider of watching this Video, It`s John, a friend of Kurt and I`ve asked him about Kurts stomach pains and he made a Video ruclips.net/video/Jn0aUk89P_E/видео.html
seriously u trust some random guy on the internet who just admitted that he never had in-depth convos with Kurt over Buzz? the guy who taught him about punk rock? basically his mentor in music, the Melvins played with Nirvana in their first shows, and also to the very last show... umm ok man
The Wedge Maybe Kurt felt comfortable talking with that guy about his pain and not Buzz. Why would this guy lie about what Kurt told him?
Music magazines
houdini is an all time classic, one of my favorite records
The more time that goes on,..the more I love the Melvins
Shout out to Buzz's The Birthday Party t shirt (first Nick Cave band)
My first Melvins show was in 1987 in Santa Cruz Ca at UCSC and there were only 25 people there. It was extremely loud and I loved it although the students didn't think much.
Nice
why do these interviews have to be so short :(
+Golden Nugget Recordings We spoke for a good 35 minutes and it was really hard to cut it down from that! These guys are hilarious and have so much to share.
you should post the whole thing! i mean if you think about it, nobody really watches these because theres a pressing question they need to know the answer to... well ok sometimes but usually its just cause theyre interesting to listen to! you should post a second raw version!
The interview with the Melvins on the Turned Out A Punk podcast is worth checking out.
Peter Cook Thanks for the recommendation. Checking it out now and It's a great listen.
I seen The Melvins open for White Zombie in Toronto and they were both sick. So was Rev Horton Heat. Who else was at that show?
Can't wait for the Mike & the Melvins album!
was anyone here at the parking garage private show in Tacoma early days not sure year, bass drum nailed to stage etc
Take a close look, this is how you look when you come out the other end with your integrity intact.
Only thing is grey hair other then that buzz really doesn’t age and his music is the same way
I'll always view Soundgarden as the Godfathers of Grunge.
Iggy and Lemmy, respect your elders!
Soundgarden?? wtf hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Sub Pop as a whole are all terrible what are you on about
kurt was called that first, due to his resemblance to the Godfather inthe movies, as well as his guns and his dangerous and shady side , his authoritative boss side, etc. He also brought Grunge to the top in the mainstream first. Later they started calling a few others that . I guess they were the other godfathers since there's always a few godfathers in any mafia.
wait he knows Kurt recorded those voice tapes right?
hahaha EXACTLY. That whole sex with a retard was his own words.
This doesn’t add up
Yes, but the film is not clear if this is Kurt telling a story he made up, or if he quotes from his diary, so the say.
Melvins are their own genre for sure...love them
There are sooo many ads to this video...I can no longer focus on it
That montage thing wasn't about Kurt or Nirvana. Had Kurt known what kind of nonsense is being thrown around on a daily basis, he would probably have opted to live!
. This documentary only exploit one side of Cobain
Agreed and well said, I was ultimately disappointed in myself for watching it.
I will admit i do see kurt aka Mr. JesusMan as a god, but thats just my juvenile opinion haha
Hell no I don't believe Courtney but I do believe
Krist and Dave.
Dave was not even in it.

" Uhhh, the heroin and stuff". That was the funniest comedic timing I have ever seen from a rockstar.
Hahaha. Bang on!
"One night we beat up the crowd, not because we wanted to, but because we could...there was only like 3 of 'em"
Melvins have such a great comical sense...always make me laugh watching their interviews
Can someone tell me some source of these guys telling specifacally what's wrong with the documentaries and stories about Kurt and what's the truth, please!?
Idk about Kurt, but I do know Courtney killed any desire I have to own a turquoise guitar. That, THAT is inexcusable
"There's enough bands in tune. There's enough bands with messages."
Melvin’s were one of the most enjoyably painful shows I’ve ever seen!! Became obsessed after seeing them live on a win.
How painful? Loud?
whim? or win? lol

I'm sure in real life they were all like 'get a job' - kicking your teenage child out the home doesn't sound supportive at all
Krist says the documentary is accurate.
Melvin should have been up there with the top sellers. They up there with Nirvana and AnC as far as musicianship and creativity. I can't believe STP sold more albums. The market doesn't necessarily favor talent
You’re right about The Melvins. But you are wrong about STP, they have great songs and are a great rock n roll band, but whatever. To each their own
The market favors looks...Kurt was very talented ..but handsome as well
Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam and all those other hair metal bands that turned grunge after the “In Bloom” music video first aired on MTV are intellectually braindead. At the end of the it’s all rock music. The people who listen to jazz, experiemental, and classical music will always have the higher [musical] IQ, but the bands I just mentioned get ripped on because they’re stupid funk-metal jam bands that hopped on the “grunge” bandwagon.
@sebastianbelcher5354that movement was based almost entirely on what record companies believed was marketable
The fact of the matter, Buzz's review was pretty much spot on!
Speaks the truth. I seen the Melvins at The Eagles hall in Hoquiam. There were 6 people there. Still kicked ass! Even though all we seen was his ass.
Grandfathers of grunge. In the 90's I was constantly trying to find new grunge bands. This one blew me away
Stop with the word Grunge.
Buzz is truly a no bullshit dude....and that laugh....
A legend. Absolute legend.
What’s the name of the song they keep showing?
Buzz's "Montage of Heck" review should be required reading for every Nirvana fan.

I’ve been to Aberdeen it’s not THAT bad, the hotels on ocean shores are really nice but they’re right in a sense, that outside of the beach there if you actually go into town there really isn’t much of anything. Who better than Buzz and Dale to meet Kurt, they known each other since school days! Buzz introduced Kurt to Punk, pretty badass! if you ask me! Melvins Rulezz \m/ Long live Rock&roll, Peace!
The world would be a lot different if the Melvins didn't exist...I don't like to imagine that too long because it's sad.
yeah, so true...!
Smug he was depressed though
Buzzo shoots straight. Stoner Witch helped shape my musical tastes when I was a kid. I guess it is still the same, whatever sounds good.
I have a feeling that instead of reaping the rewards of a killer career, others have borrowed heavily off of The Melvin, shame. What an influence, though. My friend saw Fantômas years back and saw Buzzo winding up cords after the show, said they wanted to save cash by not having any crew to move equipment. I hope Buzz was joking, really.
Edit: a word
DIY after all these years, respect to Buzzo. Kidding or not, no band at that level of influence or tenure HAS to do that, so it's cool that they do.
Man. Stoner witch is a great album. Had it on c.d. in like 96. Found a copy on vinyl 2 years ago. Among my favorites in my collection.
People like to look at all the "Grunge bands" and highlight their differences. But there is a through line between all those bands, and its aptly named Grunge. It works, and they have something in common
The Titanic had a hit, too.
Are they saying he was murdered like those 2 documentaries? I don't know but the second one seems believable.
The headline isn't even the best part of this interview. I loved when they are talking about their lack of messages in Melvins music. 'Animal Rights do hearing damage' thats hilarious!
Love how Buzzo keeps sticking the mic in Jeff's face for no reason.
These guys are funny!
Best dudes
+May Knott "We're very serious about what we're doing even though it's completely unserious" is the perfect summary of this interview. Thanks for watching!
Guys from backgrounds like theirs don't agree to appear on MTV for MTV's benefit unless they have great senses of humour.
When I think of Jeff Pinkus, I think of the interview with Nardwuar from when the Butthole Surfers were in Vancouver with Nirvana at the start of 1994. Love that one.
