- We're back! And back where we belong, too, in a kitchen with dodgy lighting. Time for a new run of five episodes, and our not-so-new problem with slightly insulting the nations of Europe. This time, to the Mediterranean, and to Graham Island.

Did Chris replied it to Tom's 'citation'?
@@CaptainvonDore Yes. Chris is making a cheap joke at whether the citation was needed.

Eh... that's not really in the same style. Tom doesn't use the same word multiple times, he uses multiple rhyming words. So like some ethereal crispy bread to be eaten after a meal of pork. It's post-roast ghost toast. Something like that.
"Kerplode" is not used enough in the English language.
The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was beforehand the Kingdom of Sicily. Then they discovered Graham Island, and they upped the Sicily Count to 2.

Wouldn't the full version be that picture printed onto a small glass used for drinking single measures of spirits? Or something like that? Otherwise it's got too many words and Mr. KingDice's take would be more accurate.

The Cor Anglais and the French Horn are actually distinctly different instruments. In fact, they are such different instruments, they are different types of instruments! The cor anglais is a double-reed woodwind, quite akin to an oboe, while the French Horn is the very long very coiled brass instrument we all know and love.
The proper comparison then would probably be more akin to that of an English horn, and just put the wrong nationality down accidentally.
This was fantastic! There is no such thing as too much "Citation Needed".

Had abdominal surgery the day this was realised. 24 hours later I was brave enough to watch. lt wasn't kind on my stomach but worth it.
I'm a new sub, didn't know about this show, only a minute and a half in and its brilliant
+A Knife You have three series to catch up on! Also they have a podcast on Tom's website.
Peter Smyth I know, just checked it out, cant wait, already on series 1 ep 2

The French call the French Horn the German horn - the Cor Anglais is similar to an Oboe
In quite a lot of the english speaking world they just call it the english horn.
OBOE? Off-by-one-error?
@@shambosaha9727 Nah, if you capitalise OBOE like that it's a radionavigation/blind-bombing system. Which can indeed be used for bombing France.
Well, glad to hear America successfully brought Graham Island freedom.
I really do prefer the more informal style of this series compared to series 3. Good job!.
+william Booth-Clibborn yeah, me too. and since i binge watched all seasons in the last two or three days, i gotta say i liked the camera setting of the first season best. thius from-above-angle just works for me!

This is great. I love this. You know I love this. You requested comments on this on the Park Bench. So here's my comment on this.
+Jihadi Alan In the last park bench video he asked for comments and likes so he knew how popular citation needed was. Which is very.

This is what I signed up for!
I love Citation needed! Happy, that there is an other round ^^
Btw: Who says "Oh yeah" when you do the "Mystery Buiscuit"?
I would also love some subtitles, since sometimes the references are a bit hard to get and looking them up would be easier this way.

Widad Oteh Sadly, Tom has confirmed that he's not a fan of Terry Pratchett.
13:29, I'm trying to decide if this is a deliberate reference to league of extraordinary gentlemen, or if he just didn't know that Shaun Connery had a DB5 shaped boat in that movie.
More of a James Bond reference.
Over on park bench you asked for a comment as to why people signed up. I came over from numberphile and stuck around because of the visual puns.
Oh yeah, my favorite show is back! I call it the I Don't Get What These Guys Are Saying Most Of The Time show!
You guys always seem to have the best of times during these recordings, slightly jealous to be honest. Please keep them coming it's hilarious!
Have you guys ever thought of shooting Citation Needed with a 3D set (like a Ricoh Theta or GoPro's rig)? It might be cool to give viewers the control over who they watch, and potentially offer some bonus funny moments for stuff that's not currently shown. Not to mention far less editing (unless you're running this on a "hangouts"-type system that automatically changes the camera by who's talking).
you most likely know this, but TOTPAL was shot entirely on gopro fusions and tom sticked to editing it manually. they've talked on the park bench that they don't really like 360/3d stuff, it was too much of a mess back when they did that bench and it hasn't gotten any better quite frankly
@@ahreuwu can attest to this, have had work experience editing 4k and 8k 360, and even in 2021 it's a gigantic pain in the arse to deal with.
I've been re-watching the old seasons and listening to podcast on loop far too much recently, so I am ridiculously glad that it's back! And it is everything I dreamed it would be!
Adding my like from the park bench. These are just amazing, I only discovered Citation Needed two weeks ago, and now there is a new series to enjoy!
This is one of my favorite Citation Neededs to date. I'm really looking forward to this season.
Kicking and rolling around laughing from the first minute; so excited for this series being back!!!!
Per your park bench request, yes I absolutely signed up for this.
I found your stuff via Computerphile and thought it was interesting enough to poke around, but TechDiff is what made me subscribe. Of all the things I follow on RUclips, new episodes of this are probably what I look forward to the most. :)
Thanks for getting the guys back together for another series of Citation Needed!!!! Brilliant as ever. This needs to become a weekly show on your channel.

Came back from the park bench to rep for the Citation Needed fans. I subbed to your channel for the 'Things You Might Not Know' shorts, but this panel game is far and away my favourite thing you're involved in, Tom.

Citation Needed, one of the best series on the internet. You guys are amazing.
I'm quite chuffed that this has returned. I've been wearing out the old episodes (including the ancient podcast episodes), so it'll be good to hear some stuff that I haven't already heard several times.
Yes! New season! Can't wait!
And now Thursday's have a reason to be excited for again!
My fave YT series. You and QI bring me such joy!!
this is my new favorite series, how did I not know about this already when I've been following your videos for a while?
It's back! best series ever Tom
@Tom Scott: About the whole bombing thing, wouldn't this island be a good location to visit for "things you might not know" and check it out? (although i guess that would be quite an expensive one)
Don't think Tom's done an underwater one yet!
I get so stoked when I come back and find that you guys are back for another season :-D
Calling in from the park bench, I don't recall what I subbed to this channel for in particular, but everything on it is consistently worth my time to watch, and this is no exception, so I stay.
Pretty funny. A temporary (or maybe erstwhile?) island. I imagine a gain-hungry explorer spotting it. Seeing it's not already on a map. Rowing gleefully over to it. Sticking the flagpole in...which pokes a hole. Water comes thru, it starts to sink. He looks up (at the camera in my imagined video). "Oh bugger". And it sinks. Cue gurgly, bubbly sound fx...and a sad trombone.
Only lasted one year? So...one season, then it was cancelled?
Tom: it wasn't "comprised of" anything. It was comPOSED of x. Or x comprised it.
I'm from Morocco and I am offended.
Good for you. You managed to be offended by a show which, you should understand out of context, is 4 guys sitting around a table playing comedians. Good for you.

+Jacob Thomas I think you just took the bait, mon ami.
Doesn't mean you're right.
Oscar Brogden I'm feeding my pet troll.
I love this. It is hilarious! It cheers me up and then keeps me cheerful until the following week when there's another episode! It's brilliant!
And the season begins as the last one ended, with Chris knowing mostly everything.
On a side note, great to see more of this, I know it's hard getting busy people together to do stuff. Good job, and keep 'em coming.

Did not watch this yet, but I already clicked on like. I've been hooked since season 3 and later went on and binge-watched all the old ones. Later on, I also downloaded a bunch of the audios of the technical difficulties show with the trivia questions.
I have very much been waiting for this. Thanks!

just watched the park bench about bleeping stuff out. this (this episode of citation needed) is exactly what I signed up for, please make more of these, make as many as you can make funny. I must've spent an hour on a wikipedia rabbit trail after looking up Grahams Island
This is amazing. Keep doing this. It's nice to see you guys have fun with facts and generally look like you're having fun doing this.
As a non-native speaker, I always find this show very hard to follow

For all those who this is the first Citation Needed video. I'd like to welcome you. My husband and I love watching Tom Scott and crew. (yes thats what we're calling them) If you've not seen the crazyness of Tom's channel, you might find you learn something. It's tons of fun, please hang around and enjoy. (so the monkey will keep making videos for us!)
I forgot how much I love this show. So excited for the new episodes!!
YAY! New season! I subscribed to your channel because of the "Things You Might Not Have Known" videos, and had not watched any TechDif videos until the last season uploaded, and I loved it. I have since watched every Citation Needed at least 4 times and I'm happy for some new content. I hope you guys keep making new seasons even though they may not be as popular as some other video series.
I keep telling my friends to watch because as I tell them its "Pure Comedy Gold!" You have a book nerd (Chris Joel), a popular events/people nerd (Gary Brannan), a technology nerd (Tom Scott), and the Master of Pun (Matt Gary) and Wikipedia! Its just brilliant. You guys have amazing comedic timing and great improv.
Thanks for the great laughs, and please please please keep it up.

Coming here from the park bench 😊 i've watched citation needed before and love it. Even though i don't get all the references in it, the ones I do get are brilliant. I really love the 'prize' at the end of the videos, makes me laugh every time 😀 keep up the good work guys 😊
I watched this, thumbed it up, and meandered my way along the RUclips rabbit hole into the Matt and Tom park bench videos. In the most recent, you asked for a comment here, so this is that comment. I found this channel quite some time ago through Computerphile, and always look forward to the mental caffeine drip of things I might not have known, technology, language, travel, all wonderful. However, it's Citation Needed that brings me back more than anything else. As strange as it is to feel a sense of friendship with people I've never met, or even communicated with, these videos provide that. Citation Needed brings to the channel a warmth, and wit and genuineness, where I'm not just entertained by the content (as I always am with these videos) but where for a portion of an hour I can vicariously enjoy good people having a good time. On an unrelated note as long as I'm commenting, that Morse code 'boobs' video was hilarious, just the sort of nerdy nonsense I'd have signed on for when I was younger. :-)
I always enjoy It when Gary's spidersense for a real-facts-answer goes off 4:35
This series is awesome! Cracks me up every time, please please please, never stop this!
Love how after watching the video on the park bench about swearing, we have this video, which is full of it (more than usual for Citation Needed, I would think).
Glad to see it back - this is amongst the things for which I subscribed!
