    Another little tip is, instead of dragging the columns to change their widths, you can place your mouse right on the column separator and double-click. It will automatically change width to show all the data in the column.

    Disclaimer: I’ve retired for almost 7 years as an Office Administrator. I forgot lots more than I realized, but when my husband and I wanted to keep track of food prices this video helped me create an Excel sheet on my Mac and have it on my iPhone to check when I was in the grocery store. I’m pleased with myself that I created an Excel spreadsheet but this video helped a lot. Ty.

    NOT for true beginners, I am 56 and just learning how to use a computer and Microsoft. I did learn some things but way to advanced to keep up. I worked on it for about 2 hours, following (and backing up and pausing many times) before I gave up at absolutes. Great for people with more experience

    Hi Gary. Thank you for so many great videos throughout the year. I wanted to ask about using a hard drive for Time Machine with my MacBook. I have tried using an external disk drive but it’s cumbersome since it’s not always connected to the MacBook. What would you suggest in order to have Time Machine doing back ups all the time.

    One other tip that became a habit for me because of losing information: I always save my file periodically. You don't want to spend all that time on a file and there's a system issue or you lose your internet connection (believe me, for those of us that work at home, this happens more than I like!). I typically save it right after typing a title and then save periodically throughout working on it.

    • @philippfolkerts6120
      @philippfolkerts6120 2 года назад

      Good advice! I assumed that auto-save was enabled by default as with almost any other Mac app, but this doesn't seem to be the case if your Excel file is stored locally (i.e. NOT on OneDrive or SharePoint)😕

    Looking for some help. Attempting to create a small stopwatch seconds
    counter {Counting up, not down.) inside an existing spreadsheet. Three buttons: Start - Stop - Reset. I've added the "Developer" tab in the menu bar, but I'm at a dead end. ~ Thanks ~

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 года назад

      You are trying to do that in Excel? I haven't explored any features of Excel that will let you do something like that. Why use Excel to do it? It doesn't seem like the right app. Get a stopwatch app instead. Or use the one on your phone.

    Hello Gary, I hope you are doing well. In many cases, when I try to open Excel Documents that I created in Windows, I get an error message telling me that the file will only open in read only because it contains things that are not supported in this Mac version. It refers to Active X. Whatever that is. I use Office 365 to which I subscribe to. Any suggestions because I can’t figure out what ActiveX content is in this regular math Excel document. Just so you know, the file does open without error messages when I use my iPad Pro M1.
