      Gameplay purposes. Also, in a close quarter combat situation in darkness/low light environments, having your opponent shining a bright light straight in your eyes is a huge disadvantage since you're temporarily blinded. Perhaps that's one of the uses of his flashlights, to blind his foes when needed. If you have played Halo Wars 2, you probably remember Jerome using said tactic, turning his lights on before fighting Banished brutes in a dark room. If my memory serves me correctly, the MJOLNIR helmets (or the ones fitted with cameras) can record stuff for intel gathering purposes, so a bright source of light is required; otherwise, the footages they get would be pitch black. In addition, our eyes need time to adjust to brightness or darkness. I don't think Chief (or any soldier) would have that luxury in combat to wait for his pupils to dilate/undilate, hence the lights.

      Agree 100%. I actually like Spartan 3 program more then 2’s. Just like there is a certain minimum level of augmentation required to out preform a elite, there is also a necessary quantity of those quality soldiers needed to compete with the covenant army. If you can only produce single digit production percentages of Spartans compared to the covenant‘s quality elites, hunters, and brutes soldier production; your going to loose the war. Hence why I appreciate the Spartan 3’s quantity and quality! The bonus is it opens up new ways of using Spartans for the necessary self sacrifice missions that otherwise would of been too expensive to even be viable long term.
      Plus being developed by being kidnapped to fight your own people trying to break free from Orwellian State control is, in my opinion, a less cool vibe. Way cooler to be a part of a elite Spartan program with the numbers to make a difference in the war, from a pool of orphans looking to inflict vicious vengeance upon the covenant.
      Now was it perfect? No the augmentations still required a minority of the human population to be genetically comparable but did it succeed in their goals.
      More quantity then Spartan 2 ✅
      More cheap then Spartan 2 ✅
      For most anti-covenant purposes, just as good as Spartan 2s; doing all this wile being forced to use by necessity inferior quality equipment but on a value Analysis they made the most of it. ✅
      Note: Later Spartan programs were able to seemingly acheive more mass production but that technology was not matured enough in time during the Human Covenent war. They needed more Spartans yesterday during that war so the Spartan 3 program was nesciary stop gap. 3s armor may have lacked energy shields but if did have active camo which is a much wiser choice for budgeting, spec ops and espionage. And in my opinion the later generations of Spartans that have mass production don’t have as cool of a backstory. So for me 3s are a nice middle ground. Cool backstory. Making a lot with less. Necisary sacrifices. With numbers to try to make a difference.

      @wastelesslearning1245 Год назад +14

      @@NoodleswithADHD yes they have photo reactive plating that made them have discount active camouflage. Super based IMO. Energy shields have limits but you can’t hit what can’t see. You can’t even fight what you don’t notice. More survivable to stealth past Beam Rifle Jackals then go in visibly guns blazing. Most Spartan 2’s didn’t active camo at the time so mass producing it for the 3s would have been a huge deal. Even still some Spartan 3s like Noble team got energy shielded Spartan 2 armor but ,for the most part, majority made due without.

    That’s without diving into Headhunters and Gamma Company Spartans. I still do hope 343 keep some mystery around this class of Spartans though, while tying up the loose ends I mentioned, because it is perfect for creating our own Spartans, myself having a few that I created with backgrounds and portfolios.

    My take when it comes to comparing "out of suit" capabilities of S2 and S3 is that S3's are capable of what the people running the S2 program expected the S2 augmentations to achieve. In the book "Fall of Reach" i believe there is a part after the augmentation where Mendez and Halsey are observing a training exercise where two instructors were fighting against blue team. The instructors were in early gen tethered power armor and Halsey was susprised at how fast, agile and powerful the Spartans were. The theory there being that their genetics not only allowed them to survive the procedures as was expected, but synergized with them and allowed for greater then expected results.
    S3 augmentations were broad scope enough that they didn't need that exact of a physical match to qualify and thus the augmentations, now improved and with a higher chance of success, could be much widely applied. But the results were the EXPECTED results of S2's not the bonus synergy results. This also means that there is a small subset of S3's that by chance have the genetics to also synergize with their augmentations and be, for all intents and purposes, on par with an S2. The player character of Reach comes to mind, there are also headhunters and maybe a few other special cases.
    This of course ignoring the "illegal bonus" Gamma company got which would give them an edge over S2's in an extreme situation. But no free lunches, comes with a massive downside.

    Not to be a pedant, but I'm pretty sure Tom and Lucy were from Beta company and were the sole survivors of Operation: TORPEDO, rather than Alpha's Company's successful but ultimately ill-fated Operation: PROMETHEUS.
    Edit: Now that I've finished the video, I've got a couple of questions.
    1. A while back, you made a video comparing the Spartan generations and noted that IIIs are, in fact, somewhat weaker and slower, based on known feats. While I can buy that many of the physical disparities will disappear with time, one thing I'm curious about is the Spartan neurological augmentations. You seemed to think that S-IIs are in a league of their own here, and IIIs and IVs, while significantly faster than human baseline, are still not quite there. The thing balancing out the Spartan generations is ultimately the Spartan Neural Interface and MJOLNIR, which bypass the central nervous system and most of the differences in physical strength. How much of that information would you say is still up to date?
    2. While I was watching you discuss the illegal neurological Gamma-specific modifications, I found my thoughts turning to additional advancements made in Project ORCHID for the Spartan-IVs, and your belief that many of the new generation-specific augmentations were retroactively applied to prior Spartan generations. Wouldn't it be possible to create an artificial organ, or modify an existing one to perhaps produce the chemicals required to counteract the negative effects of the Gamma neurological augs, or are they perhaps too reliant on specific ingredients to do this, even with the UNSC's impressive bioengineering technology? I figured if they could make a Spartan breathe methane or get efficient nutritional value out of a tree trunk, this isn't a massive leap, but maybe I'm wrong?

Then a major focus on multiple S4s learning and reacting to the factual information and feats of the prior generations. Close up on "What does being a Spartan mean to you? What IS a Spartan?"

    I’m other words spartan 2’s and 3’s were very comparable to each other and the only reason it is perceived that the 3’s are smaller and weaker is because they died so damned fast. Had many of them lived longer they would have eventually been equal size to the Spartan 2’s because the Spartan 3’s were injected with a catalytic compound that did everything that the original augments did for Spartan 2’s but over a longer period of time instead of an immediate boost that the Spartans would later have to adjust to like with the CAT 2 Spartans. I other words 2’s and 3’s were not as different as people seem to think but because most Spartan 3’s didn’t survive very long after aug they never fully developed cuz most 3’s were still very young in comparison and still had plenty of time to grow into the arguments they were given but never got the chance cuz they had a war to fight.

    I think you get into slippery fiction territory if you start accepting "the technology just got better and this cheaper, mass producible approach is better"
    The Spartan 2's should always be fundamentally superior or it trivializes the lengths gone to to create them, not to mention from a time scale perspective they are getting past their sell by date anyways, no harm in letting them have the crown while they last.
    Spartan 3's were an attempt to mass produce that cut corners but still had that high bar mark, goals were mostly achieved but with personality disorders and a kind of rampancy. It would be awfully strange if your cost cutting approach was better, let alone achieved first try.
    Spartan 4's are Wall Mart mass produced and 343 should keep that in mind, maintain a serious professionalism but they are just augmented special forces, they need to lack that sharpness, scale and honestly I wouldnt mind if they kept the Halo 4 armour just to differentiate them.
    It's all a balancing act and when your story telling starts slipping into "newer" = "better" you start losing what makes stuff interesting

    • @jasonzaragoza9413
      @jasonzaragoza9413 Год назад

      the cut corner approach mostly applies to the armor though, which has been stated to be ridiculously expensive to produce, (of course then you have 343 who just disregard that fact and produce hundreds of armor sets for the 4s lol). unarmored, a Spartan II and III are near identical in skill; the IIIs having the better training while the IIs have the decades of experience. They'd have been better off just producing MJOLNIR armor for the 300+ remaining Spartan IIIs than developing a whole new (and far inferior) program.

    You forgot to mention Hazel-A302 and Owen-B096 being pulled from their companies.

    I personally think it would be interesting for you to do a video on some of the lore on some species of halo like a dedicated video for the unggoy or sangheili

    I love the 2s, but the 3s imo are peak Spartans. Highly underrated, dying in droves but still committing to the mission no matter what the cost. Spartan 2s are heroes but to me the 3s are legends

    I heard that Spartan 3's armor were weaker compare to Spartan 2' s because they cost about as much as a frigate. Is this accurate?

    The mainstream misconception about spartan 3 height is probably reach. Jorge, the only spartan 2, towered over everyone else.

    Spartan 3s were always my favorites they are the 'disturbed' uncles unlike the Proud Dads that are the Spartan ll's. Spartan 3s like everyone during the warn made huge sacrifices but most of their sacrifices go unsung or unknown which really sucks. If Microsoft and 343 could've hit off better with the Spartan franchise we could've had alot of other spin offs like reach of sad but very important suicide missions or even developing frontier lore of spartan 3s abandoned still out there continuing the fight.
    It reminds me very much of If you never played halo wars than you wouldn't know how other Spartans, AIs beside cortana, and officers saved humanity and crippled the covenant. You'll only know what you played from the game, and then there is more to even be said in the books XD.

    Even the books are inconsistent about this. Veta said they were less augmented during her first meeting with the pelican crew in Divine Wind.
