    Brought my 3rd Rhodie pup home, sat down on the couch to eat lunch. In the blink of an eye, the sandwich I was holding had a shark bite out of it, and pup washed it down with a nice big slurp out of my beverage. Rhodie pup #5 used to bounce up to counter height, because she was so excited that her food was being prepared.

    My RR puppy is now 5 years old…I read and researched this breed for 7 years before I got my Aslan…I still wasn’t prepared for my first big, male dog. I love him so very much, but I guarantee that he’s done more for me than I have for him…I wish that I could give him that time back. He’s an amazing companion and protector to me…I will always love this Rhodesian Ridgeback breed above all other breeds!!! 🙏💙

    I got my ridgeback not knowing what breed she was till she was like 8 months. I think as long as you have had dogs before you’ll be fine. She was highly trainable extremely smart and willing to learn. She is the most loving and sweet dog. Great with other dogs and great with company. She’s the best dog I’ve ever owned. I got her on accident but If I ever get another dog after her I will be getting another ridgeback.

    Very very helpful. I adopted my puppy at 4 1/2 months. They called her a "Shepard mix" but she is mostly RR we believe. I think she was born without the ridge, so the entire litter was dropped off for adoption. I've been watching your and others' videos and am convinced she's at least a good percentage RR. She is an amazing puppy!! Signing her up for training now. I love your enthusiasm and passion for this breed and dogs in general. I'm already learning a lot! I previously had a Rottie mix that I also adopted at about 6 months, but failed to socialize so he was so loving with family but not with anyone else and he was a big boy at 125 lbs. I don't want to make any mistakes with Cinder. Thank you so much from California, USA.

    I rescued a dog today who was listed as a boxer mix... he is deffinitly part ridge back and isn't really food motivated. We are researching and ready for the up hill battle since he is 5 months old. (Already toilet trained so that's great)

    1988. Drive 3 hours to get a Ridgie pup after only 24 hours consideration. Didn't know squat about the breed. Potty training was easy! Boundaries was a whole different ballgame!!!! LOL Named her Marilla. She grew into 150 pounds of the sweetest and best dog! Great breed... worth every bit of effort that goes into properly training them.

    So here's my question haha, I have a 7 month old boy and I want him to grow up with ridgebacks like I did, any chance you guys would do a video that explains how to manage puppies and babies at the same time. I see a lot of content that talks about introducing one newborn baby to a puppy/young dog that was already on the scene before the baby. What I want to know is, what's the deal with getting a ridgeback pup with a 1 year old child... many seem to think it's wiser to wait a few years for the child to grow up (say age 4 or 5) before getting a puppy. Your feedback or even a video on babies and puppies would be epic! Thanks again for the great content so far!

    Looking for advice - had our 12 week old ridgeback for about 3-4 weeks now and we exercise and train her well but she gets aggressive play before bed - nipping and biting and our corrections only seem to escalate her. It doesn’t seem like aggression and more like pushing her boundaries and “challenging...” I’ve tried everything down to the dog whisperer “touch” and even tried getting her to submit but nothing works. Should I just give the verbal correction and walk away? I’ve raised dogs all my life but never had this issue...

    I love your videos and though i was as prepared as well as one could be for my RR puppy. We take her out every hour on the hour, after each meal, after her naps. At night also 3-4 times. We pick her up and take her out. But she somehow refuses to pee outdoors, no matter how long we stay outside. Then the moment we get back in she relaxes and pees on the floor. Sometimes she even pees while chasing after a toy. It almost seems she's still not in control of her bladder. Is there anything we can do or just try to keep up the routine and be patient? Thanks!

    Funny(not) my most recent RR girl (5th RR) was insane with housebreaking. took her out eight to ten times a day, and she peed in the house the same amount. I was beside myself. I was doing everything right and she just defied all efforts. She would even poop and pee in her large crate and lie in it! After she was about 6-7 months old she finally stopped doing stuff in the house. then at about a year + old she started telling me when she needed to go out if I wasn't paying attention.

    • @apteryx7080
      @apteryx7080 2 года назад

      i read that you should not give your pup a large crate. give them enough space to lie down, so that if they toilet in the crate, they have no choice but to lie in it . I started out with a large crate, with a big box in the back so the space was reduced.
      he pooped in there only one time.

    Really good instructions and the reason why you should do all these things😍👍 I have been a RR owner the last 6,5 years (until he passed away unfortunately in blood cancer last week🥹). I remember i watched instruction videos from you and your colleagues back then and it helped me enormously!! So before we take home a new RR puppy I will definitely re-watch these videos again to remind how and why is important 😊👍🙏

    I am so curious about table scraps and snacks. Should we give human treats and share food? If ever, when is it okay to not hurt their behaviour?

    • @Donutdove
      @Donutdove 3 года назад

      I personally wouldn’t. A lot of the time it can lead to begging or them not liking dog food, not to say dogs can’t b picky just bc they’re picky but I don’t think it would help. I personally never have done it and my dogs leave me alone. I’m not a trainer but probably not.

    You say toilet break every hour, what about at night? Should I be waking up every hour and waking her up to take her out or just wait until she cries.. or is that too late? Unsure on nights..

    They are wonderful dogs. But they also have a mind of their own, they will stop and think, wrinkled for head, looking at you, weighing it in, if they will do whatever the command is.

    The guy knows Ridgebacks.
    I not sure his communication is well enough for a new Ridgeback owner.
    He says a plan.
    I break this down. You need to be consistent.
    Feeding time and,walking times ,training times they have built in clock..
    They are sight hound , scent hound and very good at sounds.
    They are not a dog you can throw outside to entertain the themselves
    It’s a lot of work to train this hard headed beast that can drag a very big man down the street.
    A 2 year old needs at least 1 mile fast walks twice a day.
    All ,even pups need exercise.Not good at fetching,unless it is rabbit. They will catch one.
    Best breed I have ever had. That said. If you don’t have several hours a day to devote to this wonderful dog,
    You and the dog will not be happy. That’s why so many get rescued.

    Would it not be easier to think before you got the dog anyway also if you need to think that you should not have one anyway dogs need you to know what you're doing first Also you you don't need to do all that dogs come home and you love them that's most important not a load of gobbledegook making it harder than it should be you've not said anything yet I'm still waiting got something constructive
