"When he was a puppy, it was okay." That's a clue, friends. Don't let your puppy get away with anything you don't want an adult dog to do. Ridgebacks are FANTASTIC dogs--I had a friend with one and he was magnificent and sweet. But they absolutely need discipline and training.
Absolutely! When I got my Boxer I knew she would be big when grown. So I started with a zero tolerance for jumping up on people. It didn’t require any unkindness, just steady training. I also raised, along with my parents a deaf Australian Shepherd. I was 13 when we found him . He was completely deaf, but he learned manners really easily.
@@lilolmecjwhat sort of training did you employ to reduce jumping on people
@@Jasmine-se7bs turning my back and ignoring her every time. First I would gently take her paws and return them to the floor and say no. If she jumped again I would turn around and ignore her. She actually learned really fast. My daughter has a half Great Pyrenees/ Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd. She is huge, and it works in the moment but she has taken forever to extinguish it completely. But they do quickly understand they are not getting the positive feedback they seek. Remember that while trying to stop undesirable behavior to make sure to give lots of positive reinforcement when they do what you want. And the most important thing I ever learned about dogs, do five minutes of training every day. Not every training session has to involve food, giving scratches and words works too. My personal preference is a mix of treats and vigorous pets while maniacally saying love treats in my just for dogs voice.
This brings to mind the Biden family's two undisciplined, untrained German Shepherds that bit Secret Service agents 24 times.
@@lilolmecjI think they let her go with a lot of behavior because she has a disability. They didn't chastise her. They didn't make her feel bad about who she is as a dog. They worked with her disability to help her to understand. She didn't want to be a bad doggy. Everybody wants what they want. It's not wrong to want. It's wrong of the owner is not to have been clear with what is acceptable, and what is not.
I was raised around dogs, by a mom who could train a dog to literally do anything she required. She had two rules for dogs: 1) Never have a working dog for a pet. Thats not to say working breeds cant make good pets; it means they require TRAINING to be a PET. And 2) you are the boss, not the dog. If you dont establish control, the dog will. Training begins the day the pup comes home, not six months later when you have to bring a specialist in. My mom also had another saying: you can have a baby by accident, but you have to go get a dog. That meant you dont get a dog until you are ready to be responsible for one.
💕
❤👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 point blank period! Everyone thinks because I have a sweet Mastiff it's like the dogs just come like that but no! If I didn't train my Corso we would have a dangerous dog on our hands and it wouldn't end up nice for either us or the dog in the end
Everything that is undesirable is nibbed in the bud when it occurs this how I ended up with a sweet family dog not because the dog is naturally inclined to do that without any leadership
Aw they love him very much 💕 I'm glad they got help from Victoria so they didn't have to make the terrible choice of getting rid of him. He is very darling.
Victoria did amazing job to help family with two dog but every youtube she help every family members dog 👏
These are good owners, they're just dealing with an unusual case. Deaf dogs can be trained just as easily as hearing ones, by using hand signals and other techniques.
I think they ran into issues when they learned he couldn’t hear their cues. I love it when the owners accept that they were to ones with the bad behavior, and they listen to what Victoria tells them to do.
I could tell the pup owners loved him just that because he couldn't hear was the big issue. Victoria helped them be better at communicating with him what he needs to do. Thank you Victoria and also to his owners knowing they needed help with there wonderful pup.
This family did amazing and staying calm with the process. I really appreciate this family. Not only that, the dogs are gorgeous.
These people are super dedicated! Amazing job 🧡🧡
I don’t think so victoria is the one that did amazing job not that family member they do a horrible job letting their both dog biting them even if one is deaf of hearing that their both dog owner didn’t correct their both dog to do it properly but those two dog had a history of biting habit but this time victoria fix this bad biting habit for good
See another youtube video that small dog bite that girl arm and see she should of never hold and touch that small dog and he should not to rub and smooch that small dog let it sniff at their hand first before touching small dog but
if that didn’t happen that small dog will bite that girl’s arm and snapping at him what a clueless that family is and they should of giving that small dog it’s personal space
I have an RR and he can hear. Their prey drive is really hard to train, so keep it up family. My puppy is doing great with hand signals.
Ya I’ve had 2 ridgebacks and they’re great dogs but very very stubborn. They’re very food motivated, my last one was more food obsessed than my lab. You just have to be very firm with them and continue training them.
Totally. @@Lemonade_Stand_
Dogs are so smart, even when they're deaf. Bless his heart... And they LOVE food!!!
Or have other health issues
That frown and soulful eyes, it speaks to the soul!
It's amazing what discipline and dog training can do.
its amazing to me that people don't train their dogs
Because that family didn’t correct those two dogs properly but to bite the family that is why two dogs is biting them both but good thing is victoria can do way better but that family has to think twice before to pet those two dogs or getting bitten by two dogs
I had one when I was a little girl. I loved her! Sue brought me many good memories when I was 4, 5, & 6 years old. I wasn’t mean to her, I laid on her, played, I was taught not to pull or put my face in her face. My Daddy said he gave her to a lady he knew, but as I’ve grown older, I think she was probably bitten by a snake and died. I’m now 67, daddy’s soon to be 92, and he still sticks to his story. Funny how we always remember our first dogs.
key thing, its never ok not as a pup never. what you teach early on and with consistency they will learn much better
He might be deaf but somehow his comedic timing is spot on; “Don’t give up on him yet.” Then, seemingly right on cue, the dog jumps up on the table sticking his butt in Victoria’s face! 😂😂😂
Been waiting for more episodes!
lol same
Why everybody keep saying “weight up to 38 kg!” ?? They are not! Mine is 40 kg at 9 months of age!! Some of them reach up to 60! 38 seems pretty small…
I love Victoria's techniques of "firm but fair" & kind. I always start my dogs w/ hand signals AND voice--they don't speak English (yet), their language is body language. If I had a tail I'd wag it for Victoria!
"No, that's enough" and lets the dog keep biting her.
Exactly they don’t know how to stop the misbehaving dog even if dog is deaf and victoria save this family keeping two dogs from jumping on the family and even mouthing which is a bite
These people are special!
Love seeing good, loving owners who just need guidance in a situation they're unfamiliar with. Lovely couple, and the sweetest pup
The dog should be out on a farm with alot of areas to run. These dogs are known to be able to handle 110 temperature hot sun and hours of exercise. Probably not a house dog . Originally bred to hunt lions 🦁
I'm surprised that Victoria didn't tell them to get the dog neutered. That definitely is a factor as well!
He’s too young. Vets recommend waiting until they’re fully grown these days.
Fantastic owners, loved them!
This goes under the heading of : that damn dog! What a MOOSE!
Y'all never did train that dad from 8 weeks old...very sad
Great job Victoria and bravo ❤❤😊😊
Are they planning to neuter the dog?
Bravo, Floyd! And dog parents!
13:05 is it just me ?or does the ridge of fur on his back look like a shovel?😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes they call it the crown
Huh ? My best friend has Rhodesian ridgeback sweet and gooffy dog . He brother has one also a large male just very quiet and pretty chill big though 135lbs-140lbs dog . No aggression for either
Tbh, my arm was like the lady owner when my GR was still in a Raptor stage😅..
He is so cute and adorable dog ❤❤❤❤
Floyd is beautiful and clever!
My mini schauzers 5 yo and 3 yo respectively, have not been allowed to jump up since they were 5 lb puppies at 8 weeks, bc we knew we would be having kids and they could hurt, or knock them over. Now they're 20 and 22 lbs, and so my 18 mo son and 3.5 yo daughter, have never been knocked over. The dogs are allowed on our sofas. But never in bed. Etc.
0:56 They need to neutered both dogs to make them less aggressive.
Neutering alone doesn't fix every problem. That's like only giving pills to someone who has clinical depression.
He's still a growing pup. Anymore they won't neuter or spay a dog until the growth plates have closed. The bigger the dog the older they are when the growth plates close.
Great job Victoria❤❤❤
Great video!
mine is 4years old and shes 51kgs, quite tall for a female thu
This is not even close to attacking.
Any reason why this dog is not neutered? Would that help?
He's still a growing pup. Anymore they wait until the growth plates have closed. The bigger the dog the older they are when the growth plates close.
a new episode :D
Bit of a click bait title. He didn’t attack anyone just a deaf, loving dog
And an overgrown mouthy pup at that. 😄
Its wierd she says, "oh let him sniff me" whem she well knows he can sniff her from the second he came outsode, especially if he is deaf, he doesn't need to be closer than 3 feet to sniff her.
@nvs514 Your point? Dogs come right up to one another for proper greetings. They do not sniff one another from 3 feet away and then carry on with their business.
Good point for sure.
I guess it just struck me as unecessary because the dog didn't seem to be showing any signs he wanted to approach her more, in fact, you can kinda see the owners have to urge him to come over to her. His problems with lack of inhibition mean that the interaction might have caused more arousal. I just don't like how much this show is just creating more shock and awe instead of setting the dog up for success but, it's TV, and I'm still here watching it 😅
He is deaf he can't hear that's the problem he is a great dog
mrs victoria stilwell i have a question *raises hand*
my staffordshire english bulldog mx(even though hes turning 8 years old this year still has the "energy levels of a young adolescent dog" he mouths and play bites me.. but "he only rough houses with me,cause its bond we have.." everyone else he doesnt do that too..
should i continue to encourage roughhouse to burn off any excess energy he has kept up with?
I Love Rhodesian Ridgeback ❤❤ who is banned in India Last Month😢😢😢😢
This is not really showing him no by giving him something because he is going go back to do what he was doing the first time because they cant Insert authority. You shouldn't have put up gate and give Him treats every time
I would like to say my dog is deaf but he can hear me whistle across the yard while he hind the house and if I scream my husband still wouldn’t hear me
How come these participants never have baby gates in their homes to give timeouts? Easiest solution ever to bad behaviors that is the quickest solution to stopping bad behaviors.
I’ve never had a dog respond to giving timeouts, it doesn’t teach them anything because they don’t think like people do. If a dog finds joy in a bad behavior it’s going to keep doing that unless the owner makes it not enjoyable for the dog anymore or gives it something more enjoyable to redirect them. A dog isn’t going to sit in timeout and think about what it’s done, they aren’t kids.
@@katelynncheyanne2937At a certain point too it’s gonna be useless anyways, cuz like. A baby gate is meant to stop babies, toddlers and perhaps small children who would rely on their hands to let them out.
What do you suppose a 38 kg dog that was meant to track and help hunt LIONS AND BEARS is gonna do to a baby gate 😂 If anything they’ll see it as part of the game. Unless you have a high tech security baby gate meant to block off small fully grown adults it won’t be any use
My neighbors Rhodesian was 140lbs dog large male NO baby gate for him lol 😂
@@Kim-J312 h-holy loving crap that doggo genuinely weighs a whole 20kg more than me. That’s almost half my weight on top of my weight. That’s heavier than the average woman globally 😂 It must be such a majestic doggo!
I have a German shepherd that jumps them like they’re not there. They really don’t always work 😂
One rotten little Rhody. Omg.
They don’t have pounds in England?😂
Gesh that family has a really bad luck both is so bad see not to pet the both dog but victoria can do all of training misbehaving dog that family is really lucky enough that victoria did it way better then that family that can’t do nothing and without her that family won’t doing anything well but bite the family and that dog can’t hear nothing 😳😵
Um,😐 of course he would stop going for the food on the table and go to his owner. He couldn’t get to the food on the table & his owner was just giving him treats every time he went the other way.
And also Deaf dogs aren’t disabled & shouldn’t be pitted for it. All dogs are born deaf & blind. With just the nose working. This is not new to them. Dogs work nose, eyes, then ears. But these & most people go ears, eyes, nose. Then they found out he was deaf and instead of treating him like a dog. They went eyes, nose.
😣 😩 Why do people treat dogs like people when they aren’t. Dogs have a different way of communicating to each other and us and it’s mostly silent.
these dogs need exercise n that house looks too small
Once again, no training. Not the dog’s fault. “No! Stop!” is not training.
This was unusual case. These people have had RRs for years now with no trouble. The problem was Floyd was deaf and they didn't know how to communicate with him in order to be able to train him. What worked on their other RRs was not working with him. I wouldn't blame the owners here.
Too much dog for these older folks. I heard someone say You should never get a dog you can't whoop. Good advice.
If that were the case, NOBODY would have dogs like giant livestock breeds,Corso, presa, most other guardian breeds like Rottweiler, doberman & even little pitbulls... As long as you know what you're doing, you can handle any dog.
AWFUL advice. I have grown up with both dogs and horses, and imho both of them react pretty similarily to training. (same with cats and donkeys lol). But I trained my Leonberger like I did with my horse, and she was a wonderfull dog. Dogs want to be good, and they want to be a part of the family. As a pet parent you just need patience and learning their style of communications. I never, had to get physical with that dog - and that was 65-70kg of dog, and a full head taller than me. The only time she needed to be held back or held down was at the vets, or if there was someone swimming nearby. As I didn't do water training with her due to my own stupidity, and so she was dangerous to swimmers. (imagine a huge dog, with claws half the size of your thumb, trying to "rescue" swimmers by climbing on top of them)
There is some truth, as an older petite woman I would probably not take on another Boxwe. I got my last one at 50 and she was a handful to train. And realistically at the end of her life I barely had enough strength to provide the assistance she needed. Doesn’t help we live in a two story house. I will be considering those things if I get another doggo.
humans fault even u and and u tooo yes u
Mom i want to break up with elijahs friebds abd Ryan's rhebocks abd friebds avd race
Ronnie and Reggie? Maybe don’t name your dogs after thugs.
Im a farmer in south africa i own a ridgeback dog they are meant to live in the bush they natural guardians they need to have enough exercise and training what on earth is this family doing keeping ridgbacks u cant keep them in a small yard they need space plenty of space you need space come on you ridiculous keeping these dogs in a small little place get real
This woman is absolutely useless, but I do love Ridgebacks.
Letting a puppy get away with bad behavior because it's a cute puppy is pure disaster in waiting.
Establishing you are alpha and training and setting boundaries starts the day you bring the puppy home.
Otherwise you get a mess like this dog.
If you don't know how to train then do some research and learning before getting a dog.
Training good behavior into a dog is a million times easier than training bad behavior out of a dog
Give me 5 minutes. My Lou (Pit Bull) used to try this whole jumping on me thing. Grab the Tounge or the Lower Jaw and pinch it. "Nien"
Sounds cruel. And this dog is deaf.
@@sarachristman16only sounds cruel if you aren't familiar with correcting dogs that can be "dangerous" If the dog can't hear, touch & leash pressure are the next best thing! Dog will fully understanding the corrections. As long as u know what you're doing.
clueless dog owners need human training how to handle dogs
They've had RRs before with no issues. This one was a special case since he was deaf. Their normal methods, which worked on the other dogs, were not going to work on him since he couldn't hear.
