    Our Ridgeback was super confident being left home on her own. She passed a couple of years back and I still miss seeing her huge head watching us come home from the window

    Getting a Rhodesian Ridgeback in 3 weeks! Doing as much research as I can before picking him up :)

      Congrats, I recommend getting them comfortable in the car or another room while they see or hear you from the window so it'll a gentle separation to start.

      You leaved her/him 8 hours per day,right? I really want RR but i have school 8 hours a day. I'm ready to give him 1 hour of exercise before i leave him,and as much i can (or he needs) after i come home. Would it be ok?
      Thx for answer!

    Totally agree with your advice !! Did that with my 2 wonderful RRs and they were such amazing dogs!! They were totally balanced and happy!! I had to test them for very short periods of time at first to see where they were at in their development and at first, they were able to do a lot of damage in 20-30 minutes ! Lol!! But after, a few months worth of attempts, they were perfect !! I’d say that 2 years old is usually when they start being ‘’responsible adults’’ lol!!

    This is so good to hear. I’m a college student with one year left before graduation, and I really want a ridgeback. I’ll never have this much time to devote to a dog again after I graduate, but I was worried about the dog after I start working. I think if I take this final year and really have some intensive training, my one year old pup will be ok with me going to work for 8 hours a day, so long as he gets his exercise when I get home or before I leave

    We have a 1-year old RR, she is great!
    She is fearless, independent, friendly and she loves socializing with other dogs. I do recommend to find RR group near your neighborhood to start with socializing skills. My dog learns a lot from the grown up RRs.

    Adopted an RR 3 months ago. We love him to death. Vet said he is about 2-3yrs old. Wife and I both work. Found an awesome doggie day care. He is socialized all day long, except for meal time, with other dogs his size or bigger. He Has a couple Great Dane friends at daycare. Takes him about 30-45 minutes to bring himself down after daycare. At about 830-9pm he is ready for bed, wants nothing to with the world but sleep. He sleeps thru the night perfectly. We use his kennel/crate for bed time or if we have to leave without him for short periods of time only.

    The amount of time you leave your ridgback alone means they'll be that more aggressive to find out what you've been up to. don't be surprised if they try to knock you down if you ignore them getting home after a whole day at work... but after that they're real easy if you own them

    I have a 14 yr old Rhodie X Dalmation . I rescued her aged 2 . Her previous owner was a single mum who got left with her after a family breakdown & despite trying could not afford/give her the time needed. . She wrote me a wonderfull letter about her quirks and likes/dislikes . Luckily I managed to get her trained in the nick of time . And aside from her simply not liking small animals or loud noises . She has been a great house dog with my kids and the neighbourhood kids who all adore her. Now then ... in her late years her seperation anxiety has spiked big time .. so much so she howls if i so much nip to the store just across the street. And when I get back she reacts as if I have been gone hours. She also so I thought became disobedient with me having to give simple commands like sit , heel, here, wait & no several times . I admit it took a few weeks for the penny to drop she maybe a bit deaf now bless her. Its the seperation anxiety that is worrying me now. I know the old saying cant teach an old dog new tricks .. but I wonder what else I can do . Luckily my boss lets her ride with me .. but there are times she has to be left alone for a couple of hours ... I have even had snotty notes from next door posted thro my letter box.. granted they are ocean going weapons grade arseholes.. but its only been the past 6 months they have started moaning ... Any ideas on how to control seperation anxiety in an elderly hound ?

      @@fenrirridgebackshow1743 Are 52 year old men allowed on Instagram lol ? I will get my daughter to set one up for me. No doubt she will be horrified. But any way . I am away in the truck this week & kiddo #2 is dog sitting . She reckons Whip has been fine .. no whining or howling.. unlike other times I been away. I for one cant wait til Thursday when I get home ... but I bet you 100% I will get no reaction & she will just mooch off with the hump... Talking about my Whippa & not #2 btw lol.

    Mine was fine staying at home by herself but if I took her to a friend's house to stay overnight she wasn't very happy. But I did have separation anxiety when I took her to doggie day care for a few hours. She was so amazing I could not stand to be away from her.

    Hi. I work outside the home 3 days a week. I have a RR that is under two. He’s a great dog but when left out he is chewing things he shouldn’t. He has a house full of toys but is still choosing to chew on things he shouldn’t. Is it ok to keep him in the crate for up to 8.5 hours?

    • @fenrirridgebackshow1743
      @fenrirridgebackshow1743  2 года назад +1

      Hey Holly, thanks for watching! We'd recommend crate training but for that length of time having someone come over to let him out for a walk in the middle of the day. Alternatively, a doggy day care could be a great option too 😊
