I agree with everything said here. I inherited a young female Ridgeback who has received very little training. It's an enormous struggle but progress is being made with the help of your videos. She's so strong she's difficult for me to manage - the pulling puts her and me at risk. It's one step forward and two back on most days. My goodness she's strong willed but I'm determined with the skills I've learned here.

First I love love love your videos and it has helped us so freaking much but this one there seem to be a lot of repeating in the obvious until we get to the end I had to forward all the way to the end to find out how

I trained my dogs, to walk on leash with only positive reinforcements and an auditory negative command with a hand sign. It took so long, but I had no experience training, and was scared to hurt them because I didn't know what I was doing with physical corrections. Also because they were rescues, and our first dog showed signs of possible trama responses. Specifically relating to sticks and any loud noise, but in particular clapping your hands or slapping your leg.
Wait, there was a physical correction. I use a harness, and would do a small quick pull toward me if she stared to pull. Hmmm, I guess I found a physical correction method that worked for us unintentionally. It was just my instinctive immediate action, I guess well done me.

Some ridgebacks cannot be restrained, when they see a cat, squirrel or plastic bag going down the street. I've had 6 Rhodies, 3 were good on lead, 3 were impossible...

Great video, thanks! What is your opinion about e collars? I have seen few videos of very obedient ridgebacks, but they are all wearing an e collar. I am not so sure about it, is it harmful to the dog and if you train it with e collar can you ever trust your dog without it?

Are slip leads an appropriate tool for a Ridgeback, or is that more of a negative reinforcement?
