They certainly have their strengths. They aren't infallible, but they certainly have merit.

You two are the BEST! I'm a newbie when it comes to Corvettes. I have had F-bodies where you have to drop the tank or cut a hatch to get to the fuel pump, and was under the impression that I was in for a long frustrating day, or an expensive trip to the GM dealer. I was so happy when I seen how to remove the fuel pump from a C4 Vette. I can't thank you enough for posting this vid, you have saved me time, money, and frustration. I am now confident that I can do this myself.

To put in my two cents (Brian's internet is down for a few more days), it did not cause any problems to have all of those on the same mechanism It came out very easily and the wiring was straight forward.

GREAT!! Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to get around the crossing strap, but Thank You for showing how to do it, or rather that you actually 'have' to do it to get the filter out. But you got good confidence to get that accomplished. It's just me, so I hope to be able to get this accomplished.

Brian I have a 91 Vette ..once I thought I may have had a bad fuel pump, so I disconnected the lines and turned the power on ... I then went to the tank and it was pouring out of the line I knew the pump was good ! ( yes I did that out side )

Some systems don't have them- like on Chrysler vehicles such as the Town and Country Mini Vans. (which have been plagued with problems directly related to the in tank feedback or filter feedback design.) The idea is to have flow which enables variances in fuel consumption to be readily adapted to, It's like a spillway on a dam. No matter the variance in the volume of the inlet- the reservoir remains the same level, but in this case it's the pressure and available volume that remains.

Grandfather clause' help. Knowing the codes and abiding by them helps too. You'll notice my house is no spring chicken it was built back in 1957 before there were zoning laws. Being a good neighbor helps a lot as well. When I bought my place it was dilapidated, rodent infested and an eyesore to the neighborhood. Since I've owned it- it's much, much nicer and a boon to the neighborhood. I bought the place because it enabled be to do this.

I'm under all my vehicles for DIY, but I get get rather cloister phobic under the vette. Not a lot of jacking points for stands and jacks. Great service you two are doing😎😎😎

BEST SHOW ON RUclips!Followed your procedures-replaced filter but didn't help. Pump comes on but goes off right away. Cold start gets it going-but it stops. Strainer a little dirty. Not bad. Blockage after pre-cats-any ideas?

  • @briansmobile1

My hypothesis was wrong here. It was a bad pump with an intermittent failure pattern. Those intermittent issues are pretty tough to diagnose.

Wicked tiny o rings on the filter, people, should have extra when changing the filter if they drop one. And the thing the pump sits on works ! Very noisy without that black rubber support donut. I had a 94 ' vette coupe,,but no garage, when it rained it wouldn't start to easy as the humidity got into the spark system in front of the water pump, what's it called ? Optics park ? Anyway, nice work as always. Happy gobble gobble day !

Im working on a 89 with the same problem. The rubber boot on the fuel pump melted inside the tank and was sucked up in side the line .I dont think it made it passed the fuel pump assembly. The fuel filter was clean. My question is what s the little round cup at the top of the assembly. It has a line connected to it also I cant blow into it. could that have clogged is it important

Great Video! The assembly is the same for my 88 35th Anniversary.. I'm having a problem disconnecting the clip that connects the fuel pump.Did you use a special tool to pull up the little grey clip and then pull it apart. (I'm heavy handed and do not want to break any hard plastic electrical connections inside the tank ( I hate those clips especially when they get old and brittle) Any recommendations? Thanks.. Also, thanks Spanky for asking the questions

Awesome thanks for the video. It seems really easy to do a fuel pump on 90's vettes but does it cause any problems having the pump/sending unit/ and filler in the same mechanism? Are vettes known for bad fuel pumps? Sorry for all the ?'s I'm just inquisative. Thanks

Brian do you work on more than one Corvette regularly? I recall seeing one or two others, but it was probably the same car and I'm imagining things.
I love seeing oddball fixes like this...Not that a fuel filter is an odd thing to change, I mean that I'll probably only see a handful of these in my lifetime so it's pretty nice to know what to expect when the time comes.

Check for corrosion on the positive side. It shouldn't fail due to a lock out or security issue. I've serviced many 2011 Nissans and didn't have that issue. That #@$n battery/fuse thing however has been a problem on almost every single one I've worked on.

Quick question: is it easier to just loosen the cross-strap by the fuel filter or do you need to loosen the cross-strap where it mounts on the right side there by the filter and also loosen the bolts where it criss-crosses with the other cross-strap? I guess it might be better said: if I loosen the bolts where it mounts by the filter will it drops enough to get your wrench and hand in there to get the old filter out?

Brian, a friend has an early 90's beat-up GM truck 5.0/5.7 TBI and the 2 injectors aren't spraying, i can check the pulse with a test light? I noticed he has 4 previously cut, poorly connected wires running to the injectors, i was thinking of soldering the wires 1st for him then check the pulse? Connect the test light to battery ground and probe so it should come on and off? it has a new fuel pump, i say 5/5.7 as he had the 350 installed, just want to be sure before he replaces module

There's a vacuum cylinder coming in on the left side pump assembly looking at it before removing. That small canister has a round plastic tube and spring inside it. What is its purpose and what does it do? It's more to the top of my 90 vetted vacuum I'm thinking and will it affect the running part of the car?
