You get used to it!! I find it easier to cook on a large scale!! We had 4 biological kids and countless foster kids over the years! I also ran my own daycare… so cooking large came easy to me… Now, we’ve been married 35 years in June, I’m 54, my husband is 64 and we’re empty nesters, just a few months into our empty nest! … and I am finding it more difficult to cook small. I can’t do it. I’ve tried, over and over and over!! I still cook big 😂❤🤷🏻♀️….. even when trying to cook little…. I can’t shop little either!! When you have done it one way and one way only, for over 30ish years (it of course took 5-10 years to grow a big family) its nearly impossible to do it any different!! So now, I still cook big… I have my kids come and get left overs and I freeze a lot of the meals too… we also eat the same meal for 3-5 nights straight (of course I’ll jazz it up with different veggies or salads)….❤️💕🙏🏼

I'm finding it hard to not make bushels of food... or ordering too much delivery or grocery shopping & overstocking too!🤣.... force of habit! 🤷.. it's better to have too much, than not enough,..👍 right!! ... You should make party potatoes with those diced potatoes…some call them funeral potatoes but you add cream of chicken soup, sour cream, onion, butter, salt (or lawrys seasoning salt) pepper and crush corn flakes with melted butter to put on the top for the last 15-20 of baking and o m g 🤤🤪 we make them every year for Xmas and Easter also baked beans ~ cooking bacon then sautéing onion in the bacon grease adding dark brown sugar, a dab of mustard & ketchup and whatever seasonings you prefer (we do garlic and onion powder on pretty much everything) and bake both the beans and potatoes for 45 min at 350

I like Strata.. a breakfast casserole that's mostly the same as this but uses dried bread instead of potatoes.. best part is it can be mixed up the night before and cooked in the morning. Also good cold
This is NOT healthy! All that animal fat, eggs with cholesterol, starch in the potatoes and grease! And let's not get into the saturated fat in the cheeses!

I would much rather see a breakfast, like this than what some of the other larger families do, which is basically a mass of simple, sugary carbs, and no nutrition

I would half the recipe since I only have a family of seven And I can pretty much guarantee that would get eaten within the same day between breakfast and lunch first and second helpings people always think it looks like so much food and it is I guess if you’re cooking for one or two people but even for a family of four or five if you want to have a second serving or leftovers you know sometimes later in the evening, you go back for more kind of thing or if you have teenage boys, it seems like you can never cook enough. I’m always trying to cook enough so that we have leftovers so maybe I can have some for lunch at work the next day or the kids can have some. no matter how big I make my recipes. It’s really difficult for me to overcook. lol so I can’t imagine with a family your size it’s gotta be impossible, especially with holidays. That’s a big one because when you make holiday meals sort of the whole appeal is to have leftovers of all that stuff and not have to cook every meal for a couple of days and be able to relax and eat the foods that you made, but that’s gotta be a lot of cooking man 😂 I know last time I made chili. I used 5 pounds of ground beef. I don’t remember. I think it was like seven or eight cans of beans and then plus everything else that goes in there the tomatoes, tomato paste sauce, corn, onions, and I thought this is going to be a lot, because my crockpot was literally filled to the freaking brim and it was just me three of the kids and two of them had friends over for the night and that entire crockpot full was gone before lunchtime the next day I mean, it was really good, but think about that for a minute
OMG.. her one meal is 2 months of groceries for me!!!! I'm from a family of 10 so I know what it took to feed us. Back then it was $300 for a van full of groceries at the commissary on base. Can't imagine what their monthly budget is.😊
Me either....looks like white pepper is milder than black...so I'm assuming it's a preference and a taste thing....I'd just skip it but Heather's recipes do call for white and black pepper at times....,so if you want to try and experiment...Go for it😄😄😄😄😄... Let us know 💚💚💚
@@t.g.7231 I wouldn't say it's more mild in flavor. Just a different flavor profile all together. Doesn't really have a spice to it, at least for my taste buds. Mostly adds a strong earthy taste.

I would make this, but use one kind of meat and add in peppers and onions. Maybe chopped spinach or kale? Very hearty!
