This is one of the first uniforms we see, and it really sets the tone for what we see from the rebels, small band, but still uniform, it’s a great view of the reveal of the alliance!
Always made little sense to me that rebels use these. Alderaanian consular security at the start of ANH makes sense. They're traveling under the guise of a diplomatic Alderaanian mission and are probably part of actual Alderaan security. BUT if the alliance is actually openly using that uniform too, denyability gets significantly reduced. It's not hard to put together that Alderaan is supporting the Alliance (which might not be hard anyway) but more importantly it's super easy to prove. My theory on why so many rebels use it, always was that they source their training an equipment through Alderaan. The planet's security force offers a legitimate way to aquire both. They ought to have their instructors and experienced personell as well as a supply chain for gear.
My guess on the variation of the Rebel Fleet Trooper in Rogue One is that they are Military Police or Shore Patrol. The extra markings on the helmet and the armband seem like a direct reference to those real world troops and seamen.
Well done Video, my only complaint would be the number of 501st Legion Photos used for a Rebel Legion costume ;) This was actually my first costume I made when I helped form the Rebel Legion. It is certainly a fun, comfortable costume, good for getting your feet wet in Star Wars Costuming. I look forward to your Rebel Pilot Video, as that was the costume I really put a lot of effort and time into, plus one I wore most.
Can you do the clone trooper's camouflage used by the 212th Attack Battalion of the 2nd battle of Geonosis? It is by far my favorite combat armor of the G.A.R.
thing about the rebels is they had no standardized uniforms, instead they were like the traditional organization of the old republic guard where each planet had their own uniform, and organizational structure. Those were not "Rebel Troopers" as much as they were Aldaran Security forces, which later become a standard rebel uniform after its destruction while they still had other uniforms depending on the environment to include the Hoth Garrison and the Commandos sent to Endor.
FYI It's Occluded Eye Gunsight (OEG) not "articulated". The one shown (and apparently used as a model) is an Armson model, one the first "red dot" sights in general use.
Thank you so much for this video! I've been making my own star wars costumes for years now and I've been researching the Fleet Trooper for some time. This is by far the most concise and helpful video I have found so far!
The DH-17s used in Rogue One is also a different model because there is a Magazine on the side similar to the E-11; rather than the no-mag version clearly seen in A New Hope.
Next time you cover Star Wars, make sure to investigate that little Legends/Canon box on Wookiepedia. This will show the different histories of the item in question in the two different universes. This one didn't have much in the way of discrepancies, but for example, the name "Alderaanian Consular Security" and the uniform variant seen on Yavin both come from Rogue One, which exists exclusively in Canon. So what you can do is just preface that part of the video with "In Canon..." so everyone knows which universe we're talking about. If you dig a little further through the Legends page, you'll probably find something interesting you might have otherwise missed, because of the sheer size of the classic EU. Happy researching
Please do a video on the most effective camos made and the research done on the subject. Your research is extensive and videos extremely well done. Thanks
@Uniform History Great videos! Always enjoy watching and learning🤙 You think you could cover the clone trooper fatigues? The red tunics that we see them wearing in Attack of the clones and Clone cadets on Kamino. The ones Fives and Tup are wearing in season 6 and the blue ones seen worn by young Boba.
YAAAY!! STAR WARS!! Thank you! If you ever do Imperial Officer and First Order Officer, they look to be based on both German Officer uniforms and Imperial Japanese Officer uniforms combined with space theme.
I loved the FT from the first time I seen them, I desided to do a costume at one point which is how I ended up joining the 501st. Mine was not exactly 100% screen accurate but I wasn't going for that. You can see it in my profile photo, the helmet colour I got from a screen used one, the helmet itself is from Studio Creations it has a smoked visor so both types can be made.
NICE! I have a complete Fleet Trooper costume (Original Trilogy helmet) with DH17 blaster etc..It cost me with shipping for each item, around $400. But Dang it, it was worth it! I wear it for Halloween and my annual trip to Boston Comic Con with my 2 young daughters who make their own cosplay costumes from scratch.
@@PartTimeJedi Very cool my whole outfit came in around $500 the helmet was the most expensive. I now of course belong to the 501st as a Tie Pilot but want to get approved for the RL. We have a much lorger Imperial group here in B.C. Canada then the RL one. I do still wear the FT during certain events we do as well. It's cool your kids take an interest in costuming as well, we have a few who younglings that take part in our events as well. Would love to see your costume as well.
This video is a little old and probably not the right place to ask, but it would be cool to see a video on Generation Kill. Unlike the other HBO mini docu/war drama series it didn't really have the luxury of time to get the uniforms/gear correct. So it would be kind of cool to see a video see what they were able to get right while working so closely to the conflict they were depicting. Generation Kill is one of my favorite because it tries to give the band of brothers/pacific treatment to extremely recent events. I'd also love to see that same treatment given to other conflicts. Maybe Korea or Nam to really round out the HBO american war library and bridge the gap. Though I'd love it with basically any conflict doesn't need to be an American conflict either.
This doesn't relate directly to your video, but it just occurred to me while watching that those troopers who were taken as POW's were probably imprisoned on the Death Star when Alderaan was destroyed. And they also were probably killed when the Death Star was destroyed. Really unfortunate way to end up.
I think it’s implied when Vader says to “send a distress signal, informing all aboard were killed” that they were all meant to be liquidated at some point, although they kept Leia for interrogation. She was the most important intelligence asset to keep alive at that point.
So… The Us Space Force has its first general. What do you think the work and dress uniforms will look like for officers and enlisted? The bars badges, ranks, patches, piping, etc. Also, what will the camo pattern be; a night sky?
Hi I've really enjoyed your channel and was wondering if you might do a Doom Movie with Karl Urban Uniform Episode. Keep up to the good work and hope to see more episodes.

The helmet looks like an american experimental Sun helmet (also called Coolie helmet) from the 1950s. The helmet was meant to be used in tropical or desert environments.
As the voiceover said, it's a modified USN gunners' helmet. I recognise it every time I see old Pacific WWII footage and Pacific war movies like Tora! Tora! Tora!
Basically with an older helmet you couldn't actually use the communications equipment So you were a radioman that either had to pick using their helmet or using communication equipment
To be honest the TKs (stormtroopers) are quite envious of how mobile rebel troopers are at events. Stormtroopers can't sit down because of how their armor is arranged.

Small, but still a disciplined force. A good start for a rebellion

The Rebel Legion thanks you for making this video. It is incredibly useful to anyone looking to create a Rebel Fleet Trooper.

The boots are mostly early West German jackboots. They also were used for the imperial officers
Hope we get a video of the newer Austrian army camo or Czech Republic.
which Star Wars film is that from?
5:22 Dude I think you need to watch that Sesame Street clip with Jack Black, that is not a hexagon...
He probably doesn't stop at red hexagons either . . .
Shit, I was thinking hexagon too before he even said it. Guess I'm not the only one who needs to brush up on their geometry
You absolutely have to do a video on the many MANY uniforms of the Galactic Empire.
Thank you for this video this is my favorite uniform in Star wars, it's so simple yet so unique

Finally, you did a star wars uniform vid 😃
There is a channel all about uniforms, and I have never even heard of him? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN IN MY LIFE
The Grey Troop trousers are British Tropical cut trousers found in DPM from the early 1970's.
Can we see some 1984 Red Dawn Soviet gear? One of the best accounts on RUclips.
The guns are going to be HEEELLLLLLLLLLL... the Ak’s are Egyptian ones. Their “RPK” lmg’s are Finnish m76’s, their “DSHK” HMG’s are m60’s.

Cant wait for Stargate
Same! I'm waiting for Stargate since the first episode of uniforms of the screen. I mean, it's literally the first picture in the intro reel.
When I was a kid The Rebel Fleet Troopers where my favorite character!
Yeah, the uniforms were basic and recognizable.
I’m not really interested in making any of these, at the moment anyway, but this video is so helpful and well made! Great vid and well researched
The DH-17s used in Rogue One is also a different model because there is a Magazine on the side similar to the E-11; rather than the no-mag version clearly seen in A New Hope.
“2020 is looking real interesting” famous last words lol
For the next group of Rebels you do you gotta do the Rebel Marines like on Scarif in Rogue One.

DH-17 is based on the BSA Machine Carbine prototype that competed with the Sterling SMGs in the Royal Army Trials.
*Sterling
No
Only the barrel, the back half is still a Sterling L2A3. The grip, receiver, and trigger assembly give it away.
I'm not really a cosplayer in the least, but I'm about to paint a full squad of minis of these guys, and this is great reference! Thanks!
My favorite uniform of the whole Series.

This should be the default skin of all rebel troopers and they should give the Pathfinder gear to a rebel commando

For the foreseeable future they'll just be using Air Force uniforms. It'll be a fair number of years before they get a uniform of their own.
They'll use whatever the USAF wears but with different patches
