Oh my god! You have noooooo idea how hard I have been trying to find the simplest way to do Pattern grading without having to buy expensive books! Thanks Nick! ♥️
Hey Nick! I wish you read this. You make learning so easy and fun, you are so adorable. Grading was a pain all these years of my practice but you made it so easy. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. God bless! Lots of love😙😙😙😙😙
Hi bee shah! Thank you for your comment here! I TOTALLY understand how grading was a pain for you...it was a pain FOR ME!!! I remember being a student in my grading class thinking "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OR WHY I'M DOING THIS!!!" So, yes, I hope I made it slightly more understandable ;)
Hi Sir you are really amazing.I did go to fashion institute but I never felt that I have everything clear but from few months since I have started watching your videos which make me feel so energetic and now I got back my confident that o yeahh i could make nice dress as you are teaching us thanks alot sir from the core of my heart.
Hi Nick, I am just a rough and ready dress maker from South Africa who was taught by my mother from young. So I love watching a real fashion designer at work, sharing all these fantastic tips and tricks. Thank you so very much!! Aletta
Thanks Nick. I'm going to grade a 1980 coat pattern I bought and practise it on some second hand fabric I bought for a couple of dollars. But it s the puzzle piecing i call it that I love figuring out as I learn to read patterns and sew. Happy sewing!
I saw my seniors did their grading and they looked stressed over it. And look what i found.... THIS VIDEO MIGHT SAVE ME IN THE NEAR FUTURE THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you Mr Nick for being such a good teacher. You have helped me to upgrade so much! Not only in my pattern grading but also in my skills as a whole .I'm greatful and I love you
Thanks, Nick! I just recently bought my dress form and my son and I have been enjoying your videos, they make draping and drafting patterns accessible to many who don't have access to courses where they live, or the budget for them just now. Your timing was perfect, I have been making my first draped bodice and I now need to be able to grade the pattern I make from it and this video will help me do it.
Thank you for this brilliantly simplified instructions. I'm a beginner sewer, I was just about to give up on this pattern because I realised that the European sizes are much smaller than the South African ones and I bought the wrong size pattern and needed to learn how to grade so I could make this dress Ive been meaning to since 2020. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
love it! I hated grading at Tech ... you make it look fun! LOL Thankyou for your videos , they are so informative , fast and clear. You have inspired me to pull out my machines
Well... I had to to tell you, Nick, I love you! I watched you first in Project Runway. You are all rolled into one: a great person, a talented designer, and a-fun-to-watch fashion enthusiast. Thank you for your tips & tricks!
Thanks so much Nick, the way that you did this was the easiest and simplest way of explaining that I understood, that I found on youtube so far and I am so grateful.
Fantastic! Finally a method I understand. I've watched hours of grading videos and have been totally lost. Thanks so much for sharing this technique. This is why your the bomb! 😍
I found this video in the Nick of time. Looool I have a grading book, and I’m questioning if I even really know how to read. I’ve lit’rally just needed a verbal simplification and you were very simple and to the point. Thank you!
Thank you! Is there any way you could do another video grading plus sizes? Or does it change very much beyond size 14? Is it still 1/8 at the top and shoulder for plus sizes?
You are so sweet dear Nick, this is for a long time that I want to know how to grade the pattern, your trick is my tresure now, thank you so much!!! Merci beaucoup et gros gros bisous mon cher Nick!!
I am amazed at what I have learned from your videos! Thank you so much. I especially love this grading video. This has opened a whole new world to me. I can't wait to go look through my older to small patterns!!
This is AMAZING. Especially the other video you have on grading patterned sleeves. Is there a book on custom fitting you recommend? I am trying to get better at it, beyond the basic tricks.
Great video, easy to understand. So if I want to grade a large pattern to make it smaller I guess I should reverse this process, right? Love your channel and your personality, Nick!!!!
This is amazing. Im just a beginner and also learning thru youtube and free patterns but my daughter's size is always not that standard size given by the patter. I like it that it is easy just up 1/8, down 1/8; out 1/4... Thank you so much!
I hated grading class at Los Angeles trade tech college but I’m glad your video is refreshing my memory lol. I would’ve rather had you for my teacher :)
This is great! easy and very well explained. Sorry, I got some of questions, is it the same for woven and knit fabrics? what about pants and skirts?... pants and skirts could be another video I guess... right? txs a lot!
This is very useful! I have struggled to grade my patterns I'm making when I make them multiple sizes on one paper. You mentioned thar once you reach size 14 you do half inch on ea side. Do I double the amount on shoulders and armhole as well, like 2/8th instead of 1/8th? I have a basic top with a horizontal bist dart and also vertical dart. How do I grade that ?
I'm literally turning into a fashion designer because of Nick! Hopefully you come out with a pattern grading book where we can read and study it very clear.
QUESTION: If i wanted to skip the hassle of going size by size and just grade up to the size that I needed (ex. Start at a size 4 and go up to an 8) WOULD I JUST ADD THOSE INCREMENTS TOGETHER AND FOLLOW YOUR GUIDELINE? (ex. Size 4 to 8 so 1/8" (4 to 6) + 1/8" (6 to 8)= 1/4" down from shoulder line & 1/4" out from shoulder point)?
Thanks so much. I was given some vintage patterns that only have 1 size to them but haven’t sewn them because they aren’t my size. I think I will try grading them now. Thanks again. :)
For people outside of US: 1/8 = 3mm, 1/4 = 6mm
Petra Jirkalová thanks 🙏
🙏🙏Very useful
I love you so much right now
Thank you.
This was extremely beneficial
Oh my god! You have noooooo idea how hard I have been trying to find the simplest way to do Pattern grading without having to buy expensive books! Thanks Nick! ♥️
