I like the way you did your drape, it was easier. I was taught the old way of draping a pant pattern in school. You took the fear of draping pants out of the equation for me in that you showed me that it's 1part flat patterning and 1part drape. I have a size 10 full body dress form that I bought over 6 years ago. Thank you. Christmas is coming and I love those scissors. I probably couldn't afford them but they would make a wonderful gift to me.😁😂 11/20/2018 and I just tried following this tutorial and for my measurements of my dress form it didn't work but it gave me a better reference point of how to do a pant pattern. I should have used the 12 inch thigh measurement. I will not have to go back to the drawing board. Thank you sir
So that is how to form pants, fabric straight down, then fit the rest. I can't take my eyes off of that beautiful green top with black pants and gold waistline to the left. The red one is also beautiful with black hair. You are so professional, thank you Nick.
I love everything you do, is perfect. I want to follow yours step. I dont care I just turn 62. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life that Gos allows me to live. Thanks for your unique stile, I love it.
Simply excellent Nick! With my new pant form, this technique will be so easy to do. I have such difficulty when buying ready-to-wear pants because I am on the small size with non-standard measurements. I can't wait to finally sew up a pair of perfectly fitting pants. Really appreciate all the work you have put into this video!
Nick, you are adorable and talented. You have a unique ability to communicate and teach complicated fashion design concepts in an unparalleled comprehensive, fun and loving style. I have learned more from you that from all academia and haute coutour courses. I am starting my couture business, and I believe I owe you a THANK YOU VERY MUCH. PD: I am ordering your book right now on Amazon. Wishing you all the good you deserve for sharing your talent, sincerely I remain, your follower.
Nick, you're so amazing. just when I thought you hadn't more to offer me, you threw me off with exciting tutorial plus your new book. I will sure get one for myself. After all it's Nick and it special. Thanks Nick.
Say this every time but God you’re adorable! Anyway my husband bought me your book for Christmas...it was SOOOOOO FAB! What an adventure! So...the draping...I’ve just learned loads! Thank you so much! 😊
This is awesome! Thank-you so VERY much! I have just ordered my first full body form and want to learn the art of draping. Your videos are so fun and very clear and easy to understand for someone like myself who is new to draping. May I please make a request? I would love to see you do videos about adding wearable ease to your drapes for tops and especially for pants. I am having quite a difficult time "wrapping my head around" this topic, and it would be so great to see you do it. Lots of love your way, I am such a fan! I am always left inspired after your lessons, and I have planned my very first drape to be a cowl blouse, based on your cowl top lesson! I have the muslin and fabric ready and waiting for my form to arrive!!! :) Jennifer.
Your lessons are AMAZING!!! Thank you 'sew' much! I've been watching another fitting type show, she's also has a show on Create channel, for several years. I've watch 3 of your videos and learned much more from you in 30 minutes than I've learned from her in years. The first one was how to add to my dress form. I was sitting here thinking "Now why didn't I think of THAT!" I finally made a pair of pants yesterday that I draped myself, legs are perfect, from crotch up to waist too tight and too short. My dress form does not have the legs and I don't have anyone to help with the pinning and draping. I'm a very odd shape, very odd! Large waist and mid-section, tiny legs and butt. I hate for my pants to be too big in the crotch! I've never owned a pair of jeans, they don't fit even though I've lost 120 pounds. Current wt 135. I'm also shrinking, from 5'2" down to 4'9.5" due to osteoporosis and 2 back surgeries. Anyway, to my question, how can I drape with out the dress form and with out good help? I would love to be able to wear a pair of jeans! Everyone comments on how I dress up all the time, (I do LOVE to dress up!) but I'd like to make a pair of jeans!
Debbie Durham I understand your struggle, I’m having the same issue... large waist and tummy, flat bottom and very small thighs and legs!!! It’s been a nightmare trying to buy or make pants!!! Please let me know if you found an answer. I would greatly appreciate it!!! Thank you
Nick, If you could do a short video of a fly insertion it would help many of us tremendously. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to watching already. 😘 BTW, loved you on ‘Project Runway’. Best show ever.
Truely brilliant - took some of the 'mystery' out of draping. Any suggestions for the current style of tapered/ relaxed mens with pleats? I am so glad skinny & straight are on their way out but not sure how to do a full/ heavy forward pleat of 4+ inches on mine and think I might have to widen out at the top to allow for an exaggerated pleat but not sure. With thanks from the UK
I'm loving your lessons , you are the best Vos vidéos sont super instructives , vous expliquez très sympathiquement , votre bonne humeur me fascine Merci pour tous ce que m apprenez Nick😘 Sandra de paris
Michaela Buttigieg ...I not trying to tell you what to do, but if you subscribe to any video including Nick’s, then open subscriptions for any of those you follow, it will bring you to all recent videos they have posted. Just want u to find what u need. Sorry if you know what I am suggesting to u and you already know this. Love Nick’s vids. They are the easiest to follow and relate too. Miss project runway, it was the best.
I LOOOVVVVEEE the clothes at the back! 😱😍 Now I'm gonna DIY a lower part of mannequin. This really helped me because made pants before and it's a total fail. I want to see you sew it.
Nick. I love your classes. I wish I knew someone to help drape me for great fitting patterns. I am a heavy Cuevas IOU’s gal w a swayback an long through hips. I have been making my own pants for years. Your methods would make them fit better. Your phynomyenol. Any ideas Nick. From Gina in Southern Alabama
Your video was amazing and finally, I am able to make a pant and thanks for sharing your ideas but could you tell me if I want to cut the extra fabric from the waistline so how can I adjust those pattern
Hi Nick , a big thanks from France, so clear and helpful this video. Just one question please , the 2 3/4 added at the crotch for the front , and 1 1/2 at the back crotch, are these for any sizes or would it be different for size 14 or 16 , and if yes how can we find these measurements ? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with such a lovely smile.
Nick I am new to your channel and I love that green one shoulder blouse that is behind you, can you please show us how to drape that blouse. Thank you.
I love the way you pay attention to grain line !! Very straight forward tutorial . I am just curious about the inside seam of trousers . I think the back inside seam should be stretch to front . Am I correct ?? Always having arguments at work !!! What is the correct way Please !!!!! ????? Thanks
Hi Kristina Blanc! Thank you for your lovely comments and question. In regards to your inside seam of trousers question: Yes, that seam should extend toward the front; you are RIGHT! This is because the back inside seam(crotch seam) is longer than the front. Tell your coworkers that YOU ARE RIGHT ;) --XO, Nick
Nick- If you were draping for other people how would you handle the draping part? In other words, would you possibly drape some on the individual and some on a dress form padded to the persons measurements?Thank you
Nick, I became a new subscriber in a snap! You make things so easy and simple without fear. I do have a question. In your expertise, is it advisable to have an invisible zipper without a zipper flap in front of the pants. I dislike zippers at the back and sides of the pants. I am playing with the thought of just sewing in an invisible zipper at the front. what is your recommendation. Thank you for what you do :)
Dank you so much, now I know how to drape for my pants. I don't have a dress form ,would it work if I put on tight fitting leggings, place all the markings on it then have a friend drape it on to me? If she pinned it for a narrow pants I could then use it to make my own pant dress form. Do you think that might work? I don't have the money to buy one. The back of the pants usually give me a lot of wrinkles, I noticed that your model, when finished pinning, had wrinkles at the back near the side seam too. Should that part be gathered in a bid?
I love your videos Nick. They are so informative. You are a great teacher. Is this how you did it on project runway? You should have won, by the way! Gale
Hello Nick, I've been saving up to buy a new dress form and I'm inbetween the full body dress form (one with legs) or the torso dress form, I don't want to be limited while I'm creating a garment, I'm looking for something that would let me produce: pants, suits, dresses, coats... What would you recommend? Thank you for your videos!!
Nnenia Yasmeen marc the points of the triangle, then you’re gonna fold it (the two dots of the waist will kiss) the sew a straigh line from the waist to the end of the dart and tada! It’s done. I hope I answeres your doubt.
Nick has a nice video where he shows how to make a pattern from a drape and true it up for cutting & sewing. The video shows a bodice, but all the steps are the same for a pant. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/G2C5qK54pmI/видео.html
Nick Peace Please tell me how far down from the top of the fabric you went or does it even matter? As I'm typing, I see you are just starting in the middle of the fabric, at that point starts your waist (is that correct?). I'm in LA and I wish I could be a part of an in person class with you. I appreciate your giving spirit. Ashe'
I have question regarding the fit on the back. How do you drape a trouser pattern where it cups the bottom underneath rather than hanging straight from the apex of the bottom e.g. close fitting crotch for skinny trousers without a seam down the CB if the leg.
Hi NIck love your videos .As I am a little on the large size I dont think you size would fit me. Ha Ha . how do I make the pattern larger . Many thanks.
stellar instruction! simple, easy, and FUN! But please lose that music...adds nothing but distraction IMHO. You're the best draping instructor on RUclips; can't wait to see what you have coming in the future.

if you aren't wearing stiff pants you will have some light creasing and wrinkles so they fit when you sit and don't burst your crotch seams or rise.
I love your videos Nick. They are so informative. You are a great teacher. Is this how you did it on project runway? You should have won, by the way! Gale
Thank you nick 👍
loveee this video thank you so much

great tutorial, thanks. But I am confused about the zip part. how to do that. please make a video on this nick.God bless.keep it up
Nick, Are you allowing for ease since when someone sits, the body needs to allow some space.
Very nice!!
How do you transfer drapes to the sewing machine? I'm new to this. lol
Nnenia Yasmeen marc the points of the triangle, then you’re gonna fold it (the two dots of the waist will kiss) the sew a straigh line from the waist to the end of the dart and tada! It’s done. I hope I answeres your doubt.

Hi NIck love your videos .As I am a little on the large size I dont think you size would fit me. Ha Ha . how do I make the pattern larger . Many thanks.
how would you go about draping pants for yourself if your dress form doesn’t have legs? does bending over change things too much or would that be fine
