You are very giving with your knowledge. I'm an old lady now, but as a young girl I dreamed of being a fashion designer (well, once I realized I was never going to be a dancer on the Red Skelton show.....lol.) College of any type was pretty much out of reach, so my sewing was limited to the Vogue patterns I could buy. Now I enjoy sewing clothes for my granddaughter and dolls. To have the knowledge of how to transfer an idea to a drape and then to a pattern is something I've hungered for for many years. Thank you for your kindness in sharing.
Finding your channel was probably one of the best things that happened to me. I learned so much from binge watching your videos and putting them into practice
Nick, you have a true gift, not just as a fashion designer, but also with the art of teaching. Not many can explain complex topics in a manner that's easily understood. Your delightful and ingenius insertion of humor is a big part of that teaching gift and really helps others remember your lectures/demonstrations. As an Arkansan, I love when your southern accent/slang breaks through. You make learning an absolute blast! ❤
My parents were in the fashion business. My dad was the fashion designer and my mom was sawing the fabric. Pretty much most of my family is into the fashion. I was the one that chose a career in the beauty industry. But nonetheless, I was always drawing different fashion ideas on paper but never pursue it as career. Lately though, I find myself wanting to know everything about fashion from start to finish and reclaim my family name back into the fashion business and actually become the fashion designer my dad was hoping and dreaming I would become. I guess he saw that I have something within me to offer the world with my ideas, but I never believed that I could do it . I guess now I am ready to do this career change for myself and for my dads legacy. Thank you for everything you teach!
When I was little, I mastered Cottenelle and Tape masterpieces for my Barbie Doll. Then I pretty much --- grew into that figure, where ready made garments always had to be professionally altered. Now I am recovering from a major ankle surgery, have had the time, and been following most every seamstress here on RUclips, learning how to sew. I know have the know how, but no experience sewing. I haven't even ran a seam on the sewing machine I just bought! Nick, I am so enjoying your lessons! The magic? You are THE ONLY ONE here on RUclips to show us how to transfer the drape bodice onto paper! Really! You must know how exciting this is for me? You are also the only one who showed us how to draw a Crochie. Thank you for being a superbly detailed teacher! Challenge? Could you design and walk us through a Fashion Dress with side inserts (or multiple side inserts) that really emphasis the waist? Have a wonderful day and Thanksgiving!
Hi! I love your enthusiasm! Thank you for making these videos! At 29 years, life for me is taking a new direction. I have always enjoyed sewing, it's my dream to learn to draft patterns and create beautiful dresses and help others do it too. We'll see where it goes! Your videos are fantastic! Thanks again!
I just love you! You are teaching me so much and I wish I could give you a hug!!! My daughter and I donate our time and money to sew prom dresses to families in need in a very small town in Western Pennsylvania. We've been to the Mood Fabric shop in NYC twice and bumped into Project Runway's Helen both times!!! Wish we could see you there next time we go! Thank you Nic for all you do.
I watched your other video on draping and then you used the cloth....I wasn't understanding why you had used it...then this video....OMG...lifechanging. I can use this to make my own patterns/draping over my dressmaker doll......hello honey. Signed, new to sewing. XO fm Canada.
I have been sewing for years, and have never seen the many steps to creating a drape and then a pattern. I am gaining a deeper understanding of the process, what can go wrong and what I can do to get a better fit. Thank you so much for being so very generous with your knowledge. Just love your videos!
I adore you! You are a fantastic teacher. Thanks to you I now know how to grade patterns and. I had a pattern class in pattern making but I could not understand.
You're such an inspiration Nick, I could never wrap my head around patterns but your draping methods are compelling me to buy a mannequin and get drafting. Thank you! Love from England xx
I started making mask and voila, ended up with Nick videos making my first everything, hope to end up making TUTU's for the ballet (I know tall order) Thank you tons handsome Nick.
I didn't get a chance to learn draping when I was doing pattern classes. This is helping me so much. I have so many designs I want to make but I just couldn't do it with the flat pattern technique.
I love watching you and listening to you Mr Verreos 😃. I'm am in my 50s and starting to design my own tops for the first time. I have watched you videos are they very helpful and inspiring , and you make me laugh. I'm going to check out your book too. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and in such a fun way.
Hello, Nick. Thank you - I'm very grateful for your instructional videos. I'm a very basic kind of seamstress - minor clothing repair, hemming, etc., with very little experience in garment-making, which I have found to be a bit intimidating. Your instructions have broken the process down into what seem to be manageable steps, and I am inspired to attempt to create my own dresses. Thank you! Please wish me luck! Trish
Fascinating. When watching Project Runway, I was always left wondering what steps were either not filmed or edited out between draping and sewing. Now I know how it's done. Mystery solved. Thanks.
Hello Sir Nick, Just wanna ask if you have a video for a basic bodice/sloper pattern making in a pattern paper step by step? :) newbie here. Thankyou sir! 😊
Where do I start nick to learn from the beginning which videos do you recommend to watch in order from a to z.. Thank you for all you're doing for us because of you I can not wait to start making something magnificent! I always want to learn how to make dresses.
Thanks for your videos; You are a true teacher and I love your way of explaining and your charisma. I need to create a basic pattern for a client and her measurements do not match those of my manikin. Do you have any tutorial where you show the technique to create the pattern without the help of the maniqui?
Hi nick! Ur videos are so great, but can you create a video on draping and patternmaking the back please! I’m honing my technical skills are your videos are amazing!!
Hi Nick.....absolutely love, love your videos. I have a question about the darts (and I hope it is not a silly one as I am new to this). Why do you add a 1/2 inch seam allowance to the darts? Why would you not stitch on your first marked line? I can understand why you need seam allowances everywhere else but this one baffles me. Ooops ok should have watched it right to the end (me bad). I see you are taking the bulk out of the middle and then you actually are stitching on the orginal line as you have that 1/2" seam allowance which allows that. So do you always trim out the middle of your darts and if so why?
What is the purpose of keeping the scissors in contact with the table for? And by the way, I love your videos. You make it very easy and understandable. Out of curiousity, would you do a video of how to read and follow directions in a written pattern?! Many of the terms and how they are written are so confusing to me. And I can't wait to see you do the video of how to copy a manufactured garment. I have several tops and bottoms that are no longer made that I would like to recreate.
Hi Debee! The reason I do that is to take away some of the dart intake bulk--in fabric, that is. Sometimes, it creates too much bulk in the garment inside so....I take that away by just removing everything that is not needed, except for the seam allowance. Also, it makes it much easier to sew the dart...by following the seam allowance, of course. XO, Nick
Thank you for this video. I recently found you and you make my day. I’d love to see a couple more pattern making videos. I drape beautiful wedding gowns but when I go to make the pattern from my drape and sew the muslin it turns into a mess and I’m starting to loose confidence. Everything lined up beautifully in my drapes however :(.
I'm a huge fan and new to the sewing techniques, question about darts ... are they needed in every garment and if I want to not add them I just tape or pin like you did ?
Hi Nick great video! I watched the previous video of draping a basic bodice. Problem is I don't have a dress form, I have a torso mannequin. DO you think it would work? Of course it's not pin-able but maybe i can use tape? Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful videotutorial! Do you usually have only one dart at the waist, or you also add a bust one? If so, how do you drape/pattern it? Thanks!
You are very giving with your knowledge. This is probably the most comprehensive tutorial I’ve ever seen. You explain everything so well, in detail and with a bit of humor. Bravo!

Oh thanks, I never saw anyone add seam allowance to the dart legs. do you mind explaining why you like it better than sewing the folded dart?
Hi Debee! The reason I do that is to take away some of the dart intake bulk--in fabric, that is. Thank u Nick!! You are awesome, can’t wait to learn something new from every video👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
What kind of ruler did you use? Not the curved one but the one straight transparent one ?
Thank you for this video. I recently found you and you make my day. I’d love to see a couple more pattern making videos. I drape beautiful wedding gowns but when I go to make the pattern from my drape and sew the muslin it turns into a mess and I’m starting to loose confidence. I LOVE, love your videos Nick, I am learning so much! Thank you!!
I am learning so much from this video :)
i learned more in this video than a semester in fashion school
thank you so much Sir... you're so great and very nice teaching.. I'm so grateful to find your channel... more power and God bless you always 😘😍👍👏
Does anyone know what type of scissors those are. I would like to purchase those particular scissors in that brand for pattern scissors.
Very helpful, thank you. I noticed that you cut out the dart instead of just folding the fabric. Is that to minimize excess fabric?
Thank you so very much for all your wonderful lessons. I have learnt so much from you. Wonderful presentation :-)
oh yes and maybe even see you actually sew the pattern out or who ever you have do your sewing. That would be awesome!! Love your show anyway.
I'm a huge fan and new to the sewing techniques, question about darts ... are they needed in every garment and if I want to not add them I just tape or pin like you did ?
How do I transfer the pattern to the fabric without cutting it when I get all the pins done?
Omg I just love you. You are soo funny and so informative.
How do you make this pink dress with wrinkle drape next to you?
You are the best teacher
I understand the front is folded in half. However, what about the back? How do you make that part?
OK that is so helpful tysm
Can you tell us how to make a drape completely from starch
Hi Nick great video! I watched the previous video of draping a basic bodice. Problem is I don't have a dress form, I have a torso mannequin. DO you think it would work? Of course it's not pin-able but maybe i can use tape? Thanks!
Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing.
I L❤ve your Nick Tricks! 👌😊
I don't get which dart leg is "closest" to the waist?
Does it have to be dotted paper
Well done videos I enjoy all of them!😻
Thank you for sharing this wonderful videotutorial! Do you usually have only one dart at the waist, or you also add a bust one? If so, how do you drape/pattern it? Thanks!
Excellent brevity! Love your color combos! :)
