I just discovered your channel 1 week ago. I recognized you from Project Runway. I am learning sooooo much from your videos. Thank you. I'm also looking forward to purchasing your book, "A Basic Guide to Pattern Drafting." Again thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
I've been searching RUclips high and low for a start to finish draping tutorial and I am SO happy that you are providing that. Not only do I feel like I'm at FIDM, I trust your expertise. Thanks so so so so sooo so much for posting these advanced draping lessons. 😁😊
The only dislikes on Nicks videos has to be RUclips Trolls that hate on everything. I love this mans personality and his funny little quips. I am a huge fan of yours and would buy a pattern-drafting course from you if you ever make one. I purchased the Sure-fit-Design course to make clothes for myself and my daughter. It is so hard to get the clothes to fit right. I made a basic pants sloper using my daughters measurements and it was huge on her. I am now on my 5th pair of muslin pants, making adjustments each time to the sloper and they still do not fit great. I am an intermediate to advanced sewer and I have made lots of clothes from commercial patterns that I had an easier time adjusting the fit. I am going to check out your book to see if it has pattern drafting in it, but I would love a video course instead of a book 😁❤️
I stumbled upon your videos the other day. I'm new to sewing and am fascinated by draping. Eventually I'd like to create my own patterns for my own creations. I absolutely love the way you bring fun into this art. I thank you for these lessons. I'm going to have a dress form very soon and can't wait until I'm a little more advanced to try out these project lessons.
Hi Nick , i am new subscriber to your channel. from Vancouver Bc CA. I must say you are walk e walk and talk e talk role model. very inspiring to those who thinks its boring to sew. yes !its hard work . but you are once again very inspiring. and very generous to share your knowledge. I am learning a lot from you , Thank you xxx
Hi Nick! Just wanted to thank you once more. I'm learning so much from you and having fun while doing so too. Would it be a lot to ask for a sewing and grading video for this same garment/pattern in particular. You have already demonstrated how to drape it on a form and how to get it on pattern paper. Would love if you could possibly show the last remaining steps such as sewing it and grading the pattern to make other sizes. Thank you in advance, you are the best! Joshua
10-31-16 Nick please make a video on how to draw various necklines onto a pattern piece (v-neck, square neck, heart shape, assymetric neckline) and please explain step by step. Thanks
Hi Nekpen: Thank you so much for your question! If you want to drape a dress to become your actual size. First of all, if you have a form, measure the bust, waist and hips of your form. If you are smaller by one size for example, go ahead and drape your dress on the form but when you take the drape out, cut off some of it to make the drape smaller to fit you. If you are bigger than your form, my suggestion is to pad your form with shoulder pads. I will be doing a video here soon to show how to do that, but for now, just measure your form and say, the bust is 34 inches but you are 36 inches, then add shoulder pads to the bust until you get them to be 36 inches. And do this for the waist and hips as well. Now...if you don't have a form, then my suggestion is when you have a drape, sew a mock-up/muslin for yourself but make it bigger than you--this might take a few tries. And then have a friend fit it on you and pin until it is closer to your size. Hope this helps! --Nick
what if I only want to make a couple dresses? could I just add S.A. to my muslin and use that as my pattern? p.s. I LOOOOOOVE your videos! I am so excited to learn draping! you're a great teacher
Hi Renate-- For this project I used unbleached muslin, which is the standard for the fashion industry, but depending on the project I use what I feel will most likely be similar to the fabric I will use for the final product. For example, If it is a silk charmeuse dress, I will use a cheap polyester satin to drape with. Hope that helps!!

y dotted paper is used for patterns?... i used plain sheets in college..
Sneha Gautam is the Muslim that you draped, already your pattern? I appreciate so much if I got answer on this
Merci beaucoup pour votre explication
perfect.merci
De rien Rodica! Calin et bisous! XOXO
Why can't you use the muslin for the pattern? Why re-draw it?
Karen Kupferer overtime the muslin can stretch out of shape so if you just used the muslin as the pattern the garment would be wonky xx
👌👌👌👌👌👍
