    I used to do this in the 80's for DIY knickerbockers as a kid. Usually did the elastic version. These days I make mine from a pattern, using fabric that catches my fancy. That way I have control over everything in construction and end up with a garment that I can wear for 10-30+ of regular wear.

    I wear plus fours quite often, they're still very much used in the UK in the countryside. I work for a sporting estate in Scotland and most estates have their own tweed/tweeds. Vintage looking tweed suits are still very much used today even for practical purposes, the plus fours are great for walking in heather as the bottom of trousers would get ruined constantly walking in it. They're also incredibly warm in the cold and wet.

    I tried this technique with a pair of old French corduroy trousers that were too short in the inseam, but I couldn't bare to let them go to waist, so I turned them into knee breeches with buttons up the hems, they wear nicely in the summer for working on the farm and pair with my 18th century shirts.

    I've done this in two of the versions. For one pair I did the ribbon method, although I will admit it felt very bulky and cut into my skin a lot when wearing them. So although that was an easy method it's probably not one I'd use again. For the other pair of pants I used the method with the button, although for a doll so it's safe to say those pants are too small for me to wear lol. I also used a push button instead of the classic kind, due to the miniature size of the garment. But other than that detail, that method looks like it would be more comfortable, as there wouldn't be a lot of creases pressed tightly against the skin. Both of those pants I made myself from scratch though. I'm considering buying a pair of pants and re-make this way because I just like the look and it might be a nicer alternative to shorts in the summer.

  • @martinc2944

    Impressive work as always. On the point of pleats, could you possibly fold the front (the same way you did to reduce the waistband at the back) to achieve the result? Assuming the waist on the trousers was large enough, of course.

    • @fynnwhite

      I'm not quite sure, but I think it's about the period and if one would wear it whith a waistcoat or not. Because pre WW1 one would always wear a waistcoat, therefore the buttons are on the outside and it doesn't matter, but after both wars things got a lot more casual and one might not even wear a waistcoat, so the buttons went inside.

  • @erdenwurm7208
    @erdenwurm7208 4 года назад

    Ist es ratsam Hosen auch weiter zu machen?
    Ich stöbere seit ein paar Monaten durch Aachens Second Hand Läden und tue mich schwer Hosen zu finden die ich schließen kann. Meine Beine haben sehr viel Platz, aber dennoch ist mir der Bund zu eng, mich damit hinzusetzen wage ich kaum.

    • @Vintagebursche
      @Vintagebursche  4 года назад +1

      Wenn die Stoffreserve im Bund das zulässt, kann man das natürlich machen. Bei einer normalen Anzughose würde ich aber nicht mehr als ~4cm im Bund zugeben, weil die Proportionen hinten sonst nicht mehr passen. Nur bei so einer sackigen Knickerbocker ist das fast egal.

    • @erdenwurm7208
      @erdenwurm7208 4 года назад +1

      Vielen Dank, das Motiviert sehr! Ich habe erst so nach und nach verstanden, dass viele Herrenkleidung Stoffreserven besitzen. Heute eine Hose für 2€ gekauft die sich knapp schließen ließ. Ich denke 2cm sollten reichen, ich versuche mich im Lauf der Woche mal an einer Anpassung.

    Hm, wenn schon englisch-sprachige Videos (warum eigentlich?): es wäre schön, wenn es diese engl. Videos auch mit deutscher Sprache gäbe (auf dem dt. Kanal gibt es leider deutlich weniger Videos). Klar, genau bei diesem Video hier mit dem Hose-Ändern ist es schwierig bzw. unmöglich, dieses nochmals auf deutsch zu drehen (die Hose ist ja dann beim Start der 2. dt. Aufnahme schon geändert), aber es genügt doch, wenn für das dt. Video der engl. Ton auf stumm geschaltet wird und der dt. Sprachton einfach aufgeschaltet wird, quasi als eigene Synchronisation (die Lippenbewegungen müssen ja nicht unbedingt passen).

      Wieviele Menschen kann man mit englisch-sprachigen Videos erreichen? Wieviele Menschen auf der Welt sprechen dagegen nur Deutsch?
