The first of the SNES era of GST Channel Mixes, and when I heard this, I immediately I fell in love with this mix so much, in fact the next three mixes for both GSTMIX and what then became EXTMIX from GSTMIX++, is pretty much a prefect double trilogy of mixes, this one feels like what happens if you mix "Relaxed Waters" & "Luminescent Elixir" from the Genesis era, and is just an astounding showcase of what the SPC-700 soundchip was capable of from this console. I'm not sure how much I can describe my love on this one, pretty much every track is a top notch pick and flows perfectly, in fact each transition and songs featured here is probably one of the best you've ever done, which of course makes this one of the greatest mixes to me on the channel, its perfection in all forms. The Title Screen tune from Shinri Game 2 is one of my favorites of all time now for the console and in general, you helping expose so many now to that incredible OST is one of the best things I've discovered in recent time, it's a feeling also like I've known this track my whole life but I've just discovered it, either way the OST and visuals of that game are now in my ranking for both the best I've heard and seen on the SNES, Japan always gets it best. And then you go into Purgatory of Cannondale Cup which is just a super chill track (even more insane its 4 and a half minutes until it properly loops making the overall track 9 minutes), plus Paul Wilkinson is an interesting composer that started out rough in his early career but he seemed to be more comfortable on the SNES. And oh god Waterworld, I know a certain Artist Feature to spill my love for that but Mission Theme 2 is like the one track I would have wanted here and seeing it here was blissful satisfaction. Jelly Boy is also a fantastic and underrated OST, so many unique tracks and Over the Top is a great standout tune that fits here. And it's no surprise I'd never find out about such a delicate track from a pachinko game if not for this channel, that Main Menu theme gets my heart in such a good place, I literally can listen to that piano part for hours, and the hi-hat transition into Pac-Attack is also perfection, sends shivers down my spine. Majin Tensei 2 again, another amazing OST I would have never looked into if not because of you, absolute magnificent use of the SPC-700 for such a large OST as well! And I get that GamePro critique for Elite Soccer with the overall amount of listenable songs outside of National Anthems is a fair criticism, but the one track itself is great so of course my stance against reviewers not knowing what they are talking about in regards to soundtrack talk in this era stands firm, haha. And gosh ending on Vortex, Justin Scharvona's magnum opus, truly one of his best, have listened to that OST for years, one of many perfect OST's on the console. Thank you anosci for putting together what is without a doubt one of my favorite mixes for the SNES and on the channel, amazing for the very first one of the SNES era you basically crafted perfection. I apologize for spilling out my thoughts on basically every track, I feel bad it becomes just a wall of text but with the passion I have for VGM I will never withhold how I feel about the mixes, the music, and just what an outstanding job you do, can't wait to say more! ❤
Oh crap I'm familiar with the Shinri Game Soundtrack but its upload on youtube only has a couple hundred views so its pretty surreal to see something that obscure just pop up again
Holy crap these songs are great! So happy you're giving obscure SNES stuff some love. Waterworld, Vortex, and Majin Tensei are the best in this mix imo. My favorite thing about Water World is how phenomenal the OST is for all 3 versions. It's rare you get to choose which of the 3 you prefer: SNES, Genesis, or Virtual Boy (actually it's the ONLY time you can), but it's all down to preference because they all sound amazing!
That Shinri Game music is so perfect! After watching this video I downloaded the full soundtrack of that game and it has become one of my favorites, fascinating to hear both from the musical and technical standpoints. It’s been almost a year and still gives me shivers the same as when hearing it the first time.
You took these from SNESMusic.org? I noticed this since the composer info was taken directly from the SPC sets... thus... I have composer info for Jissen Pachi Slot Hisshouhou! thanks to beating the game... it's Hiromi no Chichi. I also have Pac-Attack's composer: it's Saya-Saya AKA Hiromi Shibano. And that 259/128 pause? Likely a sound driver quirk... on that note, the Shinri Game 2 is one of my favorite video game soundtracks.
Or, if we want to be even more pedantic, for the first song. The sound engine is stopping inbetween chunks of the track trying to load the next bit. Which seems to be fairly common on cheap/underbudgetted games
I've heard The Shinri Game 2 being described as ambient Detriot techno or something like that. Cannondale Cup is a game I've never heard of. Daring choice to not go with Diving! The Jelly Boy track really grew on me. I love the sample arps in Vortex. You don't get to hear those very often past 8-bit games. I would've loved to hear Utopia. On of my favorite soundtracks. ruclips.net/video/AHqCbra62c0/видео.html I never really dug deep into SNES music, because while I do like the compositions, the sample quality can be grating. So it's cool to hear some obscure stuff from you, thanks. Hope you do some Amiga some day, because I love those wild soundtracks. Nothing like the SNES.
Utopia is something that *almost* made it into the mix, but I ended up going a different direction. It has a cool sound though, for sure! I do plan on covering the amiga some day, but it will be a while! "Nothing like the SNES."
Sure, technically the SNES can do everything the Amiga does and more, but stylistically it's a very different place. ruclips.net/video/n5h_Wu7QRpM/видео.html Ever heard something like this on the SNES?
hmm...maybe not as a single song. try these though: ruclips.net/video/xEnzadSgefc/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Nn8XXz_JbX8/видео.html not to say there is no difference, but you will find some overlap here and there!
Holy shit, that DynamiTracer track is hilarious. Thank you for that. But still not quit like Treasure Trap, at leat not the whole thing, because it changes every minute or so.
I can't help but wonder how I made such a mistake. Weird. it's not a huge mistake, but I've added a note in the description anyway. thanks for spotting that!
@@GSTChannelVEVO no problem! also after watching the video i noticed that the description to vizzed's uploads of the jelly boy ost makes the same mistake of 1991. how odd...
The wrong date seems to have come from the SNESMusic SPC rip (though I have no idea if they're the originator or if they propagated it from elsewhere). My guess as to how it happened? *Jerry* Boy is from 1991...
259/128 really is a "crime signature"

I love each wall of text. thank you for sharing
Dean Evans is the Tim Follin of underappreciated VGM composers.
This is an awesome mix to start off, also yeah, the SNES is perfect for this kind of style.
Oh crap I'm familiar with the Shinri Game Soundtrack but its upload on youtube only has a couple hundred views so its pretty surreal to see something that obscure just pop up again
Tbh it sounds cool, my younger me would just mess in the sound test menu i think

I like this, I like this ALOT
Delicious synths and samples
Really good mix today too. I’m suprised that we first now got a theme from SMT and its spinoffs.
damn! just discovered this hidden gem of a channel! Like a second Legacy Music Hour
My favorite youtuber strikes again! That transition into Cannondale...
Dope
oh cool!
I haven't seen Ishkur's guide in a while
I feel it
Hey, I spotted Ishkur's Guide in there! Good shit!
Also glad to see Ishkur pop up, that taught me alot way back when
Also, Jelly Boy the clear standout for me here...
dope
LOVE THESE!!!!
Nice mix. Can't wait for you to explain the limitations of the SNES' sound chips in the future.
1:32 Nah, they just messed up.
The Shinri song sounds a LOT like Kaze no Notam's "Departure". I wonder if ArtDink was inspired or sampled it.
This is absolutely beautiful
Every one of your mixes is amazing
Oooooh, Majin Tensei! Perhaps I should play it when I have time.
Wow, this one was very good! ありがとうございます!
This is my kind of jam right here! Great mix! =D
A pleasure as always
7:34 is so close to being a Streets of Rage track I could almost swear it's a rip off of one!
I loved Majin Tensei ll soundtrack!!! Listen the CD version of game.
Did you know that the person who worked on Vortex's music also worked in Anthrox making music for their cracktros?
I had heard this but never really looked into it very deeply.
Upon doing a bit of digging just now, the connection seems pretty solid. pretty cool!
@@GSTChannelVEVO Yeah, there's a whole thread on the NESDev forums about it.

fantastic mix!
i will say tho, jelly boy came in 1995 but ehhh who cares that game kinda blows anyway

yep that seems pretty unassailable. nice detective work!
the pachinko one sounds like gypsy woman (she's homeless).
