Weeds out a lot people who don't have a serious dedication to the craft unlike many genres were drumming is very minimal and slow meaning they have a way lower bar. Darkside is still leagues above his contemporaries though, technical abilities aside. So goddamn articulate and tasteful

Black metal is about the spirit, and a lot of its musicianship isn’t that technical. Darkside is an quite the exception. Granted the guy plays more than just black metal fyi a lot of other extreme music.
@@2510LuL I've been actively playing for about 4 years now (self taught) and I have to say, playing black metal is fairly easy compared to a lot of other, seemingly less demanding genres. Also playing really slow is insanely hard. Not to discredit any black metal drummers of course, it's still my most favourite genre to play (no matter the instrument) and there are a lot of insanely talented musicians and songwriters in that genre.

You are seriously one of the best and most unique metal drummers we have right now, keep it up!
This is black metal, it's not supposed to make you feel happy, but I can't help but smile when I hear those ride patterns. Drums in BM usually sustain the aggression or enforce the monotony. Here, they create beauty.
Listening to BM always makes me happier, even if it's dark and aggressive music. My mind is always cleared... And I always smile when I listen to Mgła.

I smoked a cigarette with him before his show. Didn't even realize it was him until some big dude started talking to him in polish. Was in Wisconsin at a small club during the exercises in futility tour.
This will forever be one of my favorite drum parts and my current motivation to finally take up drumming. I've listened to this at least 100 times since I discovered it about a month ago, not counting the actual song and other Mgla stuff.

As a very long time metal (and other extreme forms of music) fan I have been watching drummers in the spotlight for I would have to guess almost 20 years. While I may be impressed often by the raw talent and dedication in many of them this is the first time I have felt I am actually hearing something new.
Just fucking wow. I've never seen such prominent use of cymbals. It's the cymbals that are driving the beat, rather than the kick and snare for the majority of the song. This dude thinks differently about the way he approaches his kit.

Saw Mgla here in Santiago (Chile) just before the pandemic outbreak and was one of the best live performances I've seen in my life. Everyone in the band is at the top of their game and DarkSide is unbelievably amazing. Hail Mgla lml lml

Dude has some of the most intricate and captivating cymbal work in all of extreme metal. In a way, his drumming style actually seems to have more in common with some of the best jazz/fusion drummers as opposed to your run of the mill extreme metal drummer.
Majstersztyk w każdym calu. Już od kilku lat słucham albumów Mgły i Kriegsmaschine głównie z powodu niesamowitych partii perkusji. Do dziś pamiętam wasz koncert w Poznaniu w 2017. Mam nadzieję że jak już ta paranoja związana z koroną opadnie to odwiedzicie kiedyś Tokio albo zobaczę was znów w Polsce. W tamtym roku grał Bolzer i Taake, ale teraz koncertów brak.
