That's funny. My grampa was a big fan during the great Gold Rush... he would download RUclipss on his wooden phone and watch this out by the river. True story
Ah, the 1970s…happy days…when people bought watches to tell the time…and you could buy an Omega from Argos for £75… Oh, wait a moment, that’s actually true 😱
I see what you did there. You did not even have to say "please support me by buying one of my books", you simply gave us one verbally instead. Nicely played sir!
It's a shocking indictment into the YT watch community that you alone are willing to put this much time and effort into research to make sure your content is 100% accurate, if only there were more with your dedication.
Still think the BB58 is a better looking watch...the BB54 is a Rolex homage; which in my opinion is lazy. The Tudor BB58 has its own personality, proportions and uniqueness; a esthetically better balanced watch and beautiful to the sight.
Thank you for revealing the true story of the Blackbay and its descendants. Till now, nobody ever talked about it. Hopefully they'll be teaching this to schoolkids in history class in years to come.
Andrew, the review was brilliant ! Your humor and insight into the ‘history’ of Tudor and its success was ‘riveting’ to ‘watch’ ! You are setting new standards with your ‘deep’ insight into watchmaking. It was unforgettable. Eagerly looking forward to the next one.
@@JinKee I loved the North Flag. It was nice to see them do something that wasn't a Rolex knock-off, but it was so quickly discontinued that I fear it was a signal that Rolex wants Tudor to be its own homage brand ,not a place for original ideas.
I think the answer is obvious, with his dulcet toned voice, he’s obviously under contract for Rolex as their audio transcriptionist for meeting minutes. This also explains his deeper unique insights into the company that we just won’t see from elsewhere
Andrew, great story! Please historically review the Jaeger-LeCoultre reverso, Omega big block diver, Blanc Pain 50 fathoms, or the Zenith El Primiro Please. Or the second one most iconic watch in design, quality, and tech the Seiko Astron 35SQ. Actually, please do the Seiko. Thank you Chris
Maybe the smaller size is a safety feature for when you fiddle with the strap while standing on rocks and drop the watch; its terminal velocity will be less given the lower weight...
Tudor such a confused brand. Exhibition only. Wait lists. Do me a favour. Tudor to me is a 70s crisps manufacturer. In the US they think Zenith makes Tellys. Funny how that goes. Tudor. The lamest name in watchmaking which is a shame. Nice pieces. Just an ugly badge.
There is nothing about the black bay 54 in this video. If you are looking for information about the 54, don't watch this annoying history lesson about Tudor!
After your brilliant analysis, I am pretty sure we will see an exciting and very bold move from Tudor next year. No more Black Bay. Let me introduce the Black Pearl 56.😮 Oh, I forgot. It's blue.
Tudor's designs throughout history are better than Rolex'. No failures. I'd buy smth more original though, but BB looks perfect if you want smth looking like this.
Brilliant video. I really wanted to see it on wrist and that’s why I clicked this morning filled with amazing English premier football but this idea was far more interesting…. Still can’t wait to get it on wrist. Being a 58 blue owner and lover I can finally justify to myself into buying a black version if this fits. As much as I love the black 58 I can’t buy two of the same watches in different colors unless it’s a Rolex :)
I guess a similar thing just might have happened for the Tudor modern titanium diver as well. The idea of dragging the Black Bay forward to modern times someone called Fred within the Tudor Citadel was dreaming of a light weight watch, larger and lighter and more modern than the Black Bay. While mulling these thoughts watching an old in flight film in a plane where everything that weighed anything had to be taken into account he saw Pegasus, the lightweight horse and boom! The idea was formed. A Tudor pilot watch, so light that it would be hard to get an accurate weight. Presenting his idea of the Pegasus Pilot watch to the high priests it was shot down so much verbal force that his earlobes wobbled. Fred ambled back to the darker dusty corners of the citadel. Undeterred he would continue but change the new lighter, more modern watch to a diver but that was where he hit a problem. Horses don't live that long under water, not a good advertisement showing a sea of dead equines floating in the ocean. After may long milliseconds he worked out what needed to be done, this time it would work, no drowning horses and no issues with being sued by an ancient god for using a name of a mythical beast with wings. He would call it the Submarin........, no that wasn't it, the Seamast..... no that wouldn't work either. Then after an epiphany he with the help of some stress relieving moulding putty decided upon the Pelagos. The rest is almost history.... until he left it on the table out of reach while watching another really interesting film about sea horses.
What manner of substances did you consume prior to writing that rollercoaster ride? On the watch, neither a Tudor fan nor a divewatch person, but I appreciate any smaller case releases and hope this is indicative of a longer term trend in the industry, away from 43-46mm behemoths. When it comes to suggestions for future reviews, I'd love to see your take on either the JLC Reverso Tribute Chronograph or the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph with that domed, Max Bill-esque, crystal. Both seem pretty interesting to me and I'd love to see them close up and personal.
Rather than hoping they trend away from something you don't like to something you do like. How about they make watches in a wide enough range to make everyone happy?
@@davidr2802 Yeah, that is exactly what I want. As seen with th BB, a smaller and larger option. I want to get away from the current trend of releases solely targeting the larger wristed gentlemen.
The BB54 is just not selling. They are effectively shop window watches now. Turns out all those slim wristed guys that wouldn’t stop bleating about wanting one, have equally slim pockets and integrity 😂
Perhaps just in your area. That's not the case elsewhere. In fact, people are being put on waiting lists for the BB54. I was put on one, but purchased one on the gray market.

The real idiots are those that don't appreciate the brilliance required to make a stealth educational video that's silly and fun 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It really makes a brilliant mockery of Tudor’s “born to dare” tagline, which couldn’t be further removed from their actual products or practices
This is painfully true

lots of peeps now linking this video to the REAL The Watch Idiot channel - who funnily enough released a vid at the same time as this....
I just discovered this channel and I have to say it's so bizarre hearing you narrate without the Watchfinder theme in the background.
I can heartily recommend Andrew's book - Vessel, its a really good Sci-Fi novel - I'm off to read some of the others 😀

I'm autistic, so maybe there's a lack of humour on my part here, but I found the amount of sarcasm here made the episode a bit hard to watch.

Excellent - now re-record it in French and send it to the volcano, on an island, in the pacific :D
I genuinely despise watches with no date, like the designers just want to make them more useless
