Eco-brutalist video did really well, which is super great. However a video like that getting 200,000+ viewers out of nowhere also has downsides
Basically, sorry to anyone who is expecting me to make a bunch of video essays pertaining to architecture or "modern art" (even though in my opinion eco-brutalism isn't modern art but whatever...) anytime soon.
By far my favorite thing about making youtube videos, is seeing the comments. I LOVE going and seeing comments of people sharing personal experiences or giving a new perspective. Some people will be like "I think your dumb because (something to do with topic of the video)" and I'll still be kicking my feet and gigglin. Because just saying ANYTHING about art/media always interests me.
    However,
Rather than people criticizing the contents of the video, people were directing their hate directly onto EVERYTHING about me. Making videos like this (especially controversial art) will always attract the most hateful people. it isn't a majority yes, but because this video blew up, it really got out of hand at one point. Full blown N*zis were in my comments and I had to delete a bunch of them. Which I would never find it smart to delete comments, unless they risk my own video getting taken down.
Like I would personally like to consider myself a person with tough skin. However I don't think I need to explain through "FaCtS aNd LoGiC" why someone telling me I'm a "worthless piece of pretentious, unfunny garbage" would make me less motivated to make videos like this.... like I got called MULTIPLE slurs. (also go blamed for causing chernobyl.. like what lol)
Like I was considering putting some example screenshots in the video, but I decided against it. But there are SO MANY. like I'm talking paragraphs upon paragraphs of dudes spewing the worst of the worst about me specifically. even going to some of my other videos to say the same thing. Like with timestamps, of every little mannerism they deemed annoying. some real redditor shit
Yes, this is everywhere, the internet has the worst people, and every video out there has dumb mfs going crazy in the comment sections. I realize this, I'm not oblivious
However as I'm starting to gain somewhat of a following and "community" you could say, this is not the type of thing I want to attract. Like I was considering making a video about the similarities between Mark Rothko, and the soundtrack to Interstellar. Which sucks cause I still really want to
But if I did that, I would only gain a following that is nothing but yelling. I don't want that. I made this channel just to rant about things I enjoy, and analyze those different types of media. And I will do that. My next video I was thinking about making a video about the art from Frog and Toad.
So as I start out, I just want to gain a community that understand the style of video I make and have a community that can discuss various ideas without being violent about it. I feel like the only way I can do that is just keep making videos that won't attract controversy.
Which really sucks, cause I think those are always the most interesting but whatever.
Anyways that's it. this didn't NEED to be said, but I said it anyways, just incase. Kind comments really do make my day, and I have a few saved to show other people. Like one person told me my words about chernobyl brought them to peace, as they had family being victims of the disaster and other events pertaining to it. Comment like these I never forget.
anyways you're cool if you read this cringe garbage

Hi I also want to say that while phil lord and Chris Miller were instrumental in the development of spider verse, a big part of the visual design comes from the concept art teamed by Vaughn Ling and alberto mielgo.
Alberto mielgo especially was the one responsible for the comic book look and a lot of his pre vis work for the what's up danger scene was preserved in the film. He directed the witness and Jibaro for love death and robots and is probably one of my favourite artists/animators rn please check him out!
Edit: YO I GOT TO THE PART IN THE VIDEO WHERE YOU MENTIONED HIM LESGOO

    • @qwertydavid8070
      @qwertydavid8070 Год назад +13

True. I feel like a lot of the credit gets automatically thrown to Phil lord and Chris Miller, I actually didn't even know who Alberto Mielgo was! I feel like he should've been the first person to show up in the credits, given how influential his role was in establishing the visual style for the movie.
However, this isn't mean to sweep away Lord and Miller either. They are honestly my favorite animated movie writers ever. Every single one of them is a banger. They are incredibly talented writers, but I feel like ironically they aren't that well versed when it comes to understanding how animation works. My theory as to why every animated Lord and Miller movie looks so good is because they actually give the animators full creative control. It's not like having Lord and Miller on the team suddenly makes a movie better, it's the fact that they let the artists unleash the potential they've always been holding back.

as someone who wishes to become an animator one day and thus am very very conscious about what goes on in the animation industry (and I know people who work in the industry who constantly share their experiences), holy shit thank you. this was so, SO refreshing to watch. the part where you showed a bunch of random artists’ portfolios and explained that most of the people who work on spiderverse also worked on the emoji movie, I audibly gasped at the fact that you’re even sharing it because you’re so absolutely correct but so many people assume bad movies are made by incompetent people when that is almost never ever the case, every single person is good enough to work for sony is GOOD. and indeed unfortunately artist mistreatment is completely normal in every visual arts industry and the entertainment industry as a whole (although spider-verse was a particularly unique case of downright horrific) all while getting paid dogshit.
I just. oh my god, thank you so much for verbalizing pretty much everything I have to say about this situation, perfectly done from the perspective of a non visual artist to a non artist audience.

I don't think spiderverse influenced arcane at 22:00 there are other examples to give. Although Arcane was released after spiderverse by 2 years, the studio behind arcane had already crafted that style on their own. Look at the music video "RISE" on the League of Legends youtube channel released 2 months before spiderverse and it is 100% in the style of Arcane. They've also used various other art styles over the years.
Minor nitpick. I otherwise thought this was a great well researched video that gives credit to the amazing artists.

    • @joshuabushman7

Artistic freedom really is the greatest thing when it comes to all of this stuff. Heck I think nothing exemplifies this more than the indie animation scene right here on RUclips. So many creative people have been able to share their passion projects and even make full scale productions on this platform with little to no creative restrictions at all since they're their own boss! Like we have a whole generation of amazing Indie produced animated shows on this platform now, with the 3 biggest probably being Helluva Boss, Lackadaisy, and Murder Drones, all of which are highly praised!
Whats even better is that this aint a competition for profit either, not about one outperforming the other. These creatives know that with more indie animation, everybody wins, more great stories can be told with more creativity. Plus many people in this, both newcomers and industry veterans often work across multiple indie projects! The creatives leading such projects also often seem to champion fair and uplifting work conditions, like one of the animators on Lackadaisy made a whole video on the great work process on their pilot and how it was completely open and everyone involved could see what everyone else was doing and learn from one another alongside community events and creative freedom, even down to smaller cogs in the production like individual animators. Another example being Helluva Boss, which there is slightly less known about, but where equal pay amongst its voice actors is also prioritised to be fair, no matter if the VA is a relatively small actor, or a broadway star or even celebrity, like with Kesha's role in one episode.
Like we know of Helluva Boss, Lackadaisy, and Murder drones, but even beyond that there are so many smaller projects like Monkey Wrench, Tales of Zale, Ollie & Scoops, and Satina to name a few, and even more on the way like Far Fetched, and The Amazing Digital Circus. On top of projects making it from the indie animation scene into the big studio hands against the odds like Don't Hug me I'm scared, Hazbin Hotel, and to an extent Smiling Friends.
Like, tldr, we see right here that when artists are given the freedom and means to make something great, they absolutely can and will do that!

You made some great, well-researched points! The introduction of stylized animation to Hollywood is so important!!! As an artist who works under a big studio it's frustrating to deal with a constant cycle of execs who have no sympathy for the artists dealing with the stress of the creative process, they don't seem to understand the concept of "quality over quantity". The peanuts movie was really where I started to see everything turn for the better; I'm excited for people to finally start taking animation seriously!

Thank you for really pointing out the differences between allowing workers and artists to have creative freedom vs ideas being stomped out by certain executive. I believe that creative freedom and collaboration is why we DO have really good movies out there. It's why underrepresented communities stories are being told in animation. Miles as an African American/Black superhero, Katie Mitchell as Sony's first openly queer (and neurodivergent) main character are huge inspirations for people. Plus Mitchells vs Machines is my favorite animated movie of all time due to the creative freedom allowed, and the fact that the two main directors worked on Gravity Falls.

This was such a great watch! Thank you for giving your love toward all the great artists that worked on Spiderverse! Thank you for also mentioning the connection between the Peanuts movie and Spiderverse (I tell you, I got so excited when your mentioned it). I freaking love the Peanuts movie and i hate how overlooked it is.

your channel is so nice, your voice is soothing and i really liked your opinion on the topic. i also loved the part where you searched up the people making the movie, credits in movies are so not taken seriously by the public that sometimes i forget they're even there. you looking up the people made me want to do that with future movies i watch. there are so many talented artists we never heard about and get hidden way it's crazy.
good vid hope your day's been good :)

This is definitely my the most entertaining video I've ever watch ESPECIALLY the attention, dedication, and care you give to the artists. I too also do this but in a smaller scale. I would, bookmarked, look at an artist other socials, like, rt, all the shi just to support their hard work.

Bro i gotta say i love this video and the way you filmed and edited it. Im a RUclipsr as well and I was trying to do a video during university last semester and it went so fucking bad. It was so hard to organize it and film and put it together while living in a dorm and not having anything I normally do. It seems like you had the same problems doing this video, but it turned out good anyway. Like the camera cutting out and the cut that you had to add to speak about the new info on the work conditions during the spider verse movie would have destroyed the video for me. But you just put it together and it worked really well and was still laid out nicely. Also i have adhd and i always want to put like every single thought i have into my videos but I always leave them out because I either forget or can’t find a way to put it in the video. It seems like you put every thought you had into the video but it also fits really well into the video to. It was honestly satisfying to watch because my brain always goes 1000 miles an hour watching RUclips videos and I’m always thinking of 100 things at once and it was like you spoke about all 100 of my thoughts every moment in the video before I could get to it. it was really satisfying. I’m almost embarrassed to post this long ass comment but I’m posting it anyway whatever.

other than that, well researched and entertaining on your end :) i could easily follow explanations and the comedic timing is chefs kiss
btw, english isn‘t my first language, but i think the title is not right, grammatically?? i think it‘s either what caused or what causes depending on tense

Ive never been the biggest movie analyst person ever but watching some of your videos, i think film is one of if not the best display of human creativity there is, so many uniquely crazy talented and passionate people making one big piece of art together… idk why im only just having this realization now, this is not that crazy of a take. Your videos are great though, keep it up :)

Wow hi! First off, fantastic job on this video. There are so many comments so you might not see mine and I wasn’t planning to write one until I read your description, but now I feel like keeping my thoughts to myself when awful people feel entitled to share theirs would be a mistake. I had no idea that smaller creators received such awful feedback as well. Like you have four videos and you’re STILL getting harassed?? Insane. So I totally get it if you feel that making these videos is too much work for such upsetting return. But I think you are doing a great job and the amount of time and research and effort that goes into these is INSANE. Your videos are always very funny and informative, and I always find that you bring up points I wouldn’t have considered otherwise. You have fantastic critical thinking skills! In closing, as your following increases I hope that you remember this is supposed to be something you enjoy and that you are never required to work to the point of stress and burnout just to meet the arbitrary expectations of the internet. You are doing this of your own volition and no one is entitled to your work. You are based and hell and fun to watch! Thanks again!!! :)

Eternal blessings to you for mentioning the artists in the project as much as you did. The Spiderverse movies are the first animated films in a LONG time where I felt like the artistic vision of the project was preserved, you could see and feel how much energy was put into them. I want to write every creative who worked on those films into my will, I want their names tattooed on my body, I will say a prayer for them before I go to sleep. They deserve to be treated SO MUCH BETTER by studios.
