Man Joshua I absolutely love the way you analyze art. Like your choice of words is literal perfection especially when perceiving Arrivabene work! How it depicts “A religious and holy experience as a parasitic growth on limbs and faces…” Like that’s is the epitome of what we are loo looking at!! New subscriber fasho

The first painting by Tanaka, the white being with the star shaped head… that thing on its head is a carnivorous sponge called a harp sponge. Its skeleton is made of glass. My dad was a sponge biologist and worked on the team that described this weird thing.

That polish artist that you mentioned, I am obsessed with his work, I love his grasp on pain and sorrow. Also I love how he embraces his feelings of the Holocaust and shared his imagining of things that happen in the end times. Like those skeletons coming out of the tomb to a bright light. Or that one painting of a hooded figure on a long podium, over a bunch of bodies with a figure looking behind the hooded figure. I NEED HIS ARTWORK

Zdzisław Beksiński was a one-of-a-kind artist whose works embodied an unsettling, humanless otherworldly surrealism. I’m happy that other artists like Suguru are carrying on his legacy.

More people who aren't older "veteran" artists should talk about artists like this! I just love to hear new perspectives and takes on the weird contemporary artists I like. You should check out Takato Yamamoto who does a sort of unique body horror but with an emphasis on beauty and gender, his art is genuinely so captivating.

At times I always had a love of creepy art and dark mythos and tales, like stories of monsters under my bed while I try not to wake up and cry type of emotion. And as a child given the internet at a young age, even video games gave me that fear like FNaF 4 since that changed me into fearing the dark and the sounds I hear at night. But the most terrifying thing ever was the simple things, and the choices by Suguru, Oleg, and Bibian, they’re all spaces you can put whatever you want into and let the person grow into the setting of the room. What does the astronaut think? Is the blood red floors breathing when I’m not? And why does the sheet never end, and will it have someone else on the other side? All the questions make me kick my legs as a writer and visual seeker and with a special sense I’ve gotten by seeing images or words. Mythos paintings too, like the ones portraying hunger and suffering, or the tales of The Sluagh (An Irish tale made from sounds) It gave me goosebumps reading and seeing these stories, and I loved it All of these artist make my skin grow hot and clammy like I’m reliving an anxious memory. That’s my own ramble but your pick of artist are trylamazing and diverse!! And I really like Tanaka and Oleg’s paintings, they really remind me of those stories I used to read in mythology class :)

dude ! I don’t know how else to say this but thank you for making this? My absolute favorite class I’ve ever taken was an art history class I took in highschool. We even went to chicago to see some of the pieces we studied in person. When I went to college though, (I was going for a bfa) my love for the subject just got ripped out of me, same goes for art making in general. I eventually just dropped out entirely, but every time I pick up my pencils or my microns I just get hit with a wall of dread. Seeing you talk so passionately about these amazing artists, their work, and what they invoke in you just reminded me of why I love this shit in the first place also kathë kollwitz is the best. Her engravings are so powerful, they feel like they were scratched out with her own fingernails on the walls of a prison cell
