    This clip is missing the crucial part at the end when he smacks down the big stack of cash on the counter for dramatic effect and proudly shows it off to the room before instantly realizing flaunting his cash wasn't such a great idea...

  • @chrismooney9275
    @chrismooney9275 6 лет назад +199

    Love it how Kramer gets some of the story wrong, because he doesn't really understand it.
    As in, in the original story, they were saying the owners were using undersized/young jockeys to get him into races with lighter horses - this is so he loses, and they can keep his real form (against horses his own size) secret.
    But in Kramer's version, the bugboy is the jockey in this race, and it's going to help (in some way!)

    • @jonathankeymer1775
      @jonathankeymer1775 4 года назад +11

      I loved the first line of your comment. You should have stopped there though. There's no such things as "horses his own size". I'm guessing that "getting in light" refers to the weights that Pumpernick's jockeys have been carrying in his previous claiming races or handicaps. We don't actually know if the bugboy is riding him on this day.

    • @slewofdamascus
      @slewofdamascus 4 года назад +13

      it's also a reference to the fact that "bug boys" seldom win (except for the rare instances), which is why they get 5-10lb "allowance" in the first year (or before they win 30 races, whichever comes first) - this is how young jockeys break intio the business. You can only learn by doing, and the trainer has to have an incentive, often trainers of longshots will look at the weight break as a potential advantage to hit the board. The system has worked a long time.

    Larry David ...scripts and dialogue...UNSURPASSED for ever.
    Man1: This, it's the fourth horse of the first race, Pappanick.
    Man2: How do you know it's going to win?
    Man1: My UPS-guy tells. Guys who own the horses are regular customers.
    Every horse he has ever given me has won.
    See, they've been sandbagging and looking for a good spot. He's been
    getting it light cause they've been using bug boy and the workout hasn't
    been published. Now they are ready to run with it. They are gonna break his
    maiden. It's going to go to great price, maybe 30:1. I'm telling you ,it's
    a lock.
    Man2: But it rained last night.
    Man1: Exactly, this horse loves the slop. It's in his bloodlines. His
    father was a mudda', his mother was a mudda'.
    Man2: His mudda' was a mudda'?
    Man1: What did I just say? Come on, let's go to the office, I'm going to
    call my bookie. Hey, don't tell anybody.
    *Kramer quickly turns away*
    *Kramer is in the "Off-track betting" office. He is talking with a guy
    behind in the line.*
    Kramer: Oh yeah, it's all set. They got the bug boy on him.
    Guy: The bug boy.
    Kramer: Yeah, the little father has run his hard out. They're gonna break
    his maiden.
    Guy: Really? But, it's a little bit slow out there it rained last night.
    Kramer: Oh, this baby loves the slob, loves it, eats it up. Eats the slob.
    Born in the slob. His father was a mudda'.
    Guy: His father was a mudda'?
    Kramer: His mother was a mudda'.
    Guy: His mother was a mudda'?
    Kramer: What did I just say?
    *Kramer gets to the cashier*
    Kramer: Hey,all right, 600 Pappanick to win.

  • @eajinabi
    @eajinabi 13 лет назад +10

    @JonteBK bugboy is an excercise rider/aprentice jockey who doesnt ride as much nor has much experience as veteran jockeys. Seeing that, odds of the horse will potentialy go up if people see that a inexperienced rider is on the horse. A maiden race are designated races for horses who have never won a race in thier career yet. Hence "breaking his maiden" means the horse won the maiden race and thus comes out of the maiden ranks.

    I haven't searched all 263 comments, but doesn't seem that anyone has noted that...well, first of all, I don't know in that year, if they had simulcasts at NYRA OTB because surely Trevor Denman wasn't calling an ordinary race from New York. More importantly, from the time he says "16th pole" until the horse crosses the finish line, is about 13 seconds...double the time a Thoroughbred needs to run 1/16th of a mile...
