I was hanging around with Paul Johnson in 2015 in DTLA. We'd go for walks and talk, both had apartments within a few minutes. He'd been through alot but always in good spirits. There were club jams nearby the LA core. He would tell me, "Hey, they just paid me to go to Italy for a week!" And he would come over and visit with his white Stratocaster. I miss him. Thanks for the Lesson!
I remember paying a dude $5 cash to teach me the bridge in this song (back in 1967). You know what $5 was back then? Like at least $50. Tom, where were you back then?! Great job as always on one of my top ten for life songs!! Rich
Cool man of to do some busking 🎸for the. Beach Hop. Coming up this weekend 🎸never heard that back in the 1960's wow don't know how i missed that one 🤣🎸😂🎸😅. Thank you for sharing 🙏
OK I have been with this song maybe 10 days not more than 30 min a day I can finally play along with you I have a few bumps so thank you this is a great song to learn great tutorial and you are a great guitar player you put it out there to understand burned in my memory muscle...RocknRollFlat5
Fantastic, you actually showed me some easier movements on this! I don't think I'll ever get tired of this song, it's just a lot of fun and sounds great.
I've been inspired by them too. I didn't know a lot of these songs. One thing I've noticed is that I prefer Nicole and Shermy's arrangement's to almost all of those I've heard by other artists back in the day or recently and in tutorials etc. Too often the demonstrator shows off too much or he's got a nasely twang to his sound that might be more suited in a rockabilly outfit. A harder edge. Obviously it's a matter of personal preference isn't it and trying to interest a range of musicians. We should all carry on doing it our way. It seems to me that the Surfrajettes play it more pure. More gracefully and more beautifully too.
@@chrisst8922 I find that too. They have good ears when it comes to interpretation in my opinion. A chance encounter with them on RUclips has me trying out many surf songs now, which were my first love when I got a guitar. I remember toiling away through Wipe Out and Cecelia Ann (Pixies) before getting distracted with other music.
Tom, you’re the man! I’ve learned so much from watching you play... I don’t read music or tabs but by watching your hands I can figure out the chords you’re using! Thanks! Keep them coming!
Thank you Tom for the lesson and the backing track. You've got the best surfguitar learning channel on youtube. It really helped me starting learning how to play surf guitar. This week i released Mr Moto on my channel. using your backing track and lessons. Thank you so much. Greetings, David
OMG you rock! I could never find the right “D” chord in this song and by watching you I found it! Thank you so much!!! I play along with several of your lessons every time I play.. thanks!
Tom Conlon another big thank you and a big plus in karma for this sample of the coolest surf ! (after "Surf Rider" my business in learning to play the electric guitar went up the hill. "Mr. Moto" I learned in 3 days ))) No! The song for a couple of hours and the solo took an hour of time, everything else increased speed and polished the performance. I really liked it ! (and now, like Surf Rider, I play Mr. Moto to the point of exhaustion (yourself and your neighbors hee hee ! )) The one who composed this music is really a genius ! (well, a boy of 20 can't write such a thing !?) And this melody of the 60s "inserts" and even today ! Oh, and more ! You have a great presentation of the material for training - a live game is combined with tablature. Thank you again ! I've grown one more song ! (I hope the Google translator is not mistaken in anything ?)
Darn, Almost have it all down except for the part at 1:05 starting on the 19th fret of the D string thru the whole high end riffs. Wish i could slow it down some to learn it better and faster. Love your style....
Does Russia have a big surf following in the last few years? I keep seeing more and more russians talking about and listening to surf music. And also a few really good surf bands out of your country. Messer Chups is my favorite surf band to listen to nowadays and they're from St. Petersburg. Really awesome to see this style of music reach so far. I know that Koreans are also really into surf rock as well.
I decided to learn this from your video because I started liking the 1937 - 1939 Mr. Moto movies that Peter Lorre starred in. Not that this song seems to have much to do with the old series except for the name, but still.
I like your style been wanting and practicing Mr. Moto the Motorola Smart phone..I am getting but I won't it burned in my memory I say this week I'll have down then I'll go on to the next. And the new Jazz Masters the performer model has a vintage 6 screw whammy bridge what you take on that I never even seen or played a jazz master only youtube...RocknRollFlat5
Gosh perfect... I've heard so many many versions over the years. I wonder if you can play just what sounds good these days? Does the bridge, (middle part) sound a bit like the Munsters Theme to anyone...sounds like some of it to me.
I would like to make some Venture songs to share with others. How about a video on how you make you backing tracks... Please help the folks who don't know how.
Great, well played and thank you for this complete with Tabs. Nice placement of the Tab at the top (placement at the bottom gets obscured by the slider bar on an Android device). I generally avoid Tabs and prefer to look at the left and right hand position and movements, but on some videos the right (picking) hand is not shown, or it is played too fast to work out what's going on.
Thank you! I will keep in mind Tab placement in the future considering the issue you mentioned. (I just uploaded one with tabs at the bottom...) thanks again.
@@tomcon21 I just had a quick look (another new tune for me), you use large tabs which are less likely to get covered by the slider bar when paused 👍. Another relatively rare surf tune is 'Hurricane' by Conrad and The Hurricane Strings (also on here). The Surfrajettes do a good live version on here. That's one I want to learn.

Listening to one of these in the middle of January instantly transports me to sunshine, sand, and surf, in California.
Great lesson. Thanks Tom !
After catching the SURFRAJETTES I;ve got the bug to play surf THEY are awsome.

Hi Tom, is there a way to get a full tab sheet for this song?
