Awesome! Everybody love Surf music. If they say No. Ask then what song they like from any Tarantino movie. Born 1960
San Diego. Then to Orange county. Literally grew up with these Tunes. Absolutely love them. Love the way Tom plays too I'm new to your channel.
Nothing like finding a decent pair of roller skates in the early 60s. When Clay wheels came out. On a set of tracker trucks on a Logan Earth Ski. Right before these guys said they Wanted us to try these new polyurethane Wheels with German
No LUBE needle bearings. We all said WHAT!
Holy guacamole Batman. Total game changer.
Born in E. LA '56, grew up in Orange County. Big part of my youth!! Countless days at Huntington Beach around lifeguard station 17
I LOVE listening to this reverb-drenched music! I saw the Ventures in concert about 20 years ago. The crowd was out of their seats dancing after the first note! By the way, Nokie Edwards was one of the most INCREDIBLE rock guitarists to ever stand on a stage! Nokie, along with the legendary Dick Dale, practically INVENTED surf music back in the 60’s...both men should get the recognition they truly DESERVE!
i agree and disagree the Ventures were really never a Surf band like a lot of people think
Dick Dale straight surf oh yeah/had help from Leo Fender Dual Showman you know how many Amps thy blew up before getting it right?this and Fender's Outboard reverb unit make what the real sound of surf is
I love surf music. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and this was the first guitar sound I ever really heard. Growing up on the beach made it even more fantastic. I hope I can play it someday as good as you, I'll give it a run.🎸Thanks Man.
Thanks William!

Makes me want a jazzmaster.
Ian Board i got a jaguar yesterday and it sounds so awesome am now getting in to surf rock
I got jaguar to..ahhh that sound with fender equipment
I bought a new Squier Jaguar about 7 years ago. Surf green, but I hate the bridge, not fond of the tuners either. It doesn't play like a Fender American, that's for sure!
The "tone" is perfect and so is the playing. Some cats use too much Rev/Trem. But you have the right balance for my ear and liking. Well done 👍🎸🎸🎸🎸🎵🎶
Thank you!
Well done
@M. S. There's no such thing lol
@M. S. Spring reverb.
The added reverberations that help create the wooshy, wavey and watery sound colors for a big part.
Is that a Jaguar or jazzmaster?
I think we should be leaving...
Thats probably a good idea
Ahahahah
Ahh, the tones... very tasty. The reverb, lush, but not too over washed. Perfect.
Thank you
Just needed a bit more surf drip!
This takes me to another dimension
Most people don’t realize that “Surf Rider” was originally named “Spudnik”, a play on the Russian satellite Sputnik, and was written by The Ventures’ lead player, Nokie Edwards, shortly after at that Satellite went into orbit, which was before the Surf craze. When Surf Instrumentals became the rage, in the early to mid-1960s The Ventures changed the name of the song to “Surf Rider” and included it on the their Surfing album. It’s one of the many tidbits of Ventures lore that my friend Nokie shared with me. Sadly, he died last year.
👍
I was confused as to why it was called Sputnik on one album and surf rider on another later album... that’s a cool story , thanks for sharing it!
Awesome. Do you know why/ how I keep getting notifications that the ventures have a new album? Like every few months lol.
@@jeffhussey1089 The Ventures released it originally as Spudnik on their Mashed Potatoes and Gravy album. Later the Lively Ones asked permission to use part of the song on one of their own. As it turned out, they copied it note for note, calling it Surf Rider. The Ventures earned royalties for the song, so going forward they dropped Spudnik and referred to their version as Surf Rider too.
Thanks a lot.... no lo..sabia.... pero si sabia que es una cancion de surf riders....maravillosa...gracias bendiciones!!!! Saludos desde Lima Peru y desde las olas del .mar!!!! No importan los wipe outs😆
"Zed is dead baby,Zed is dead..."
Nope. The quote is Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.
ruclips.net/video/5lL1ypndnWA/видео.html
"its not a motorbike, it's a chopper"
What happened to my Honda?
Who’s motorcycle is this? It’s a chopper, baby. Who’s chopper is this? Zed’s, baby. Who is Zed? Zed is dead, baby, Zed is dead.
Roll credits!
Can't get enough of this
OMG finally a tutorial for the advanced, im a private music teacher and videos in this format save me soooooo much time, thank you man.
Thanks!
🚩Man, you have taught me more in just two songs, then learning in two years. Was never a big fan of Tabs, You just changed that. Thanks
I want a jazz master now this is fucking awesome
Me too
I bought a Jaguar, I prefer it to the Jazz master!
fantastic cover the reverb is awesome every good surf rock song needs a good amount of verb and its perfect
Learned to play entire song in about an hour, thanks to your outstanding video!
Thank you so much!
Great!
Check out Bruce Lindquist on RUclips. He's posted a ton of surf tunes over the last few years!
It's a bomb ! I play this melody with pleasure ! This guy's a master . Thanks !
Thank you!
Wasn't looking for this but I sure did like it. Drumming too is so solid & well- regulated. Doesn't call attention to itself but really makes " the sound" complete.
Thank you!
epic like a movie sountrack surf almost spaghetti western movie score
I'm giggling like a schoolgirl playing along with this as I learn it. A great tune and very well played.
I remember 50 years ago when I start playing the guitar !
About the same for me! I loved surfing and surf guitar when I started playing back in 1968! Still play. Have you ever heard of Bruce Lindquist? He's got a ton of surf tunes on RUclips!
It's only been 15 seconds and you already got my like
RUclips at its finest
Nice use of the whammy!
Thanks!
Best song ever
Written and Directed by
Quentin Tarantino
Actually this song was written by Nokie EdwardsTHE GUY FROM THE VENTURES
@@josephesposito3499 I was quoting a movie, where this song plays and title card says what it says
after one of the most edge of your seat moments in movie history in the Dinner, you get this badass/relaxing song
pas du tout! c'est the ventures!
@Panthera Metal Joseph is right. Surf Rider was written by Nokie Edwards in 1963. It was played in the film Pulp Fiction 1994 by The Lively Ones.
WOW... What an awesome lesson. I learned this in an hour. THANKS!!!!
Glad it helped!
Perfect tone
Thanks for uploading this the tabs combined with your excellent playing and camera quality allowed me to nail this in 30 mins.
Bruce Lindquist has similar videos on RUclips, tabs too. Lots of surf tunes!
Das war super Musik höre ich heute auch noch gerne und habe viele CD ❤😊
Dislikes are from people who ate a kahuna burger instead of a royale with cheese
Come here when I saw the guitar...stayed for the great playing!! Awesome!
Thanks!😊
Hi, thank you for making this video. I've been trying to get the notes by earing, but with the tabs included which are so clearly explained, plus the backing tracks i believe it is a great help not for me only, but to all those who want to learn how to play it also. Two thumbs up!. Greetings from Santiago, Chile.
Thank you, I’m glad my videos are helping!
Thanks for the tabs!!
Check out Bruce Lindquist on RUclips! He's posted a ton of surf tunes over the years!

Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Don't forget Dick Dale!
Wow this is perfect
I know this is a lesson but wow the tone you have is so soothing
Thank you ♥️
those are whole step bends in the lead I believe. such a compelling but simple tune.
There's something really catchy about surf guitar, nicely played Tom.
I'm all of a sudden thirsty for spiked lemonade. That sound is great.
Thank you Shawn!
Thank you Tom, greatly appreciated.
Beautiful
Thanks!
That was EXCELLENT, man.
Thanks!
I came as Vicent Vega and Jules Winfield left, I stayed for the awesome riff
Sounds weird but I'm just now realizing I love surf music. I only have an acoustic but I'm still gonna enjoy playing this. If I'm able haha.
Nice! Thank you! I've tried so many times to get this song right, to me this is a precious gift. After decades of trying I am finally able to make more than 2 notes that sound right when I play. This video has already helped me more than I can say. Who knows, I may just be able to play half decently before I croak.
Glad it’s helping and thank you for watching!
bliss
Tonlama ve bend harika
Bro! Thanks so much for this. Between this and Los Straightjackets “tailspin” YOU taught me how to play this properly and I thank you so much for that. Great Job!
This one of the coolest thing I found I love surf music. Thanks for all your tabs. Your sound is spot on too.
Thanks man, first of all is this absolutely amazing playing and a wonderful tasty tone with a guitar to fall in love with but it is also a superb lesson. Learned the song quicker this way than with a "proper" lesson or tutorial video.
Rock on mate!
Check out Bruce Lindquist on RUclips for a ton of surf guitar lessons!
Every time I leave the school with ma bois, this plays in my head.
At 54, I just started playing and picked this as one of my two first songs to learn(The other is Rumble). This tab is slightly different than the Ultimate Guitar one, but I prefer this version. Playing YT at half speed is just about the perfect learning speed.
Thanks man
This one's fun to play and super easy to learn. I have a perfect pedal set up for this too.
How you getting that twang? My 25w fender amp sounds like shit...
Man I liked this video so i can learn to play it later. Today's the day, I connected a delay pedal into a chorus pedal and into a multieffect pedal with a bunch of different filters and I got the sound. The song itself is super easy to learn and memorize. The hardest part is getting down the correct timing and play with the right rhythm.
Anyways im so glad I spent a few minutes to learn this one, it's really fun to play and relaxing. Its one of those songs that sound really complicated but is actual super simple and easy to play. I really appreciate the on screen notations. I just subscribed to the channel.
Thanks!!!
Good lesson.
Beautiful!
me encanta!! que trabajo enhorabuena Tom desde Madrid (Spain) 🇪🇸
Enjoyed the Holiday Inn set during happy hour on Thursday. Seem down to earth and drinks half price...
Need a Moto right now!
Mr. Moto! Yes !
Thanks alot!!
Super accurate!
Thank you so much Tom! Your tutorials are perfect! I began with this one a few weeks ago and I think its a great start for surf style guitar!
Your backing track downloads are of really good quality also! Thank you for all your guidance, in my personal guitar struggles ha!
Best wishes!
Well done mate! Perfect tone! And you also knew how to use the whammy bar properly! Keep rockin'! 👊😎
Thanks!
Tom, love your surf cover/lessons. The efficiency of tabs superimposed with hand position is a truly amazing way of teaching. Please consider either "Rescue At Mavericks" or "Speedboat" by The Torquays.
Will take a listen. Thank you!
I love the covers you are posting. The tabs are also fantastic as well. Keep up the good playing brother!
Thank you, that means a lot!

Great way to do lessons. Thanks brother. 😁🎸🎶🎶🎶
Thanks!
I really like the play along style of your videos. It's awesome
Thank you
Man - thank you very much
Sounds great!! And I dig the Classic Player Jazzmaster Special!! I have the same guitar but gold pickguard instead of the tortoiseshell (which is rad too).
Amazing stuff dude, am learning so much from your videos and tabs. stay safe.
Holy suntan lotion Batman! That actually looks relatively easy to play.
Have fun!
pschroeter1 This one is “deceptively” simply. I’ve been playing it for years now, but I remember when I first decided to learn it (back in the 1960s), I thought it would be breeze, not so - at least not to be able to play it as fluidly and as well as you saw it played in this video.
@@hankunck2089 I highly highly disagree. (Which is fair since i doubt we have similar playing styles) I learned this whole song in about 30-40 minutes. I think it sounds really difficult to play but is actually very easy. The only thing that can cause trouble and requires a couple days of practice is getting the timing right. The notes and arpeggios are really easy it's just playing with the correct Rhythm on the correct Beats comes with a little more time. But if you are a somewhat seasoned player, you should be able to memorize and play this within a few hours max.
Yeah I also say that your tone is perfect also, love that instrumental I first discovered it on the soundtrack while they were playing the credits at the end of the movie Pulp Fiction and had to find out who performed it, after that I recorded it and play it back often as well as "Rumble" by Link Ray & the Wraymen during the same movie's diner scene.
Thank you Carmine!
