These girls have a great story similar to the Ventures. Both played guitar in high school bands, but not together. After they graduated, neither picked up a guitar for 10 years. Shermy (blond) was at her job one day and blurted out she was going to form an all female surf band called The Surfrajettes. She tracked down Nicole who she really didn't know, just knowing her as the "other" female guitar player at school. They hit it off, moved in together and re-learned guitar together. With in a few months they got a gig at a small bar and recruited a drummer and a bass player. The bass player they have now (Sarah) is a neighbor who's a school teacher, but played upright bass in a band some years ago. They now have a totally kick ass drummer from Cleveland named Annie. They have cut an LP a bunch of singles and have a second LP coming out in October. They have toured the entire country in a mini van several times, been to Spain, the UK and Estonia recently. In 10 years they have gone from a random idea to a full time bundle of sunshine. Pretty remarkable stuff.
Another fact is Nicole was playing a Gibson Les Paul before The Surfrajettes as she really loved Jimmy Page's playing but it didn't fit the surf guitar sound so she bought a burgundy Fender Stratocaster which has a great clean sound
I just saw a video with their bass player and drummer. All wearing gold mini skirts and white go go boots with the sixties hair and I have been blown away.
*In another video I called their band "Cheeky~Chicks" .... Unfortunately, at that time, I had absolutely no idea, that they are my fellows from Canada* :o)) Eh?
I learned a long time ago that "simple" and "easy" aren't synonymous... regarding guitar and a lot of other things in life. There's so little room for error with surf music and country.
Thanks, Norman, for introducing America to the Surfrajettes. Your love of music lives on and oh my, how these young talented ladies have blossomed! Bigger and better than ever... One of the most unique and entertaining bands currently playing.
I'm 55 years old and only started taking a deep dive into "surf rock" in 2020. Thanks in no small part to The Surfrajettes videos being recommended to me on youtube. It's not like I was unfamiliar with Dick Dale etc. but I never really drank deeply from the cup of dripping twang until a few months ago.
This is the video that been inspired me to teach myself how to play surf guitar three years ago. Today, I am heading out to play my first ever summer festival as a street musician playing a set of surf music. I hope to someday get a chance to thank both of you for inspiring me, but in the meantime, will simply say thanks here
These girls are something special. they have a few videos up on RUclips that are well worth a look. Also, kudos for picking out that Surf Green metallic Danoelectric. Perfect for surf tones.
I miss Norm so much. I live a couple of miles from the shop for decades but I’ve moved east. Great guy, great shop. These gals are incredibly accurate.
The Danelectro sounds so nice. 🔥 Nicole and Shermy have a nice chemistry while playing together that's rare to find nowadays in music. I love you guys and your music. Phenomenal!!! The last chord at 3:10 and the very last note played uh, great!! It gives a really mysterious vibe to the song. Awesome!!!
Going down the comments (admittedly usually a bad idea) I hear a lot of back and forth about whether this is any good, or as good as current music, or if it sucks, etc. Look, if you are wasting any breath or keystrokes on this, you are missing the point. This is fun music and they are playing it to have fun and maybe make a few bucks from gigs, etc. This is not really about trying to create great art, and neither is most popular music. And that's not a slam on pop music, modern or old school. It's entertainment and if you enjoy it, that's all the justification needed. If you don't like it and comment underneath someone's video about how stupid or lame or whatever, it says way more about you than it does about what these young women are doing. I think it sounds cool and I'm grateful to Normans Rare Guitars for sharing it with the world.
Concur. My wife is a very talented artist. She concentrates in oil and wax. As she says, its awesome seeing works in small galleries even if they are not the ultimate because people are putting themselves out there and creating.
Unless you have first hand knowledge of these girls' motivations for playing this music then don't comment on it as such. I think they take the music and themselves very seriously. You are obviously not a musician. This is something more than a rehash of the past.
So , in short , are you trying to say , hey , it's fun an cool , roll with it , cause one of them love Zeppelin too , but nice book bro , lol , just kidding but it is funny as shit , peace
They are as cool as the stones , Hendrix , zep , bowie , it was an era of time an they nailed it , they play beautifully , look beautiful an thankful they did it
This sounds amazing. Girls are great, sound so 60's. Sorry I am not live in the US but when I come next time I have to visit this shop, I really would love to see and buy some guitars. Looks like a heaven to me.
Norm is such a kind awesome human being.. Love how he welcomed these girls who are fantastic musicians into his shop and gave them the spotlight! Thanks Norm for your wonderful videos! Keep up the great work! It's time for another Frank Stallone video can't get enough of him!! Tell him to get his butt down there and do it he has fans out here! And there's no better place for him to support them than Norm's rare guitars😎
I was raised on this kind of Surf Music, Dick Dale and his Del Tones, The Surfari's, The Ventures were all over my household all day long. Both my mother and father were surfers from the early 60's, they lived it and would to the Rendevoux in Balboa and do the Surfer Stomp all night long before falling asleep on the beach. This music is great to hear again...
They are very good, I like their surf sound and the way the band as a whole have fully embraced the retro look with their varied and colourful choice of guitars, amps, clothes and hairstyles.
The style they were playing was similar to our music during the 60s in Malaya @ Malaysia. People at that era call it Pop Yeh Yeh. Thank you Canadian girls you guys are truly a great musician.
Absolutely Love these Ladies... The full band is awesome too... Keeping this tone and music alive is truly fantastic... No vocals very Venture-esque !!!
Their cover of "Toxic" is awesome. I've had it stuck in my head for weeks. Great band, I would buy a studio album as soon as they released one, which is hopefully soon.
I never understood why people thumbs down stuff, they play they are having fun .Are the 24 superior players I don't get it if you don't like guitars and different people playing why bother watching. I play horrible but I have fun I ain't trying to make a living at it ! Nuff Said ! JB
Wow!! These two sound incredible together! This was so fun and enjoyable to listen to and watch their groovin’ to the tune!! This is a great video and i hope for success for both ladies! Outstanding and excellent!!
Wow ! " Mr. Moto" and" Surfrider" Dynamic sound--even without bass or drum percussion ! (I thought you might add "Pipeline" to the mix --but always leave 'm wanting more !) Good job ! Surfragettes name is genius !
I have to say I'm utterly smitten with Nicole. It's lovely to see her smile here because on all the live videos I've seen she always looks so serious, probably due to being focused on her excellent guitar work. Lovely ladies and a lovely sound. Keep up the great work 😘
Thank you Norman's Rare Guitars! I've been a fan of your channel for a while and this video came up when I was watching your old uploads. I just watched a ton of Surfrajettes videos and they're my new favourite band. Sensational!
I really enjoyed this. There are a lot of great musicians coming out of Canada. I'm very impressed with their music and their love for American classic music.
Definitely reminds this old man of the surf music I was so fond of in the 60s. Listen to "the trash men" very reminiscent that era "beach boys" "the astronauts "love them.
I saw them at The Dakota when I was in Toronto a little while back. Great band. Great vibe. Someone sign these ladies and make them rich. They totally deserve it.
Norman.. girls girls from Canada are good. I watch all your videos I'm so glad you give kids a platform because my son started playing guitar when he was 12 he owns 36 guitars now. he lives in Jacksonville Florida. he can go in a bar and band members want him to come up there and play.. Lynyrd Skynyrd's bar in Jacksonville Beach Florida he plays in there. he will always jam out in people's guitar stores and I'm so thankful for the people that own guitar shops that allow these kids to have a platform and I'd like to thank you Norman. Cyndia Dawson
Been a surfer since the '60s and still can't get that music out of my head......and these chick's play some awesomesauce tunes...check them out at the Regency(?) in Arlington MA/2017.
I listened to their Toxic cover at least that many times and catching up on this one. I am ready to propose to Nicole or Sara (the base player - she is not in this vid).
SIGN THEM UP!!! These Wonderful Musicians/ Beautiful Women Need a RECORDING CONTRACT PRONTO! It's so nice to see younger people embracing a Style and Time of Music WELL BEFORE THEIR TIME. It's a Testament to the Songs AND the Musicians, this is Music that Originated in My Generation......These young Ladies are REALLY COOL, So Nice to see.....🎸💚
No way, don't let a label ruin them. They can do much more on their own with the support of fans like you and me. To hell with record companies. In a few years, there won't be any.
I love how surf music can feel so upbeat and mesmerizing, while ominous and unsettling at the same time. Beautiful.
These girls have a great story similar to the Ventures. Both played guitar in high school bands, but not together. After they graduated, neither picked up a guitar for 10 years. great.. thanks for backstory 👍

Showed this to my 5 year old daughter who LOVES guitar. Thanks for giving her an awesome display of female players! Love it!!
Great education, mate! Congrats.
Now, that's some great parenting! Keep up the good work. 🎸
what a sexist comment.
Highly suggest showing her more of The Surfrajettes content thats online, they rock!
2021
These two guitarists clearly know each other well. They play nicely off each other’s phrases while keeping the melody in frame. Good stuff.
Nichole and Shermy went to high school together.
And they do this while sticking Surf Rider in the middle of Mr. Moto, AND switching lead & rhythm players while doing it.
"go-go boots" 🤣
Yes! I saw that too and that lead me to Norms! Fun music and they play it well.
These ladies have blown up since this. They are the jam! So much reverb, I love it!
Anyone who thinks surf music is "easy" should actually try playing it. And I mean playing it that cleanly and accurately with that clean of a tone.
That's spot on
I know! I tried and had a tough time with all the freakin' sand and salt water. :-)
And I'm sure critics could play it that perfect in a random place without a backing band as well
I learned a long time ago that "simple" and "easy" aren't synonymous... regarding guitar and a lot of other things in life. There's so little room for error with surf music and country.
Amen I play drums in a surf band at home
This is one of my favorites sounds and styles of electric guitar. Very Pure.
Thanks, Norman, for introducing America to the Surfrajettes. Your love of music lives on and oh my, how these young talented ladies have blossomed! Bigger and better than ever... One of the most unique and entertaining bands currently playing.

I've been a HUGE fan since hte first time I ever saw them!! Dick Dale would be proud!!
I've viewed this AT LEAST 100 times.
Keep coming back to it 'cause it puts a smile on my face. Every time !
these girls are so fun I can't believe how good they bring surf music back I can't get enough of their covers so good
I love these Ladies. They are refreshing, a resurgence of traditional Surf style. Great players!
This is GOOD, such a refreshing sound ! These girls are great, well done and thankyou 🎸😁👍
These young ladys are really good and sound very authentic. I wish good luck to them on recording their music.
jon lennon first they have to write some music.
Why? Lots of people record other peoples music.
Yes, especially in surf music!
says who? music has many layers and even more ways to interpret it. as long as their music appeals to listeners, who cares who wrote them?
well, at least we know who the ass-holes are :~
There is still hope for our youth!!!! Awesome
Love the seamless transition from mr. moto to surf rider & back! Brilliant!
7 years later and the Surfragettes are a household name! Thanks, Norm!
This is the video that been inspired me to teach myself how to play surf guitar three years ago. Norm, Thank you for introducing US to one truly Cool up and coming band. Best part both guitars have their price tags hanging.
Shermy and Nicole are absolutely fantastic duo!
Woke up this mornin' with a Sherman in my hand.....
Super cool of Norm to promote/highlight those getting started in their music careers.

Norman's House Of Reverb. Man that was some good playing and glad I stumbled across these gals!
The style they were playing was similar to our music during the 60s in Malaya @ Malaysia. People at that era call it Pop Yeh Yeh. Thank you Canadian girls you guys are truly a great musician.
This is where I first saw these girls and I have been watching all their videos and love the music they are making. 🎸🎶👍

jeffrey biscoe wrong gender. Mysogenist pigs threatened, probably hate anything not Lynard Skinner
How do I like this more than once?
jeffrey biscoe a lot of egos watch this channel that’s why. I’m on your side.
The Danelectro, and The Jaguar, should have just been given to these musicians,
No questions asked.............
Agreed.
You're no businessman Billy.
You fucking trolls. Grow up
Businesses can't afford to give away their stock otherwise they would not be in business long!
Normally the brunette uses a Strat and the blond already has a Jaguar
Wow!! These two sound incredible together! This was so fun and enjoyable to listen to and watch their groovin’ to the tune!! This is a great video and i hope for success for both ladies! Outstanding and excellent!!
They definitely have a great rhythm together , watching them they know how to play off each other!!❤️
Wow ! " Mr. Moto" and" Surfrider" Dynamic sound--even without bass or drum percussion ! (I thought you might add "Pipeline" to the mix --but always leave 'm wanting more !) Good job ! Surfragettes name is genius !
That is a sweet Dano'. Hey Norm you need to get Mark to show us some Old School Danelectros on that other show.
Yes lawd, please man!
Mmmm, well if Weird Wednesdays become a thing, why not there?
Amazing, hope an album will soon be released...
I have watched this several times along with all thevideos i can find of them. Amazing!
THANKS NORM. Big fan of these girls, love Surf music I was lucky to see the Ventures as a kid. They inspired me to play guitar.
Oh my Lawd. Some of the comments in here remind me that as a society, we have a LONG way to go.
Girls, awesome playing. Really enjoyed that.
The fact that they play older guitars is awesome love the surf green Dan electro
I've been a ventures fan since the 60's I am so happy to see the torch has been passed on good job girls you have a new fan !!

unbelievable how good they are!!!!
Sounds great! Reminds me of one of my favorite bands Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet.
Another great batch of Canucks!
kith heads
Because the middle section is from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. They're just playing a blend of two cover songs.
Ah dude I've never met anyone who knows them too. That band rocks
Yeah it's a mix of Surf Rock from Pulp Fiction and the solo riff from a Sublime song called "Seed"
Thank You young ladies,so minded of the early 60s "Surf Music". in southern Calif.
Excellent! Great playing. Great sound.
2 words, ROCK STARS!!!!!
To hell with the cow bell, I need more reverb!!! Lol!
Norm, thank you sooooo much for sharing this, you sir are the MAN!!!!!!
That was beautiful.
Hope they go mainstrem, they got talent and there's so much talent that goes unoticed
Finally, a Jaguar being used for the genre that it was created for!
Well done! A great compliment, to each other!!
The Wedge
Absolutely!!!
A Jag or Jazzmaster is nice
Don’t limit your imagination!
Yeah, but the budget priced, masonite, east coast competitor designed Dano is playing the lead.
I have been following these ladies for a while now and got a chance to finally see and meet them. They are really really good.
Love 'em! They deserve millions for their talent.
Nice. Very rockabilly/cali surf scene circa 1960
Gotta love a good set of players with a good set of single coils
Well said.
They look like a nice set of humbuckers to me. Wow, and the blondie can spell as well.
Sorry dude, single coils for sure. Lipstick on the Danelectro and a single on the Fender. Singles rule surf!!!
rack mounted effects. sorry, could not resist. They're very good musicians.
need whammy bar
People still listening and playing this stuff. Wonderful.
I really enjoyed this. There are a lot of great musicians coming out of Canada. I'm very impressed with their music and their love for American classic music.
These talented women are just AWESOME! I LOVE this band!
Is it just me or this just puts everyone in the mood to surf?!
Well, they use sled dogs running on the bank to pull skiers.
It's just you.
Get em nice and bloody as Hell along with a Martin and Lewis milkshake at Jackrabbit Slims!
Telmo Roque YES!!!
These girls are brilliant - love their videos - always looking cool and sounding great!! 😁👍
2022
Just love the sound!!! Rock on!!!
Great playing, lots of talent
Love 'these guys', playing together forever and a great f'ing band, been checking out their live clips.
This was the video that got me hooked thanks Norm
Three cheers for reverb!
And all e.q.s at noon. . . .
michael gallegos not enough people use it. I love it.
It's easier to just give one cheer for echo? ;)
John Davis clever haha
I was unaware of that site but, man, they've got some nice stuff! Thanks!
These girls are awesome. Great musicianship.
Definitely reminds this old man of the surf music I was so fond of in the 60s. Listen to "the trash men" very reminiscent that era "beach boys" "the astronauts "love them.
Thanks,Norm's guitars for the plug! I just love these girls and their remix of great memories. Hope to hear more soon!
These lovely, talented guitar players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cool shop too!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw them at The Dakota when I was in Toronto a little while back. Great band. Great vibe. Someone sign these ladies and make them rich. They totally deserve it.
Great players and on top of that they're absolutely gorgeous!
A great sound. Melodic and very interesting. I'd buy that on iTunes.
I've watching the Surfrajettes for a few years now. They're awesome!

Just want say,Special Thank You’s!! Loved every minute of it.. so gifted and a joy that I got to hear you play. Keep it going 🙏 Big Fan!! 👍🌺❤️
At 4:05 Shermy points at Norman's shirt which says "Reverb" and he doesn't get it and goes in for a handshake :)
Bernhard Häussner he literally hung out with Jesus back in the day. Give the old bastard a break.
This world not only needs more Surf and Spring Reverb, but we need more women that surf the tides of spring reverb ❤️
I'm working on it.
I think they are great ! :)
Wow! These girls are good! We should have more of their music!
Lovely ladies. Sounds great. I miss this type of music. I remember listen to my moms beach boy 8 track. Good times.
