Well now this is an interesting video and I have had my sig Sauer p322 since I could get my hands on one. I have fired probably close to 3000 rounds of all different types of 22 ammo and some has been non-plated, with excellent results. I have noticed absolutely no leading in my barrel even after shooting it for 2 or 300 rounds without cleaning. My p322 has been a excellent shooter and very reliable.

David my experience as well. Firing jacketed and non jacketed ammunition. Just normal carbon and a little lead in the grooves. Especially with non jacketed. Easily removed with a couple swipes of a bore brush. And only multiple magazines of ammo fired. My opinion, a great gun to target and plink shooting. Also a great training gun. Simply FUN to shoot.

I bought a brand new one about a month and a half ago. Put 100 rounds of Winchester jacketed hollow points through it and had the worst leading I have ever seen on any gun. Wish I could post pictures with my comment because it was beyond belief. To the point that I had to soak it in lead remover because you couldn’t even get a cleaning rod through it.

I’m a great fan of yours, I love all the videos and information and opinions you put out. I bought my Sig P322 when it first came out. Then before I shot I seen videos on the lead issues. Well unfortunately I tested mine and after 80 rounds I had lead filling up the barrel. I was using CCI, Thunderbolt, and Wildcat ammo. I reached out to Sig they promptly send the packing to send back. It took about 4.5 months to get the firearm back. The rep said I was getting a newer production barrel. I tested with the ammo they said they used to test fire. Awesome no issues. So I put it to the text. Thunderbolt, federal bulk, all the lower end ammo you could say. Well im excited to say after 300 no cleaning absolutely no fouling. Hope this helps. 😊

Hope to take it to range soon with a couple more pistols I’ve picked up in last month. This and honest outlaws videos sold me on it. I’ve been looking for another 22 semi auto pistol that is close to the size pistol I daily carry. I like to shoot a lot so running a lot of cheap 22 lr to keep working on my grip and other mechanics makes sense to me. Thanks again.

I bought one yesterday and I've already put 1200 rounds through it. No leading issues. One thing to note is you really have to load the magazines carefully. If the bullets are not perfectly aligned in the magazine, you will get failure to feed and failure to eject. Once you master the magazine loading it's a fun little gun

I have had mine for several months, but only a few hundred rounds through it. Absolutely no leading with both lubed-lead & copper plated ammo. 5 mags for 100-round shooting fun. Plus, I added the aftermarket, short-reset flat trigger. Resets faster for quicker follow-up shots.
Those who have had failures-to-fire or light strikes, clean, lube & manually work the firing pin a few dozen times then flush it out & lube again. There may be assembly grit or rough surfaces on the firing pin. This procedure cleared-up my issues.
Only other (minor) drawback is the plastic sounds of the polymer frame, but I will get used to it. This is my first polymer HG.

I have had my P322 for a few weeks, I have only had it at the range once and only put 100 or so rounds through it, but no leading at all (from what I had seen online those that had the issue were seeing it with less than 100 rounds). I love shooting it. I think it is an amazing gun and definitely good for starting first time shooters with. Also it is just fun to shoot. Now I am considering a suppressor, that looks like a lot of fun.

Got one about a month ago, have put 900 rounds through it (300 per session), no issues. Caveat, I use CCI 40 grain, copper coated round nose (target) rounds or the 29 grain Federal Punch, no lead, and I clean the gun after each session. Fun and cheap to shoot, pretty much no recoil, and once I got familiar with the trigger, pretty spot on from 7 to 15 yards.

I got one this past summer from Bud's. It leads terribly with several brands of ammunition. Some brands only take two magazines and the barrel is clogged and the bullets keyhole. I have been repeatedly polishing the barrel with JB and Iosso polish and only shoot CCI Standard Velocity, CCI Blazers and Norma Tac22 and the leading stopped. The magazines are also finnicky they don't stack some bullet profiles just right and will jam. Other than all this I like the little pistol from a rest it groups really good at 20 yards. The optics cut is a big plus I immediately got rid of the cheezy plastic sight and put a Holosun on it. Runs great with a YHM Mite suppressor.

Leading is a problem for many Sig 322 owners. It's purely luck if you get a Sig 322 that doesn't lead up It's barrel... So if you're feeling lucky, get one. It won't take long to figure out how lucky you are afterwards... The barrel will let you know. If you're unlucky, hang on, because you're about to go on the Sig 322 roller coaster ride... Let the buyer beware, and good luck!

Back when i got the walther p22q, and was happy with it, sig came out with their p322 with the mag capacity and made me jealous. Sig always does that to me. Walther is more compact, cheaper, and has features i prefer, and rugerSR's are nice, but the sig is the class leader. I shoot norma tac 22 and Remington golden. Unplated lead is going to cause problems with anything. First gen walther p22 was finicky with weaker loads but their mags evolved and the 2nd gen p22q is a redesign that looks like a shrunken ppq with thicker slide, deeper serrations, updated rail, and some machining of the internals. There is a 3rd gen p22qd with decocker and captured recoil spring, but the 2nd gen is reliable with any ammo and suppressor ready. If i had waited a year i may have gone with the sig, though.

There will be no barrel leading with plated HV 22 ammo. I've never had any bore leading with SV nonplated 22 ammo either. BUT, what you will find is that the SV lead ammo is dirtier and will eventually gob up around the extractor groves and action of a semi auto rifle or pistol. I've had SV lead ammo build up on the face of a 22 revolver to the point that the cylinder would not turn until it was cleaned.

Have put about 500 rounds through mine and haven’t had any problem with leading- have had several light strikes but I attribute that more to ammo - have put them back in the mag and they all fired the next time - I’m shooting CCI mini mags

  • @mikeburch2998

I personally had trouble with reliability due to the rounds being stacked badly in the mag. After understanding and corrections it works really nice. The 20 round mag needs some attention to detail when loading it. Take your time and pack it carefully. The rounds should look symetrical in the stack.

    Here's a sig P322 tip.
Heavily shouldered 22 rds give ftl's.
    Loading the magazine correctly.
The mags do get dirty. I clean mine with a little clp on a long cotton swap. Lubes and cleans it at the same time. CCI ammo works well.

I have both the p322 and the p17. I do not believe the p322 to be twice the gun the p17 is even though it's twice the price. You really do get a lot for your money with the kel-tec. They are both really nice shooters for sure.

@@roderichall201 I was FINALLY able to get a P17 about a month ago. The LAST thing I needed was another .22, but it is becoming a favorite. Would like to see what Hickok thinks of it and if he agrees with me that it kicks Glock's butt!!!

After 800 plus rounds of mostly unplayed ammo through my P322, I had very slight lead in the barrel. Two passes with the brush and it was completely clear of lead. Since going to exclusively played, and running o CD er amthousand rounds, I have had no leading issues.

Step ma picked one of these up a couple months ago. I shot about 100rds today, Winchester white box hollow points and the barrel was so leaded I had to use a .17hmr brass brush to fit and do the preliminary scrubbing before the .22 brush would fit. And then once I destroyed the first brass brush had to keep adding solvent and eventually used a fresh brass brush to be able to see the rifling again in the last 2" of barrel.

I personally have had excellent luck with the p322. I have had a few people including a 63 year old lady take her shooting test for ccl with it. She never shoots and first time in her hand with the sig was at the testing line. No feeding issues and passed easily! Little spendy but you get what you pay for!

Hsd a pheonix arms 22 that had issues but it was sent back to them and new barrel intalled.
Quality control issue nothing i did or ammo that was specified was used.
As dirty as a 22 can be ive never had 1 that had major leading problems.
Take the few minutes of time to clean it out evety time...
And as you mentioned better coated ammo also helps.
    Problem solved

I haven’t had any issues with leading. My son and I put around 200 rds every other week through it. Normally clean at least every other trip to the range.
I have had issues with aguila ammo. Might’ve been just a bad batch. Looked like light primer strikes. But have had no issue with cci.

Put about 200 round through mine, just got it, and have no problem with CCI Mini Mag. I have a bucket of Remington 36gr hollow point, and I have 2 or 3 problems with every magazine. Loading the magazines can be tricky. I've even watched the Sig video, but maybe I'm not holding my mouth just right.

Finally picking one of these up this weekend, now that I am finally seeing them below the MSRP about 7 months after they hit the market. Hope they have fixed the leading issue as it looks like a great pistol with some very nice features. Have a TX22 and have shot it a lot. Great 22 that shoots anything reliably, but I had to replace the recoil spring as the sharp edge on it was chipping away the aluminum slide where the spring nestles in. Had a Glock 44 that was very picky with ammo. Any 22 can have issues - nature of the beast and the ammo.

Love shooting the 22lr. Have several types of firearms, all are fun, and cheap, to shoot. Only problem is the really cheap ammo out there. Some even cause trouble in the revolver. Some are so misshaped, that they don’t go all the way into the cylinder, keeping it from spinning, and jamming it. Great video as always!

I bought mine almost the day they came out in the spring. Took it out and shot amazing. Love the gun. I did not have any problems with leading. I used several different brands of ammo. Lead and copper jacket. My barrel is clean and shiny. You do have to pay attention to how you load the magazine

If you get a chance compare the Smith & Wesson M&p compact 22 I have the threaded barrel when I took it apart to clean it I didn't put that coupling on and I could not figure out for the life of me why the slide kept moving up and down if you get one compare it you'll understand what I mean if you take off that little cup link and it is also threaded for a suppressor great pistol

I've had mine for about 6 months I've only shot Winchester and CCI at least a thousand or so rounds no letting that I can tell. I purchased this because my old Mark II Ruger was just getting gummed up way faster and I'd like which I was surprised but I can shoot probably 10 times as many rounds to the cig before I have to add some oil versus the Ruger

Thanks for the review. Had mine for a few months. I’m a big Sig guy but found myself slightly disappointed in the P322. The overall construction, and quality (to me) just doesn’t seem on par with my beloved Sig. Also, I think the mags are very finicky and it seems I rarely dump an entire mag without a failure. Breaks my heart to say it…but if I had it to do over, I probably wouldn’t buy it😢
