This is my first video of eco dying and I LOVE IT! You did so well! I’m loving all the papers you made! I don’t have flowers growing in my yard right now but I have a few friends that do and I’m calling them today to ask them if I can have their dead flowers. I can’t thank you enough for this video!!!! Have a wonderful day.♥️
You're most welcome Denise! I'm so glad you liked it! It's really fun, you add the right ingredients and the nature does the creative work for you! We just help a little bit 😉. Thank you so much for watching and for the lovely comment ❤️🥰
Thank you so much for all the information on mordants and how to make your own, plus dyeing paper with plant material. I have been looking for this online for so long now and all I could find was for fabric dyeing in large pots and no information on how to make my own mordants or where to purchase them for paper projects.
What a great video! Now I know how to eco-dye paper without boiling everything for 3 hours (energy is so expensive now) so, thank you! I think the tea might be very important to the results because the tannin in it is a natural mordant (fixative). Thank you once again for sharing
You're most welcome! Thank you so much for watching and for your comment! You're probably right about tea, I also find it needs to be very warm, almost hot, so that it steams the petals. It help to release the pigment. 😊❤️
Very pretty papers. If you soak paper in Alum Acetate for cellulose your colours will be brighter and possible more stable… dry the paper then use your tannin sprays as you did here… I think these may fade without a mordant. Will be interesting to see you papers in a six months…when Eco dyeing cellulose fibre the tannin is best if added first and then the AA… this makes for a more stable mordant. Maybe try this with a cotton rich art paper. Cheers
Thank you so much for watching and for these wonderful and useful tips. I'm planning to do another batch as soon as I collect enough flower petals and get all of the ingredients. I'll definitely try what you suggested here. I scanned these papers just in case they fade, but of course, it would be great if they don't, original is always better than the digital print. ❤️❤️❤️

You are very welcome! Glad you liked it. I don't see why card stock paper wouldn't work. In fact, in might give you great results. I used it on my gelli plate once and I was surprised how detailed the print turned out. No venture no gain! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! ❤️😊
You're most welcome! Thank you so much for watching. ❤️ I just had to digitize them, otherwise I would be hoarding them. This way I get to keep them forever 😆
These effects are absolutely stunning! Eco-dying is so hit or miss. I’ve tried in the past & got some kind of pretty effects, but nothing I’ve loved like yours. I think combining your technique with Luise Heinzl’s die cutting of leaves would create gorgeous effects
Aww, thank you so much Allison. I'm really glad you liked the video. I loved the process and the results, too. I'm thinking next time I will try treating the papers with alum first, I'm curious if it would change the outcome. ❤️😊
Wow! I can't wait to try this. Thank you for sharing. Would it work to add alum to the tea water or the onion water? I did onion eco prints by boiling in alum water. The results were astounding. Your papers are gorgeous.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video. I am going to do something similar again and my plan is to soak the papers in alum first, just to see the difference. I like your idea better, adding alum to tea or onion and spraying sounds easier to do. 😊
Amazing. I tried this and IT WORKED. 🙌🙌🙌 I’m so amazed by the results. A much more straightforward method than creating paper bundles. I am now using the same leaves and skins to see if I can get more colour out of them. I used some 120gsm paper and also some 300gsm. I tried thinner paper but it wasn’t strong enough. Thank you for sharing this. ❤️ It’s huge fun. I feel so creative, but really it’s nature that can take all the credit for the gorgeous colours.
I’m so glad it worked out great. It really is a lot of fun and yes, we can definitely thank Mother Nature of all the wonderful patterns and colors we get 😊❤️
Thank-you for a very well-made video showing this simple yet effective technique using materials we can all find. I took notes and plan to try it this weekend. Your voice and examples are so inspiring!
Anne, you're very welcome! I'm really glad you liked the video and found it inspirational! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment. I hope your papers turn out beautiful! ❤️
Welcome to the channel Darlene! I'm really glad you liked the video. Thank you so much for subscribing and watching. I hope your papers turn out lovely 😊❤️
I love this! I can see that I am going to be gathering all kinds of flowers from my garden this spring and summer. What fun! I can hardly wait. Thank you for the inspiration. 💕
You’re very welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I can’t wait to collect some flowers, too. Love working with what nature provides. Thank you for watching ❤️😊
You're most welcome! I'm really glad you liked the video. I think collecting flowers and plants is a lot of fun, dyeing process is not too difficult, and the results are lovely ❤️😊
Gorgeous papers! Thank you for sharing this. I have many dried roses and didn’t really know what to do with them other than displayed them in glass vases! I can’t wait to try.
You're most welcome! I'm really glad you liked the video and found a new way of preserving the beautiful colors of your roses in these papers. Thank you so much for watching and for this kind comment ❤️😊
Such lovely papers!!! I love the ease it took to create them, without a difficult process! Thank you so much for sharing your process. Be especially blessed in all things!!! ♥
Oh, thank you so, so much for such a beautiful and kind comment! I'm really happy that you like the process. I love sharing, it wouldn't be fun otherwise ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! They turned out really interesting, I'm thinking of doing some line drawings on top. I'm a bit rusty with my drawing skills, but you inspired me to start again 😊❤️
💜 Gorgeous papers! I think I can print onto handmade paper, and it would be almost impossible to know I did not create them from scratch. I wish we had flowers nearby, but I love the design/colors of the papers you made, so will add them to my Etsy cart ASAP! Loved your folio tutorial, and these papers will be perfect for recreating it. Thank you 🥰
Thank you so much 💕! I'm really glad you like them. That's a great idea printing them on handmade paper! I haven't tried but now I think I will 😊. Thank you for that! I just had to make some of the folios with them, just seemed like a perfect fit😊. Thank you so much for the support and a lovely comment 😘❤️
Hi dear, your video is the most valuable, useful and joyful experience in my (beginner) eco-printer life. I LOVE what you do and how you share it. I started to follow you, as one of my great inspirators. Thank you sooo much! Just WOOOOW!
Thank you for sharing the process it seems not as stressful or although time more time consuming the 24 hour of waiting for them but it looks like it was definitely worth the wait they’re gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.
You are very welcome! I agree, it takes longer, because of waiting, but, I usually put it all together and leave it aside while working on something else, so in the end it's less work. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comments! I really appreciate it 😊❤️
Thank you so much for sharing this video. The papers are stunning and beautiful. Going to raid my garden and give this a try tomorrow. It is the start of fall here but I still have some flowers to try. Thank you again.
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing not only the process but for making it available (via the kit) for those of us who do not have gardens (access to ingredients).
This was such a good video! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain your process. Your sheets are beautiful. My prints are under weights and my fingers are crossed!
Thanks for a great video. You made the process seem very do-able and your presentation of the information was really pleasant to listen to; well done. 🏆
Thank you so much! The results surprised me and the papers still look good after so many months. I've been making cards, tags, specimen and I used full pages in some journals, as center spreads. I've been collecting petals throughout the summer and can't wait to do this again. ❤️😊
Great video. Thank you for sharing. For the spray that you made, you said you used 5 tea bags. Did you put all 5 bags in ONE cup of water or did you use 5 cups of water for the 5 tea bags? Thank you again!
You're most welcome! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. I used 5 tea bags in a liter of water. I think that's 4 cups. You can make it stronger for a darker color if you like or dilute with more water for lighter effect. ❤️😊
these are wonderful...I love your little folio too, and the closure you made so I have liked and subscribed hoping to learn more techniques from you!!!! thanks for sharing. We are in a crafting group together, and I saw your post and saved to watch! 🙂
Hello Karen, thank you so much and welcome to the channel! ❤️ I'm really glad you liked the video. I love making those little folios, they're really great as gifts. I have a 2 part tutorial on how to make these, if you're interested. I left the link in description box below the video. 🙂❤️
It's possible that the pigment in the dried petals is more concentrated, and warm tea and onion skin solution help to release it, acting as mordant in a way. 😊
I think I am going to try this method tomorrow. Have you noticed any difference in using the tea water as opposed to the onion skin water? Did it make any difference in the colors you got? I am thinking I might also try adding baking soda to some of it. When I added baking soda to my avacado dye I got a really dark purple. I might try it. I will let you know what happens. So much fun!
Thank you so much! I'm really happy that you're going to try! It's fun and addictive 😁. I think onion skin dye gives a different shade of brown than tea, so I liked to use them both to get some variation in tones. I've never tried with baking soda, but it's a good point. Thank you, now I feel like having another go at it 😀. Please let me know how you go, I'm really curious ❤️
Great video do you think you got more colour from dried versus just picked? ...Thanks. gave me alot of ideas......I coffee dye same way in clear container.... put a glass pie plate on top, put outside in the sun.... keep checking and take off top few as they dry. Only takes a few hours. Not scorching hot days, then in partial sun. Move container around 2 let what's gathered in bottom get sheets here an there. Hope this is of interest. Happy Mom's day all Cheers
Thank you so much for that tip! I might try it next time. Drying papers is always are nuisance for me, too many pets😆, so I can't really spread them out. It's possible I got stronger coloration because flowers were dry and therefore, dye was less diluted. Worth experimenting! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! 😊❤️
Beautiful papers! Have you an idea will these colors stay or will thay fade away with time? I've done some eco dyeing with lupins (as we need to get rid of it here, it has taken over large areas) but the color you get from the flowers doesn't last, they fade, even if you use heat. The color you get from the stems and the leaves will stay.
Thank you so much! Honestly, this was an experiment and I'm still waiting to see if the colors would fade away. So far, they seem unchanged. I scanned them just in case, because I liked the design and wanted to make sure they're not lost. ❤️❤️❤️
I noticed that the color will stay better if it's not in light. So inside a book that has not opened or a drawer, but you couldn't enjoy them then... Scanning 👍 Could you let us know if something happens?
@@anumanninen oh course, I keep them in a clear plastic folio in my studio, no direct sunlight but they're not in the dark. I've been making some cards and ephemera and have been taking them in and out of that folio a lot. If I notice they're fading I'll certainly mention that in my next eco dyeing video 😊
Thank you so much! They might change if left in the sun for too long I suppose, I'm not really sure, will need to test first. When I stamped and stenciled colors didn't bleed. During drying process, while they were wet, when touching them I didn't get any color on my hands. I haven't tried watercolor or acrylic paint on them yet. I hope this answers your question. ❤️
There must be a science to echo drying. I tried it a few years ago on RUclips one RUclipsr uses Alam and vinegar, and I couldn’t get it to work so I was wondering, if you know the answer, how does the onion skin water and tea bag water help in leaching the colors onto the paper? Your papers turned out beautiful and that was the effect. That I was trying for in the past
Hi! I don't know the science behind it all, so I'll just speak from my experience. Onion skin water and tea can dye paper without anything else added. Leaves and green parts I used were more to give imprint, they released no dye. Red rose and purple peony rose petals were dry and dye must have been more concentrated. Dandelions had lots of yellow dye that mixed with blue hibiscus flowers and ended up greenish. I experimented with other flowers and some, although bright and colorful had no dye in them. It really matters what you use. I've noticed that red orchid cactus flowers give the strongest red. Treating paper with alum first would probably give more stable results. I used onions skin water and tea for brown color and also to soak the other plants. The fact that the liquids were initially hot helped to release the dye. I hope this helps 😊
@@sunshinegirl8214 I can't really say because I don't know what flowers you used. Some flowers, although colorful won't release any dye in them. Leaves won't really give you green with this method. Blue and yellow flower petals when they mix might give you green Pink and white flowers will give you brown or nothing. The brown you're getting might be from the tea or onion. Your tea and onion need to be warm when you spray, not cold. That would help flower petals release dyes. And last, perhaps use different paper next time. 😊
wow so lovely, so I decided to give this method a go, results were awful, virtually nothing. I had two types of paper, one with alum and dried, the others as you did. Left heavily weighted down for 48hrs. I dont know your secret, wish I did.
Oh, so sorry the papers didn't turn out as you'd hoped. It happens sometimes. Honestly, I have no secret, I shared all the information on how I achieved these prints in the second part of the video: Warm black tea and onion skin solution for spraying. I don't think cold solutions would work well. Drawing paper, 165gsm, I think mine was acid free. Dried rose, peony rose, hibiscus, cactus flowers, most were red or purple. I also used fresh dandelion petals. Those flowers had pigment in them, that's why it worked. Some flowers, no matter how colorful, won't release any pigment. Leaves didn't release any color, they were used more like a stamp on stencil. All the colors came from flower petals, tea and onion skin solution. I hope this information helps you in case you try this again. Thank you so much for watching and trying this method ❤️❤️❤️
@@Saacibo I know, but today I had great success simmering for 1.5 hrs. My geraniums look fabulous. I used Fabriano 25 % cotton paper. The detail and colours are amazing. All worth trying different methods. Yours are so pretty.. I did what you did but my solutions were not warmed up. Will try again.
@@gillyb44 I’m so glad you were brave and tried it again and had better luck this time. …. Oh mine, you ask? How are mine when I tried? I don’t know because I haven’t been brave enough to try yet! Lol. My brother’s friend owns a flower shop and she told me I could have her dead flowers before she throws them out. She’ll give them to me. So I really do need to try this. I love watching all of the process, but haven’t tried it yet. Lol♥️♥️♥️

Absolutely beautiful prints! Thanks so much for sharing your process. I can’t wait to try it 😊
You're most welcome! Thank you so much! I hope you have lots of fun making some! ❤️😊
Thank you, so informative and beautiful colours.
Your most welcome! Thank you so much for watching. I love those colors too! So vibrant! 😊❤️
Thank you for your tutorial. I'll have to try this.
You're most welcome! Please do, it's so much fun, I loved the element of surprise with each print ❤️😊
these are wonderful...I love your little folio too, and the closure you made so I have liked and subscribed hoping to learn more techniques from you!!!! thanks for sharing.
@@Saacibo I will go watch now!!! Thanks
Beautiful papers!
Thanks so much 😊❤️
Beautiful just beautiful... Just have a question does the union skin water smell like union? I'm just so curious about that
Thank you so much! Onion water is cooked with just onion skins, dry outer parts, and it has no smell at all.😊
Thank you for sharing. Very pretty.
You're most welcome! Thank you so much for watching! ❤️
I can’t believe how much colour you get from such little liquid 😱 Does the fact your flowers are dried have an effect?
It's possible that the pigment in the dried petals is more concentrated, and warm tea and onion skin solution help to release it, acting as mordant in a way. 😊
Lovely results, tfs!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 😊❤️
By the way, Those are the biggest dang dandilions I have ever seen!!!
😀 yes, they're big this year, it's been raining a lot, maybe that's the reason 🐝 love them ❤️
@@Saacibo I sure will.
Gorgeous and inspiring! Thanks ❤
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching ❤️😊
Scanning 👍
Could you let us know if something happens?
@@anumanninen oh course, I keep them in a clear plastic folio in my studio, no direct sunlight but they're not in the dark. I've been making some cards and ephemera and have been taking them in and out of that folio a lot. If I notice they're fading I'll certainly mention that in my next eco dyeing video 😊
Amazing i am definitely trying this method, hugs sara
Thank you so much Sara! I'm really glad to hear that! ❤️❤️❤️
Very lovely! Thank you!
Glad you like it!😊❤️
Definitely trying this ❤
I’m so glad 😊❤️
Absolutly love All these
Thank you so much 😊❤️
I love the papers they are so pretty. Do you know if they are colour fast?
Thank you so much! They might change if left in the sun for too long I suppose, I'm not really sure, will need to test first. When I stamped and stenciled colors didn't bleed. During drying process, while they were wet, when touching them I didn't get any color on my hands. I haven't tried watercolor or acrylic paint on them yet. I hope this answers your question. ❤️
Just beautiful ❤
Thank you so much ❤️
There must be a science to echo drying.
Thank you so much I now think I’m ready to get started been collecting everybody’s deadheaded flowers so excited for the results
Beautiful papers, work .. i love it .😘 baci Daniela
Thank you so much Daniela! ❤️❤️❤️
They are amazing 🤩
Thank you so much ❤️😊
Thank you I just might do this
You're most welcome! I'm really glad ❤️😊
Absolutely fabulous xxxxx thank you x
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Lovely!
Thank you! 😊❤️
Another lady when boiling used vinegar not alum to avoid getting the gray
Thank you! I might try next time 😊❤️
Beautiful ❤️
Thanks so much ❤️
those papers are stunning. TFS :)
Glad you like them! Thank you so much ❤️
Beautiful!!
Thank you so much ❤️
Great tutorial, I've subscribed xx ❤️😍❤️
Thanks you so much 😊❤️ I'm glad you liked it!
Beautiful 😍
Thank you so much 😊❤️
Love this. I tried it but not nearly as vibrant as yours. Did you use fresh petals or dried?
I used fresh dandelions and the more colorful rose and peony rose petals were all dried. 😊❤️
We’ll, I tried it again. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but everything is turning out brown. Do you have any ideas?
@@sunshinegirl8214 I can't really say because I don't know what flowers you used. Some flowers, although colorful won't release any dye in them. Leaves won't really give you green with this method. Blue and yellow flower petals when they mix might give you green Pink and white flowers will give you brown or nothing. The brown you're getting might be from the tea or onion. Your tea and onion need to be warm when you spray, not cold. That would help flower petals release dyes. And last, perhaps use different paper next time. 😊
Thx so much . I’ll give it a try. 😀
So beautifull❤🎉
Thank you so much ❤️😊
wow so lovely, so I decided to give this method a go, results were awful, virtually nothing. I had two types of paper, one with alum and dried, the others as you did. Left heavily weighted down for 48hrs. I dont know your secret, wish I did.
Oh, so sorry the papers didn't turn out as you'd hoped. It happens sometimes. Honestly, I have no secret, I shared all the information on how I achieved these prints in the second part of the video:
Warm black tea and onion skin solution for spraying.
Lol♥️♥️♥️
