Such a sensible video, I really appreciate you explaining the nitty gritties. I was waiting all along somebody to explain the differences, and bang on, you did it :) only person I have ever seen in Car industry.
I have a 5 door small hatch and very rarely use the back seats to carry people. But I still wouldn't buy a 3 door car because the rear doors make it so much easier to put luggage in the back if you need to. I guess the doors are also a bit shorter with a 5 door which would make it easier to get in and out in tight spaces.
in my country there are only 2 steps: 1-do you have enough money to buy a bmw? then buy a bmw 2-if you dont have enough money to buy a bmw then buy a vw. grinds my gears...
milli pekmez well in the UK, VW isn't exactly the cheap option. BMW and VW cars are similarly priced. Give or take 1000-2000 pounds in most cases. For example the BMW 1 series is about the same price as the golf.
that 1-2k difference applies to us as 20k-40k difference. and yes vw still not a cheap option but i'm sure you are familiar with the dilemma of people and their brand love with no logic in it. that's the part annoys me most.
So just to get this door thing straight: basically if the glass moves along with the boot then it's got an extra door. If the glass stays where it is while you open the boot then it doesn't count as a door. Right?
A door counts as a door in a car if it gives you access to the main (seating) area of the inside of the vehicle. In a saloon car the boot is separated out so you can't reach into the main section of the car through it. Therefore the boot door isn't counted as a door. In a hatchback you can reach into the boot from the back seats, so the boot door does count as a door
Easy... Lot of town driving and start/stops: Small petrol car (1L upto 1.6L) Lot of motorway driving and long distance: A saloon diesel car (1.6L and up)
My favourite vehicle for being in town (even in London) is a Peugeot Boxer VAN MWB H2 with blackened windows and a few seats. It is fast enough, people see you (so don't hit you when they are on their mobiles) and give you space. The seats are magic and the view of the road and traffic is great. The idea that the smaller the vehicle, the better it is in cities is a myth. Modern Vans are great to drive in towns, on motorways .... everywhere. It holds masses, has decent economy and cost me very little.
For me, It was automatic, black colour and it's just me driving for short city journeys and my milage us very low, so I picked a Toyota Yaris Hybrid. As a 25 year old new driver, insurance was the most important, so I had to limit my spectrum to small engines and only certain brands.
important question would have been buying used or new (you dont want ppl to buy used bc you dont make money from it) and leasing vs. buying, but you made a seperate video about that recently I think.
Ulrich D Shut up with CarThrottle's shit. He always say "BMW drivers never use indicators" Well that's bullshit! I've seen plenty BMW driver use their indicators.
Thorbjørn Madsen Wow, no need to be offensive. There was nothing to do with BMW drivers or whatever, I don't even know what you're talking about. A lot of people don't used their Blinkers today, and cause a lot of accidents and anger. That those people drive Toyota, BMW or Peugeot, I don't care.
Being a long time estate fan the insignia looks very nice. Though being an owner of a GTC that was given a new astra by the insurance the other week, i would stay clear. It was a real let down, materials was poor and the much Lorded handling was poor compared to my gtc. I'll be returning to an estate at the end of my lease. Missing back doors and a big load lugger. Seriously considering a rav4 hydrid, the engine had a good mix of power and efficacy. But more than likely go for my last estate, given they are a dying breed.
kraenk12 I'd stay clear anyway, my 16 gtc 165 has been in the garage 5 times in 2 years, for various issues. That they never fix. Im getting an Octavia next. However pergeot are doing some good things atm, so they may fix Vx failings.
I did consider all of the above with my wife and young daughter... reasonable choice would be like an estate / hatchback coming from my 2016 3 series was considering 3 or 5 series touring / 4 GC. Then we went for a spin out of curiosity in an M2... Now the M2 is the daily driver and we have never enjoy road trip as much before since then ^^ The most reasonable car that fits your "needs" might not be the one that makes you and your family smile in the end.
You do, I'm French and they are sold here. www.cadillac.co.uk/ But only the "V" version apparently. it's weird because the stock models are sold here, and are far better than their German equivalent. Yeah, the CTS-V is cool, but really expensive compared to the stock 270 hp engine (Which is already not bad for the price)
Petrols engines have become so efficient and clever, that although they can't match diesels thermodynamic efficiency, they are amazing on smaller cars. 1 litre engines with 115 PS 1.4 litres with 150PS ..... amazing andeconomical. Petrols now have decent residual values and will last 150K with no problem. When I was a kid, cars rusted out in 5 to 6 years (74 - 77) a 2 litre ordinary engine produced about 100PS and they broke down all down.Cars are great now..... pity I am old.....
What family car should I get I drive a van for work which is seperate but need something for or young family which is the misses and I and baby and potentially another kid in a few years, we don’t do crazy mileage but something with abit of comfort aswell and on an average budget.... any recommendations welcome

Or when you break your elbow and you can steer, but still can't shift with a stick... find the cheapest car with automatic transmission, go to a dealership... and buy a smart cabrio for twice that price ;) Especially if the other car you have is the most spacious of BMWs :) So you end up with having the biggest FWD BMW with a manual and smallest Mercedes with automatic transmission and RWD ;)

And of course I forgot about most important...budget, which is around £30.000 I could stretch it to £35.000 but if car is really good, and of course its going to be used but only 2013 models onwards :)
I don't have a lot of stuff or people to carry. I just want something that makes me feel special but isn't in the luxury price range. Lol!
