As someone who passed out behind the wheel after approximately 49 hours of no sleep (awake all day until starting a 12.5 hour shifts with no sleep in between for the next day and starting another 12.5 hour shift), I would have loved this rather than waking up to my car hitting a curb right by a busy intersection for everyone and their mother to see. I worked for the team at Continental Automotive here in Germany that developed this. This is a byproduct of the Continental Cruising Chauffer (Automated Drive assist).
Honestly this is honestly brilliant especially for seizure patients and various other individuals that might have disorders/illnesses. Plus I’m sure there are crashes here and there where long commuters have fallen asleep and crashed so this can prevent that potential. 10/10 function! This should be a default in all vehicles
Literally are not allowed to drive a car if you are at risk for seizures. If you randomly have one you aren't supposed to drive for a year. You can not legally drive, so why would this system be good for them exactly? That's like saying this would be perfect for people who are trying to drive home drunk incase they pass out while driving. You should not have been driving to begin with. This is a safety feature, not something to rely on if you are prone to having seizures.
@@ctrlh9838 The idea isn't to put someone who seizes regularly into a car and rely on this. But someone with an undiagnosed or emergent condition or someone who's been okay for a year and suddenly does have a seizure will greatly benefit from this.

I had this on my Skoda Octavia (VW group of companies in case someone hasn't heard of Skoda). The only time it is over-protective is on long, straight roads. A message would appear on the dash telling me that no steering input had been detected. I was driving on the M1 motorway in Hungary between Vienna and Budapest. Check on Google maps, it's long and straight. I was towing a trailer, using cruise control and lane assistance when that message would pop up. Great safety feature.

@@glurak888 As all other EU mandatory safety features, are really expensive and you need to disable them because are invasive and prone to errors..... This would save so many lives if trucks had this. Unfortunately, speaking from experiences, most companies would use it in tandem with a front facing camera to spy on you and "give you a safety review" if you discussed anything about joining another company while in the truck.
@slicknick-76 I'd double check that if I were you. And even if they can't a lot of the outward facing cameras can still record your voice. Trucking companies (and companies in the US in general) just do not care anymore, cause the cost of fucking with you and garnishing your wages is actually less than if they get caught.
Take a closer look, the car put the hazards on the second it figured the driver was incapacitated. You can see the left turn signal on during the 3 brake checks to try to wake him up, and the signal was not on when he went limp.
well, couldve needed that one several years ago. I was driving home with a friend sitting next to me after we spent the weekend playing a volleyball tournament. I had cruise control active while driving 140km/h on a german highway. I didn't pass out completly, but experienced micro sleep several times. Then, in one of these my friend had to take hands on the steering wheel because I wasn't awake... he saved our both lives in that moment because he couldv'e been sleeping or microsleeping at least as well.
