The Top has always been favorite album!!!! If your a top fan don't miss the post of top songs live..DEC 2014 Apollo, by sim productions...super hot live, must see set!!!
for me the best thing about the cure is the variety in their music. Robert is a genius and doesn't make music for the billboard charts or for the radio, he makes music because he has something inside of him that he needs to express. If people like it that's a bonus. Since they have been around for so long they are so many different Cures. This was a great psychedelic time for him, most of the music was inspired and conceived from LSD. But Robert doesn't get caught up in one type of music because that wouldn't last long and it would get old quick. They went from The Top to The Head on The Door. It's almost as if it were two different bands. Even though members of the cure change it's Robert that IS The Cure. I have been a fan for 30+ years and I'm grateful that He continues to make music to this day. And i'm thankful their catalog is so varied. There is always something to fit the mood.
I concur. I've only been listening to them for like a year but the music is definitely varied not jus album to album sometimes even song to song. Dressing up totally sounds like an 80s r&b song, the blood has this latin vibe, if only tonight has this Asian touch to it, while push sounds like it could b a current alternative song I'm head over heels for the cure💖💖💖💖
@@Infinitespace04 They were great, weren't they. The Cure isn't some reunion band. They have been making music and performing continuously for over 40 years now. I've been following them since 1990, and they still perform at their top level. Their new music is just as good as anything they have released. That's unusual because usually a band that releases new music past their prime, the music isn't great. I just hope we get more of The Cure before it's too late.
Peak The Cure. This era (The Top, Head on the Door, Kiss Me) and their post-punk/new wave era (Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds) are what define The Cure for me.
The Cure at their peak without even realizing it themselves . I begun listening to The Cure just before this came out -speak of "Cult band " . People these days will never even begin to fathom what this band used to represent around this time .
I agree. Seen them 7 times live and nobody can question their prowess in all their live shows but beyond all that their shows totally captivate the audience. I remember the first time I saw them at The Royal Albert Hall on 1st April 2006. I was so enthralled and inspired that after the concert, I was walking along the streets of London in a daze and the song 'Fascination Street' was going around my head. I didn't care for anything else in the world after witnessing the best concert ever! Truly the biggest inspiration for me in terms of music and even to an extent the overall DIY philosophy and alternative way of looking at things come from The Cure. :-)
Only seen them twice . The first time was before they release Kiss me.. and the last time in 2017 and at the Wembley Arena both times . Excellent performers with such an experimental range
Infinitamente agradecido. No puedo creer lo q vi. Muchas gracias por compartir los mejores del mundo e inmortales 🖤 gracias saludos desde argentina 🇦🇷 💙 ...
Love this. I remember it when it was broadcast. The Top is my favourite album of theirs. I think they became a bit less interesting and more commercial after it.
You can hear him on Piggy In The Mirror. While Porl is playing a funky rhythm thing over the "Jump with me" part at 4:21 you can hear the descending melody that Lol plays. I think his role on a lot of songs is to player filler bass parts on the keys as well, like on Bananafishbones.
It always looked weird watching Lol in front of the keyboards. I think A Forest was the only time he seemed to genuinely playing. Lol is like what Andrew Fletcher was to Depeche Mode, I guess.
Bass player is Phil Thornally who produced the Pornography album, the Love Cats single and the Concert live album. He was The Cure bassist for 18 months, more or less between the time Simon Gallup left the band in 1982 and the time he re-joined in 1984.
The feeling when as a teenager people listen to Lady Gaga on parties and u lock yourself in your bedroom listening to music from before u were born. Spirit stuck in the wrong time. 🥴🥴
This was the end of the cure part 2. Part 1 was imaginary to faith. Part 2 was pornography to the top. The best in my opinion. Part 3 was head on the door to Disintegration. From 90 onwards it’s been poor. This tour was fantastic
The Top is such an underrated album but by far one of my favorites.
skomblevicz Mine too, love every song on it
It sounds like a trip to a funhouse
True, but apparently it sounds ridiculous live.
I love the top
Totally agree 👏
this is amazing. the top was sorely misunderstood. I love this era of the cure

Very true!
Yes.
I got a chance to see them last summer for the first time. Nothing short of exquisite even tho they're all approaching their 70s. Atf bands

RIP Andy Anderson
he is sooooooo pretty here
Rob looked great during Top era
Oh yes 🥵
Phil Thornalley is such an underrated bass guitar player!

Porl's a badass, playing guitar and keyboard on the same song
'cause lol sucks in keyboards
I was wondering why Robert didn't just play guitar instead of all that switching back and forth for Porl haha
Saw the. No quarter tour, " an, heard porl, took his place, I was ecstatic, terrific concert! 2nd favorite , then Trent & Bowie !..
The Top is basically Robert Smith's solo album. He played all the instrument for recording bar drums

I witnessed the Cure 3 times. Each time was life altering.

Guy at 5:13 has some seriously original dance moves. Must have been good acid.
It really was back then.
Rest In Peace ,,,Andy boy,,,,💝 &✌
"The Top" was the soundtrack of my summer of 84. What memories and the last album of the band that I bought.
Why does the audience look dead? I would be dancing my butt off.
Same here! I woulda been dancing with those 2 in the back!
They're in a trance. I can't dance to the song like the top and wailing wall. It's a different kind of music
Dancing to THESE song? You must be American. The Top is one of The Cure’s most “miserable” LPs.
@@SoulStylistJukeBoxreally?
@@SoulStylistJukeBoxI think some of these songs are slightly "sad" and I'm American!
Oh oooh! Robert forgot his own lyrics on Piggy! 😮
Love this psychedelic Cure era♡
Bananafishbones sounds like a song that would be playing at jabbas palace in Star Wars.
The same unique The Top atmosphere, as on studio records and even more!
Absolutely fantastic! Masterpiece! All songs! AAAAA, Unbelievable!
The Cure: The Heavy Drug Years
Sleep well Andy Anderson
As a massive Cure fan I have always slept on The Top but hearing these live versions gives me a whole new appreciation of them.
check out the performances of the songs off the Top featured in the live video In Orange!
I adore the Top and I adore this performance! Robert looks amazing ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
I'm in love with the TOP album , soooooo underrated
Omg I watched this on the tube when I was a kid & thought they were so hardcore, lol. Wish I could have been in the audience. I love them to death.
The top is epic.love it all....genius did it basically on his own....
Absolute masterpiece of an album
Klaudija Vorih it is dressing up empty world etc shake dog shake best opener to any gig any band ever....
Absolutely :)
2:23 robert licking his lips is making my knees weak
3:40
@@lsly4838he makes me go CRAZY
I love The Caterpillar from this Album.
Ohhh ! He looks so cute here
Robert is so delightful and precious and I love him🖤🖤🖤
One of my favorite the top...
The beginning of the best era of
The Cure.
In my humble opinion.
That Guitar Solo from rob Piggy in the mirror...Tune..
The Top is the first album I think I ever bought, on tape cassette.
Filigrana sonora de la gra Bertha and companyyyyyyyy de altar de siempre rediosssssss😎💪😎🕶️💪😎🕶️😎💪
Really good drums and bass here
To be in this intimate of a setting now...One can dream...2021
Porl thompson ❤❤❤❤ keyboard and guitar , really really good musician😊😊😊😊😊😊
Absolutely amazing!
La mejor formación de The Cure
I love The Top era!
I love the top
The camera man knows who the real keyboardist is.
🫵🤬
My favourite Cure time.
Robert is just a genius! Breathtaking songs! 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Infinitamente agradecido. No puedo creer lo q vi. Muchas gracias por compartir los mejores del mundo e inmortales 🖤 gracias saludos desde argentina 🇦🇷 💙 ...
The Top is my fave Cure album, it’s solid and heavy
Lol on keyboards is like Andy Fletcher of The Cure
Flipante. Y perece que fue ayer. Y es hoy también. Siempre Cure. Always Robert Smith. Always. Ever for ever
cant...stop....rewatching this fucking great video of The Cure.
Such a weird song- it shouldn’t work but somehow he pulls it off and I like it.
love this song... :)
Tube shows were always great
The best era ever
The top is my fav Cure lp
He sounds under the influence in Piggy in the mirror
Lol being the Andy Fletcher of the cure.
Give it a rest. Lol made a significant contribution in their early days. Plus, he's a sweet guy so just knock it off.
Awesome piece♡
Love this. I remember it when it was broadcast. The Top is my favourite album of theirs. I think they became a bit less interesting and more commercial after it.
Lol esta de adorno
robert 😍😍😍😍😍
As bullseye legendJim Bowen would have said, (if he was a Cure fan) GREAT,SMASHING,SUPER!!!!♥&✌
Robert is really spaced out on a good POPPY seeds
I've chosen the bass guitar 40 years ago because of Simon Gallup... But I can hear that Phil Tornalley was a better bass player !!
Die gute alte Gruftizeit, edel!
i love top
is Lol's keyboard even on?
I don't think Lol is even on...
He needs something to lean on
You have to listen closely, but yes.

Andy Anderson set the tone for the rest of the drummers in The Cure
WOW
The Top is my favourite album after Pornography ♥️♥️♥️
Amazing, as the audience is static !
What is that crunching sound all about on the last track?
mysteriousways A top! Robert said he spent six hours spinning a top trying to achieve the correct sound.
It was a child's tin spinning top being put to use. Being pumped into life.
@@Smokingpoetry now that is dedication!
It shows that Porl did almost all the keybord work and also played guitars in all songs. What did Lol do?
Got drunk pissed on Billy idol and now he's trying to do a goth thing and manages to get less listeners than my band which is weird as fuck.
Lol wasn't even there.
That's him on the far right isn't it? On keys?
Where is Simon?
Simon and Robert got into a fist fight and Simon split from The Cure for nearly two years. The Top is a song that Robert wrote to call Simon back.
Who is in te bass?
Bass player is Phil Thornally who produced the Pornography album, the Love Cats single and the Concert live album. He was The Cure bassist for 18 months, more or less between the time Simon Gallup left the band in 1982 and the time he re-joined in 1984.
Lol wasn't playing keyboard.
Who's LOL?......LOL
Yeah he is, but he's low in the mix. You can hear him more clearly at 4:21
♥️☠️♥️
Not quite right without Simon Gallup on bass. The magic just isn't there.
Porl
ROBERT SMITH JS SO FUCKING ADORABLE
Damn suddenly I'm gay.

I respect your opinion, but mine is that Wish and Bloodflowers are full of nice melodies and letters.
Dead crowd
Wow-- one of my favorite songs- but this version SUCKS!!!
