    I saw Siouxsie and The Banshees at The Capitol Theatre, Sydney in 1982 and I was shocked to see Robert Smith walk out on stage with them.
    Like the other attendees at the concert, we nudged our friends and said, "Look that's Robert Smith!!"
    Great concert, great night.
    "Kaleidoscope" is one of my all-time favourite albums.
    Smoking Gunja certainly helped the experience.

      Yeah, they're both amazing (and both bands!) A pity that Siouxsie's still angry with Robert for leaving the Banshees before a tour somewhere in the '80s, but he didn't have any energy left, he felt drained. He went to the doctor and seemed to have a very bad case of blood poisoning, the doctor was shocked at the levels of poisoning and that he was still standing up. But Siouxsie probably felt betrayed, she didn't buy it. I can see that she was mad because it was minutes before a tour.. But I'd rather have her mad at me for eternity than die of some horrible disease while on tour...
      PS: Does anyone know what year this is at The Whistle Test?

    Hauntingly beautiful. This still hits me the way it did 30 odd years ago. Everytime I hear it it stops me dead in my tracks. And the live versions always rise above the album versions. Siouxsie's soaring beatiful vocals. Robert Smith's playing is impeccable, and the bass has the dramatic power that drives the songs on. Budgie is still one of the best drummers out there. Love his intricate beats.

      @@footbru I wouldn't say it's a stupid comment. John McGeoch was the best sound wizard they ever had on guitar.....but Robert Smith is no slouch in that department either.....one listen to the Pornography album would tell you that.

    • @furnitureconsortium
      @furnitureconsortium Год назад +3

      @@footbru Beginning of his career? Robert Smith has been in The Cure since 1977 😆 with some local small get-togethers going all the way back to 1975.
      Point being, there’s nothing to elevate on either side of this equation…..Robert saved their bacon, twice due to guitarists leaving.
      The second time was providence for Robert as well because The Cure were technically done after the Pornography tour. I don’t think anybody expected The Cure to come back with Japanese Whispers or The Top within 18 months.
      It was beneficial for Siouxsie and Robert…..Siouxsie got some fresh sounds and a different musical viewpoint with Robert added piano & guitar to the songs on Hyena and Robert got to see up close what a functioning band looks and sounds like.
      I’m also sure the songs and sounds from the Banshees leaked onto the Cure songs from that period, how could they not? You try burning the candle at both ends for weeks on end doing two albums at the same time 😆
      The Cure from 1977-1982 were a good band but the live aspect was really hit or miss due to players coming and going (Porl Thompson, Mick Dempsey, etc.) They finally locked in the trio with Robert, Simon, and Lol…..but after the fistfight between Robert and Simon. That was it…..at least for that era of the group.
      What’s funny is that Robert has almost no memories of even playing on that 1983 Banshees tour or the handful of Cure shows that he played that summer. Drugs and no sleep can erase that tape in your brain real quick 😆

      Sorry, gotta add my 2 cents. IMHO, Kaleidoscope and JuJu are the alterative. Why?
      Because of the best guitarist Siouxsie ever had, John McGeoch. He left Magazine (Who were amazing!!!) to explore newer different things with Siouxsie, played on most of Kaleidoscope and all of JuJu and really up'd their game. And for me, it was all down hill after he left. Including this. It just doesn't do it for me after hearing AND seeing them with John in the band. That night in August / Sept of 1981 at Perkins Palace in Pasadena, CA is a night I cannot forget. There were so few people in the audience that me and my brother stretched our arms out being 10 feet from the stage and neither of us touched a person on either side of us. Couldn't believe it! But what really astounded me was the 2 skinheads who were globbing (spitting) on the band. That is until John McGeoch took his guitar off and WHAM!, clobbered one of the skinheads right on the skinhead. That ... was awesome!!! And the band continued on sounding great. Amazing night :-) And remember, this song / era from Siouxsie, that's my opinion. Which compared to yours sucks of course. So just remember that. No need to flame me or anything. Just my 2 cents, maybe about 5 cents actually, but whatever. Aight, I'm out!
