Becoming the Archetype is an American Christian metal band formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1999. They have released five albums on Solid State Records. Dichotomy, which was released in November 2008, sold around 2,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Thanks for the reaction Shane! ‘How Great Thou Art’ is an old traditional Christian hymn that BTA covered. You ought to check out the original hymn and compare the two! Great stuff bud!
The best way to compare I think is with Home Free’s cover of the same hymn. Phenomenal.
It's most certainly not a cover my man, it's an interpretation of the song and is vastly expanded upon.
Fantastic song selection Taylor! This is one of my favorite bands playing one of my favorite hymns song to my favorite one of ALL who is the Lord.
Since no one pointed this out and you didn't seem to know the song at the start, this is a Christian Hymn that has been around since 1885. They just metalized it...😎

also the choir at the end is from Billy Grahams choirs version of the song. it's actually the echo from the end of that version beautifully blended into the end of BTAs metal version.
The bassist for this band used to attend my church. I had a jam session with him a couple of weeks with drum and bass. Great dude, great band. So much fun.

As a 23 year old Music Minister in a Southern Baptist Church, I played this on a Sunday I was scheduled to give the Sermon.... The expressions were amazing. But it wasn't just for provoking, but to exemplify that content and context are king, not how the words are expressed. Was a fun day!
You sir are a brave man haha. Southern Baptists are usually the last to move towards progressiveness.

My top 3 are probably The Awakening, The Hollow, and The Sacrament. Tough choice though. Almost put The Lost Colony in there. The Daniel Gailey solo is really good.

This band is all about experimenting. Each one of their albums has something unique
Christian metal carries some really technically proficient artists. The first For Today album titled Ekklesia is one of the most technically proficient albums i've ever heard.
BTA is a favorite of mine because of their experimenting. The Celestial album was so fucking funky.
Breathing Light is the pinnacle of…almost all creation
Yooo they DID make a comeback this year. They just dropped a new single called The Lost Colony. It’s a banger, and I highly recommend checking it out.

I have recommended that as a song to do reactions for on various pages. Ransom is another one of my favorites that I like to recommend. It gets me every time when Jason says “oh, death, my worth adversary, you’ve tormented me for far too long!”

Their earlier album Terminate Damnation has to be one of the greatest metal albums of all time. It is incredible start to finish.

Gospel Music mixed with Metalcore Becoming the Archetype they were awesome.

I’ve tangled with demons and heavy spiritual warfare, so Christian metal has helped me keep doors closed, so to speak. Becoming the Archetype scratches the music itch.
BTW, becoming the archetype just put out they're 2022 album children of the great Extinction. Go listen to it because it's their finest album yet! Although dichotomy is still my favorite ☺️.

Thankfully they are back. Their latest album Children of the Great Extinction is worth a listen.
Oh man, you gotta react to some Phinehas now. The guitarist of BTA joined them back in 2015 and they're releasing a new album this year. Super technical too. Definitely check out the music video for My Horses Are Many for starters. You'll get a laugh out of that one.
Daniel from BTA is a permanent member of Phinehas.
Reflect/Refract , Requiem Aeternam and Elegy are their best songs imo. don't care if its christian or whatever. their music is far beyond badass

Their earlier stuff is more hard core. And this one, like you say is more experimental. But very heavy throughout.
They will tour next year , 2024 ,or so i have heard. I hope so.

Every one of those bands he mentioned is one of my favorites. Saving Grace hell-I mean HEAVENS yeah, war of ages, absolutely, EXTOL 😎 also grew up listening to living sacrifice, and of course demon Hunter! I got to see demon Hunter and living sacrifice together last summer and it was one of the MOST IMPRESSIVE shows I've ever been to, and I've seen Trans-Siberian orchestra, tripping on two hits of pure LSD🤣 (before I met Jesus)
