joe's style is remarkably very staccato. even when he's playing very quickly he still makes all the notes very clear. dude's amazing and you did a fuckin awesome job covering this

About 10 years ago, I've goy a cheap chinese made reissue of a danelectro bass. I sound pretty bad, and i was thinking about to upgrade the pickups, tuners, bridge, etc.
But one day, someone else played it and it sounded great, in that moment I realised that i must to improve my technique, not my bass.
10 years later, the same bass, is still sounding like shit.
First promoted to book her, than seen her and the magnificent band live in our small venue....absolutely worldclass and such nice young people with positive energy. Big career ahead...she deserves it all!!
Did anyone notice the E string is tuned Eb while the others are standard tuning? It makes it so much harder to play. Much respect
What? Why? It makes a perfect fifth just one fret away. Your minor thirds and your seconds are further, but I dont think funk uses too much minor or major seconds anyway. Way less annoying than going from g to b like on a guitar.... having your perfect fifths 3 frets away, and complicating every scale youve ever learned.

The really impressive thing is with this film (imho) is I still feel a groove in her playing, the finesse and technique are all obviously there, the incredibly tricky lines too...but she makes it groove. Musicality not just technical virtuosity. Love it 😀

😮 I have the same exact bass. 72 jazz. Mine has a black scratch plate. Was working a night shift 20 years ago. got a message from a friend saying it just came into a music shop from a guy who moved back from OZ to NZ needing money. Waited in car till shop opened. And snapped it up for 4 hundy...the guy had painted it with a white 2pac paint. So had to strip and nitro-cellulose coat. Your playing is amazing.. an inspiration.

Sick! I noticed you only tune your E to Eb, making new patterns. Joe used a cool short scale bass all strings tuned down ½ step. Cool way to do it!

In the video about the Joe Dart Bass they talked about the "1982 single speed bridge tone". That fits early 80s singel coil bass she is playing very well.

I was always hoping that Vulf would release the stems for this one as well, how does one go about removing the bass like it was done here to hope to emulate what Kinga is doing? Great job by the way, sounds so good!
Use eq to scoop the bass on the song and play over it
The spleeter library by Deezer is awesome: github.com/deezer/spleeter - it uses a machine learning model to separate a finished mix into vocals, piano, bass, drums and everything else. The AI is not perfect, though, especially on dense recordings like this one. Joe's Bass, especially in the higher registers, seems to get confused with a guitar or something.
OK, so after playing around with the spleeter results in Wavelab, I was able to remove quite a lot of the bass stem without affecting the rest of the recording too much. But if you know what he's playing, you can often still hear the ghosts of Joe's bass notes. If you're interested, send me a mail to (my last name) at gmail dot com.

She is absolutely really good. But most of what I see of her is really in the style of Marcus Miller, also tone wise. I would't call her innovative, but definitely one hell of a player!

I've been studying jazz bass in a conservatory for 5 years in France now, never have I ever encoutered anybody who would tune their low string to an E flat and be good to go just like this :) It just doesn't happen :) Drop D though, yeah!
The track (verse) was always in Eb-Ab. Joe Dart mostly plays in EADG tuning. For this track he detuned his MM Signature Joe Dart Bass, but just the low E, so that he can play the passages with the open Eb string. Kinga is very smart and she noticed it. For the next record he didn't have to retune the whole instrument. Disco Ulysses is from the same session, but it is in C, so he plays normal EADG again.
I always watch my youtube videos in 1:25 or 1:5 speed and when watching this, I thought I had left it on fast mode..... Nope, your just bloody quick lol. Fantastic playing.
